[9]
…And let me tell you this, we live in Hampton Court.
[11]
We are die hard PPP.
[13]
PPP!
[14]
We’ve never changed our vote.
[15]
In 2015 when it was $9,000 per bag, we still voted for PPP.
[17]
We’ve heard rumors of a tyrant in Region Two making life uncomfortable for some rice
[21]
farmers.
[23]
When we took a closer look; we have made some shocking discoveries.
[28]
The naked truth of one of Guyana's most influential businessmen is ugly.
[33]
He desires more than he possesses and it seems as though he is willing to get what he wants
[36]
at all cost.
[39]
Everyone who has tried to tell any part of this story in the past has felt the wrath
[43]
of the power he wields, but, this time it's different.
[53]
This time the story is being told by an anonymous group that seeks to be a voice for the voiceless.
[58]
You know us as "Guyana Uncut," or whatever the kids are calling it these days.
[65]
Rice farming is predominant on the Essequibo Coast, especially in a village called Hampton
[70]
Court.
[71]
Tamesh Jagmohan, is the principal of the El Dorado Trading Company, which is one of the
[76]
country's biggest mining companies, he also owns the Caricom Rice Mill Ltd, Pure Harvest
[81]
Inc., and the Hampton Court Airstrip among other businesses, and is suspected to be a
[86]
member of the PPP oligarchy where he holds great status and influence.
[92]
Anyone who attempts to point this out is silenced.
[95]
The same type of high-tech silencing that shut down the vice news investigation into
[99]
the favor broker we now know as Su.
[111]
On February 13, 2022, Jagmohan wrote to the current Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson
[118]
Benn, asking him if the state and its external agencies and authorities could conduct a thorough
[123]
investigation into him and his business so that he could be given a clean record that
[127]
would help him dispel any malice directed at him.
[130]
Jagmohan mentioned in the letter that he is a qualified gold dealer and exporter who has
[134]
been in business for over two decades.
[137]
In the letter, Jagmohan also stated that he has made major contributions to Guyana's economy
[143]
by remitting billions in royalties and taxes to the consolidated fund annually.
[149]
The businessman also added that the gold exporting business is fiercely competitive and that
[154]
he has been singled out by unknown assailants for systemic character assassination.
[160]
He went on to say that he is concerned that the alleged intentional attacks may harm his
[164]
firm and the economy of Guyana because of the delicate nature of his operation, which
[168]
involves the transportation of gold or money between countries.
[173]
As a result, he concluded by adding, "With this in mind, I would appreciate if the state
[178]
and its external agencies and authorities could initiate a thorough examination of me
[182]
and my business so that I can be issued with a "clean bill of health".
[186]
The fact that the letter was also CC'd to Mr. Clifton Hicken addressing him as the Commissioner
[192]
of Police, is very worrying.
[195]
Mr. Hicken was only appointed by the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces
[199]
on March 28, 2022, and the appointment became effective on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, before
[207]
Mr. Hicken’s appointment he was performing the duties of the Deputy Commissioner.
[212]
The former Acting Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppy proceeded on his pre-retirement leave
[216]
on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
[221]
However, in another document which was shared by a Facebook page called, 'Exposed Corruption
[226]
in Guyana' it was stated that the NYFO had assessed that El Dorado Trading along with
[231]
Jagmohan and his associates were involved in trade-based money laundering involving
[235]
the import of gold.
[237]
We suspect that the NYFO being referenced is the United States Department of State New
[242]
York field office but were not able to independently verify.
[247]
The document further stated that the NYFO had also assessed that the gold was being
[253]
misclassified upon entry as non-dutiable scrap and or waste gold when it is semi-worked gold
[258]
or gold jewelry dutiable at an approximate duty rate of 5.5%.
[264]
This suspicion is shared among many high-level stakeholders in the mining industry.
[272]
On May 03, 2020, a column titled “PPP financier hosted the diplomatic mission on Election
[278]
Day” was written by veteran journalist Adam Harris who made several allegations against
[283]
the businessman was published.
[285]
Harris had written that on March 2, 2020, some diplomats traveled around the country
[290]
in the company of Gerry Gouveia, who was an accredited observer for the elections.
[297]
Harris noted that Gouveia who is a member of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), was
[301]
granted election observer status.
[305]
According to Harris the fact that on the Essequebo Coast, they were transported and hosted by
[309]
Jagmohan who he claimed is a financier of the People’s Progressive Party, was worrying.
[316]
Harris further alleged that Gouveia made the introduction and that he had called Jagmohan
[320]
to inform him of the need to accommodate the diplomats and transport them.
[326]
He disclosed that Jagmohan took the diplomats to almost every polling place on the Essequebo
[330]
Coast on Elections Day.
[332]
Further, he also stated that Jagmohan has been known to fund the party although, in
[337]
days gone by, the vice president sought to distance himself from the man on grounds that
[342]
the man was a drug dealer.
[344]
Further in that column, Harris had also asserted that Jagmohan had allegedly shipped some One
[350]
Million US Dollars’ worth of gold to Canada to pay Charrandass Persaud, at the behest
[355]
of the PPP, for Persaud’s vote on the no-confidence motion on December 18, 2018 which toppled
[361]
the former APNU government.
[364]
Harris claimed that gold was initially held up by the Guyana Gold Board but was eventually
[368]
released.
[371]
He also alleged that Jagmohan was one of three PPP financiers who each shipped five hundred
[376]
million dollars to the United Kingdom to pay Mercury a total of one point five billion
[381]
for election consultancy.
[385]
Mercury is a political consulting firm that uses data collected from internet users to
[389]
design strategic messaging to persuade voters.
[393]
Often times the messages are fallacious but are designed to target individuals based on
[397]
their interests, search activities and other personal information.
[402]
This approach has often been labeled as elections manipulation.
[407]
It is the same strategy that was used to get Donald Trump elected in the USA via a company
[411]
similar to mercury called Cambridge Analytica.
[415]
An examination revealed that one of the sums came from a Demerara Bank account and this
[419]
was after the ousted caretaker government investigators wanted to know the source of
[424]
the money and to whom it was shipped.
[427]
According to Harris what is also known is that the United States revoked Jagmohan’s
[431]
visa and blacklisted him.
[434]
Harris said, this is common knowledge in the embassy, and that it is also known by the
[438]
other embassies and the British High Commission.
[441]
Further, he said that when the United States Ambassador, Sarah Ann Lynch, accepted Jagmohan's
[447]
hospitality at his home on the Essequibo Coast, eyebrows went up.
[454]
After the column was published the businessman and Harris later had a confrontation and the
[458]
veteran journalist was hauled before the court.
[461]
One of the names in the Chronicle, Tamesh Jagmohan, got very angry.
[471]
He called me yesterday.
[472]
He was very abusive and threatening.
[473]
So, I was advised to come and make a formal report to CID.
[478]
Which I did this morning.
[479]
I gave them a statement and they have promised to make contact with him.
[489]
Even if they have to arrest him and bring him down for a confrontation.
[496]
On December 30, 2020, the Guyana News Network claimed that Jagmohan is also allegedly one
[501]
of the biggest international criminals who is being pursued by multiple law enforcement
[506]
agencies around the world.
[509]
GNN revealed that the US criminal investigation is being conducted by a task force that includes
[515]
the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Customs and Border Patrol, Justice Department, and
[521]
the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
[525]
The News agency also stated that the US Immigration authorities had revoked Jagmohan's US visa
[532]
on March 4, 2014, and banned him from traveling to the United States as their investigation
[538]
intensified, adding that the CBP and FBI are investigating Jagmohan's criminal activities
[543]
which they traced from Guyana to Venezuela, the United Kingdom, Trinidad & Tobago, China,
[549]
Canada, Queens and Brooklyn, New York, Newark and Jersey City, New Jersey, as well as Fort
[556]
Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida.
[559]
GNN further claimed that the Law enforcement authorities said that months of surveillance
[564]
revealed that Jagmohan also illegally smuggles low-grade Venezuelan gold into Guyana through
[569]
Region Two.
[571]
According to the GNN the Venezuelan gold is then mixed with Guyana gold and sold to the
[576]
Guyana Gold Board, and the US authorities have been scrutinizing dozens of Jagmohan's
[581]
workers and associates who are connected to his criminal enterprise.
[591]
Two months after Jagmohan asked the Minister to assist him with a "clean bill of health"
[596]
he along with his brother Suresh donated ten brand new spanking vehicles to the Guyana
[600]
Police Force in Region Two, on May 15, 2022.
[605]
Jagmohan was also accused of pulling down the Anna Regina Masjid Fence, and it was said
[610]
by a source that he allegedly paid cops so that they can release the suspect from their
[614]
custody that was caught tearing down the fence.
[618]
Meanwhile, a source close to Jagmohan's relatives revealed that the businessman had allegedly
[623]
tried poisoning one of his brothers by adding cocaine to his drink, which caused him to
[627]
become crippled in one of his arms.
[631]
In a shocking twist before Jagmohan's mother died, she revealed how he accused her of trying
[635]
to rob him after she asked him to return her property which he forcefully took away from
[639]
her.
[640]
He was laying on the bed and checked the documents and my account was straight.
[645]
Everything was straight.
[646]
I did not rob anyone.
[660]
The woman was heard saying she didn't rob him as he claimed, which caused her health
[664]
to allegedly get much worse since it came to her as a shock that her son would accuse
[669]
her of trying to rob him.
[670]
The woman claimed that she worked and built her house and all she wanted was for him to
[675]
return the property which he took from her before she dies so that she can leave shares
[679]
for her other children.
[683]
A letter even surfaced showing Jagmohan informing his father that he needs to pay him $9,300
[692]
per acre per annum for 10 acres of rice lands that he rents from him in Hampton Court, Essequibo
[697]
Coast.
[698]
Reports are that the rice farmers used to pay only $4,200 per acre per annum.
[705]
Not only his father but over seventy-five farmers claimed that they were terrorized
[710]
and bullied by Jagmohan to pay $15,000 per acre per annum for rice lands that they rent
[715]
from him in Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast, and according to those farmers, he is trying
[720]
to exploit them because they are poor, helpless and has no one to represent them.
[726]
Well I said we are doom.
[729]
He will do what he wants to do and we can't do nothing about it because we don't have
[733]
no rich friends to represent us.
[737]
This man betrayed us.
[741]
Deceived us
[742]
and then betrayed us.
[744]
deceived and betrayed us!
[747]
This is what really hurts me.
[748]
and the rest of farmers
[751]
I never expect a man to deceive me like this in my lifetime.
[753]
I never expected this.
[758]
In November 2021 several rice farmers were on record accusing the businessman of terrorizing
[764]
and wrongfully arresting them for simply saying that the price was
[768]
too much he is asking for since they have been facing numerous challenges with crops.
[772]
Tamesh Jagmohan sent a notice to me
[774]
he came with police to my house
[777]
him and his men along with police came to my house
[782]
I asked why are you here?
[784]
They told me that they are here to serve a notice for me to vacate the land
[787]
I asked which land?
[788]
I told them this is State land. How will you evict me from State land?
[792]
He told me I have seven days to come off the land via a written notice.
[798]
Seven days I have to get off the land or I will be sued for one million dollars
[803]
[Is that the notice?] Yes. This is the notice. Seven days I have to come off the land.
[813]
...and this is the lease that he got from Irfaan Ali
[818]
we are here over fifty years on this land and he wants to come and bully us off this land.
[827]
While the farmers were speaking out Jagmohan was formalizing an agreement with the Guyana
[831]
Defense Force so that they can use the Hampton Court Airstrip free of cost.
[837]
The GDF formalized the agreement on April 25, 2022.
[842]
The Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess, and Jagmohan inked a Memorandum of Understanding
[847]
which formalizes a pre-existing informal arrangement that has seen the use of the airstrip by the
[852]
Air Corps at no cost, for support of the Force’s location in that sector as well for instances
[857]
of provision of relief items.
[861]
We have long suspected Tamesh Jagmohan to be a member of the PPP oligarchy and there
[866]
are quite a handful of allegations against him that we simply could not ignore and we
[869]
wonder why is it that he is pleading with the Home Affairs Minister to assist him in
[873]
getting a clean record if he is innocent?
[877]
Which member of the PPP oligarchy should we investigate next?
