let's get right to it shiba inu is a stubborn dog  for the most part he is going to get what he wants  

and not necessarily what you want due to their  stubborn nature it is important for the owner  

to be firm and consistent for training shiba inu  will only follow command that makes sense to him  

not necessarily what you want him to do to  add to the challenge of this stubborn trait  

is that he typically is not eager to  please anyone it is going to take time  

and patience for him to accept you as his pack  leader the good news is once he accepts you  

as his family member he is extremely loyal  and very protected of his owner over time the  

training will also get easier because your bond  with your dog will get stronger as time goes by  

now here goes into the next trait loyal you  probably heard or read about shiba inu is a loyal  

breed they are an ancient japanese dog breed and  were bred to hunt small animals with their humans  

they are fiercely loyal to their families a real  example in japan about a shiba inu named mari who  

was caring for her elderly owner who was trapped  in his home and also caring for her newborn babies  

during 2004 earthquake in japan the owner was  eventually rescued by an airlift but had to  

leave his dogs behind miraculously and thankfully  mari and her baby survived and eventually reunited  

with her owner when the owner returned he  found the mother was thin but her puppies were  

plump and healthy this beautiful story of canine  selflessness and loyalty was so touching that it  

was adapted into a movie called a tale of mari  and three puppies by just watching the trailer  

makes me cry i'm not sure i can survive watching  the whole film the point is shiba inu is loyal so  

never abandon him and do your research before  getting one shiba inu is highly intelligent  

and they do not follow command blindly unless it  makes sense to him he is also not a people pleaser  

like some other more well-known dog breeds  combining with the stubborn nature no wonder  

people don't recommend first time dog owner  getting a shiba inu however if you have done your  

research and know what you are getting yourself  into it is not impossible to train him combining  

with the right training technique you can be  successful even as a first-time dog owner i have

shiba ino is an intelligent breed and he uses it  to his own advantage from a scientific perspective  

his intelligence level is among average  compared to other dogs a shiba inu's iq level  

is similar to a human 2 to 3 years old baby and  can be taught up to 165 words smarter dogs can  

be taught up to 250 words if you observe your dog  closely you will be amazed at his ability to sense  

your most subtle emotion even before you realize  a shiba inu also has the ability to intentionally  

trick other dogs or human to get what he wants  whether it is treats playtime or going out  

shiba inu is naturally a clean breed i witnessed  this trade first hand while i visit our breeder  

when jimmy was around four to five weeks old  we were all hang out on an open grass area  

and jimmy will run to the furthest part from  us to potty by nature he likes to keep his home  

and surrounding cling even in our current home  backyard jimmy always picked the furthest corner  

to release and we never train him to do that  so house training should be relatively easy  

as long as you take him out frequently  and give him chance to release outside

i mentioned they are independent and can  be left alone some people might say shiba  

inu is more cat-like compared to other dogs  shiba inu also has some more cat-like traits  

like clean independent and can be left alone  but in general also he likes his freedom  

he does like to live and be around with the  owner for the most part i received questions  

about can they leave shiba inu as an outdoor dog i  don't recommend you keep shiba inu outdoor you can  

let him out for a short play or potty but at the  end of the day he wants to stay close to his home  

you to help your new puppy get used to your scent  and feel safe you can leave an old t-shirt with  

him overnight that way he will feel you are around  and will get used to the new environment faster  

in general shiba inu is not a big barker unless  he senses something he can be a great guard dog  

for our dog jimmy he always dutifully  barks whenever a ups guy drop off a package  

or whenever there is a stranger approaching our  house shiba inu will not bark for no reason so  

if you hear him barks go check on him and see what  he's barking at but in general he is a quiet breed  

shiba inu sheds and when he sheds he sheds a  lot the good news is it is not always shedding  

i am a northwest region in the u.s and my  dog jimmy typically sheds two times a year  

one when the weather gets warm and the other  when it gets cold shiba inu has double coat  

so it is suitable to live in colder region during  shedding season make sure you brush your dog  

often and also have a good vacuum because  you're going to see fur all over your place  

they also do not require frequent bath typically  you should bathe him once every three months  

or less unless he has underlying skin condition  and your vet recommend more frequent bath

another famous or i should say notorious nature  of shiba inu is they have extremely strong will  

this goes along with the stubborn trait  i mentioned earlier shiba inu will fight  

back fiercely when feels frightened and he  will not surrender even when all is lost  

shiba inu will do what he thinks make sense  but not necessarily what makes sense to you  

and they will continue to fight until they get  what they want this trait makes it challenging  

for training a rule of thumb when training  a shiba inu is being very consistent firm  

and patient your puppy will eventually get it and  learn to behave properly if you are consistent  

and firm on the other hand if a shiba  inu develops a strong bond with the owner  

he is very loyal and will protect his home and the  owner fiercely just like mari the japanese shiba  

who protect her owner during earthquake shiba  inu also shows a lot of affections to the owner

he is a weirdo and requires owner to have a  unique sense of humor to find his quirkiness  

my own dog jimmy certainly makes me laugh  every day but he does cause trouble too  

to keep you on your toe if you're getting a shiba  inu be prepared to have a strong heart because  

he's going to bring you surprises  either good or bad on a daily basis  

to summarize shiba'inu is this good looking  stubborn quirky and extremely loyal breed  

they are trainable and can be obedient if the  owner is patient and consistent with the rule
