what is price action in forex Trading - YouTube

Channel: The Diary of a Trader

[0]
so let's take a look at a term that is quite聽 loosely used in the forex market and that is聽聽
[15]
what is price action well if you're trading for聽 any time at all you will eventually come across聽聽
[21]
this term and it's not an easily defined term聽 because it's there's no real set parameter as聽聽
[27]
to what it would or would not be ultimately price聽 action is the movement of an asset over time in聽聽
[36]
this case a currency pair in other words if聽 the market is rising it's been bullish or聽聽
[44]
positive and if it's falling it's been bearish聽 or negative you know it can be it can it can be聽聽
[51]
compressed to something that simple luckily China聽 in charting platforms give you the ability to see聽聽
[58]
quite clearly whether or not the market has been聽 rising or falling so as i zoom out you can see聽聽
[65]
that this market has been falling recently has聽 been bullish this is the Aussie yen but this is聽聽
[70]
going to be the same with any pair and it gives聽 you the ability to understand whether or not we聽聽
[77]
are rising or falling over the longer term or聽 you know the shorter term if that's what you're聽聽
[82]
trading now you have to keep in mind that price聽 action encompasses everything that happens the聽聽
[89]
price action is pretty much everything you know聽 sometimes on the stately chart here you can see聽聽
[97]
that the market just goes back and forth there is聽 a consolidation trade there sometimes there are聽聽
[106]
patterns that come out of it you know in this聽 case like a bearish pennant there are bullish聽聽
[116]
flags there are a multitude of other types of聽 shapes that people pay attention to and typically聽聽
[125]
what they're looking at is consolidation and then聽 a continuation or reversal to in this situation聽聽
[134]
and there are literally hundreds of those shapes聽 that people trade and it gives you an idea as to聽聽
[141]
what's likely to happen it gives you an idea of聽 for example being able to read what the market聽聽
[149]
is doing you have the ability to place trades a聽 little bit more strategically so let's go back聽聽
[156]
to perhaps this bearish pennant you could make a聽 serious argument that once we broke down through聽聽
[163]
here that we had broken through some resist from聽 supportive action resisting it going lower so聽聽
[171]
support had been broken and we had continued聽 going forward well if you pay attention to聽聽
[177]
the price action you can see that you can also聽 see that several of these candlesticks formed聽聽
[182]
long wicks to the upside so it shows you that聽 every time they tried to rally it really worked聽聽
[187]
against them now you can also make an argument聽 for resistance being broken so for example you聽聽
[194]
could say that obviously the market is struggling聽 to get above this area you can see that we tried聽聽
[201]
to get there several times and eventually we did聽 broke a break above there and then came back to聽聽
[205]
test it a couple of times it's very common it's聽 something called market memory that is price聽聽
[210]
action price action shows a breakout it shows聽 a pullback it shows a continuation continuation聽聽
[216]
back and forth you should never trade against聽 price action because quite frankly it doesn't聽聽
[222]
matter what you think you know a lot of times聽 you'll see things like you know people on聽聽
[231]
forums saying well price has fallen too far so聽 you could have said that here you know look at聽聽
[236]
how much it fell just over a handful of a couple聽 of days but it got much cheaper a lot of people聽聽
[243]
would say well the Aussie is very cheap against聽 the yen it's at 70 you know I find that to be聽聽
[249]
extraordinarily cheap so therefore I'm going聽 to buy it well it went another thousand pips聽聽
[253]
against you before it finally rallied you know聽 the market will move much quicker than you can聽聽
[260]
anticipate and much further there is no such thing聽 as cheap or expensive at least from a technical聽聽
[267]
a standpoint you can say so from a fundamental聽 standpoint that's an entirely different process聽聽
[272]
and again you need to understand when markets聽 break support or resistance so you look for areas聽聽
[280]
where the market has struggled to either get above聽 or below and again in this case you can see that聽聽
[287]
we had clearly had trouble getting above here and聽 then we broke higher and it put up a nice little聽聽
[293]
trade again this was an area this shape that had聽 offered a lot of support and it offered a great聽聽
[300]
trade so make sure you learn all about that聽 you have to study price action and we have in聽聽
[307]
our series of videos plenty of examples of this聽 to help you become a sex a successful technical聽聽
[313]
trader it involves shapes trends and even to a聽 lesser extent indicators if you do not study and聽聽
[321]
then pay attention to price action you are doomed聽 to fail the market doesn't truly care what you聽聽
[326]
think should happen it will do what it does and聽 it will tell you what it wants to do over time if聽聽
[333]
you work with the market as opposed to against it聽 you obviously have much better chance at success
[345]
you
