[10]
hi welcome back to booze jet TV its
[12]
Paulie here today and before we get into
[14]
the episode today which is all about
[17]
fractional jet ownership I would like to
[20]
invite you to subscribe to this jet TV
[22]
if you haven't done so already please
[24]
subscribe to this channel give us a
[26]
thumbs up at the end of the video and
[27]
also have a hunt round have a look
[28]
around lots of interesting content here
[31]
on the private jet industry and how
[33]
private jets work how to lease one out a
[34]
buy one different types of aircraft lots
[37]
and lots of informations and have a look
[39]
round and see see what else we have to
[42]
offer here so let's get into the
[43]
fractional jet ownership this is a
[45]
subject which people have been asking me
[46]
about for a number of weeks now and so I
[50]
decided to cover this subject now
[52]
fracture ownership basically means that
[53]
you own a portion of a jet interestingly
[55]
enough the very first private jet that I
[59]
flew is a citation one back in the 1990s
[62]
and this was a fractional ownership
[64]
situation we had two owners decided to
[67]
get together by 50 percent of the
[69]
airplane each and you know I operated
[71]
the airplane for them I managed as well
[73]
it was it was interesting they did get
[75]
on very well with each other sometimes
[77]
they flew together as well
[78]
so they didn't just only in operate
[81]
independently for their companies they
[83]
also did some stuff together the
[85]
families used to fly together and things
[86]
like that so it worked very very well
[87]
but the the really the pioneer that took
[90]
this model from you know just the local
[92]
airplane owned by two guys down the road
[94]
to you know a global scale was a guy
[98]
called Richard Santoli now which
[100]
essentially worked for goldman sachs he
[102]
was a mathematician and he was looking
[104]
at the private jet industry and he was
[106]
working out you know how he could create
[108]
a model which was slightly different to
[110]
the charter the lease models that were
[111]
out there and he came across a company
[113]
called executive Jet Aviation he
[117]
acquired the company now this has been
[118]
originally this company was founded in
[120]
1964 by a bunch of pilots they built the
[123]
company up to a fleet of about ten Lear
[125]
23s and they were flying around so he
[127]
just centrally thought of acquiring the
[129]
company and then
[131]
developing this fractional ownership
[133]
model and the way it started is he
[135]
divided airplane into four so 25% for
[138]
shares basically four quarters and in
[140]
fact all the airplanes the the the
[142]
registration of the airplane was Q s at
[144]
the end Q s meaning called to share so
[146]
he started the company they went out
[147]
they bought a bunch of aeroplanes they
[149]
started this fractional model and
[151]
perfected it along the way one of the
[152]
clients their cry was a gentleman called
[154]
Warren Buffett Warren Buffett bought a
[157]
25% share in a hawker 1000 flew for a
[160]
few years for the company saw that they
[162]
were going places that this actually
[164]
worked for him because the beauty of the
[165]
fractional ownership model is that you
[167]
pay for just twenty five percent of the
[169]
other if you're buying a quarter share
[170]
so you pay for that share you then pay
[173]
for a quarter of the maintenance of the
[176]
area so that's so-called the fixed costs
[177]
and then you will pay for on top of that
[180]
just for the variable cost me in the
[181]
hours that you fly this is convenient if
[184]
you're flying over between 50 to 400
[185]
hours and you don't want to buy a full
[188]
airplane then what you would do is you
[190]
would buy a fraction you'd pay for 25%
[192]
of the maintenance and the fixed cost
[194]
your budget to pay for 25% of the
[196]
airplane and then you pay for the hours
[198]
that you fly to the fuel play only for
[200]
the fuel that you'd actually use etc etc
[202]
and that's the way it it basically works
[205]
now Jets have built the company up now
[208]
to fleet of just over 750 aircraft they
[211]
do have a global fleet now which is
[213]
quite interesting and they do have
[215]
smaller aircraft a larger aircraft so
[217]
there's a number of different types of
[218]
airplanes that they offer to their
[219]
customers also a number of other players
[222]
have come onto the market from Flex jet
[223]
which originally started by Bombardier
[225]
which started their own fractional
[227]
ownership company and then they sold two
[230]
directional aviation which then change
[231]
the name and it's called called it flex
[233]
jet we then have Nicholas Air which
[235]
operate pc-12
[236]
that's very local single-engine
[238]
turboprop on a fractional model then
[240]
we've got also plane sense in the US
[242]
which operate both PC 12 and PC 24s and
[245]
offering the fractional model so this is
[247]
different to charter a different to
[250]
releasing the advantage of a fraction
[251]
model is that you own the aircraft so
[254]
you have a say in you know the color
[256]
scheme on the outside the interior what
[258]
equipment to put up front for the pilots
[260]
what Wi-Fi system to have onboard you'll
[262]
get together with the other owners
[263]
and decide what you're going to be
[265]
having on your airplane you can't do
[267]
this if you're charged and you can't do
[268]
this if you're leasing but you can if
[270]
you own a fraction of an aircraft then
[272]
you can of course if you own the whole
[274]
aircraft so this is really the model is
[277]
it for you I don't know it would be
[279]
advisable to speak to an aviation
[283]
consultant aviation advisor to find out
[286]
more about your business and I can do
[287]
that for you we can have a chat and
[289]
figure out what's the right model for
[291]
you
[291]
the fractional model model is actually
[293]
on the increase right now the trend if
[295]
you saw my previous episode visit TV
[298]
then use the flights of fracture
[302]
ownership aircraft you actually app by
[303]
up by five point four percent in the
[306]
month of August 2019 so and also they
[309]
also done study on Millennials lately
[311]
and they asked and Millennials a number
[313]
of questions and they did say that the
[315]
fractional model was something that
[316]
appealed to them because they could
[318]
share the cost of the airplane with
[319]
somebody else and not too keen on
[321]
actually sharing the flight I'm not sure
[324]
if that's going to work in the private
[325]
industry I've been very critical about
[327]
that model about sharing a jet as in
[329]
being on a jet with somebody else I
[331]
think this is a model which is destined
[333]
to fail because the private jet needs to
[335]
stay private but you know sharing the
[337]
cost of ownership
[338]
I think definitely can work the
[341]
challenge can be is if if this is on you
[343]
know one airplane and both owners or all
[345]
people or two of the owners want to use
[347]
the airplane on the same day that can be
[349]
a challenge but if you buy into a
[350]
fractional ownership company that has a
[353]
multiple aircraft and let's say you have
[355]
three or four aircraft based in your
[357]
city on the fractional model that if
[359]
airplane a is not available you can use
[360]
airplane B because you do earn a
[362]
fraction of one of those types of
[363]
airplanes and that's where NetJets makes
[365]
jet you know other companies out there
[367]
that oh a number of airplane and off
[369]
airplanes and offering in this
[371]
fractional model to their clients so
[373]
definitely one to look at nothing wants
[375]
you to study and evaluate in your
[377]
private jet acquisition but that's all
[380]
from me on this episode if you haven't
