[0]
hello friends this is vijay bembani here
[3]
i'm back with you in this video to
[5]
basically discuss about uh a very
[8]
exciting uh a new investment opportunity
[10]
that we have
[12]
in india after a very very long waiting
[16]
period
[17]
i hope my videos have uh made you a a
[21]
better 360 degree worldview trader
[24]
especially in the last couple of weeks
[27]
i've recorded videos like how to analyze
[30]
sugar stocks
[31]
in the background of
[34]
the cyclicality of the crop and then
[37]
alcohol stocks in the background of
[40]
cyclicality of sugar and then what to
[42]
look for in a good hotel stock uh
[45]
basically
[46]
a macro view of what's happening i'm
[49]
particularly excited about the video
[51]
that i made about a boom coming up
[53]
thanks to the
[54]
comprehensive economic partnership act
[57]
between india and uae
[59]
and the bonds getting listed overseas
[63]
now
[64]
obviously a lot of my viewers
[67]
are a little anxious about whether
[70]
all these issues will impact the
[74]
investment in bullion that they have
[77]
made so far and
[79]
more importantly after almost two
[82]
decades of waiting we are now being
[85]
offered a silver etf and exchange traded
[88]
fund in india and whether it's a good
[91]
idea to invest in the silver etf
[95]
so let me take this one step at a time
[98]
uh initially i said gold would jump by
[102]
31st december 2021 which i later
[105]
modified to 2022 for the simple reason
[109]
that
[110]
the kind of inflation that i was
[112]
expecting was not happening
[116]
by the end of 2021 as per my statistical
[120]
models so more than two quarters ago i i
[124]
shifted the goal post and i said look
[126]
it's not happening in 2021 uh there's a
[128]
better probability in 2022 31st december
[133]
if you are monitoring what's happening
[135]
in the world around you you're basically
[137]
seeing what's happened in china
[139]
there's been an economic
[141]
credit crisis rather which is spiraling
[144]
out to the economy by itself which means
[147]
that the chinese insistence on having
[150]
the chinese currency as one of the
[153]
global reserve currencies
[155]
is going to be pushed back for a while
[158]
so it is the us dollar as a primary
[160]
global reserve currency then you have
[162]
the euro the japanese yen etc etc
[165]
which means in the currency space the uh
[169]
the room has just gotten smaller
[172]
secondly with the spikes in fuel prices
[176]
with the way natural gas and crude oil
[178]
prices are jumping
[180]
also disruption in the supply chain
[183]
thanks to the economic uh distress in
[186]
china there is going to be a good deal
[188]
of impression which is good for both
[191]
gold and silver
[193]
so this is something that i was betting
[195]
on and
[196]
slowly
[197]
but surely i'm seeing events unravel
[202]
unfold in front of my eyes which is what
[205]
i had anticipated
[207]
to be very honest
[209]
any investment
[211]
call
[212]
any investment or trading view
[216]
sometimes hits the mark along expected
[219]
lines sometimes it takes a little while
[222]
longer and there are times when it
[224]
actually misses the target completely
[227]
that's the way the investment world is
[229]
nobody and i have never claimed to have
[232]
a magic wand which can address all
[234]
issues and hit bullseye all the time
[237]
so
[238]
the element of time is what has got
[240]
stretched out in our boolean investment
[243]
but
[244]
i'm
[245]
quite confident that the inflation that
[247]
i was expecting is coming it's just the
[251]
waiting period that is a variable here
[253]
that's settled let's now go to where the
[257]
uh
[258]
silver etf is headed and whether you
[261]
should be investing money in it or not
[265]
now first of all
[266]
i stand by my view that silver in
[269]
percentage terms if you are okay with
[272]
the idea of tolerating higher volatility
[276]
now for example how much of a higher
[278]
volatility you will actually have to
[280]
bear with when you're investing in
[282]
silver
[283]
if gold goes up hypothetically over a
[286]
long period average lpa i'm talking of
[288]
lpa long period average if gold goes up
[291]
or goes down by one percent silver tends
[294]
to go up and go down by 1.28 to 1.30
[297]
percent so ballpark it's about 28 to 30
[300]
percent more volatile than gold
[304]
in rallies it rises higher in declines
[306]
it falls faster
[309]
but net net
[310]
inflation will help silver so we figured
[313]
out for ourselves that silver is a good
[316]
buy
[317]
and whatever i have said about silver
[319]
being used in the 5g industry all you
[322]
need to do is basically google search
[324]
you cannot have a fifth generation gsm
[328]
[Music]
[329]
mobile internet connectivity without
[332]
deploying silver in the switching
[334]
systems
[335]
electric vehicles you need the silver in
[338]
each and every vehicle
[340]
internet of things you know
[343]
you can't do without silver photovoltaic
[345]
cells or solar cells you can't do
[347]
without silver so all the past videos
[350]
about why silver should go up because
[351]
it's an industrial application come
[354]
a hedge against inflation and a store of
[356]
value remain on track those arguments
[360]
remain valid as ever
[363]
so silver should be invested in now
[365]
whether you should invest in the etf
[368]
i think the silver etf makes sense for
[371]
the simple reason that if you were to
[373]
hypothetically invest say about a crore
[376]
of rupees in bullion
[379]
all it would take you
[381]
is two kilos of gold or less to deploy
[384]
one crore rupees
[386]
right now when it comes to silver at
[389]
approximately 60 000 rupees per kilo can
[393]
you really imagine uh pumping in uh
[396]
more than a quintile quintal and a half
[399]
now that is a problem
[402]
that is a problem you'll have to buy 150
[405]
kilos of silver to deploy a crore
[407]
and storage then becomes a problem of
[410]
course there are private and
[412]
public sector banks and even non-banking
[414]
institutions that allow you storage
[416]
facilities by way of
[418]
commercial vaults that they give you on
[421]
rent but believe me it adds on to the
[423]
cost month after month
[426]
year after year then of course there is
[428]
that fear of uh theft silver being
[431]
bulkier you can't really move it around
[433]
with you if
[435]
you were to buy a kilo of gold it will
[437]
be it will be something of this size
[439]
it's called cadbury in zaveri bazaar in
[442]
mumbai for the simple reason that it
[444]
looks like a bar of cadbury chocolate
[446]
coated in the golden color
[449]
aluminium foil
[450]
so one cadbury can easily fit into your
[452]
pocket just like a cell phone is and you
[455]
could carry around one or two cadburys
[457]
on your person are you moving around
[459]
with a crow and a half maybe even two
[461]
crores on your person nobody's would be
[463]
any wiser but
[465]
try carrying around a crore worth of
[467]
silver around you and you know what i
[468]
mean so etfs solve that problem now the
[472]
other issue about silver is
[475]
because it is more volatile
[478]
the spread now when i talk about the
[480]
spread i mean the difference between the
[483]
buy price and the sale price now if you
[485]
were to go to zaveri bazaar if you were
[488]
to go to a pedi a payday is a
[490]
traditional shop which buys and sells
[493]
silver mostly a wholesale shop now
[496]
wholesalers are cheaper to buy and sell
[498]
to
[499]
okay so the spread between
[502]
a gram of gold
[504]
would be nothing more than 120 to maybe
[506]
150 rupees per gram so if you were to
[509]
buy and sell that the spread would be
[512]
150 or 220 rupees that's very very
[515]
affordable
[517]
and since people don't really buy large
[520]
quantities of
[522]
gold uh that 120 bucks is actually not
[525]
really much
[527]
but in silver
[529]
when you try to buy and sell a kilo of
[532]
silver remember kilo would be nothing
[534]
more than approximately ballpark 60 000
[537]
bucks so most investors would be able to
[539]
deal in silver in multiples of kilos
[543]
the spread could be anything between
[545]
[Music]
[547]
1200 rupees to 3000 rupees per kilo
[551]
now that kind of spread means somebody
[553]
is eating away somebody is hacking into
[556]
your profits and pocketing it just by
[559]
way of bid and offer spread or the buy
[562]
and sell difference
[564]
all right now that is very unaffordable
[567]
plus again you have gst on silver which
[570]
you are paying
[572]
when you buy
[573]
and when you are selling unless you have
[576]
a registered
[578]
dealer's number
[580]
which is a registration number with a
[582]
boolean merchant's association
[584]
you will be deemed as an unregistered
[586]
dealer or a urd and you would lose out
[589]
on a certain portion of these
[591]
transaction costs so buying and selling
[594]
silver in physical unless the price
[597]
really jumps up 30 40 50 60
[601]
will be a little less economical as
[604]
compared to silver etfs
[606]
here you will buy it just like an equity
[608]
share in the stock exchanges in the
[611]
secondary markets and
[614]
bid and offer spreads will obviously be
[616]
a lot more smaller as compared to the
[620]
physical aspect in zaveri bazaars or the
[623]
gold bullion market
[625]
every city in india would have its own
[628]
bullion area where people go and buy and
[631]
sell jewelry and raw bullion also so the
[635]
bid and offer spread and silver taken
[637]
care of now
[639]
we basically come to the uh unit cost
[642]
now in the gold etf and by the way gold
[646]
etf market
[647]
has a corpus of 16 350 crores if my
[651]
memory serves me right
[653]
and
[654]
these figures are up to end of august
[657]
2021. that's how big the gold etf or the
[661]
exchange rated fund market is in india
[664]
the silver market can be a lot more
[667]
bigger for the simple reason that silver
[669]
is a poor man's gold
[671]
all right so
[673]
uh sil a gold is traded in multiples of
[676]
one gram in most cases but you also have
[680]
some funds
[682]
uh exchange traded funds where you are
[684]
trading gold in less than a gram
[688]
all right so
[690]
silver when you go to zebra bazaar if
[693]
you want a bar you are most probably
[696]
forced to buy a kilo of silver whereas
[699]
in the etf we don't know i'm not sure of
[701]
the denomination yet but if
[703]
affordability is any benchmark to go by
[706]
i would think
[708]
that you should get at least 100 grams
[711]
in multiples if not smaller if not
[714]
smaller so then it becomes a very
[717]
affordable issue and therefore you can
[720]
buy silver in fractions of those bars in
[723]
javi bazaar you are forced to buy a kilo
[726]
but in the etf you would definitely be
[728]
able to buy a whole lot smaller pieces
[731]
which means that doing an sip or
[733]
systematic investment plan in silver
[736]
using the etf route suddenly becomes a
[740]
whole lot more viable
[742]
no storage cost because the etfs are
[745]
going to lie in your dmat account just
[748]
like any other stock no fear of theft
[751]
and you can basically uh transact from
[755]
the comfort of your cell phone your
[757]
broker's mobile trading app you can
[759]
simply transfer those etfs so it's like
[761]
carrying a few hundred kilos of silver
[763]
in your pocket digitally of course
[766]
it basically then equates silver with
[769]
gold where you can carry a few bars of
[772]
cadbury bars of gold as it is called in
[774]
the very bazaar parlance you could
[776]
basically carry a few hundred crores
[778]
worth of silver in your pocket using
[780]
your cell phone
[781]
so
[782]
net net i think the advantages of etf in
[785]
silver outweigh
[787]
the worries and therefore i think yes
[790]
you should go ahead and invest in silver
[793]
etfs as and when they are available they
[796]
are backed by physical silver with a
[797]
third-party custodian so when you are
[800]
owning say hundred grams or thousand
[802]
grams or maybe 10 kilos or 100 kilos of
[805]
silver remain assured that much silver
[808]
in your name is lying in a
[811]
custodian's
[813]
and key somewhere and
[816]
to that extent you can sleep peacefully
[819]
in the night
