The 3.5 BEST Index Funds That Will Make You RICH! - YouTube

Channel: Mark Tilbury

[0]
hi guys it's mark so have you ever
[1]
wished there was an easy way to become
[3]
rich that anyone could do with no prior
[6]
experience well guess what there is and
[8]
i've made millions doing it myself but
[10]
before you click off thinking this is
[12]
some kind of scam i'm not pumping the
[14]
latest crypto coin or trying to sell you
[16]
an online course that costs 997 dollars
[19]
i'm instead referring to index funds
[22]
index fund investing is super easy
[24]
incredibly effective and in most cases
[27]
actually ends up beating the profits of
[29]
professional investors a study published
[32]
in 2020 showed over a 15-year period
[34]
nearly 90 percent of actively managed
[37]
investment funds failed to beat the
[38]
market simply put experts who spend
[41]
their full-time job trying to beat the
[42]
market are unable to beat most investors
[45]
that use the index fund strategy so
[47]
today let's discuss what an index fund
[49]
actually is which ones are best for you
[51]
and how you can use them to grow your
[53]
wealth right after you smash that like
[56]
button for the ltube eugerism i'm going
[58]
to be honest i almost didn't make this
[60]
video the world has changed over the
[62]
last couple of years and now most people
[64]
only seem interested in the stocks and
[66]
crypto going to the moon i get it it's
[68]
exciting to see your money multiplied
[70]
quickly but the harsh truth is lots of
[73]
people are investing more than they can
[74]
afford to lose in risky investments this
[77]
means that when a crash happens and
[78]
believe me it always does many people
[81]
will be left with nothing i've seen this
[83]
happen time and time again and the
[85]
people that make it through the storm
[87]
are usually the ones that also invest
[89]
for the long term of course i've taken
[91]
my fair share of risks over the years
[93]
like investing in a dot-com bubble and
[96]
now by investing in the metaverse
[98]
however the one thing i've kept
[99]
consistent is my index fund investing no
[102]
matter if the market is up or down every
[104]
week i prioritize those investments this
[107]
has allowed me to grow my wealth over
[109]
the long term while a lot of my
[111]
previously richer friends have lost
[112]
everything so i like to think of index
[114]
funds as my secret weapon as they've
[117]
meant that i've always had a backup for
[119]
when the worst happens if you only ever
[121]
watch one of my videos all the way
[122]
through to the end then it definitely
[124]
should be this one so it's been a while
[126]
since i've talked about index funds so
[127]
let's break down what they actually are
[131]
think of these skittles as lots of
[132]
different individual companies this one
[135]
is tesla this one is apple and this one
[138]
is coca-cola now as an investor you
[140]
could cherry pick the ones that you like
[142]
the most this is called investing in
[145]
individual stocks however these
[147]
companies go bankrupt or crash in value
[150]
you're in trouble mind you i do like the
[153]
new sour skittles they're very tasty the
[155]
great thing about index funds is with
[157]
one simple purchase you can own all the
[159]
skittles in the bowl without having to
[161]
deal with all the hassle of creating
[163]
your own hand selected portfolio or have
[166]
some expensive manager do it for you
[168]
this is because they're passively
[169]
managed which means they are extremely
[171]
cost effective i have a large chunk of
[173]
my wealth in index funds and i dabble
[175]
with individual stocks using my fund
[177]
money this is because i occasionally
[179]
enjoy the excitement of seeing an
[181]
investment skyrocket 40 in a day which
[184]
let me tell you it's never gonna happen
[186]
with an index fund but that's not a bad
[188]
thing as it's all about building
[190]
long-term wealth and not short-term wins
[192]
the truth is that if a stock or crypto
[194]
can give you these kinds of returns then
[196]
it could also swing back the other way
[198]
the great thing about index funds is if
[200]
one company from within the bowl is
[202]
having a bad time
[204]
like this one boom you've still got all
[206]
the other companies holding it up an
[208]
index fund aims to track something
[210]
called an index which is a lot like a
[212]
sports leaderboard they can rank company
[214]
size location business type and even
[217]
currencies though because there are so
[219]
many choices let's pretend we're in a
[221]
supermarket and i'll walk you through my
[223]
3.5 favorite baskets of stocks to invest
[226]
in the reason i've added a 0.5 is
[229]
because there's a new kid on the block
[231]
remember i'm a businessman and not a
[233]
financial advisor these are just
[235]
investments i believe in and none of
[237]
this should be taken as financial advice
[239]
i'm just aiming to make you aware of
[240]
these investments so please do your own
[242]
research before investing basket number
[245]
one is of course the s p 500 index this
[248]
is the big daddy of index funds and
[250]
you've probably heard people talking
[252]
about it before i've certainly mentioned
[254]
it hundreds of times but there's a good
[256]
reason for this as it is such a great
[258]
investment and it's done very well for
[260]
me over the years on average the s p 500
[263]
has returned investors eight to ten
[265]
percent per year which isn't anything
[267]
crazy compared to the latest crazies
[269]
like shiba inu but it is pretty
[271]
consistent and much less volatile that
[273]
sounds great but what's inside the
[275]
basket well the s p 500 is the top 500
[279]
american companies well actually it's
[281]
505 stocks to be exact in order to be
[284]
included in the s p 500 a company must
[286]
meet certain requirements including
[288]
achieving a specific market cap having
[291]
the majority of its shares in public
[292]
hands and being a public company for at
[294]
least a year so if you buy one share of
[297]
the s p 500 you will actually own a
[299]
small piece of amazon tesla apple paypal
[303]
and so much more the ultimate flex is
[305]
telling your friends you own all of
[307]
these companies one of the benefits of
[309]
the s p 500 is that it's widely spread
[312]
across many great companies in the usa
[314]
to be honest they are more like
[315]
worldwide companies now since the
[317]
creation of the internet has blurred the
[319]
lines between borders and made the world
[322]
much much more interconnected the
[324]
historical return of eight to ten
[325]
percent has allowed me to generate a
[327]
fortune over the years due to the power
[329]
of compound interest however it's worth
[332]
pointing out that the s p 500 is a bit
[335]
tech heavy these days with five big tech
[338]
stocks dominating 23 of the entire fund
[342]
it's up to you if you see this as a
[343]
positive or a negative i personally
[345]
don't mind as tech is doing really well
[347]
and i do believe it's the future but
[349]
there are so many different index funds
[351]
that track the s p 500 which one do i
[353]
pick well that depends on where you live
[355]
in the world and what investing platform
[357]
you're using the best i found in the usa
[360]
the v5x index fund or the vu etf the
[363]
best in the uk would probably be the usa
[366]
etf but there are tons of other etfs
[368]
that also track the s p 500. one thing i
[371]
look out for is that the dividends are
[373]
reinvested into the fund the only real
[375]
difference between an index fund and an
[377]
etf otherwise known as an
[379]
exchange-traded fund is that these can
[381]
be purchased or sold at any time
[383]
throughout the day just like a stock as
[385]
long as the market is open of course
[387]
that's why they're exchange traded it's
[390]
in the name index funds can only be
[392]
purchased in full once per day so for
[394]
example if the price of the fund is 500
[397]
you must pay 500 whereas an etf can also
[401]
be purchased in fractional shares which
[403]
means you don't have to buy a full share
[405]
and can instead invest whatever amount
[407]
you like this is great if you're just
[409]
starting out or you want a dollar cost
[411]
average in i do this by making a stand
[413]
in order each week and i don't even know
[415]
it's gone from my bank account really
[417]
and truly there isn't a huge difference
[419]
between an index fund and an etf so just
[421]
consider which one is best for you and
[423]
take the plunge if you want to get
[425]
started then public have given away a
[426]
free stock worth all the way up to a
[428]
thousand dollars if you live in the usa
[430]
and free trade are giving you a free
[432]
stock worth all the way up to 200 pound
[434]
if you live in the uk i'll leave those
[436]
links below basket number two is a total
[438]
stock market index the total stock
[441]
market index is well the definition of
[443]
diversification you can't really get any
[445]
more skin in the game for a lower cost
[448]
than this so if you want to invest for a
[449]
long period of time without having to
[451]
check or even think about it then this
[453]
is most likely the fun for you investing
[456]
in everything means you can experience
[458]
gains across the entire market and
[460]
unless a crazy crash happens you should
[462]
be okay but even if it does crash with
[465]
time things bounce back i've seen three
[467]
crashes since i've been an investor the
[469]
dot-com bubble the 2008 financial crisis
[473]
and the 2020 coveted crash i'm not going
[475]
to pretend these crashes didn't hurt but
[478]
long term every market i've invested in
[480]
has bounced back the downside to this
[482]
index is that it depends on the entire
[484]
market trending upwards this means that
[486]
there could be an individual stock that
[488]
you really believe in that goes all the
[490]
way to the moon but you might not
[492]
experience those gains because that one
[494]
stock doesn't play much of a role within
[496]
the index fund if you're an active
[497]
investor who likes to trade and mess
[499]
with options this index fund is probably
[502]
great to have as a safety net that you
[504]
regularly invest into the best i've
[506]
found in the usa is the vt sax index
[508]
fund and the vti etf and the best in the
[511]
uk is the vwrl etf these are vanguard
[515]
index funds but you should be able to
[517]
buy them on most platforms including
[519]
public and free trade the third basket
[522]
is the emerging markets index emerging
[525]
markets are predicted by some experts to
[527]
be on the rise and whether i agree with
[529]
this or not i think it's important to
[531]
have at least a little bit of exposure
[533]
to these markets it's all well and good
[535]
buying the s p 500 but when china or
[538]
another emerging country has some great
[540]
gains you'll end up missing out i'm
[542]
definitely more excited about funds like
[544]
the s p 500 but as i also do a lot of
[546]
business in china i see firsthand why
[549]
investing in emerging markets is a good
[551]
idea just as an example of this growth
[553]
when i first traveled to china i looked
[555]
into buying an apartment in shenzhen
[558]
this real estate was 47 000 and is now
[561]
worth over a million this just shows the
[563]
potential growth in these markets
[566]
emerging market funds are definitely the
[568]
most risky type of index fund we've
[570]
discussed so far these funds include
[572]
stocks from lots of different growing
[573]
markets and can be very heavy with
[575]
chinese companies taking a look at the
[577]
list of the largest economies in the
[579]
world a lot of them are emerging markets
[582]
so it just makes sense to me to throw a
[584]
little bit of money in for
[585]
diversification also the population of
[587]
these emerging markets is absolutely
[590]
huge so i think there is certainly
[591]
potential for growth not only in their
[593]
own countries but in exports as well as
[596]
i said before these are definitely more
[598]
risky place but countries are adapting
[600]
and evolving so i do like to invest in
[602]
their future the best i've found in the
[604]
usa is a
[605]
v-e-i-e-x that's a mouthful etf and in
[608]
the uk the v-f-e-m-e-t-f
[612]
they don't make it any easier there do
[613]
they basket number 3.5 is a bit of a
[616]
bonus one as it's the metaverse index
[619]
recently i've made a few videos on the
[620]
metaverse and you guys seem super
[622]
excited about it which is great because
[624]
i am too i actually re-watched the film
[627]
ready player one the other day and if
[629]
you ever want to see the possibilities
[631]
of the metaverse then i recommend
[633]
watching this movie this has just made
[635]
me even more confident the potential
[637]
profit is insane and therefore it's not
[639]
something that i can ignore because of
[641]
this i've been investing more and more
[643]
into companies that i think will be
[644]
heavily involved in the metaverse and
[646]
i'm not just talking about meta if you
[648]
want to see my other picks i made a
[650]
video about it a few weeks ago it's just
[652]
here i've just been picking my favorite
[654]
stocks and building my own portfolio but
[656]
round hill investments are offering a
[658]
meta etf this makes things easy as it
[660]
offers exposure to lots of companies
[662]
that are set to benefit and take part in
[665]
the metaverse all with one simple buy
[667]
but of course the metaverse isn't here
[669]
yet and it's all just speculation at the
[671]
moment also the top 10 companies in this
[673]
etf are not all selections i would make
[675]
so that's definitely something to look
[677]
out for and consider this etf also has
[679]
quite a high expense ratio of 0.75
[683]
which may not sound a lot but trust me
[685]
it's considerably more than a lot of the
[687]
funds i've already talked about i think
[688]
the best way forward is to look at what
[690]
stocks the meta etf holds and then buy
[692]
the ones you like individually but if
[694]
this sounds like too much hassle then
[696]
the etf is definitely something to
[698]
consider when i first heard about index
[700]
funds i thought it was fantastic as
[702]
before i'd always thought investing was
[704]
only for the rich the most important
[706]
thing is getting started and index funds
[709]
gave me the ability to start investing
[711]
when i knew very little which meant that
[713]
i could get the snowball rolling so if
[715]
you're sitting on the fence then now is
[717]
as good a time as ever to start your
[719]
long-term investing journey so i'm going
[721]
to leave the next video right up there
[723]
but don't click on it just yet make sure
[725]
to subscribe if you want to grow your
[726]
wealth and don't forget to pick up the
[728]
free stocks and bitcoin with the links
[730]
below okay i'll see you over there
