Indicted Trump Organization CFO Removed From Top Roles At Subsidiaries - YouTube

nbc news has learned that indicted trump
[2]
organization executive alan weisselberg
[4]
has been quietly removed from top
[5]
positions at more than two dozen trump
[7]
subsidiaries but weisselberg who was
[9]
indicted on tax fraud charges this month
[12]
and has pleaded not guilty does still
[14]
remain cfo of the trump organization
[17]
nbc news senior washington correspondent
[18]
hallie jackson joins us now from
[20]
washington to break this all down for us
[22]
so hallie
[22]
tell us what does this mean where does
[24]
weisselberg stand right now within the
[26]
trump org
[27]
so let's start with kind of the nuts and
[29]
bolts of that joe just to answer your
[30]
questions here um
[32]
and this is interesting right because
[33]
you have weisselberg now nbc news has
[35]
confirmed based on public records
[37]
and filings in the state of florida
[38]
being removed as an officer from
[40]
like more than two dozen trump
[42]
organizations subsidiaries
[44]
so that has happened you might it's not
[46]
like they announced it in a press
[47]
release right it happened
[48]
a little bit quietly just these filings
[50]
that were put in place why that's the
[52]
big question i can tell you based on my
[54]
conversations with a source familiar
[55]
with this move
[56]
that the reason that this happened was
[58]
for
[59]
what was described as prudent corporate
[62]
governance right and the idea being that
[64]
by doing this by taking wesselberg's
[66]
name off of some of these
[67]
records it essentially could help the
[69]
trump organization avoid any potential
[71]
potential pitfalls
[73]
in the state of florida i i will note
[76]
that the emphasis was that weisselberg's
[77]
role at this point appears to remain
[79]
unchanged inside the trump organization
[81]
but joe let me tell you this move is
[83]
being seen by some observers as a
[85]
potential
[86]
signal of maybe change right maybe
[89]
weisselberg
[90]
doesn't stay as cfo for much longer i
[92]
let me just
[93]
caveat here i'm a reporter as you know
[95]
sticking to the facts
[96]
that is you know speculation and
[98]
conjecture on the part of some people
[100]
who are observing what is happening here
[102]
um because right now remember the trump
[104]
organization has thrown its weight
[106]
fully behind its cfo even after the
[109]
indictments came down joe you'll
[110]
remember that they released this
[111]
statement you know praising weisselberg
[113]
as this
[114]
loving grandfather talking about his
[116]
nearly five decades
[118]
with the trump organization uh it seems
[120]
unlikely to me based on conversations
[122]
that i have had with people close to the
[124]
situation
[124]
that the trump work would just turn
[125]
around right now and you know cut
[127]
weisselberg out
[128]
completely because of this indictment
[129]
and in fact if they were to do that
[131]
joe that would actually undercut their
[133]
entire pr push here
[135]
they have tried to portray these charges
[137]
as simply politically motivated
[139]
insisting that weisselberg did nothing
[141]
wrong and essentially has nothing to
[142]
hide partly why he has pleaded not
[144]
guilty
[144]
as you've noted and we know they're not
[146]
big on backing down on anything so the
[149]
big question of course a lot of folks
[150]
have
[150]
is looking forward uh have we learned
[152]
anything any possible clues about
[154]
whether there could be
[155]
other potential charges against the
[156]
trump organization or whether there
[157]
would be
[158]
any charges at all against the former
[160]
president himself
[161]
let me take that in two buckets first
[163]
any charges coming against others in the
[165]
trump organization
[166]
prosecutors have been very clear and
[168]
they have said explicitly
[170]
that this is an ongoing investigation
[172]
basically
[173]
dangling out this hint that we're still
[175]
actively working on it that said
[178]
they have not issued any other
[179]
indictments obviously we would have
[181]
heard about it
[182]
and there has been nothing public on
[183]
that front which indicates that they are
[185]
continuing to work at least behind the
[186]
scenes
[187]
i will say there's another uh sort of
[189]
key moment that is going to be happening
[190]
in the weisselberg case coming up in
[192]
september so that's one thing that we're
[193]
looking ahead to
[194]
as for the potential charges against
[196]
former president trump listen
[197]
he he was not charged he was not part of
[200]
the most recent you know
[201]
the round of indictments that we've seen
[202]
those first criminal charges in this
[205]
long time ongoing new york district
[207]
attorney investigation
[208]
if that were to happen and that is a
[210]
huge if still at this point joe
[212]
we're not going to know for from what i
[215]
understand from legal experts here
[217]
months if not years right it's not like
[220]
we're turning around tomorrow and and
[221]
may hear word of that if in fact that
[223]
were to happen uh so that's kind of
[224]
where we stand at the moment all right
[226]
we know you'll stay on top of it hallie
[227]
