say you want to run these things at night or you don't want to use a battery or a solar panel for some reason. you can just plug it into AC with a transformer

just does a simple ac to dc conversion and basically has an output like a car battery or a 12v solar panel. so you can run anything. it's awesome

you can pick those up on amazon anywhere from from about 15 bucks all the way to like 40 for top end

super easy project to make by the way. if you're thinking about getting into solar and you want something that's going to be really useful, this is one of the most useful things i think you could have.
