Top 10 Financial Concepts You Must Know | CA Rachana Ranade - YouTube

Channel: CA Rachana Phadke Ranade

[54]
Hey folks, CA Rachana Ranade here, and I welcome聽 you all to a very important video, which is about聽聽
[60]
top 10 financial concepts, that you must know. So,聽 whenever we start our financial planning journey,聽聽
[66]
I think the very first thing that you must聽 know is, how much money do you have right now,聽聽
[71]
versus what is your target? If you have these two聽 defined points, then will you be able to bridge聽聽
[77]
the gap between these two, okay? So, I鈥檒l give聽 you a simple example of how much money I have.聽聽
[82]
It could be either money or something which is聽 money's worth, okay. So, assume I have a Ferrari,聽聽
[88]
uh a helicopter, uh an airplane, uh a ship.聽 Rachana please, please, please, control Rachana.聽聽
[94]
Okay, anyways... okay so and these are worth just聽 what 10,000 crores, okay and assume that for that聽聽
[102]
I have taken a thousand crore loan, okay. Then聽 how much money or money's worth do I have? It'll聽聽
[108]
be 10,000 crores minus 1000 crores. Is there any聽 technical term for that? Exactly, that is nothing聽聽
[115]
but net worth in financial concepts. So how do I聽 calculate net worth of any person? Net worth is聽聽
[122]
calculated as assets, minus liabilities, okay.聽 So just to give you one more amazing example,聽聽
[128]
Mr. Mukesh Ambani鈥檚 net worth, I was reading聽 last month is just 96.4 billion dollars. Uh,聽聽
[135]
that's how it looks like. Now just multiply聽 this with the exchange rate, uh, and just count聽聽
[140]
how much zeroes they are. It's actually seven聽 lakh twenty-three thousand crore rupees only.
[146]
Let me remind you all one more time, that all聽 these creative people are spammers. That's how聽聽
[153]
my account looks like. Also, remember I聽 never give my mobile number in any chat.聽聽
[158]
I neither have an advisory聽 nor do I give any stock tips.
[165]
Now here we have Mr. Chandu, who is completely聽 charged up. He has calculated his net worth,聽聽
[169]
and he has also calculated his target net worth,聽 but oh my god! just have a look at his face!聽聽
[174]
He's worried, he knows that there are a lot of聽 uncertainties that surround him. How can he have聽聽
[179]
a good shield against those uncertainties?聽 Number one, he should buy a life insurance,聽聽
[183]
and number two, a health insurance. In聽 simple words, life insurance will protect聽聽
[189]
his family members if something happens to him,聽 something happens to him. I had to introduce a聽聽
[194]
certain person in our example because otherwise,聽 I would have to say that if some... okay, anyways.聽聽
[200]
So I hope you've understood the importance of life聽 insurance. Basically, if the main bread earner of聽聽
[205]
the family passes away, unfortunately, then the聽 nominee, heir will get money, so that the family聽聽
[211]
members can survive. Okay, that's a simple example聽 of a life insurance you can have. A life insurance聽聽
[216]
though maybe a term insurance or an endowment聽 policy or a whole life policy. Many many types聽聽
[221]
are there, but my personal favorite is a term聽 insurance because it's a pure insurance product. I聽聽
[227]
hate mixing up insurance with investments. Right,聽 so I hope life insurance is clear. Second one is聽聽
[233]
a health insurance. Now, what if Mr. Chandu who is聽 back again, come back into the picture. Chandu now聽聽
[238]
is absolutely again pumped up, because he has聽 the shield with him. Uh, he does not I mean he聽聽
[244]
doesn't die, but he falls sick, okay. Then who聽 will cover up for his medical expenses? Okay,聽聽
[250]
it can be the hospitalization expense, it could聽 be about the tests which he has to get himself, or聽聽
[256]
third could be the post-hospitalization expenses.聽 For that is there is a separate insurance policy.聽聽
[261]
Exactly that is nothing but the health insurance聽 policy. It also comes with multiple riders,聽聽
[266]
which can help you to get yourself covered聽 with many many types of related expenses,聽聽
[270]
right. Now with this, I鈥檓 sure there is one聽 last question in your mind, that are these very聽聽
[275]
expensive or not? I鈥檒l give you a simple example聽 and a simple and amazing website through which you聽聽
[280]
can get yourself insured. The name of the website聽 is policybazaar.com. On that website, you'll聽聽
[285]
get to you know select from a lot of insurance聽 policies which are available, but just to give you聽聽
[290]
an example, you can cover yourself up to one crore聽 rupees with just 400 rupees 411 rupees per month,聽聽
[297]
and you can also get a tax benefit up to 46800聽 rupees if you're into the 30 percent tax lab. The聽聽
[303]
policies also cover covid 19 protection and also聽 you will get a protection up to 99 years of age.聽聽
[310]
Well, this was about term insurance, but then what聽 about health insurance? Even on again on the same聽聽
[314]
website policybazaar.com, you can get up to, I聽 mean, whatever cover you want, but if I鈥檓 giving聽聽
[319]
an example of 5 lakh rupees health insurance,聽 you can get that with just 200 rupees per month,聽聽
[325]
premium amount, and tax benefit will be up to聽 75000. Of course, provided you are into the聽聽
[330]
30 percent tax lab. Policy bazaar people claim聽 that their specialists will come to your home聽聽
[335]
or to the hospital within 30 minutes to support聽 your health insurance claim. Uh just in case if聽聽
[341]
you don't know about this, policy bazaar earlier聽 was just an insurance aggregator. Now they're an聽聽
[347]
insurance broker. If you don't know about these聽 two terms, and you can surely check out this聽聽
[352]
video which is about policy bazaar IPO. I鈥檝e also聽 covered in detail what is term insurance. What all聽聽
[358]
things you should know about term insurance聽 in this video and if you want to know more聽聽
[361]
about health insurance this is the video in which聽 I鈥檝e covered everything about health insurance.
[369]
Have a look at Chandu's face, huh so happy he is.聽 Why? He has protected his life, he has protected聽聽
[375]
his health also, but what if Chandu loses his聽 job? What if certain unplanned expenses all聽聽
[382]
of a sudden pop up? Then what? Isn't he a bit聽 worried now? Don't worry Chandu, for that I鈥檒l聽聽
[388]
tell you what is the solution. For that a person聽 like Chandu, or anyone ideally should have an聽聽
[393]
emergency fund. What's an emergency fund? It's聽 a pool of fund which you keep aside to meet for聽聽
[398]
unplanned expenses and unplanned things that聽 can happen in your life. Example loss of job,聽聽
[403]
how much money should you have in that emergency聽 fund? That should be nothing but six months of聽聽
[408]
your expenses just as a quick example, assume聽 that I spend fifty thousand rupees per month. I聽聽
[414]
should have an emergency fund of fifty thousand,聽 multiplied by six, that is three lakh rupees in聽聽
[419]
the emergency fund, but uh where should I park聽 that money? Should I keep it in cash, or in a聽聽
[425]
saving bank account or what, is exactly what we're聽 going to talk about in the next part of the video?
[432]
Well now we know very much about what is an聽 emergency fund, but the question is that,聽聽
[436]
this emergency fund money required where should聽 I park it? Can I park it in cash? Yes. Can I park聽聽
[442]
it in saving account? Yes. Can I park it in fixed聽 deposit? Yes. Can you park it in a liquid mutual聽聽
[448]
fund? Yes. Now all these four assets that I talked聽 about right now, have a certain characteristic,聽聽
[455]
which is inbuilt around all of them. Which聽 is that characteristic? That is nothing but聽聽
[459]
liquidity. It has got nothing to do with solid,聽 liquid, gaseous, or something like that, okay.聽聽
[463]
Liquidity in simple words means, that any asset聽 which can be easily converted into cash, simple.聽聽
[470]
Now I鈥檓 sure everyone knows what is cash?聽 what is saving account? Fixed deposit also,聽聽
[473]
you can easily convert into cash. You'll have to聽 bear a penal interest, but you will get the money聽聽
[478]
quickly, but what's a liquid mutual fund? That is聽 one small point I would like to tell you. Liquid聽聽
[483]
funds are class of debt funds, that predominantly聽 invest in high-quality fixed instruments,聽聽
[489]
that mature within 91 days, but where does your聽 money get parked in a liquid mutual fund? That聽聽
[495]
gets parked into instruments like certificates聽 of deposits, treasury bills, commercial papers,聽聽
[499]
but if you want to know more about liquid mutual聽 funds, that's the video that you can refer in to,聽聽
[504]
and I hope you have understood what聽 is a classic example of liquidity.
[510]
Well, the next financial concept is also very聽 important, because that can really pull you away聽聽
[515]
from your target networks, and what is that聽 concept, that is inflation in simple words.
[523]
Okay, so I鈥檒l give you a very simple example on聽 what is inflation. Assume, that this fruit basket聽聽
[527]
was costing you 100 rupees a year ago, and today聽 the same fruit basket is going to cost you 120聽聽
[533]
rupees. What is the inflation? It's nothing but聽 20 percent, as simple as that, okay. If I if I聽聽
[540]
talk about the real data in India, then have a聽 look at this chart. Uh earlier way back in 90s the聽聽
[546]
inflation used to be around 13.48 percent, then it聽 started cooling down and down and lowest point you聽聽
[551]
can see in the recent past is somewhere around聽 2016 to 18. You can see it was as low as 3.6.聽聽
[559]
Right now, in 2020, 2021 somewhere around聽 our inflation uh as per the latest data is聽聽
[564]
around 5.56 percent, okay. Now, uh,聽 why is this figure important for me?聽聽
[571]
This figure is important because I have to聽 compare my investments with inflation. If聽聽
[577]
my investment is giving me four percent return,聽 and if inflation is at 5.5 percent, am I going聽聽
[583]
to get a real return, or no? Answer is no. So,聽 I must ensure that the return on investments is聽聽
[590]
higher than the inflation rate. I hope you have聽 understood the simple concept of inflation.
[598]
Now that you have understood what is inflation,聽 now you are really interested to know聽聽
[602]
that how can I find out an asset聽 class, which beats inflation.聽聽
[606]
For that, you have to know a very important term,聽 which is returns for a layman. For CARR viewers,聽聽
[613]
it is CAGR. Okay what is CAGR? Compounded annual聽 growth rate, and first let's understand the simple聽聽
[620]
definition of CAGR. It is the rate at which an聽 investment grows from the beginning to the end,聽聽
[626]
assuming that the profits were reinvested at the聽 end of each period of the investment life span,聽聽
[633]
okay, very simple, right. Now have a look at聽 this formula. If we divided by PV raised to the聽聽
[639]
power 1 by n minus 1. So our definition was easy,聽 formula was simpler, right? No? Okay, have a look聽聽
[648]
at this example on CAGR, and I鈥檓 sure by the end聽 of this example, you'll be like, yes. Okay, so you聽聽
[654]
can see period one, two, zero, one, two, three,聽 four, five. What is period zero? It means today,聽聽
[658]
okay. Zero generally is today. One at the end聽 of first year, two at the end of second year,聽聽
[664]
okay. Zero, one, two, three, four, five years聽 are given, and we are also talking about revenue,聽聽
[668]
or let us say investment amount. Whatever can be聽 replaced with that. So, in simple words what has聽聽
[673]
happened? Today, that is year zero, period zero.聽 I invested ten thousand rupees. At the end of year聽聽
[679]
one this ten thousand became twelve thousand,聽 okay. At the end of second year, it became聽聽
[684]
thirteen thousand five hundred, and so on and聽 so forth. Now if you check out the growth rate,聽聽
[688]
uh, column you will see that at the end of first聽 year, the rate of return was 20. Second-year聽聽
[696]
12.5 percent, third-year minus seven-point four聽 percent. So it'll be like instead of giving all聽聽
[701]
these different different numbers, can't you give聽 us a single number, which is a representative聽聽
[706]
number, and you say that over a period of last聽 five years this investment grew on an average at聽聽
[713]
this this rate, correct? So, this representative聽 figure which talks about on an average,聽聽
[719]
this investment grew at x y z rate, is nothing聽 but CAGR. So, from the beginning of the period聽聽
[726]
to the end of the period, we are talking about,聽 okay. That's how we are going to calculate CAGR,聽聽
[731]
but then comes a big problem. Are we going聽 to put all these figures in the formula?聽聽
[735]
Not required. Just visit my website聽 rachanaranade.com. Then you can go to the聽聽
[740]
calculator section. Once you enter that section,聽 you will have to click on that CAGR calculator,聽聽
[745]
and that鈥檚 what you have to put up. You have to聽 pull up the initial amount. In our example, it was聽聽
[749]
ten thousand. You have to put the amount at the聽 end of five years. That was sixteen thousand five聽聽
[752]
hundred. Then you have to put out how much number聽 of years. In our example, it was five years,聽聽
[758]
and what is the answer? Exactly, that's the聽 answer. Is this number beating our inflation聽聽
[762]
figure? Yes. If that be so, I personally believe聽 that, okay this can be an investment avenue, which聽聽
[768]
is giving me a real return, okay. So CAGR can be聽 used for two purposes, possibility number one,聽聽
[774]
comparing the returns of an investment with聽 inflation, or comparing the investment returns uh,聽聽
[782]
comparing the returns of one investment聽 avenue, with another investment avenue.
[789]
Now that you know about the concept of CAGR very聽 nicely, can you tell me a specific asset class聽聽
[794]
which has given an amazing CAGR, a good return聽 over the past few years, has to be the stock聽聽
[801]
market, right, but the moment I use the word stock聽 market there are two terms which you can quickly聽聽
[805]
recall. One is the bull, and one is the bear. So,聽 bull basically signifies a rising market, where聽聽
[813]
prices are continuously rising. It's as good as,聽 you buy today, uh, today morning, you sell in the聽聽
[818]
afternoon. Generally, you'll make profit. You buy聽 today, you sell tomorrow. You'll generally make a聽聽
[822]
profit. You buy today you sell after one week, one聽 month, whatever, you will generally make a profit,聽聽
[827]
okay. That's a classic example of a bull market,聽 where prices are continuously rising, and most聽聽
[832]
happy are retail individual investors. That's聽 the frenzy in the stock market. Everyone wants聽聽
[836]
to participate in this rally. The second one is聽 the bear market, where it's a danger signal. Where聽聽
[843]
prices are continuously dropping and dropping and聽 dropping. Just to give you a proper definition聽聽
[849]
of a bear market, is that if the market falls by聽 more than 20 percent from the highest point, okay,聽聽
[856]
then it will be called as a bear market. A simple聽 mathematical example can be let's say, highest聽聽
[861]
point of the market is 100, and the stock market聽 goes below 80. So, it has corrected by more than聽聽
[867]
20, then it is an example of a bear market, okay.聽 So, have there been bull runs in the past? Yes.聽聽
[873]
Have a look at this chart. Five bull runs till聽 now. The craziest bull run which you can see,聽聽
[879]
like a sharp straight line as good as a straight聽 line, 91, 92, and I鈥檓 sure everyone knows,聽聽
[883]
credit goes to Mr. Harshad Mehta, right.聽 So, that was the craziest bull run聽聽
[888]
one of the longest bull runs was 2003 to 2008.聽 Right now are we in a bull run? Answer is yes.聽聽
[896]
Since corona the prices which dipped to a crazy聽 low levels. I guess somewhere around 22nd or 23rd聽聽
[902]
March. Since then nifty has been on a continuous聽 ride, and all the research analysts believe聽聽
[909]
to some extent, little bit even I believe that聽 right now India is in in between of a crazy bull聽聽
[915]
run ahead. I believe that 2020 to 2030 should聽 be like a golden bull run for the Indian stock聽聽
[921]
markets, right. This was an example of a bull聽 market. What about an example of a bear market?聽聽
[928]
Immediate rise of Harshad Mehta 91,92. Crazy聽 fall in the immediate next year. Markets fell聽聽
[934]
by more than 50 percent within a year. Okay聽 second crazy bear market was in 2008, when聽聽
[940]
nifty dropped around 6130 points to 2750 points.聽 So that's like a crazy fall of almost 55 percent聽聽
[952]
in a single year, okay. So, I hope the moment I聽 talk about a bull or a bear, now it's very much聽聽
[959]
clear into your mind, what are these concepts, and聽 what are the examples related to these concepts.
[966]
And I鈥檓 sure, now many of you are fully charged聽 up, that yes, Rachana is saying that we are in聽聽
[971]
the midst of a mega bull run, plus I did a video聽 just two three days ago, where in I said that聽聽
[977]
can nifty cross 20000, and I鈥檝e tried to prove聽 you mathematically through technical analysis聽聽
[982]
everything that yes there's a great chance聽 that nifty might cross even 20 000. So you聽聽
[987]
are like fully charged up, that yes I鈥檓 going聽 to invest in stock market right away, but wait,聽聽
[992]
there is one concept that you must know again, and聽 that is the concept of risk tolerance. Now what is聽聽
[996]
the meaning of that? Risk tolerance refers to the聽 amount of risk an investor can tolerate to achieve聽聽
[1003]
an investment goal, okay. I should be absolutely聽 okay even if my investment goes down. I should be聽聽
[1009]
able to sleep peacefully. If I鈥檓 able to do that聽 I鈥檓 investing in something, wherein I have a risk聽聽
[1014]
tolerance towards that. So, I can say there could聽 be two major types of investors. One could be, one聽聽
[1019]
could be like an aggressive investor, one could聽 be like a risk-averse or a conservative investor.聽聽
[1025]
If you're a risk-averse or a conservative聽 investor, stock market is not for you,聽聽
[1029]
but if you're like a moderate risk taker or聽 an aggressive risk-taker, then surely you can聽聽
[1035]
consider parking some funds into stock market,聽 but then the big question is that how will you聽聽
[1040]
calculate your risk-taking capability? For聽 that, I鈥檝e made this video. You can also聽聽
[1044]
check out the i button. First you can check out聽 this video. Understand what is your risk profile,聽聽
[1048]
and then take a decision whether you聽 want to invest in stock markets or not.
[1054]
And the final concept is asset allocation聽 and diversification. I鈥檓 sure everyone has聽聽
[1060]
heard about this quote that never put聽 all your eggs in one basket. Similarly,聽聽
[1064]
never put all your investments in a specific聽 asset class. So, some should be allocated聽聽
[1070]
towards equity, some can go in bonds, some聽 in mutual funds, some in crypto maybe,聽聽
[1075]
right. So, I want you all to tell me in the聽 comment section where all have you invested聽聽
[1079]
your money in. Don't put in the amounts, okay. You聽 don't want others to know about how much you have,聽聽
[1084]
right. So let me know about where聽 you have invested. Also, let me know聽聽
[1088]
if I want to make a separate video on ideally聽 how much should be your asset diversification?聽聽
[1094]
In which asset class you must invest how聽 much percentage of your total portfolio?
[1103]
Well, I hope you have understood and enjoyed these聽 top 10 financial concepts that one must know,聽聽
[1108]
and if you have, don't forget to share it聽 with your top 10 friends or any 10 friends.聽聽
[1112]
Till then, take care and bye bye.
