in today's video we're gonna go over

Charles Schwab street-smart edge trading

platform this video was requested by a

subscriber of mine and to kind of just

go through the trading platform a lot of
[13]
us are familiar with like interact or
[14]
brokers tws or possibly thinkorswim
[17]
you know commonly called toss or you
[21]
know e trades platform so so today we're
[24]
going to login and take a look at the
[25]
Charles Schwab street-smart edge trading

platform let's go ahead and get started

so the first thing we're gonna do is

we're going to go ahead and get logged
[35]
in to trial Schwab

and once you get logged in to Schwab the

default page brings you to usually as
[48]
the summary page and that's what it
[50]
brought us to here so we're gonna go

ahead and go up to trade up here and
[54]
from here we're gonna go ahead and to
[56]
the right hand side underneath trading
[58]
tools and we're going to go ahead and
[60]
click on street smart edge now you
[62]
notice there's a lot of other tools and
[65]
options here options trading mobile

trading street smart comm trade source

and a lot of these are just you know
[72]
pretty good tools I have not really been
[74]
explored a lot of what Charles Schwab if
[77]
it has to offer right now but we're
[79]
gonna today we're gonna go ahead and
[80]
look at the street smart edge link here

this kind of just gives you an overview
[89]
what the street smart edge is and it's
[91]
just you know as I said it's a platform
[94]
and you know a lot of people probably
[97]
may have not even used a platform like I
[100]
would call like a fat client and you
[103]
know most people probably use either the
[104]
web or the phone or mobile app I should
[107]
say so if you're a day trader you might
[109]
have used a trading platform in the past
[111]
so so this platform here they kind of
[114]
went around and you know question a lot
[117]
of traders and what they wanted in a
[119]
platform and they kind of you know built
[122]
a platform around that so I haven't used
[125]
the platform to trade with Schwab the
[128]
main reason I haven't used this platform
[131]
is because it was only available on
[133]
Windows and I'm using Linux so but I did
[136]
find out they do have a cloud option
[139]
using Citrix so that's what option we're
[142]
gonna use today so let's go ahead and
[144]
get logged into the platform

all right we're logged into street-smart
[166]
edge it took I would say two minutes or
[168]
so to log in and you know I mean it is
[171]
using Citrix Cloud I'm not really sure
[174]
why it takes so long to load but I mean
[177]
once it loads it seems to be okay now
[180]
the good thing about using Citrix you
[182]
know is you could technically probably
[184]
use any computer you know Linux Windows
[187]
Mac doesn't really matter you're not
[190]
putting a fat client on your actual
[191]
desktop so that's kind of cool you can
[193]
pretty much log in anywhere even if you
[196]
need you know were somewhere out and
[198]
traveling or whatever and you had to
[199]
borrow a computer for somebody you
[201]
couldn't log into this so that's kind of
[202]
cool so this is the default layout that
[205]
you get with the platform and schwabb
[208]
actually does offer three different you
[211]
know pre layouts that you know you can
[213]
just go to file here and then you can do
[215]
load and then you can do a load from
[217]
file so there is three files that you
[219]
can download from Schwab and once kind
[222]
of like a darker theme as well I know
[224]
everybody likes the dark theme so but
[226]
this is what the default looks like so

and you can modify it to you don't have
[231]
to use Thurs you know you don't to
[233]
download theirs and you can just pretty
[234]
much do your own layout keys in the new
[236]
layout here so right now what we see on

the left hand side here is we got a
[242]
market depth tab it's kind of like a
[244]
level two and we have a options chain
[248]
tab here and we got the options there
[252]
and what's looks like the triple Q's and
[254]
we have trade and probability calculator
[258]
that's kind of cool little tool there
[260]
top movers so I'm just showing some top
[265]
movers there and down at the bottom here

we got breaking news QQQ news news watch

briefing comm so a lot of platforms

offer stuff like that it looks like in

the middle we have a nice chart except

for the daily and it looks like a
[287]
five-minute period let's take a look at

the 5-minute here okay it looks like a

normal chart so need some more

indicators on it but the order messages

and you know we're set to stock and ETF

over here calls and puts tab there's

calls and puts tab and then we have

conditional orders you notice at the top

here we kind of have some more tabs

account so that kind of shows us my

account information and if you're not

familiar this is my dividend portfolio

account so that's the reason why all

these positions are in here so that's my

you know 39 positions I'm using in my
[324]
dividend portfolio so I don't use this
[329]
particular platform to trade these

particular stocks because their dividend
[332]
stocks I don't care about getting the
[334]
you know exact same price I really need
[337]
to get by using a chart you know trying
[339]
to time everything perfectly be doing
[341]
limit orders I pretty much just do an
[343]
order on my phone
[344]
but what somebody would use this
[346]
particular platform would probably be
[348]
like you know a day trader or something
[350]
like that or they're doing research so

an order status I did buy some stuff

today so let's go and just take a look

at that so I don't know if I bought that

much that could have just been from a
[364]
couple days ago as well but I did buy

quite a bit of stuff today

today is June nice so alerts probably

nothing there and balances this is just

yes my brokerage account and I do have a

two accounts here get that for 1k trust

and then the brokerage so so that's

pretty cool look at the positions here

and that's we've already seen that and

what's this one here realize gains and

losses which I didn't sell anything

today transactions probably just the

buys and sells for today

it actually was for from April so we

kind of looked at all these tabs here

and we kind of looked at this middle

chart area there's some different charts

down at the bottom here's the options

tab here let's go and take a look at

this launch tools up here there's a lot

of different tools available to you and

you know kind of one that stands out to

me is this CNBC TV so let's just click

on that take a look

let's go ahead oh we have Kramer

okay well let's pause that stop that so

I do have CNBC on my TV to the left of

me here and Kramer is on and let's see

it maybe a little bit of a delay there

but it looks to be real-time so that's

kind of cool so I mean if you don't have

CNBC and you want to log in and get CNBC

this is one way to get it now I do think

that thinkorswim offers CNBC live as
[463]
well if you even on your phone I think
[467]
if you have the toss up on there you can
[468]
get CNBC as well so that's kind of cool

let's take a look at the launch tools

again so we have a lot of different

options here ETF screener screener Plus

and sectors as to what that is oh that's

pretty cool so this isn't you know a
[484]
screener so you know I mean there's a
[486]
lot of different platforms have
[488]
something like this but you can get the
[490]
top 10 volume for the day and you can
[493]
get what else can you get in here top
[496]
option volume so you know daily high
[499]
account change from open so I mean
[501]
there's a lot of presets here and I'm
[503]
sure there's some custom ones to did you
[504]
can do my save screens so top 10 volume

well so yeah performance by sector so

okay so that has all the sectors there

and you can see the performance for the
[521]
sector so you know one on the TV they're
[522]
saying yeah all the sectors are up or
[524]
participating or you know eight of the
[527]
eleven sectors are participating then

you have the second breakdown right

there so that's pretty cool let's go

so there's one thing I want to check on

here and I looked at it the other day I

logged into this platform just to kind

of get an idea about it

go in the money probability out of the

money probability and probability of

touch now these are pretty cool so

that's pretty cool probably the in the

money there's only one other platform

that offers that as far as I'm aware of

that's toss and it's one of the reasons

why he's toss to do a lot of options

research because of probability of in

the money probability of touch and I use

that pretty religiously if I'm doing
[589]
options I try to stay with you know
[590]
depending on what I was doing if I was
[592]
doing like Karen the super trader
[593]
strategy and then I would do five
[595]
percent of probability and it being
[597]
money but you know I mean I have my own
[599]
strategy what I'm doing the Casa cured
[601]
put us but that's pretty cool because

not a lot of platforms off of that I
[605]
wished you know my Interactive Brokers
[608]
tws platform offered that but it doesn't
[610]
so what else do we have here we have at
[614]
the top here we have screen and research
[621]
which kind of brings up you know similar
[623]
to what we had already looked at but it
[625]
brings it up all in one screen so if you

want to bring up like you know you just
[629]
want to do complete screening and
[630]
research then it brings up all the tools

that you kind of need here so that's

pretty cool change from open this is

what we looked at just a minute ago this

is a screener we have the news here you
[642]
have summary it's more of kind of like
[645]
news and information about specific
[646]
stock we got earnings about a specific
[649]
stock and ratings and we have the
[654]
metrics and we have like a little chart
[655]
here so that's pretty cool so how do we
[658]
trade on this thing so looks like the
[660]
orders are right here so if we're gonna
[663]
do it trade I'd say we go to the symbol
[667]
and we can probably just take in like
[669]
Microsoft there and we can do an action
[673]
so it'd be like a buy and we'd buy one
[677]
because we're cheap
[678]
smart okay that's just smart routing
[681]
which is usually the best option limit
[685]
order so we'd probably just do a market
[686]
or in this case here and reinvest
[689]
dividends at school that's the option to
[691]
turn on give it in reinvestment so

that's where that is on that because I
[696]
know where it is on the phone I know
[697]
where it is on the web platform so so

that's how you would pretty much do an
[701]
order for whatever ticker you want to do

so so that's pretty much what this
[706]
platform looks like I have never used it
[710]
to make a trade and I don't know if I
[712]
will it really is

probably I'd probably use it more for
[717]
research if I was going to do anything
[719]
with it I just don't have any need with
[723]
a dividend portfolio to make a trade in
[724]
here most people that you need to use a
[726]
platform like this or day traders or
[728]
swing traders because they need to have
[730]
access to those charts real-time they
[733]
need to look at the level too and you
[736]
know have quick access to those trade
[738]
you know a phone is not reliable it's
[740]
not recommended for day trading at all
[743]
now you could probably swing trader on
[745]
the phone but for day trading you know
[747]
if you're doing like you know let's just
[748]
say for example you're doing 30,000
[751]
shares on it's really you know a really
[753]
low stock like a two or three dollar
[755]
stock or something like that what if
[757]
your phone hiccups or something like
[759]
that and you hit by and but you didn't
[761]
think it went through and hit by again
[763]
you put double the order in or if you
[765]
sold right you sold 30,000 shares and
[768]
you need to go through and hit sell
[769]
again well guess what you're short
[772]
30,000 shares at that point right
[774]
because you sold it and then sold short
[776]
so I've had that happen to me even using
[780]
a fat client so that's the reason why
[782]
doing a phone for any you know day
[785]
trading even swing training really is
[787]
really risky and that's the reason I
[789]
would recommend using a fat client such
[792]
as this tws he trade toss something like
[797]
