Hey all, I am Apurva and welcome back to聽 WeDesified this is our 12th video in the聽聽
[4]
study in the USA series in this video we are going聽 to talk all about i20 the information it contains聽聽
[11]
the common mistakes that could happen聽 in the i20 and how to rectify them聽聽
[15]
so let's get to it but before that聽 please subscribe to our channel and聽聽
[18]
click the bell icon so that you will be聽 notified every time we upload a new video
[28]
in the last video we talked about the聽 breakdown of expenditure estimation聽聽
[32]
and the financial documentation you could show聽 to get your i-20 once you submit these documents聽聽
[37]
the college reviews them and processes your聽 i-20 within a week or two and ships it to your聽聽
[42]
home address due to the covered 19 pandemic聽 colleges can send the i-20s over email also聽聽
[48]
otherwise they have to physically courier you聽 the copy and you need to take that form to your聽聽
[53]
visa interview some colleges even charge you for聽 the shipping cost certificate of eligibility for聽聽
[58]
non-immigrant student status also commonly known聽 as form i-20 is the most important document for聽聽
[65]
an international student in the u.s more than聽 the visa stamp i20 is the one that determines聽聽
[71]
how long you can stay in the country legally as聽 a student you need i20 for almost everything like聽聽
[77]
to open a bank account to get your social security聽 number to apply for a driving license to apply for聽聽
[82]
employment or for any official purpose you need聽 a valid i20 so it is very important to make sure聽聽
[89]
all the information on your i20 is correct and聽 up to date what information does the i20 contain聽聽
[95]
i20 is a three page document and the first聽 important thing you should notice is the service聽聽
[100]
id after the 9 11 attacks the u.s reformed聽 its student visa program and introduced savp聽聽
[106]
to keep a record of all foreign students in the聽 u.s under this program each college will issue a聽聽
[111]
unique identification number to every admitted聽 student so if you get multiple admissions and聽聽
[116]
multiple i20s issued you have multiple service聽 numbers on your name and that's totally fine聽聽
[122]
but you need to make sure that you are paying聽 your service fees and submitting the ds160 with聽聽
[126]
the correct service id from the college you聽 want to join the first section contains your聽聽
[131]
personal information such as first and last name聽 date of birth country of birth citizenship etc聽聽
[138]
and they need to exactly match with your passport聽 if you see any discrepancy then reach out to your聽聽
[143]
international office immediately and get it聽 rectified they will issue you a new i-20 with聽聽
[148]
corrected information on the right corner you can聽 see the type of visa you should be applying for聽聽
[155]
next you will see the school name as registered聽 in the savp and the contact information of the聽聽
[160]
school official following that you can see the聽 information about your program make sure the聽聽
[167]
education level and the major mention matches with聽 the program you applied for education level would聽聽
[172]
be bachelors for undergrad students masters for聽 graduate students and doctorate for psja students聽聽
[179]
sometimes the major name can be聽 different from what it is commonly called聽聽
[184]
like computer science is called computer and聽 informational science in some colleges and聽聽
[188]
computational science in some colleges based on聽 how they registered their program name with savp聽聽
[194]
still double check they have mentioned correct聽 information on your i-20 unless you are doing聽聽
[199]
double majors the major 2 field would be none聽 also verify the program start and end dates聽聽
[206]
this start date determines when you can apply聽 for your visa which is 120 days earlier and聽聽
[212]
the earliest admission day tells you when聽 you can enter into united states which is聽聽
[216]
30 days before the start date the end date is聽 usually an estimate of your last day of classes聽聽
[222]
and you are eligible to do opt after that for聽 some reason if your estimated end date changes聽聽
[228]
in the future you can get it updated then but聽 for now for undergraduate students it should聽聽
[234]
be around four years for graduate students it聽 should be around two to two and a half years聽聽
[239]
and for phd students it's about six years聽 the next section is about the financials聽聽
[244]
on the left side they give an estimation for nine聽 months which is fall and spring semesters together聽聽
[249]
and on the right side they provide the breakdown聽 based on the documentation you submitted聽聽
[254]
we have explained the breakdown of聽 financials in the previous video聽聽
[257]
so please check that out you can see the personal聽 funds and funds from your sponsors and scholarship聽聽
[262]
amounts on this right side make sure the estimate聽 is correct for the program you are enrolled in聽聽
[268]
one of the common mistakes that can happen is if聽 you get a scholarship or an assistantship after聽聽
[272]
admission they might miss to mention that in this聽 section so you need to get it corrected because聽聽
[278]
the scholarships and assistantships on your i-20聽 creates a good impression to the visa officer聽聽
[283]
and improves your chances of getting the聽 visa so don't forget to pay attention to this聽聽
[288]
like you can see here if you get a fee waiver聽 and stipend everything will be put under the聽聽
[292]
departmental funding the next section聽 is for the attestation from the school聽聽
[297]
and the last section is for your signature聽 after verifying all the above information聽聽
[302]
you have to get the parent or guardian聽 signature only if you are below 18.聽聽
[307]
many people get it signed without noticing聽 it it's not a big mistake but avoid it聽聽
[312]
if you're a bachelor student and聽 under 18 you should get it signed聽聽
[316]
otherwise just leave it blank you have to sign聽 the i-20 before you appear for the visa interview聽聽
[323]
the second page is for the information about cpt聽 and opt employment authorization when you get it聽聽
[329]
so at this point it will be blank it also contains聽 travel endorsements with this signature your i20聽聽
[336]
is valid for traveling in and out of us聽 for a year from the date of the signature聽聽
[341]
and the third page is a bunch of instructions聽 for the students and schools along with the聽聽
[346]
i-20 the admission packet would also contain聽 useful information about the university these聽聽
[351]
resources help you with your class registrations聽 immunization accommodation fees payments etc and聽聽
[358]
also information about any student organizations聽 that will help your transition to be smooth聽聽
[363]
so don't forget to check that out so that's all聽 we have for today hope this is helpful we will聽聽
