"My Red Carpet Trauma" - TREVOR NOAH (Pay Back The Funny) 2015 - YouTube

[0]
Recently, because of my job on the Daily Show
[3]
I got invited to very prestigious events
[6]
Iâve started getting invited to very, very fancy functions.
[9]
Functions I would have never been invited to before.
[11]
You know, recently I got invited to my Uncleâs wedding.
[17]
He never knew me before this.
[20]
And before that I got invited to an event in New York
[24]
Called: The Met Gala, a very prestigious event.
[28]
Where 500 people are gathered together.
Different personalities, from all walks of life
[31]
come together. Actors, Singers, Painters, Musicians. Everyone.
[37]
And you spend the night, dressed very nicely.
[39]
Looking at History and Art.
[42]
You just walk around, smiling, looking sophisticated.
[46]
And itâs so exclusive, that they tell you
exactly what you're gonna be wearing at the event.
[53]
Not dress code, exactly what you are going to wear.
[56]
So I got phoned and they said, âTrevor,
weâd like to invite you to the Met Galaâ.
[58]
I was like, âWow, okay.â
[59]
And they said, âYou will be wearing a Ralph Lauren suit.â
[63]
And I was like, âOkay, how much?!â
[68]
âIs a Ralph Lauren?â
[69]
But they were like, âNo, no, no, we provide it for you.â
[71]
âRalph Lauren is going to be giving you the suit.â
[73]
And I was like, âWow, I get to go to the Ralph
Lauren store and pick up a suit for myself?â
[78]
âThey're like, âNo, no, no, the man Ralph
Lauren is going to give you a suit.â
[82]
Do you know how mind-blowing that is?
[85]
To meet the man whose name is on your clothing?
[87]
Like thatâs never happened to me,
I have never had the opportunity
[91]
To meet the man whose name is on my clothing.
[93]
I have never had the chance to say,
âPleasure to meet you, Mr. Price.â
[104]
This is a new world for me.
[108]
Here I am wearing his suit, invited to the Met Gala.
[113]
And they tell you it is going to be a fun
affair, youâre going to have a great time.
[115]
You get there, you eat with some people. You talk, you laugh.
[118]
You walk the red carpet, which sounds like fun.
[121]
You know red carpet sounds like fun. You walk
down a carpet, people take pictures of you. Yea!
[124]
It is a lot more stress than it seems.
[126]
Because you have to look perfect. I didnât know, you have to look perfect all the time.
[129]
And they are so strict about it, that they have
a tent at the beginning of the red carpet.
[132]
That you donât see on TV
[133]
And in that tent, they prepare everybody.
[135]
All the celebrities stand in the tent together, and
then they make sure everyoneâs dress is perfect.
[139]
Everyoneâs hair, nothing is crumpled up. Nothing.
[142]
And everyoneâs there together, which was really cool.
[143]
Because you see all the celebrities getting dressed basically.
[146]
And you know everyone. They donât
know you, but you know all of them.
[148]
So you're there. You're just looking at people, and people are very nice.
[150]
like, âHey, how are you?â
[152]
And you like, âOh hi, I am Trevor. Nice to meet you.â
[154]
Sheâs like, âOh, BeyoncĂ©.â
[155]
And youâre like, âYeaâ
[158]
âcome on, come on.â
[164]
âI know you, I know you from
my bedroom wall. I know you.â
[168]
But you canât say that, you canât. Because
you gotta look cool, you gotta look cool.
[171]
You got to look like you belong.
[173]
So now you are meeting people that you
know, but you gotta act like you donât know them.
[177]
Which makes you look like a jackass. Because
now I am there like, âTrevor, oh BeyoncĂ©?â
[181]
âBeyoncĂ©? Did I say it right? BeyoncĂ©?â
[183]
âNice to meet you BeyoncĂ©.â
[186]
âOh and this? Oh, J zed nice to meet you sir.â
[190]
âYes, Yes.â
[191]
You just look like an idiot.
[193]
So I'm standing there,
getting ready with everyone.â
[195]
And then thereâs a guy who basically tells each person to walk out, one at a time, each celebrity.
[199]
You walk out onto the red carpet, and
thereâs three stations on the red carpet.
[203]
When you walk out the first section, is American photographers.
[208]
They take pictures for all their
magazines and newspapers.
[210]
When they are done with you, you
move down to the second section.
[213]
Thatâs the European photographers.
They do the same for their magazines.
[216]
And then you move to the last section. Asian
photographers, Japan, China. That region.
[220]
They take pictures, and then you walk into the event.
[222]
So you walk through each one, they tell you to smile.
[225]
Donât smile too much, it closes your eyes.
[227]
Donât not smile, it makes you look angry.
[229]
And pose with your body and your head.
[231]
Pose with body and head, because some
people make the mistake and then turnâŠ
[236]
Donât do that, turn everything at the same time.
[239]
So Iâm ready, like I can do this.
[242]
So I am in the tent with
all the celebrities.
[244]
And they guy's calling people out, he lets them out one by one.
[246]
Because they donât want two people in the same shot.
[248]
They donât want BeyoncĂ© there and
then me in the background, like.
[250]
So the guy is like, âWeâre ready guys, weâre ready.
[252]
âRihanna, Letâs get Rhianna out. Rhianna come on.â
[254]
âHow are you? Good to see you. Come on through.â
[256]
So Rhianna walks out.
[258]
âAnne Hathaway, Anne. How are you? Come on Anne.â
[261]
âGood to see you. Go on, go on.â
[262]
And then itâs my turn. And the guy is like, âYou!â
[265]
âYea, yeah, you. Come on, letâs go.â
[268]
Iâm like, âMe? Yea okay.â
[269]
Heâs like, âyou ready?â
[271]
I'm like, âI'm ready.â Heâs like, âGo on.â
[272]
And I stepped out. And Immediately when I got out I realized I wasnât ready. I was not ready at all.
[276]
I was not ready. I've never seen
that many flashes in my entire life.â
[279]
You step out and it seems like every camera
in the world is flashing at the same time.
[282]
All of them screaming, itâs like,
[283]
*Cameraâs taking pictures*
[284]
It looks like someone threw a teaspoon
in a microwave, it's going crazy.
[287]
*Cameraâs taking pictures*
[289]
And everyone's screaming your name. Itâs like, Trevor!
Trevor, Trevor! Trevor! Tevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor!
[292]
Now you're trying to find them, you look
like a mad man with voices in your head.
[295]
âTrevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor!â
[297]
Youâre like, âYeah, speak to me Jesus.â
[301]
Youâre trying, you donât know where the thing is coming from.
[303]
They're like, âTrevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor!â
[306]
And then one guy throws me off,
in the middle of it.
[308]
Heâs like, âTrevor! Give us a pose!â
[309]
And Iâm like, âa pose?â Heâs like, âYea, a pose.â
[311]
Iâm like, âNo, I donât know how to
pose, I've never thought of posing.â
[313]
No one told me, so now I am like. I donât know
what posing is, Iâve never practiced posing.
[318]
And then the guys, âpose!â And I
am like, âI donât know whatâs a pose?â
[322]
Heâs like, âCome on, something sexy.â
[324]
Iâm like, âSexy?â I donât even know what sexy is.
Because I have never practiced.
[326]
And when I read magazines.
[328]
I go straight to the woman section, like I donât look at the men. I donât see how they're posing.
[331]
I look at J-lo and Kim Kardashian. So heâs like, âSexyâ
[334]
Iâm like, âsexy?â So I just go to what I know. I'm just like...
[347]
The guy is like, âWhat the hell? Ok, stop, stop. Thatâs good.â
[349]
âThatâs good. Okay, go on, go on. Good job, good job.â
[352]
That was stressful, so I move down to the European section.
[355]
Now I'm getting there, I'm still stressed.
[357]
The bright lights have got my eyes
going and the next guy is there.
[359]
The guy is like, âOkay Trevor, are you
ready?â Iâm like, âIâm ready, Iâm ready.â
[362]
âall right, over here! Over there!
Trevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor!â
[365]
Some guys didnât know my name though, I could hear that.
[367]
Because one guy said Trevor and another guy said Trevor.
[368]
And the other guys where just like,
*Mumbling*
[373]
But itâs sort of like a dog, a dog doesnât really know itâs name.
[375]
Like if your dogâs name is Spottie and
you go, âfoggieâ. Itâs like, âHuh?â
[378]
I did the same thing.
[379]
They were like,
*Mumbling*
[382]
I am sure there was one guy who like
hated me and he was like, âNever!â
[384]
And I was like.
I am sure there was one guy who like
hated me and he was like, âNever!â
[384]
And I was like.
[386]
I didnât care. I was in the mix, I was posing.
I was sexy, I was doing my thing. I was loving it.
[390]
And the guyâs like, âGood job, go on, go on.â
[392]
And I walked down and I went to the Asian section.
[394]
And I stood there, and all the photographers were ready.
[397]
And then they just looked at me.
[399]
It was...
[401]
I donât think you guys, like
[403]
It was the weirdest. Cause it was like, flashing,
flashing, snapping, flashing, screaming, flashing, snapping
[407]
Flashing, screaming, flashing, snapping.
[408]
Silence.
[410]
I got there
[412]
And they just looked at me.
[415]
And then they looked at each other.
[417]
And they looked back at me.
[419]
They look at me the way you look at food
that has just arrived at your table.
[424]
But no one has ordered it.
[426]
Thatâs the way that they looked at me.
[428]
Like they were waiting for the menu.
[430]
Like for the waiter to come and be
like, âSorry, we didnât order.â
[433]
âDid you order, did you order, who ordered.
No, we didnât order this.â
[436]
âWe ordered celebrities, we
donât know what that is.â
[438]
âNo, no. We donât know, we didnât order.â
[440]
Thatâs how they looking at me. Now I am
standing there, I am already posing.
[443]
Because I have been taught to do it, now I am there.
[445]
doing my, nothings getting them.
Even these ones, nothings working.
[448]
They're just looking at me and then I donât know why. like I panicked.
[451]
Cause I was embarrassed, I'm not gonna lie. I was embarrassed.
[452]
No ones taking a picture, no one told me
what to do if they donât take a picture.
[456]
So instead of just walking away.
[458]
I started making the sounds with my mouth.
[462]
Just a defense mechanism I guess.
[465]
So I panicked, and in the silence I was just like,
[468]
âTrevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor! Trevor!â
[472]
*sound of cameras flashing*
[474]
âTrevor! Trevorâ
*sound of cameras flashing*
[477]
And now they're just looking at me like,
[481]
âTrevor! Good job, and was like. Bye.â
