fluent in espanol to travel to puerto rico but i聽聽

morning buenas tardes just to be cautious with the聽聽

locals us locals know a lot of english too where聽
it's being taught in the school system it helps聽聽

you a lot even to know your basics if you ever聽
get lost or in a tight spot and i've noticed even聽聽

speaking english sometimes i'll respond to you in聽
spanish but they will try their hardest to help聽聽

you out so i wouldn't be too worried about being聽
fluent but just a couple of words could go far聽聽

this is in reference to a trip just to san juan聽聽

and a lot of people that take a cruise ship and聽
they just stay in that little area and that would聽聽

be a mistake right if you have a little bit of聽
more time you can get an uber you can go to santos聽聽

which is one of the places where you have a聽
really big culinary differences that you can go聽聽

and it's going to be cheaper from san聽
juan you can also jump to ocean park beach聽聽

which is outside of santorse and you can try and聽
go around the city not only staying in san juan聽聽

but seeing the different spots in the areas and聽

not renting a car and if you are planning on聽
leaving san juan you basically have to have a car聽聽

yes you can do uber around the city so renting a聽
car is going to get you the best and most amazing聽聽

experience because public transportation here it's聽
not that very good and even the taxis and ubers聽聽

the few ubers you can get out of the city it's聽
gonna be very very expensive at the end of the day聽聽

if you don't rent a car and you just want to get a聽
taxi to like the north or west side of the island聽聽

cost you hundreds of dollars for a car i don't聽
know 50 to 100 for a day yeah exactly if you're聽聽

gonna rent a car be sure to pre-pay in advance聽
because here in the island you know we're a little聽聽

bit smarter so the companies have a little bit聽
less cars than in the mainland pre-pay in advance聽聽

it's going to get you higher on the priority list聽
in case they overbooked and try to use the reg聽聽

sites of the rental companies if you use聽
third-party websites they might even charge you聽聽

some taxes that the locals won't driving mistakes聽

one i'm gonna start with my own experience when聽
i rented a car for the first time in puerto rico聽聽

just driving on the highways some people drive聽
really fast some people drive really slow you聽聽

have to be ready for anything right yes exactly uh聽
once you get on the plane you have to leave that聽聽

mainline driving mindset in the gates because when聽
you have here you gotta be part of this organized聽聽

chaos people switch lanes without using turn聽
signals just drive like a puerto rican like reset聽聽

now going to a gas station here compared to the聽
mainland us is a different story because they use聽聽

leaders and you don't pay at the pump yeah exactly聽
so if you see the price and you're gonna see聽聽

it's gonna be like right now it's almost a dollar聽
don't be excited it's not gallons it's theater so聽聽

yeah once you basically equalize that it's聽
almost as expensive as the mainland right now聽聽

and you have to pay most of the times inside of聽
the gas station we want to fill up number two聽聽

regular i would say 99.9 of our pumps do not have聽
in-station credit card system some roads might be聽聽

closed up some roads might be turned into one聽
lane so keep an eye on that if you're gonna聽聽

enter merge something be on the lookout like i聽
mentioned earlier google maps apple maps and waze聽聽

work super fine here on the island so those are聽
gonna be your trusty allies and worst case if聽聽

you get lost the locals are so friendly just聽
ask them yeah i mean puerto rico is 100 miles聽聽

by 35 so you're not gonna get that far can't get聽
that lost exactly road signs are all in spanish聽聽

but the symbols look exactly the same as they are聽
on the mainland so just something to be aware of聽聽

i feel like too many tourists just stay in the聽
san juan el yunque rainforest bubble here we聽聽

are in aguadilla just a prime example of getting聽
outside of that area and exploring this beautiful聽聽

island honestly for me san juan has a lot of聽
cultural and historic significance but the聽聽

outside of the island is actually where聽
the most natural beauty and the best food聽聽

is plus it's way cheaper than being in the city聽
which we know it's gonna be really really more聽聽

expensive since it's very touristy and if you聽

is a very important thing because you might run聽
into this you might run into loud music there's聽聽

so many things you could run into trying to sleep聽
right yes exactly you have loud cars loud music聽聽

us puerto ricans have many other latinos we聽
like to party almost every day of the week plus聽聽

you have uh animals in the really early morning聽
like brewster's birds and in the night you have聽聽

the coqui very loud crickets and if you're near a聽
touristy area like san juan weather or something聽聽

like that you might have the airport near too聽

amazing just take photos of not budgeting聽
for your trip there's a misconception that聽聽

puerto rico is a cheap destination it's not always聽
entirely true yes you could do cheap travels聽聽

if you go outside of san juan and stay a little聽
bit of it in different areas it's going to be聽聽

cheap but if you stay in the city if you go out聽
drinking every night you go to fancy restaurants聽聽

it's gonna get expensive really fast also i would聽
say shopping for regular goods even at walgreens聽聽

but for clothing 11 sales tax so it's actually聽
cheaper to shop at the mainland than it is to shop聽聽

in puerto rico no surprise the weather is hot and聽
humid here year round and you've had some clients聽聽

who underestimated the heat and the sun right here聽
here is no joke so if you're gonna come here you聽聽

have you gotta have fresh clothes but still you聽
have to protect your skin because the sun here聽聽

it doesn't joke even nasa's locals we're not聽
standing in the sun out we know sometimes we聽聽

even layer up because sun really hits you up聽
here yeah definitely about bring your spf you聽聽

do not want to get a bad sunburn on your trip it's聽
going to ruin it thinking that puerto rico is not聽聽

a safe destination to travel to don't go alone聽
at night in some shady areas or really really聽聽

dark places of town just like you would in any聽
other city and you're gonna be fine locals here聽聽

love to help out and i welcome you with open arms聽
sometimes you might encounter if you're going to聽聽

a little bit of a desolated beach or something聽
like that that there are some locals there that聽聽

are asking maybe for a few dollars to watch over聽
your car i always say it's better to give them聽聽

the few dollars i've had some instances of friends聽
and even tourists that they brush them off or even聽聽

talk to them in a little bit of a derogatory way聽
and they get their things stolen or broken into so聽聽

why get yourself a headache for over like two or聽
three dollars just give it to him you're helping聽聽

the locals out this may be the biggest mistake you聽
can make coming here not adjusting to island time聽聽

especially for my new yorkers watching expecting聽
everything to be as efficient as fast as it is聽聽

from back home that's puerto ricans we're always聽
a little bit late you know we we chillax with聽聽

that a little bit more we've had some instances聽
that the restaurants and bars say they're gonna聽聽

open at three they literally get their three so聽
until they open the prep or whatever it gets even聽聽

later than that or it's gonna say it's open and聽
it's not yeah try not to worry too much about it聽聽

or blast everyone on social media you know us聽
puerto ricans we function at that way it might聽聽

not be the most efficient way but hey you're in聽
puerto rico you gotta chillax man and you know聽聽

don't get upset if your food takes a little bit聽
longer than you expect i say just embrace it you聽聽

didn't come to puerto rico for everything to be聽
exactly the same as your back home you came here聽聽
