What Happens When An Annuity Owner Dies Before Annuitization? - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
So, what happens when an annuity聽
owner dies before annuitization?聽聽
[4]
It's a sad thought. Hi, I'm stan the annuity聽
man. Typically, I'm bouncing off the walls,聽聽
[9]
I'm happy but we're talking about death. So,聽
I'm just going to bring it down a little bit.聽聽
[14]
Yes, I'm america's annuity agent. Yes,聽
I'm licensed in all 50 states. And yes,聽聽
[17]
I'm holding flowers, why? Because you're dead. So,聽
you have to find out what happens when you're dead聽聽
[24]
to your annuity? We're going to cover that.聽
I will offer this. I will fly in and I will聽聽
[29]
sing at your funeral. Acapella, I mean it would be聽
beautiful, I have a great voice. I really don't,聽聽
[34]
but I'd love to do that, but I digress. And聽
I'm now happy and you know why I'm now happy?聽聽
[38]
Because you're not dead yet. You're watching聽
the video, which is great. Can i throw...? No,聽聽
[43]
I'm not going to throw these. I don't have聽
to send these. So, what happens when an聽聽
[47]
annuity owner dies before annuitization?聽
We're going to find out after this music.聽聽
[64]
So, what happens when an annuity owner dies after聽
annuitization? What happens if you die before the聽聽
[70]
annuity has been fully paid? What happens if the聽
annuitant dies before the annuity start date?聽聽
[77]
All of those questions and more are going to聽
be covered in this video. So, let's talk about聽聽
[84]
the definition of annuitization. Annuitization,聽
think of when you were growing up as a kid you聽聽
[89]
had a water faucet at the back porch or something聽
of your home, and you turn on the water and the聽聽
[94]
water flows. Think about ripping the knob off that聽
water faucet and the water is just going to flow.聽聽
[99]
That is in essence the visualization of聽
annuitization. Annuitization is an irrevocable聽聽
[105]
lifetime income stream. So, did that annuitization聽
definition make sense? If not, put something in聽聽
[112]
the comments and I'll respond. It's important to聽
remember with annuities, annuities are contracts.聽聽
[118]
I mean remember that. In fact, I don't even聽
call them investments, I call them contracts,聽聽
[122]
why? Because you're going to get a policy in the聽
mail when you buy one which is a contract. Now,聽聽
[126]
when you set up your annuity at the time of聽
application, of course my team is going to聽聽
[130]
take care of all of that from start to finish. But聽
one of the questions they're going to ask you is,聽聽
[134]
"Who do you want to list as the beneficiary聽
of the policy if something happens to you?"聽聽
[139]
If your Learjet hits the mountain, if your Ferrari聽
hits the tree, if your Bentley flips over, right?聽聽
[144]
What happens? I don't have that. I don't have that聽
but what, you know? When you die, what happens to聽聽
[149]
the money? Well, the beneficiaries have to be in聽
place. And you can put on as the beneficiary you聽聽
[154]
can put a spouse, a non-spouse, you can put your聽
children, you could put your grandchildren, you聽聽
[160]
could put a trust, you could put a charity. And聽
this is all things that you need to think about聽聽
[164]
when you're setting up that annuity structure, is聽
what happens to the money when you pass away? Now,聽聽
[171]
obviously we will walk you through all of that聽
answer, all the questions that you have on how to聽聽
[176]
structure primary or secondary type beneficiaries.聽
But just understand that when you sign the聽聽
[181]
paperwork for that annuity contract, we're going聽
to need to list the beneficiaries of the policy.聽聽
[187]
Hey, just a thought, I mean because you might聽
be thinking about setting up beneficiaries,聽聽
[191]
you might want to share this video with your聽
potential beneficiaries. Unless they've made聽聽
[195]
you mad and then you don't send it to them.聽
But if they're still in good standing with you,聽聽
[199]
I'd let them know about it. So, what really聽
happens depends on the contractual guarantees聽聽
[204]
of that specific policy. So, single premium聽
immediate annuities, deferred income annuities,聽聽
[210]
qualified longevity annuity contracts, those are聽
annuitization structures. So, it really comes down聽聽
[215]
on how you have that structuring of that lifetime聽
income or period certain income at the time of聽聽
[221]
application. Just remember with those products聽
there's a myriad of ways to set them up. And聽聽
[225]
then let's go over to the deferred annuities like聽
multi-year guarantee annuities and fixed indexed聽聽
[230]
annuities. You know, typically that's that full聽
cash value on debt to the beneficiaries. Remember,聽聽
[237]
annuities are contracts. And when you die聽
some annuities will pay out the full value聽聽
[242]
to your beneficiaries and some annuities will pay聽
out the surrender value to your beneficiaries.聽聽
[248]
Important thing to know and that's something聽
that me and you need to talk about. Okay,聽聽
[253]
so let's talk about spousal versus non-spousal聽
options when they're listed as beneficiaries. Now,聽聽
[259]
if the spouse is the primary beneficiary, the sole聽
beneficiary of the policy, they can continue that聽聽
[265]
policy as is. But they also have all of the other聽
choices that a beneficiary has when you pass away.聽聽
[273]
So, understand that, talk to your husband and or聽
wife wherever that's applicable and say, "Hey,聽聽
[278]
if I die and you are the primary beneficiary,聽
you get to continue the policy if you want聽聽
[283]
to do that or you can take advantage of the聽
other beneficiary choices that are available."聽聽
[290]
So, the choices for non-spousal beneficiaries are聽
as follows, number 1, you could take the lump sum聽聽
[296]
death benefit, okay? Number 2, you can take聽
that death benefit over a 5-year time period.聽聽
[302]
In a non-IRA, you can get a lifetime income stream聽
if you want to. And in an IRA, you can take that聽聽
[309]
income stream over a 10-year time period. I know聽
that's a lot so let me do it again, all right? So,聽聽
[315]
here are the 4 choices, you can take the death聽
benefit lump sum or you can take the death benefit聽聽
[321]
spread out over a 5-year time period. Or in a聽
non-IRA setting you can take a lifetime income聽聽
[329]
and the final choice is in an IRA setting,聽
you can lengthen those payments out 10 years.聽聽
[335]
So, wasn't that fun? Talking about death. Yes, I聽
have new flowers for your arrangement. The good聽聽
[340]
news is you're still alive. I'm glad you joined us聽
for this video. It was a lot of fun. Just remember聽聽
[345]
the stat, 1 out of 1 of us is going to die. And聽
that's pretty good odds. With that being said,聽聽
[350]
go to theannuityman.com. You got 3 things to聽
do there, number 1, get my books, they're free,聽聽
[355]
I'll ship them to you. No one's going to show聽
up at your door, no one's going to call you.聽聽
[358]
Number 2, use the annuity calculators, you can run聽
your own quotes, so you'd like fees, all kinds of聽聽
[364]
stuff. And number 3, most importantly, schedule聽
a call with yours truly, Stan the Annuity Man,聽聽
