Why Is LTV So Important - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[0]
So today I'm gonna talk about
[1]
AOV, LTV, and upsells, okay?
[4]
So you have your front end product.
[5]
So your first product.
[7]
And then say the upsell is $100,
[10]
what you would normally do is count this in
[13]
and then say the other one was 50.
[17]
The easy way to do it is if you know your take rate,
[19]
150 for example,
[21]
you can work it out.
[22]
Say my take rate for upsell one was 20%,
[25]
I would know I'm adding $20 per order, right?
[29]
Easy.
[31]
If you don't know your take rate,
[34]
what you guys can do is you can just go to your store,
[36]
add up the last 10 sales you made,
[39]
divide it by 10.
[40]
That's your AOV.
[41]
Very simple.
[42]
You see?
[44]
And yes, I was saying the take rate,
[46]
take rate just means if 10 people go through this,
[49]
how many bought the upsell?
[50]
If 2 in 10 took it?
[51]
It's a 20% take rate.
[54]
Why is AOV so important?
[56]
So say we have Facebook ads, okay?
[59]
And then we have our product here,
[60]
a $50 product, right?
[63]
We could probably run a Facebook ad
[65]
and pay 25 to $50,
[70]
if it was a good product, a good hook.
[72]
A good copy, good ads, everything, right?
[74]
We probably could run this to here.
[78]
which would mean what?
[79]
Years ago we would be profitable on day one, right?
[83]
Say it was 25.
[85]
My first business, you know, 5, 4, 5, 6 years ago,
[89]
I would do this.
[90]
I would run this here and I would make money every day.
[94]
Some days I made 5, $10,000 pure profit,
[97]
from my front end, okay?
[99]
I haven't got worse at
[100]
what I do I've hopefully got better in the last five years,
[103]
but I can't do that anywhere near as easily
[106]
because costs have gone up.
[108]
In fact, when we try and rerun this,
[109]
our costs have doubled or tripled,
[112]
just based on what we pay Facebook to show that ad.
[116]
And then also you've got way more competition now, right?
[119]
So what it means is it's much harder
[121]
to break even on the front end.
[123]
What you might do now is you might run those ads
[128]
and instead of paying $50, you might pay $100.
[132]
So who here wants to spend $100 to make a $50 sale?
[137]
None of you like that idea?
[138]
No, okay.
[139]
Now, because we have upsells,
[142]
when we get AOV average order value, up to $100.
[149]
Now answer that same question, okay?
[152]
Answer that same question.
[153]
So now, I'm Facebook,
[155]
you walk up to me and you give me $100,
[159]
And I give you $100 back.
[163]
Who would do that?
[164]
Interesting.
[164]
So now it's like a 50 50 divide.
[166]
Now just remember real life setting, okay?
[170]
Here you're gonna lose 3% on a payment processor fee,
[174]
and maybe 5% will refund.
[176]
And then if you're an e-commerce product,
[178]
you might have 40% cost and shipping too,
[182]
if you're info product, you're fine.
[184]
So if you're e-commerce,
[185]
you're like still at minus $50, right?
[189]
If you're info you're like almost breakeven basically,
[192]
minus 8%.
[193]
So my question if most of you don't wanna do this,
[196]
and this is with your AOV pretty good, right?
[198]
It's doubling your front end.
[201]
How are any of you ever gonna get Facebook ads to work?
[204]
The $50 front end, you go with upsells,
[206]
you get your AOV to a hundred.
[209]
So you said no to the first scenario, all of you.
[213]
But ironically I would actually say yes,
[215]
and I would take that all day.
[217]
I would actually love that,
[219]
I would make lots of money.
[221]
And all my businesses do that.
[223]
Pretty much all of you said no here,
[225]
when I would say yes.
[226]
So that's one thing to think about.
[227]
Most, half and half, 50% of you here, said yes, right?
[233]
So what about scenario three
[236]
So this is the AOV.
[237]
And then for LTV in thirty days,
[242]
you made $200.
[244]
So now I'm Facebook, now still remember every day,
[247]
every hour, 20 times a day,
[250]
you're gonna walk over to me.
[251]
I'm Facebook.
[252]
You give me $100
[254]
and I give you $100 back.
[258]
I give you $100 back and then 30 days,
[264]
30 days later, you get another $100
[267]
for every single transaction of those 20 transactions a day.
[272]
Who would do that?
[272]
Yes or no?
[274]
All of you.
[275]
Who can work out in 30 days,
[277]
how much profit you would make?
[279]
If you imagine you break even here,
[281]
how much would you make if you did a whole month
[284]
and then another 30 days,
[286]
how much would you make?
[288]
So remember 20 sales a day
[291]
and you make $100 extra per one.
[296]
At $2,000 a day you would make after 30 days,
[302]
$2,000 a day, 60 K, right?
[305]
60 K, $2,000, 20 sales a day,
[310]
$100 per sale profit after 30 days, 60 K.
[315]
You break even here,
[317]
And this is all very realistic for most brands.
[322]
If you're in e-commerce,
[323]
it's gonna take a little longer to get to that point.
[325]
Some brands, software will take longer,
[328]
This might be like a 6 month or 12 months, okay?
[332]
So $50 say on the front end.
[335]
With AOV in it
[336]
How much do you think I would pay per sale.
[340]
You don't know what the LTV is yet
[343]
Just real life. Guess how much we
[345]
would pay per sale for a $50 sale.
[349]
How much would you pay for a $50 sale?
[353]
Now I've given you this figure.
[355]
You guys see how your answers change, right?
[357]
Now you know this,
[360]
most of you are closer now.
[361]
Most of you are saying around 200, I'll go with that.
[365]
Okay. Which is about fair.
[366]
So if I would pay $200, how much profit am I making?
[371]
So I make 50 on day one.
[375]
So that's my AOV, my CPA's 200
[380]
so it's a $150 cost.
[383]
But, I come down here and now I make 150 profit.
[387]
So you guys see, before I asked the question,
[390]
most of you gave lower amounts than 200.
[394]
Now that my LTV is here, this is great.
[397]
So say this company that does all of this is in the same
[402]
space as you and has all of this figured out, okay,
[407]
it's going to be hard for you to compete with that company,
[410]
right?
[411]
Because maybe you don't have all of this figured out
[413]
you just have this part,
[415]
all of this here is not figured out,
[418]
so you're trying to make Facebook ads work with a $50 AOV.
[423]
They're trying to make Facebook ads work at anything under
[425]
a $300 LTV. You see the difference?
[430]
Like you guys know there's generally not secrets,
[433]
but if there was one fundamental strategy or principle to
[436]
make your ads work it would be to take a
[439]
$50 product or whatever the product and make
[443]
4, 5, 6, 7 times more as quickly as you can on the backend.
[448]
Because then even if you had mediocre ads and you paid
[453]
$200 for a sale,
[455]
you're making $150 profit,
[459]
right?
[460]
You guys see how that's really important.
[463]
And I didn't know this or value this for like five years
[466]
of my career. So I lost, I did the math one day,
[469]
in two years of my fitness business.
[472]
If I had done what I know now it was $6 million and pretty
[475]
much pure profit, a few staff members maybe to fulfill it,
[480]
but I had already done the ad spend, right?
[482]
So it was literally probably like 5 million
[484]
of pure profit just from not knowing this.
[487]
How do we boost AOV? How do we boost LTV?
[490]
So let's look here. How do we boost AOV?
[493]
Everyone?
[494]
So we can add order bumps.
[498]
So remember, AOV, a good way to look at it,
[500]
in my opinion,
[501]
is like 60 minutes
[504]
or even less like 20 minutes, okay?
[506]
So like stuff like email and everything after
[509]
would more go into LTV.
[512]
Okay, good.
[513]
Buy more and save, so bundles.
[515]
I'll add one for e-commerce that no one's got,
[518]
which is free shipping tiers.
[520]
If you're in e-commerce,
[521]
put a free shipping tier at $100, boost AOV.
[525]
So another one I'll add is like premium.
[527]
So, sometimes like softwares or events
[530]
and even e-commerce,
[532]
you have like the premium package, right,
[534]
where they get more stuff
[535]
when, you know, you see the little tiers at checkout,
[538]
they can get premium.
[541]
We got order bumps, upsells, downsells, bundles.
[544]
What else? Buy more and save.
[547]
So subscription plans, that's good, but that's LTV.
[551]
'Cause you're not gonna make money on day one.
[553]
It's not gonna add to your day one-
[555]
it might add a little, right, if it's an order bump.
[557]
but long-term subscriptions: LTV.
[561]
Yeah, so I would say complementary.
[564]
So if you're like e-commerce,
[566]
showing complementary products, right?
[568]
You know, Amazon does a good job of this.
[570]
You add something on Amazon and then it says
[572]
"customers also purchased"... batteries and stuff.
[575]
And a lot of the time you guys will use that, right?
[577]
You'll buy all three instead of the one.
[580]
Okay, good. So you guys got the gist here.
[583]
So the big thing that everyone missed
[585]
is price split test.
[589]
You might be able to just change your price
[591]
and boost your AOV on the front end product
[593]
and everything else you guys discussed.
[595]
Next question: how do we boost LTV?
[598]
So who does a good job at selling more products?
[603]
There's someone in our space that's good,
[604]
and there's someone that's a very big company, right?
[608]
I would say a good company
[609]
that's selling more products is Amazon.
[611]
Good selection of products there, right?
[613]
You go back and buy lots of things.
[615]
They did a good job there.
[617]
In our space, one of my business partners, Tai Lopez's good.
[620]
we, you know, for a long time
[622]
we released a course a month, okay.
[625]
I would say Grant Cardone also pretty good at it.
[628]
Like Grant is like,
[630]
he makes products out of everything, right?
[632]
Even when you go to his event,
[634]
there's a million upsells at the event.
[636]
You can go on,
[636]
he has a yacht, a cruise thing, VIP, lots of tiers.
[640]
Every speaker on stage is basically selling.
[644]
So he does a lot too, right, for more products.
[646]
And then obviously online, he has a bunch of stuff.
[649]
Good, sell more often.
[650]
So more emails, Facebook group.
[653]
So subscription, more products, sell more often,
[656]
emails, Facebook group, Prime.
[659]
So I'll put Prime/subscription.
[661]
So that's putting people on a monthly, right?
[663]
Membership. Yeah, I'll put slash membership here.
[667]
Good. What else have we got?
[669]
Yeah, you can re-offer the order bumps and upsells.
[672]
Another a big one, I think, a lot of you,
[675]
it's not been mentioned or maybe I missed it.
[677]
Holiday promotions.
[679]
Big way to jack up your LTV is like
[682]
every holiday build in a big promo out of it.
[685]
Whether you like it or not, America and the world
[688]
is accustomed to buying more on holidays.
[690]
They expect almost big promos.
[693]
People even wait to buy.
[695]
Some of you have probably bought from me
[697]
on the holidays.
[698]
We do good, cool promos, good offers, discounts.
[702]
So affiliates.
[705]
So you said partnering with other similar businesses.
[708]
That's called affiliates, right?
[709]
You can add a lot of money now selling to your customers,
[713]
you sell them affiliate's synergistic product.
[717]
Higher ticket, of course. Good, high ticket.
[721]
Recommend a friend: referrals.
[723]
I'll bucket that as referrals.
[726]
Most businesses can add 20%, 30% to their business
[729]
just through referrals, but no one does it.
[731]
Got it. I think a couple of you kinda mentioned it,
[734]
but phone sales, right?
[735]
Higher ticket, phone sales, right.
[738]
Live events. Good.
