are struggling to make

that are announcing that eligible

as of june 1st 2600 applicants have

requested

over 5.4 million dollars in rent and

utility assistance but out of all those

applications

39 have now been approved and stimulus

aid of roughly 124 thousand dollars

is now expected to go to the respective

eligible renters so you see guys

this is what we're all going to be

yesterday president biden he went on a

visit in tulsa

oklahoma commemorating the 100th

anniversary of the tesla race massacre

in 1921. now how is that connected to

the talks on student loan forgiveness

well if you could still remember

back in february the congressional
[317]
progress caucus they released a

statement on the urgent need to cancel

50 000 in student loan debt and i quote

45 million americans

are stuck in the student debt trap
[328]
saddled with more than 1.6 trillion

dollars

in debt that prevents them from pursuing
[333]
their dreams starting families
[335]
and investing in our communities and it

continued to say people of color are
[339]
disproportionately burdened
[341]
by student loan debt creating a vicious
[343]
cycle of black and brown borrowers and
[345]
widening the racial gap canceling
[347]
student loan debt
[348]
is not only widely supported by the
[350]
american people but it is also an
[351]
economic justice
[353]
and racial justice issue so you see

there are indeed ties between student
[357]
loan debt
[358]
in the united states and the racial
[360]
wealth gap now apparently

while president biden announced a number

of measures aimed at

tackling the racial wealth gap in his

speech just yesterday

student loan debt cancellation was not

among them now

naacp president derek johnson criticized
[374]
president biden for this

as well as the general lack of movement

on student loan

cancellation saying and i quote until we

address the student loan debt crisis

which disproportionately impacts african

americans

we can never get to the question of home

ownership therefore

accumulating wealth now if you're not

familiar with the naacp

well it stands for the national

association of the advancement of

colored people

and essentially it's a civil rights

organization with a mission to

ensure the political education social

and economic equality of rights of all

persons as well as

to eliminate racial hatred and racial

discrimination in the united states now

just to be clear

johnson wasn't all opposed to president

biden in fact previously he lauded the

biden administration for heading in the

right direction

on closing the wealth gap so it seems

like he's definitely not against

president biden just

how he handled this particular issue

however when it comes to student loan

debt forgiveness he's one of the people

who are urging the president to go

further and cancel the loan but anyway

right now with the recent announcement

of the federal budget

as well as the speech from yesterday it

appears as though we're you know gonna

need more voices in support

of student loan forgiveness to see the

they continue to oppose quite a few

would actually be able to settle those

differences of course among
