[5]
good day everyone its Jennifer McGuire
[7]
now today I wanted to talk about adding
[10]
details to your stamped images using ink
[14]
these little details can make such a big
[16]
impact in your final card and it's worth
[19]
the extra few minutes it takes to do so
[22]
they're very easy to do and you only
[24]
need a couple tools and you likely
[26]
already have them on hand so I have
[28]
these two examples for you first and
[30]
then I'll have one more example at the
[32]
end of this video I'm using some stamps
[35]
today from Alton ooh I really like their
[37]
realistic stamps and it's perfect for
[39]
this technique I'm starting out with the
[41]
pretty pansy stamp set I've always loved
[44]
pansies because they're so strong and
[46]
they hold up in the winter here in
[48]
Cincinnati so I'm excited to have a
[49]
pansy stamp set I'm using my Misti
[52]
stamping tool today however you do not
[54]
need it to do the layering with these
[57]
stamp sets because they are so easy to
[59]
line up the only reason I'm using my
[61]
Misti is I'm making several cards at
[63]
once so that's why I decided to use it I
[66]
like to start with the most solid image
[69]
first I find I get by far get best
[71]
results that way and with the lightest
[73]
color ink now I'm using some new alter
[76]
new colors today these this is a new set
[79]
of yellows that goes from light to super
[81]
dark you can either buy them as a set or
[83]
individually or as a set of cubes and
[85]
the cubes are wonderful too so I'm
[88]
starting with the light yellow and then
[89]
this is the set of green ink I'm going
[91]
to use for all of my cards today I
[94]
really like this combination of these
[96]
three colors of green I'm going to go
[98]
ahead and stamp this onto white card
[100]
stock and it stamps beautifully
[102]
especially that yellow man that is a
[103]
great great yellow I will give you a
[106]
closer look at the altar new inks at the
[108]
end of this video so stay tuned for that
[110]
I'll show you all the colors now I'm
[112]
actually making multiple cards today and
[115]
so I'll show you some of the steps along
[116]
the way now I'm going to make some
[118]
pansies in orange also so this is the
[121]
orange combination from alterna these
[123]
came out a while ago but I actually
[124]
never used them and boy is it also a
[126]
beautiful set of orange I'm also using
[129]
purple because I always think of purple
[131]
pansies this is an older set
[133]
purple inks from ulta new and I'm
[136]
starting again with the lightest colors
[138]
first
[138]
so basically I've started some flowers
[141]
and leaves with the lightest color the
[144]
most solid image in Purple's orange and
[146]
yellow okay so now I wanted to figure
[149]
out what to stamp next and this is like
[151]
the backer card that comes with the
[153]
altar new stamps I didn't have it yet so
[156]
they I asked them to email it to me
[157]
that's why it's on my phone but I'm
[159]
looking at that to refer to what I
[161]
should stamp next I'm actually going to
[163]
use that for something else later in
[165]
this video too so I was easily able to
[168]
line up the next image that's the image
[170]
with the second most amount of surface
[173]
area on it and I am stamping that with
[175]
one ink color darker you can see that
[178]
beautiful yellow there and I actually
[180]
did it with all my yellow pansies my
[182]
orange and my purple just didn't show it
[184]
in the video to save some time so here
[186]
we are with the third layer and one of
[188]
the things I wanted to mention to you is
[190]
that when I line up my stamps I get my
[192]
head right over the images so I can
[194]
closely look through them when you line
[197]
it up that way it's very easy to do I
[199]
can't show that in the video because my
[201]
head gets in the way and you'll see all
[203]
my gray hair in my messy bun and all
[205]
that so I usually edit that out but you
[208]
really want to get down and look from
[209]
all angles and you can line it up
[211]
perfect every time so I do edit that out
[214]
so you don't have to see my messy hair
[216]
but it does help okay so here we are
[219]
with the darkest color of yellow look
[222]
how beautiful that is I'm just swooning
[224]
over it I do like that this altar new
[227]
stamp set offers the outline so you can
[230]
leave it as it is now do it just with
[232]
what you see or you can stamp the
[234]
outline like I did here and I really
[236]
like that look but here I'm going to let
[237]
you compare the one on the Left doesn't
[240]
have the outline and the one on the
[241]
right does so it's totally your option
[243]
and I love that they offer that you
[246]
could also use the outline just to do
[248]
like water coloring in it if you wanted
[250]
to okay so there are these little inside
[252]
pieces that I can stamp with yellow in
[254]
the inside and I just quickly went
[256]
through and did that here there you saw
[258]
the purple and here is the orange mane
[260]
that orange is so vibrant so when I'm
[262]
stamping I often like to do a google
[265]
image search
[266]
on the flower and when I was looking at
[268]
the pansies online I noticed that there
[270]
are a lot of lines in the flower you can
[272]
see like those lines coming out from the
[274]
center I decided I wanted to add some
[276]
details to these beautiful stamped
[278]
images using tools that I have by the
[281]
way there are some beautiful color
[282]
combinations that you can use with pansy
[284]
stamps I just went with basic colors
[286]
okay so to do some lines kind of coming
[289]
out from the center of the flower I'm
[290]
actually using the straight end of my
[294]
bone folder there's just like a little
[296]
straight end on there and I'm pressing
[298]
it onto my ink pad and then tapping it
[301]
on to my stamped image and you'll see
[303]
there these little lines of ink coming
[305]
out from the center now keep in mind dye
[308]
inks are usually a little bit darker and
[310]
they lighten a little bit as they soak
[312]
into the paper and kind of settle in so
[314]
this will soften a bit but it's amazing
[316]
the difference it makes so I'm just
[319]
using that little straight edge of my
[320]
bone folder to ink up and press down
[322]
onto the paper you could also use maybe
[326]
an edge of a credit card and just ink up
[328]
a tiny little bit of the edge and then
[331]
tap that onto your paper now look at you
[333]
can see the difference between the two
[335]
and this will build up as I add more you
[338]
can see those kind of lines coming out
[339]
from the center and I'm going to do this
[341]
on the other pansy too now you'll notice
[344]
there's probably more in maybe the
[347]
purple flower that we're going to do in
[348]
a moment but boy I love the added
[351]
details now when I'm tapping that little
[354]
straight edge of my bone folder onto the
[356]
ink pad I don't actually tap the whole
[358]
part of the edge just like a little bit
[360]
like a quarter inch of it so I can add
[362]
that to my project I'm going to do the
[365]
same with the leaves and I'm just
[366]
following the pattern of the leaves so
[368]
you can kind of see those veins or
[370]
whatever they're called in the leaves
[371]
I'm following that pattern and just
[373]
adding a little more ink and I choose an
[376]
ink color that kind of is medium shade
[378]
so it's not too noticeable but isn't too
[382]
subtle either so here's a quick
[384]
comparison the top card has no details
[386]
added the bottom card does have details
[389]
added it really adds a lot to these
[392]
realistic looking images and it's
[394]
especially effective on the purple and
[396]
orange flowers I'm going to show you a
[398]
photo of those with the
[399]
added details and it really makes a big
[402]
difference so here you can see on the
[404]
purple those lines that are kind of
[406]
coming out from the center really adds a
[408]
lot to it and the same with the orange
[410]
and I also find that this is good for
[412]
other stamp sets where there isn't as
[415]
much layering as these so you can really
[418]
add more realistic touches to your
[420]
images now I cut these all out by hand
[422]
there are coordinating dies available
[424]
but I like to cut out by hand I don't
[426]
know I find it therapeutic and when I do
[429]
so I always like to ink the edges this
[432]
is another little detail that makes a
[434]
big difference
[435]
in the final project so here you can see
[437]
a leaf that didn't have the edges inked
[440]
and one that does
[441]
and I just inked with whatever ink I
[444]
stamped with now a lot of these details
[446]
don't seem like much individually but
[448]
when you pull them together on a card
[450]
they make great impact okay so now I
[453]
wanted to show you how I put these into
[454]
cards and then I'll show you another
[455]
example for the background I'm using
[458]
this new large stamp set from altenew
[460]
now I'm just using that large outline
[462]
image but I wanted to show you that they
[464]
include images that allow you to stamp
[467]
the color into the pattern which i think
[469]
is so cool so it saves a lot of time
[471]
over coloring individually and it gives
[474]
you many ways to use the stamp set now I
[477]
am just using this for a background on
[479]
my cards so I have a four and a quarter
[481]
by five and a half inch white note card
[482]
and I'm stamping that background with
[485]
Versamark ink and I'm one card I'll add
[487]
white embossing powder and on the other
[489]
I'll add gold embossing powder and I'll
[492]
heat set that so to make two cards using
[494]
those pansies one with the gold
[496]
background and one with the white the
[498]
gold is a little more outspoken and the
[501]
white is a little more subtle okay so
[503]
what I did for this background is I use
[506]
a rectangle die from hero arts and just
[509]
die cut a window from the center you
[511]
could also use a craft knife and ruler
[513]
if you wanted to now I'm going to put
[516]
some foam tape around the outside edge
[518]
only and I'm going to put that on to a
[520]
top folding note card the reason I put
[523]
the craft foam only on the outside edge
[525]
is I'm going to tuck some of my flowers
[527]
in behind that window so they look like
[529]
they're peeking out and that leaves me
[531]
some room to tuck them in
[533]
now I wasn't really sure how to arrange
[535]
my pansies but I noticed on that
[536]
packaging from the Alta new stamp set
[539]
I loved how they had theirs arranged so
[541]
I'm totally copying it and that is a
[542]
great way to find inspiration and all I
[546]
did was glue those into the frame using
[548]
foam tape and regular adhesive so they
[551]
look like they're peeking out so after I
[554]
put this all on the front of a white
[556]
note card I had some white peeking out
[558]
the top and the bottom and I thought it
[560]
was kind of boring I wanted to make it
[561]
gold instead so here's the trick that I
[564]
did since it was all glued together I
[565]
press some Versamark ink onto a piece of
[568]
white cardstock and I put on some gold
[570]
embossing powder after I heat set this I
[573]
have some gold embossed paper now from
[576]
this I'm going to trim two thin strips
[578]
of cardstock one to glue at the top of
[580]
my card and want to glue at the bottom
[581]
and then I'm also going to use this as a
[584]
mat for my heat embossed sentiment I
[587]
stamped in gold heat embossed a
[589]
sentiment from an altar new stamp set
[590]
I'll show it to you in a few minutes I'm
[592]
gluing that on to that gold paper and
[594]
then I'm just going to trim that down so
[597]
I have a thin gold matte around the
[599]
sentiment this is a great way to make
[601]
the sentiment stand out and kind of tie
[603]
in with the rest of the card
[604]
adding these pieces to my completed card
[607]
was actually easy now for the gold on
[610]
the top and the bottom
[611]
I just put adhesive on the back and I
[613]
kind of tucked it in there on to the
[615]
card then once I have both the top and
[618]
the bottom added on I can just go ahead
[620]
and flip my card over and trim anything
[622]
that's hanging off so now it looks like
[625]
my card was assembled on a gold embossed
[627]
card but really it's just a little strip
[630]
glued there now to add my sentiment
[632]
strip I'm using these new thin foam
[635]
strips and I am crazy about these I got
[638]
them in assignment so stamp card kit and
[640]
I had to go back and buy more of them
[642]
I'll link to them so you can check them
[644]
out I like that there since I can put
[646]
them on to tiny areas like this and it
[648]
tears easy so you can make smaller
[651]
pieces if you want to I'm crazy about
[652]
them okay so I added that sentiment this
[655]
is the stamp set its called sketchy
[657]
florals from Alta new that's where I got
[659]
that love and hugs message that I like
[661]
so much
[661]
now here's another great detail idea for
[664]
adding to your cards and that is to use
[666]
your
[667]
quickie glue pen to add embossing powder
[669]
so I put a little quickie glue pen in
[671]
the center of my flowers put on some
[674]
gold embossing powder and heat set that
[676]
gives a nice gold touch to those flowers
[678]
and using the quickie glue pen makes it
[681]
very easy to do okay before we move on I
[683]
wanted to show you what I did on the
[685]
inside of these cards now altar knew
[687]
just came out with a great stamp set for
[689]
the inside of cards it's called
[691]
beautiful inside
[692]
I get asked about the inside of cards
[694]
all the time I often leave them blank
[696]
and write my own message but this this
[699]
is so awesome
[700]
so you can see it has bold sentiments
[702]
for the front of the card but then it
[704]
has a variety of longer sentiments for
[706]
the inside and they cover pretty much
[708]
every occasion you could want so this is
[711]
great for stamping on the inside it
[713]
cards and I'm really excited about it
[715]
you'll be seeing me use it a lot in
[716]
future videos okay so for final look at
[719]
these two cards this one has the gold
[721]
heat embossed background and is a little
[723]
more outspoken and here's the subtle
[725]
white heat embossed version I did stamp
[728]
that same background on the flap of a
[730]
matching envelope for each of the cards
[732]
it really kind of ties everything
[733]
together with all the details on the
[736]
front the sentiment on the inside and
[737]
the matching envelope we're good to go
[740]
okay before we take a closer look at the
[742]
altar new inks I wanted to show you one
[744]
more example of adding details to your
[747]
stamped images and I did that on the
[749]
flower that you see here this beautiful
[751]
flower and leaves is from the new altar
[754]
new totally tropical stamp set here it
[757]
is here you can see there's lots of
[758]
flowers leaves and sentiments I just did
[761]
one of the flowers and a couple leaves
[763]
now I did the flower with four new
[765]
shades of pink ink from alternative
[767]
these are beautiful pink colors and I
[770]
went ahead and did the stamping
[771]
off-screen just to save some time I did
[774]
the leaves also with the same green inks
[776]
I used before and here is another
[778]
example of adding details to your
[780]
project now here I have a stylist that
[783]
just has a rounded tip many people have
[786]
this tool for dry embossing and I'm just
[789]
tapping it onto my ink pad and then
[791]
making little dots with the ink onto my
[793]
project this is very easy it takes a few
[796]
minutes but really in the grand scheme
[798]
of a card it doesn't take long at all if
[801]
you
[801]
don't have a stylist you could also use
[803]
the pointed end of your bone folder or
[805]
look around for another tool that has a
[807]
small rounded tip so here on the pink
[810]
flower I added some darker pink dots
[812]
towards the center and then some medium
[815]
pink dots kind of coming out from the
[816]
center and joining in with the edge of
[818]
the flower I think it's fun to add these
[821]
details and by the way you could also
[823]
use it a marker a fine tip marker to do
[825]
this but sometimes I struggle finding a
[827]
marker to match my inks nicely so using
[830]
the inks is a great match okay so now I
[833]
have a background for this that's white
[835]
heat embossed using that medallion stamp
[837]
that I used earlier kind of did it
[839]
off-center it's kind of down in the
[841]
corner and I wanted to add a little bit
[844]
of ink to the background to kind of
[846]
highlight the area where the flower will
[847]
be so I'm using the lightest yellow ink
[850]
it's a citrus yellow I believe and I'm
[853]
using an ink blending tool to very
[854]
lightly add a little bit of yellow in
[857]
that bottom corner once I'm done with
[859]
what I want I go ahead and use a dry
[863]
cloth to buff it off and you have a
[865]
little subtle color to kind of make a
[867]
focal point for your flowers so I pulled
[870]
this together into a card with some gold
[872]
heat embossing on the right edge and a
[874]
gold heat emboss sentiment from the
[876]
totally tropical stamp set and then I
[879]
added two shades of pink pearls just for
[881]
some accents and also some gold
[883]
embossing detail to the center of the
[885]
flower I again use the beautiful inside
[888]
stamp set a different one of the
[889]
messages and stamp that with matching
[891]
pink ink on the inside I did use that
[894]
medallion to stamp on to the flap of my
[897]
envelope and now all of the details of
[899]
the card go together nicely
[900]
okay so I have used a few new colors of
[904]
alternating today there are four new
[906]
sets of colors so that 16 new colors and
[909]
I thought I'd show you all the alter new
[911]
inks together first let's look at the
[913]
new color combinations up here you see
[915]
the four new yellow inks and below that
[918]
are the yellow ink set they had come out
[920]
within the past so I wanted to show you
[922]
how they compare those yellows across
[925]
the top are very bright and I am head
[927]
over heels always looking for good
[929]
yellow and this definitely does the job
[931]
then they also came out with a new set
[934]
of pink
[934]
that's what you see across the top there
[936]
on the bottom is the set of Pink's that
[939]
they came out with previously you can
[941]
see the color names on there so the ones
[943]
on the top are more of a true pink
[945]
whereas the ones on the bottom kind of
[947]
have a purple tone to it so the newer
[949]
ones are more of a true pink that's what
[952]
I used on that card that I just did
[954]
and those Pink's are gorgeous they also
[957]
came out with a beautiful set of blues
[959]
and they are the set that you see across
[961]
the top there and below that are the
[964]
Blues that they had come out with in the
[966]
past you can see there is a pretty good
[968]
difference between all of them the top
[970]
seems to be more of a true kind of
[972]
turquoise II blue in the middle you have
[975]
a basic like denim blue set and on the
[977]
bottom is like a purplish blue that
[979]
Parisian blue right there a whole I'm so
[981]
crazy about that haven't used it yet I
[983]
need to use that but again the new ones
[985]
are across the top I also thought I'd
[988]
show you a closer look at my ink swatch
[990]
pages for the complete alter new ink
[992]
collection now I'm just going to slowly
[994]
show you all the colors if you want to
[997]
take a closer look at a color or a name
[999]
of a color you can just hit pause so you
[1002]
will notice here that most of the
[1004]
alternate inks come in four together so
[1007]
there is a light a medium a dark and a
[1009]
super dark you can buy them separately
[1011]
or together and you can buy them in sets
[1013]
of cubes I really like this because it
[1017]
takes the guesswork out of what colors
[1019]
go together and this is a great dye ink
[1022]
they call it a crisp dye ink so it
[1024]
really does stamp and dry beautifully
[1027]
now this ink I find doesn't really stain
[1029]
my stamps much and I know that people
[1031]
find that to be a great quality you can
[1034]
see there are many colors here pretty
[1036]
much any color you need including black
[1038]
now if you want an ink swatch download
[1041]
to create your own ink swatch pages you
[1043]
can just head to my blog where I'll have
[1045]
a free download for this ink and I will
[1047]
