Best Certificates for Business Professionals in 2022 - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
acquiring professional certificates can
[2]
be quite time consuming it can take
[3]
quite a lot of effort to get them so
[6]
today in this video i want to inquire
[7]
the question what the most important
[10]
certificates for business professionals
[13]
really are so welcome to another coffee
[15]
break here on my channel from learning
[17]
my name is heinrich i'm a former
[19]
mckinsey consultant and on my channel i
[21]
talked about how to become successful in
[23]
the first years of your career so this
[25]
video is informed by my six years in
[27]
consulting having seen lots of companies
[29]
in that time and i also asked you on
[31]
instagram to get your opinion what the
[33]
most important certificates are and why
[35]
so all of this has been gone into this
[37]
video but to get some clarity of what it
[39]
is that i'm talking about let's mention
[40]
four areas that i will not cover in this
[42]
video and the first are very regular
[45]
university degrees something like a
[47]
bachelor master and mba this is not what
[49]
i will talk about this is not what i'm
[51]
considering a certificate same is true
[53]
for professional certifications that you
[54]
just need to work on a specific job this
[57]
for instance is a bar exam in law i'm
[60]
also not including a cpa or an acca or
[63]
any other accounting certification like
[64]
that next i will not consider
[66]
certifications that are very specific to
[68]
it so sap certification certifications
[71]
from google and finally i will also not
[74]
include certifications that are very
[75]
specific to just one sub area of
[77]
business something like a cpim and
[79]
supply chain or cma in accounting and
[82]
again exception will be those that are
[83]
more broadly recognized and applicable
[85]
all that being said let's jump here into
[88]
our tier list here with the s tier being
[90]
the highest tier and the dtr being the
[93]
lowest tier here in the rank that we are
[95]
going to do now let's start with
[96]
certifications from platforms like
[98]
udacity or coursera and so on and those
[101]
from your platforms where you do get a
[103]
certificate to a structured online
[105]
course and there is some type of
[107]
examination logic in the end where not
[110]
everyone necessarily gets a certificate
[112]
that goes over the curriculum and i'm
[114]
placing these types of certificates in
[116]
the sea tier and my rational here is
[119]
that yes often you learn quite a lot of
[121]
things it can be really helpful it also
[123]
must have once took a udacity course and
[125]
i did learn a lot of things from that
[127]
though the truth is i would still argue
[129]
that these types of courses are not that
[132]
respected by employers there's not
[134]
really the perception behind it that you
[136]
have such a certificate you're already
[137]
an expert in this field you really
[139]
accomplish something significant if you
[141]
passed so yes you will learn good things
[143]
but no i do not think that this will
[145]
make a huge impact on your career next
[147]
let's talk about scrum master
[148]
certifications and for the uninitiated
[150]
the scrum master is a role in the agile
[153]
methodology often used for instance in
[155]
modern software development i place this
[158]
in the seat here for the reasons that on
[160]
one inside this is i think a skill that
[162]
is not that narrow i think you can apply
[165]
agile methodologies in many different
[167]
areas in business not only for instance
[170]
software development and i do think that
[172]
the sole trend towards moving to agile
[174]
is very valuable and many businesses
[177]
cherish this and value this and
[179]
especially this idea of being a scrum
[181]
master is something with some positive
[184]
connotation tied to it there's several
[185]
quite renowned institutions where you
[187]
can do a scrum master certification as
[189]
long as you pick one of them i don't
[191]
think you'll make huge steps in your
[193]
career only because of that but i think
[195]
it is very much worth checking it out
[197]
quite similar to the scrum master i see
[199]
the six sigma belt certifications so
[201]
this is a principle often applied in
[203]
production it is about process quality
[206]
it is about continuous improvement and
[209]
this is something that i think many
[210]
people know many people know about it's
[212]
a system where you start with a white
[214]
belt and then you can advance up to a
[216]
black belt i think the last one is a
[217]
master belt it is something that many
[220]
people know i think the six sigma
[222]
principles are very well applicable in
[223]
many different types of business outside
[225]
of production as well and people will
[227]
respect it if you say that you're a sick
[229]
sigma black belt next to talk about
[232]
language certifications like the turfer
[234]
like the ielts tesla certifications
[236]
where you prove that your language
[238]
abilities meet a certain level and these
[241]
types of certifications actually often
[242]
require to get for instance into master
[245]
degrees also into mba programs the
[248]
reason why i put them into the details
[250]
not that they are worthless surely can
[252]
help to prove we have one of these
[254]
certifications and then of course you
[256]
would like to have a nice high score to
[258]
make you make use of it it's nice to use
[260]
this to prove that your english skills
[262]
are really meeting very high standards
[264]
but the truth is also especially for
[266]
these high-paced career roads in ib in
[269]
consulting if you apply to a firm like
[270]
mckinsey bcg bane people will just
[273]
assume that you have very good english
[275]
skills it's not really something where
[278]
people will test you for some consulting
[280]
firms do decide to have just an english
[282]
component in one of the interviews where
[283]
they just converse with you in english
[285]
to see whether you're up to the level
[287]
but if you pass this usually you will
[289]
get the checkbox and then it doesn't
[291]
really matter how high exactly your turf
[294]
score was in the end next let's talk
[296]
about the pmp the project management
[298]
professional certification this is a
[300]
certification where you prove that you
[302]
have project management skills that you
[304]
can lead teams understand what
[306]
stakeholder management is all about
[308]
master the common project management
[310]
skills and abilities and this is one
[313]
where i said this is very well known
[314]
well respected people will know usually
[317]
what this is and then on the other hand
[319]
there's also the fact that in almost all
[321]
modern business roads there will be some
[323]
type of project management expected from
[326]
you this is surely true and consulting
[327]
but also if you work in industry project
[330]
management is just part of almost every
[333]
modern business role which is i believe
[335]
it is just very important very relevant
[337]
and also quite well respected so this
[339]
should justify the a tier for the pmp
[342]
certification and now let's talk about
[344]
another certification that i would place
[346]
in the eight year and this is the case
[349]
score the candidate select score
[352]
and candidate select is actually the
[354]
sponsor of today's video so what are
[357]
they solving put yourself into the shoes
[359]
of a student you started one of the
[361]
prestigious target business schools and
[364]
maybe your score in the top 10 percent
[367]
of your cohort and this prestigious
[370]
target business school but are you not
[372]
just in general in the top 10 percent of
[374]
business students well likely not likely
[377]
you're much better right like your
[378]
personal time will be much higher
[380]
because of course there's already a
[382]
pre-selection of students attending this
[385]
specific target business school it
[388]
wouldn't be fair to compare yourself to
[390]
another person the top 10
[393]
of maybe a non-target business school
[396]
and these are exactly the considerations
[397]
that case wants to solve with their
[400]
certification program because case is
[402]
the provider of a fair and objective
[404]
evaluation of university degrees both
[406]
for students and also for employers and
[409]
they do this by collecting lots of great
[411]
distributions for many many universities
[413]
and degrees and combine this with over
[415]
400 000 data points of iq tests and
[419]
personality tests to algorithmically put
[421]
all the grades in the right context so
[424]
with case you can get a certificate as
[425]
the proof of your actual academic
[428]
performance above and beyond just the
[430]
absolute great and the truth is that
[432]
many companies including boston
[434]
consulting group kearney airbus tyson
[438]
group among many others they respect the
[440]
certification actually encourage
[442]
applicants to apply with this
[444]
certification to the job the case
[447]
certificate is currently offered for
[448]
eight different countries this includes
[450]
germany china india italy portugal spain
[454]
uk and usa so if you're interested for
[457]
the certificate case provided the link
[459]
for the from learning community where
[461]
you can actually get the basic version
[463]
of this certificate completely for free
[466]
just exit it via the link in the video
[468]
description the free version already
[470]
gives you a basic understanding where
[471]
you fall into the adjusted grade
[473]
distribution some basic statistics
[474]
around that and if you want even more
[476]
insights this opportunity to get a
[478]
premium certificate for a small
[480]
additional sum next let's talk about
[482]
certificates from online learning
[483]
platforms like udemy or skillshare i
[486]
personally like these platforms quite a
[488]
lot i also personally took many courses
[491]
on these platforms and i'm actually also
[492]
offering some of my basic courses on
[495]
these platforms as well the reason why i
[497]
put them here in the detail is that
[500]
actually i think while you might learn a
[502]
lot of things it's not really respected
[504]
in the employer market and the reasons
[506]
that often these certificates do not
[508]
really have proper examination
[510]
structures and this for me is the
[512]
difference comparing these certificates
[513]
to certificates from platforms like
[515]
udacity or coursera where there are
[517]
proper exams in the end these types of
[519]
examinations just do not happen for
[521]
these types of online degrees which is
[523]
why employers can already trust that you
[524]
have the skills and of course the
[526]
quality of these courses can also differ
[528]
quite a lot depending on the instructor
[530]
that you follow which is why i think the
[532]
details justified next let's talk about
[534]
the cfi and specifically the fmva
[537]
certification which is the financial
[538]
modeling evaluation certification and
[541]
yes this is a quite industry specific
[544]
function specific certificate the reason
[546]
why i'm mentioning this is that because
[547]
i think that many people actually know
[549]
it also just beyond the world of finance
[551]
it just shows that you have analytical
[553]
skills it shows that you are good in
[555]
excel good and modeling good and data
[557]
analysis which is why i think that this
[559]
is actually something worth mentioning
[561]
and many people also from the community
[562]
on instagram told me that yes they know
[565]
about the certification and they failed
[567]
that really helped them in the
[568]
application process which is why
[570]
included it here in the b tier let's now
[573]
talk about certifications from business
[575]
schools these are certifications that
[577]
are recently in the last one or two
[578]
years also see lots of ads on business
[581]
schools seem to promote these
[582]
certificates quite extensively you can
[584]
do certificates on all types of
[586]
different topics general management
[588]
finance blockchain crypto sustainability
[592]
and so on and often they're quite
[594]
renowned universities behind it offering
[596]
them and then in a couple of weeks for a
[598]
couple of thousand euros or dollars that
[600]
you need to pay you will get their
[602]
certificate and let's now start talking
[604]
about certificates that are offered by
[605]
non-target schools so proper
[608]
universities but not really target
[610]
schools and frankly here i think these
[612]
types of certificates are not that
[614]
different from certificates from
[615]
platforms like udacity coursera the
[617]
universities are not that renowned yes
[619]
there will likely be solid content
[621]
because it comes from an established
[623]
university or there's also some type of
[625]
examination structure in the end which
[627]
is why i decided to put them here in the
[629]
same tier here in the seat here and
[631]
let's contrast that from exactly these
[633]
certificates that are now offered from
[635]
target business schools so certificates
[637]
may be offered by harvard business
[639]
school by stanford by wharton any of
[642]
these other very renowned business
[644]
schools i think content wise maybe
[647]
they're a little bit better maybe not
[648]
who knows where it probably depends on
[650]
the specific degree of course now you
[652]
have the advantage of having this
[654]
reputation this big brand name on your
[657]
cv which maybe makes your cpu
[659]
a little bit more frankly though i think
[662]
that there's a very significant
[663]
difference comparing such a certificate
[666]
that you maybe make at harvard comparing
[668]
it to a proper bachelor degree at
[670]
harvard to proper mba at harvard how
[673]
this will be perceived is just very very
[676]
different and the main reason is that
[678]
everyone will know that you just paid
[680]
yourself into it usually it's really not
[682]
difficult to get into these certificates
[684]
you just need to pay a couple of
[685]
thousand bucks and then you can do it
[688]
you can write exams in the end it's not
[690]
really considered to be a big
[692]
achievement to have done that you might
[694]
learn some good interesting things and
[696]
yes it might give you a little bit of a
[697]
plus on the cv but don't expect that
[700]
only because you do that this will
[701]
really move your career forward in a
[703]
significant way that's at least my
[705]
humble opinion let me know in the
[707]
comments if you made any other
[708]
experiences on that next let's talk
[710]
about the gmat the graduate management
[712]
ability test and this might be a little
[714]
bit of a controversial choice but i do
[716]
think it's justified to put the gmat in
[719]
the eight year and maybe first for the
[720]
uninitiated the gmat stands for general
[723]
management admission test it's an entry
[726]
exam that is required for many advanced
[728]
business degrees including almost all
[730]
renowned mbas and it consists of
[733]
different sections integrated reasoning
[735]
we need to make sense of information is
[737]
presented to you quantitative skills we
[739]
need to do quant exercises and also
[742]
verbal logic exercises that you need to
[744]
do so first of all i did the gmat as
[747]
well when preparing for the gmat for my
[750]
mbas actually i did learn a couple of
[752]
things i would argue that my quorn
[753]
skills did improve quite a bit just by
[756]
preparing for the gmat in a structured
[758]
way actually made a video in the past
[760]
about my gmat journey i will link it
[762]
somewhere above your check it out if
[763]
you're interested on that but i do think
[765]
that a strong gmat score and of course
[767]
the value of the gmat will be very much
[769]
determined by the score is a very strong
[772]
indicator towards employers and i do
[775]
think it can help you to get the job get
[777]
that interview invitation and it's so
[779]
secret that many consulting firms
[780]
actually asking in their application
[782]
forms for your gmat score if you took
[785]
one that will want to know what your
[787]
score was but of course don't make
[789]
yourself illusions here if you have a
[791]
score that is below 650 for instance as
[794]
a gmat just to provide a couple of
[796]
ballpark numbers
[797]
this will likely more hurt you than help
[800]
you and then probably from 650 to 700
[803]
that's like nah you know it's like not
[805]
really good not really that strong
[808]
nothing that will really help you to
[809]
necessarily get invited if you score 700
[812]
or higher this i'd say usually would be
[814]
considered a good score a solid score
[817]
well it will definitely not hurt you
[818]
potentially that will also really show
[820]
your analytical abilities your
[821]
intellectual aptitude but i'd say to
[824]
really impress someone to really impress
[827]
someone with your gmat score you need a
[829]
score of 740 750 ideally or even higher
[833]
and then this will put you in the top
[835]
one percent top two percent top three
[837]
percent of the test takers this is where
[840]
you can really impress people with and
[841]
if you do score above the 700s then i
[844]
would argue for many many positions this
[846]
will help you quite a lot now let's talk
[848]
about the one certification that i would
[850]
put into the s tier and this is the cfa
[854]
the chartered financial analyst and yes
[857]
this is a certification that is of
[859]
course based on one industry on one
[861]
function and the finance function and it
[864]
is also true that actually you can only
[866]
hold this certification in the end if
[868]
you work for i believe in four years or
[871]
so in this area of business before that
[873]
you will not even get it but i would
[875]
argue you don't even need to have the
[877]
full final cfa in the end just the fact
[880]
that you completed a cfa level one for
[883]
instance or level two or level three so
[885]
three levels of exams you need to take
[887]
level one level two and level three and
[889]
then at least this is i believe how it
[890]
works if you have level three and also
[892]
meet these other requirements like
[893]
having a certain amount of work
[894]
experience you will get the title if you
[897]
just have the first levels this already
[899]
shows that you have very good finance
[902]
skills very good analytical quantitative
[905]
skills and the truth is almost everyone
[908]
in the business community knows the cfa
[910]
just a very very respected certification
[913]
frank if i look also at my former
[915]
colleagues at mckinsey what
[916]
certifications they did frankly none of
[919]
them had a pmp at least as far as i'm
[921]
aware almost none of them worked maybe
[923]
with a scrum master or six sigma belt
[926]
besides maybe the people really working
[928]
in the specialized practice in this area
[930]
but if you would look at the cvs of
[931]
these people quite a few of them had
[933]
actually cfa's completed or at least the
[936]
first levels this is very common the
[938]
truth is also that the passing rates
[940]
actually the failure rates of these safe
[942]
a levels are quite high for these
[944]
certifications about fifty percent five
[946]
zero i believe for the first level even
[948]
up to sixty percent six zero of the
[950]
people fail just showing that there is a
[953]
certain rigor behind it that not
[955]
everyone gets that you really need to
[957]
prove your worth show what you are able
[959]
to do but now all that being said do i
[961]
think that you really need these
[963]
certifications to succeed in business to
[965]
advance your career of course it's
[967]
difficult to give black and white
[969]
answers on that it might also depend on
[971]
the environment the company that you
[972]
apply for but i'd argue especially if
[974]
you apply for consulting role it's also
[977]
for investment banking so these that say
[979]
traditional high-paced careers
[981]
actually these certifications are not
[984]
really needed i can promise you you will
[986]
not get hired because you have these
[988]
fancy certifications on your resume if
[991]
at all if you have a very high gmat or
[993]
maybe a strong cfa of course this can
[995]
help this can underline your analytical
[998]
aptitude but i've never in my whole life
[1001]
overheard any people say oh this person
[1004]
this guy this lady such a strong person
[1007]
just to look at his or her impressive
[1009]
certifications this is just not how it
[1012]
works so take all of this with a grain
[1014]
of salt of course also this ranking it's
[1016]
not a science just my personal judgment
[1019]
let me know in the comments what your
[1020]
perspective on that is very open to
[1022]
engage in a conversation with you what i
[1024]
think is a nice little offering is the
[1026]
case course certificate that i talked
[1028]
about the firm that is actually also
[1030]
sponsoring this video once again you can
[1032]
download your personal case certificate
[1035]
in the most basic version for free check
[1037]
out the link in the video description to
[1039]
get access to that it is quite respected
[1041]
by several employers and available in
[1042]
many countries so as always if you took
[1044]
any value out of this video at all
[1046]
destroy the like button subscribe turn
