Channel: CineFix - IGN Movies and TV

[5]
number one welcome to homemade how to
[9]
where we show you how to make props and
[11]
costumes which is stuff from around the
[13]
house that's right we are gearing up to
[16]
do a homemade Star Wars Episode 7 the
[19]
force awakens trailer and we're going to
[21]
show you guys how to make the entire
[22]
kylo Ren costume including the
[24]
lightsaber but before we get started we
[26]
want to show you guys some fan-made
[27]
costumes that have been coming in from
[29]
all over the world
[30]
it's pretty amazing let's check them out
[32]
first up we've got Taylor Evans from
[33]
Oklahoma
[34]
he made the ant-man suit the mouthpiece
[36]
is exceptional it looks really cool yeah
[38]
all the way from the United Kingdom we
[40]
have Charlotte hair who made the
[42]
Deadpool suit I like the pink socks
[44]
that's a nice touch Wade bishops from
[45]
Tallahassee made the ant-man suit
[48]
it looks amazing she actually thought it
[50]
was our costume Mercedes lager
[53]
from the Dominican Republic with a
[54]
Deadpool suit she's like oh no I'm
[56]
Deadpool really great picture and here
[59]
we have Jessie bread and hot from Nova
[62]
Scotia Canada with his ant-man suit
[64]
I like how you use a lot of cardboard
[66]
for his yeah doll Jabez Rico from Mexico
[69]
and he made an ant-man suit his costume
[71]
came in second place at a costume
[72]
contest which is pretty awesome but
[74]
you're first place to us yes from the
[76]
Philippines we've got Mark John Lee he
[79]
made a Batman mecha helmet for his son
[81]
it's the cutest thing ever he's so
[83]
adorable so thank you guys so much for
[85]
sending in your work from all over the
[86]
world it's really really cool keep
[88]
sending us stuff sometime see it start
[90]
off we're gonna start with the helmet
[91]
for the helmet we don't actually have a
[92]
lot of materials it's pretty simple what
[94]
do we got so we've got a trash can with
[96]
a really cool lid we also have some crab
[98]
foam mm-hm and a milk jug and a serving
[101]
bowl and of course cardboard we're gonna
[104]
move to the overhead to stop the top of
[106]
the trashcan from flopping around we're
[108]
gonna use a little bit of gaff tape and
[109]
seal it shut you could use duct tape now
[111]
cut the bottom of the trashcan off and
[113]
then cut the can entirely in half next
[116]
to the top of the trashcan on your head
[118]
and measure from the bottom of the lip
[120]
of the trashcan to your jaw yep mine
[123]
comes out to six inches measure and cut
[126]
the black plastic and then temporarily
[128]
tape that to the inside lip of the
[130]
trashcan lid
[132]
because it's going to go right back on
[133]
to your head so that we can measure the
[135]
opening from Temple to Temple I'm going
[138]
to cut those pieces and then glue and
[141]
tape the plastic piece to the inside of
[143]
the lid trace the helmet on to the
[146]
cardboard this is going to help us
[147]
create the taper around look like the
[150]
kind of samurai look that the helmet has
[152]
cut it out and glue it to the bottom
[153]
edge of the helmet just so we have kind
[156]
of a frame of reference I'm going to
[158]
draw the shapes right onto the helmet
[159]
using the extra piece from the garbage
[161]
can we're going to create the angular
[163]
shape at the bottom of the helmet and
[166]
then glue the front part on we're
[167]
actually using super glue that wraps all
[172]
the way around to the back very Darth
[174]
Vader at this point but that will change
[176]
with the face piece okay take a piece of
[179]
paper wrap it around the front of the
[181]
helmet to figure out how big our piece
[183]
should be trace the inside of the helmet
[186]
and then hold that piece that we cut out
[188]
up to the helmet again and you can
[190]
sketch out those side shapes the curved
[192]
shapes temporarily we're going to tape
[195]
the paper onto the helmet find the
[198]
bridge of the nose and the edge of the
[200]
eyes and Mark those sketch out the eye
[203]
holes make sure you look at some
[205]
reference photos they're pretty narrow
[206]
and we will post these pictures on our
[208]
Facebook page you can use those for
[210]
reference of course cut that out we're
[213]
using a craft foam for the base of the
[215]
helmet trace the base template for the
[218]
face plate onto the foam and cut it out
[221]
so put that in place and glue it right
[223]
onto the helmet I'm going to come back
[227]
to the paper i template from before and
[229]
we're going to use this to sketch out
[230]
all of those silver details now it
[232]
starts off in the center there are four
[234]
silver pieces I'm sketching this out
[237]
freehand I'm just looking at reference
[238]
photos and I'll actually be posting
[240]
these on our Facebook page as well it is
[242]
a lot of details in here so I'm only
[244]
going to draw one half of this because I
[246]
can use this as the template for both
[248]
sides traits one half onto the phone
[250]
then flip it over and trace the other
[252]
half to complete all the details and we
[256]
get to cut this out all over again the
[262]
mouthpiece that goes on top of the
[264]
helmet there's two layers for the bottom
[266]
layer lay down a piece of cardboard and
[268]
we're using the silver pieces as a guide
[270]
and the nose goes up into the eye area
[274]
the sides go all the way down to the
[277]
outside ring you'll have to measure this
[279]
up to your face just to get the right
[281]
measurements and then there's a point on
[283]
the bottom corner that comes and then it
[284]
goes back up now again I'm only drawing
[286]
half of this because I fold it over
[288]
trace it and now I have the completed
[290]
shape trace the base piece of cardboard
[293]
onto the milk jug
[296]
draw the cutout segments which are on
[298]
the top and along the side there are
[300]
three little slits on the top and there
[302]
are four segments down each side next
[306]
cut those out with an exacto blade then
[310]
glue this plastic plate right on to our
[312]
cardboard so that's the bottom layer of
[314]
the mouthpiece for the top layer of the
[316]
mouthpiece we have this serving bowl
[319]
which has a pretty cool texture on it
[321]
trace the mouthpiece onto the bowl
[322]
looking at reference photos draw the
[324]
outside piece which fits inside of the
[327]
shape that we just traced there are two
[331]
rectangles cut out of the bottom segment
[333]
of the mouth plate there's a rounded
[335]
hole on the top left and then on the
[337]
bottom right of the mouth place there's
[339]
another rounded off hole again you could
[342]
cut those out with scissors and a blade
[344]
I'm going to use a dremel tool and there
[347]
are scratches on the face plates and
[350]
using a utility blade to scuff up the
[352]
plates the front plate sits up a little
[354]
bit from the the base of the cardboard
[356]
plate so we're going to use a couple of
[359]
pieces of cardboard fillers just to
[361]
create that height we're gonna just
[364]
spray some of these details away with
[366]
some black the math piece will be black
[368]
as well and then these details of course
[370]
are going to be metallic silver okay
[373]
nice and painted so let's blew that
[375]
mouthpiece to the helmet there are two
[377]
pieces on the bottom of the helmet that
[379]
sort of fit on the inside to attach the
[383]
silver details first we're going to need
[385]
to peel back a little bit of the black
[387]
foam that's on the nose piece and then
[389]
kind of wedge it in there that helps
[391]
hold it in place because we're going to
[393]
be very meticulously gluing this
[395]
starting from the center
[403]
to cover up the eyes of the helmet we're
[406]
using a black sheer fabric that I'm just
[408]
attaching that to the insides of the
[409]
helmet Wow
[414]
awesome alright so I think this is it
[417]
right I got the Star Wars shirt on the
[419]
helmet I'm pretty much done right now
[420]
we're gonna make the whole thing so
[422]
let's move onto the clothes so we have
[425]
all kinds of black clothes here we have
[427]
some black pants which are kind of
[428]
leathery looking we also have this black
[431]
Spoleto jacket for the kind of the outer
[434]
gown a dress there's sort of a ribbed
[437]
pattern on the sleeve we're using some
[439]
additional black fabric for that there's
[441]
a head scarf so we've got this black
[443]
burlap and then of course the boots now
[445]
we found these boots at a discount store
[448]
brand-new $7 the black dress has a slit
[452]
down the very center as well as two
[454]
slits so on each side of the hip and
[456]
then if there are sleeves cut those off
[457]
for the sleeves lay your black fabric
[460]
down flat and what we're doing is we're
[462]
creating pleats by simply folding a bit
[464]
of fabric over hot gluing it and moving
[467]
slowly but surely down the extent of the
[469]
fabric
[472]
hot glued the fabric to the shoulder
[475]
first and then wrap it around the arm
[477]
and hot glue it closed there may be a
[479]
bit of excess fabric at the scene just
[481]
cut that excess fabric off we have two
[483]
yards of burlap fabric that we're using
[485]
for this scarf as well as for the small
[487]
cape and we're making the Cape a
[488]
separate piece we're going to measure
[490]
that out on my back just below the
[492]
halfway point on my back cut a nice wide
[495]
strip of the fabric and close both ends
[498]
of the fabric and hot glue it shut so
[500]
what you essentially have is just a big
[502]
circle of fabric for your hood scarf
[505]
first put the fabric over your head
[507]
twist the fabric into a figure eight and
[510]
then drape the remaining fabric over
[512]
your neck he has a very wide belt and
[516]
we'll start off using a piece of
[518]
cardboard we'll cover that with some
[519]
black pleather material for the belt
[522]
buckle used some craft foam draw and cut
[525]
out the details
[530]
we have these luggage straps which come
[532]
with some pretty handy clips and so
[533]
we're going to use those and attach them
[534]
to the inside of the belt and that's
[536]
going to act as our closing mechanism
[538]
for the belt
[539]
all right let's get dressed all right
[541]
get your pants first your pants first
[544]
next layer is the cup and now the dress
[549]
my favorite part
[554]
all right so the cake
[561]
whoa whoa all right that's it I think
[569]
that's oh wait I think we're missing
[572]
something I think we're missing the
[573]
lightsaber it's gonna move everything
[575]
back in Stockholm all right let's do it
[577]
all right time for the lightsaber we
[580]
have plastic toy golf clubs turkey
[582]
basters headphones razors red jump rope
[586]
clothes pens flashlights a light wand a
[590]
water squirt tube I think I know and
[593]
some blue jump rope
[595]
start off by cutting the handle off of
[597]
the golf club the flashlight will fit
[600]
into the handle book we need to make
[601]
sure that we have access to the
[603]
batteries so first you want to cut off
[604]
the bottom of the handle these plastic
[606]
toy golf clubs come with these screw
[608]
ends so cut one of those ends off and
[610]
glue it to the battery end of the
[613]
flashlight cutting the rest of the
[614]
handle off then glue the other end of
[616]
the screw into the bottom of the handle
[618]
so now this piece screws off and we can
[620]
get access to the batteries so then we
[621]
can also screw the end of the handle on
[624]
to complete the lightsaber handle now we
[626]
can glue the flashlight into place push
[629]
on the plastic to find where the button
[631]
is and Mark where that is
[632]
so take the top part of what's left of
[634]
the handle and glue that on to the top
[636]
of the flashlight and cut the excess off
[638]
of the rest of the handle use another
[640]
screw piece of the golf club and cut it
[642]
so that fits into the top of the handle
[644]
we're going to put the handle the sides
[645]
for any depth later we have these water
[648]
tube thingies and I'm going to cut
[650]
actually both ends of this one off going
[652]
to take a second one and cut some of
[654]
that off and attach it to our first tube
[656]
and we're going to use some superglue
[658]
and some clear tape what do you call
[660]
these magic wands magic once we have
[661]
magic wands we're actually going to use
[663]
the shiny material that's on the inside
[665]
because it catches light and spreads the
[667]
light we're going to roll that up and
[668]
then stuff that into the inside of the
[670]
lightsaber tube now taking another screw
[673]
end from our golf club toys glue that
[676]
into the end of our lightsaber beam so
[678]
that we can actually attach it to our
[680]
hilt
[683]
so we're going to be using that blue
[685]
rope for some of the wire detail but we
[687]
actually found that the container that
[688]
is holding the rope will be great for
[690]
the hilt trace the handle of the
[692]
lightsaber onto the bottom of the piece
[694]
and cut out a hole at the bottom next
[696]
put the piece on the top of the hilt and
[698]
glue it and tape it together
[699]
next are the two side pieces and we're
[701]
going to be using PVC pipes of turkey
[703]
basters and some of the leftover golf
[705]
club segments cutting sections out of
[707]
the plastic golf club pole so that
[710]
they're just longer than our PVC pipe
[711]
these are going to be cut in half but
[713]
then the ends kind of scoop out a little
[715]
bit basically so that you can put these
[716]
on the PVC pipe and you get that kind of
[719]
lip that sticks out on each end trace
[720]
those pieces onto the side of the hilt
[722]
kind of at the top to create that tee
[724]
shape cut that out and then we're going
[726]
to glue that into place and that's it
[728]
for the main part of the hilt that's
[730]
right and we're gonna move on to the
[731]
details we'll need to cut the turkey
[733]
basters so I the appropriate length from
[736]
the hilt there are softer plastic turkey
[738]
basters but these are kind of tough so
[739]
I'm going to use a dremel to cut them
[743]
there is a detailed hole cut on the top
[746]
of the hilt looking at all the reference
[748]
photos fill in the details we're using
[750]
plastic close pins and some zip ties
[758]
there's a section at the bottom with
[760]
orange inserts so I'm going to create
[762]
that out of a popsicle stick and some
[765]
clear orange divider material some gaff
[768]
tape and washers the button for the
[770]
flashlight I'm going to add a cap from a
[772]
pencil eraser for the segments along the
[775]
bottom use razor handles there are some
[778]
silver details and some wire on the
[780]
inside of the hell that you can see
[781]
through this hole and so I'm going to
[783]
start off with using our gray foam piece
[784]
and some aluminum foil tape and then
[786]
some headphone wires here's the hilt
[791]
we're going to spray-paint that black
[801]
except for the end we'll paint that
[803]
silver and here's some of our little
[806]
silver details and our black pieces will
[809]
spray-paint the beams red and the end of
[812]
the tube red now that we have our hilts
[815]
and all of our pieces painted it's time
[817]
to attach them all
[818]
check your reference photos
[826]
there's a red wire that runs out of this
[829]
hole all the way down to the bottom of
[830]
the hilts and so we're using a red tube
[832]
jump rope to light up the side beams
[834]
we're using these LED lights trimming
[836]
the plastic so that they fit right
[838]
inside those PVC pieces that we have on
[840]
the side of the hilt and then once we
[842]
put our side beams on they light up that
[844]
is the light saber and we have
[851]
detachable beams which is pretty rad and
[853]
they all light up
[860]
now that's kylo Ren yeah I feel awesome
[863]
this is like it's really scary the
[867]
helmet was surprisingly simple not a lot
[869]
of pieces to it exactly and then the
[871]
lightsaber I feel like that really
[872]
brings it together
[873]
definitely the force is strong with this
[875]
one and that's how you make a kylo Ren
[878]
suit and light saber that's right so
[879]
come back in two weeks because our
[881]
homemade Star Wars Episode 7 trailer
[882]
drops only on Sena fix you want to
[884]
subscribe this is actually our last
[886]
homemade how-to of the season it was
[888]
true it's been such an amazing year that
[890]
experience has been great you guys have
[892]
been overwhelmingly positive about the
[893]
show it's been a great great experience
[895]
