Today we will know about Tor, the Tor network, the tor browser,
[2]
The advantages and disadvantages, who should use it
[7]
Is it legal or not?
[9]
What is the dark web and in all A to Z we will cover the topic of Tor
[21]
Hi Guys, My name is Kripesh Adwani
[23]
Here I help you in making a better software purchase decision,
[28]
So we are going to talk about Tor,
[31]
Let's understand what is a tor network first
[34]
Tor is a volunteer-run system that helps in making the internet use anonymous
[40]
When you are using tor network, you are reaching your destination website via bouncing on different IPs,
[50]
If I want to visit, Google.com, so I will first go to the Australian server first, then to the New Zealand server and then to the USA server,
[59]
So all the traffic will be relayed and the data transfer will be in the encrypted format,
[67]
Now I will help you with an example,
[69]
These 3 mobile devices are the three nodes or the three servers where my data will get transferred
[76]
If I typed Google.com, it will go to this server first and it didn't know my data as it is in an encrypted format
[85]
It cannot read my data
[88]
Then it will transfer it to the next server,
[90]
This server is also unaware of what has been sent in this data
[95]
It just knows the destination from where the data has arrived,
[100]
It will share the traffic to the final device and it knows what I have written,
[106]
So it does know that I have written Google.com but it doesn't know that I have sent this data
[115]
So due to this the original IP address is not leaked,
[119]
And it is working like a full proof system
[122]
So this IP address will work for it, open the site and I can work through this
[128]
All the parts mentioned here are relays or nodes,
[133]
Volunteer-run is anyone can create nodes from here
[138]
If you want to work as a relay or node then you can do so from here
[143]
So Tor has 7000 nodes and relays, through which it transfers data
[149]
It is not transferring from all 7000 but only the minimum 3 nodes through which data is transferred
[156]
So what is the full form of Tor,
[157]
It is Onion Router,
[158]
Just like the onion has different peels, in the same manner, the data is encrypted,
[165]
It is bouncing through different IPs,
[169]
So how to use the Tor network,
[172]
The simplest method is to download the tor browser as it is available in Mac, Windows, Linux and in Android Play store, it is available,
[180]
I will provide their links in the description
[183]
So it is good as it anonymises your IP but it is having certain disadvantages,
[189]
First is speed,
[191]
Since it is bouncing from different IPs so it will provide an impact on the speed,
[198]
In my case, my internet speed is above 100 Mbps, and
[204]
But when I used Tor the speed was 10 Mbps Download and Upload,
[207]
Around 90% loss was observed in speed,
[211]
The next disadvantage is ISP will not be able to detect the websites visited,
[218]
But it will know that you were on Tor Network,
[220]
If I was on Tor Network for an hour then it will know that I was for 1 hour
[227]
It won't be able to detect the websites I am visiting through it
[232]
Tor will not help in P2P and torrenting, as you will have to use VPN for it
[237]
The last con is, in the exit node has the data regarding the websites that are visited,
[243]
The data cannot be traced back, but still, it will have information of it as it is known as exit node,
[249]
Since the data goes out from here so it has to see the data
[252]
So this will have the data for the websites visited by you in Tor Browser
[256]
But again it cannot be traced back to you
[259]
If I talk about VPN Vs Tor,
[261]
I will make a separate detailed video regarding the points that you need to keep in mind,
[267]
Today's video is purely focused on Tor
[270]
If you would have heard about the term Tor, then there's an addition to this and that's Darkweb,
[277]
For understanding darkweb, we will understand what is a surface web then deep web then dark web
[281]
The surface web is the content that is visible online, all that is in the clear web and it is in the surface web
[292]
If you search about Best VPN in India, and then you saw my video
[294]
So that is on the surface web and since it is indexed you can search about it, so this is surface web,
[301]
Then there's deep web, which cannot be searched, and there's an entry barrier as well,
[309]
Suppose there are bank statements, and if I login through the internet banking then I am able to view the statements and
[317]
It is not visible in the search engine, and no one can see that
[322]
So this is on the deep web, as it can not be searched,
[327]
Third is dark web or dark net,
[329]
This can be accessed through Tor Browser only or through a tor network,
[335]
So these are the .onion websites and these are mostly famous for the illegal stuff
[340]
But there are some legitimate works as well
[344]
I will be telling about that in the screen
[346]
So this is the tor browser, and you have the search engine of DuckDuckGo,
[353]
For onion websites, I will also tell some legitimate websites to you
[357]
First onion website is SecureDrop,
[360]
You can securely share your documents in the news organisations,
[365]
If there's a whistleblower then they can use the websites,
[370]
It can provide the documents directly to Washington post, without revealing their identity
[374]
RiseUp is a popular forum for journalists
[377]
So you will get a onion version of Wikipedia, and CIA,
[385]
So the ones who have to share the information with CIA anonymously then they can do so with it
[391]
Then we have emails, which can be sent anonymously through this site,
[397]
Tor doesn't focus only on the onion websites but also on the various websites like youtube
[409]
So you can see that it is loading very slow, so do not think about streaming on it
[415]
So as you can see it is still loading
[421]
You can search from here and also the clean web,
[426]
It is not necessary that you always use onion websites for it
[428]
Why someone would use Tor
[430]
Firstly it is used by people who are privacy-conscious,
[437]
Then there are journalists and whistleblowers who would require this
[441]
then the army, and national defence agencies as well as Government employees will use for being anonymous,
[447]
So will Tor Browser hide the IP Address
[449]
As I have mentioned it goes through differnt relays,
[451]
So yes, the IP Address really gets hidden
[456]
Then does Tor really make you anonymous,
[462]
Nothing is 100% Secure on the internet but Tor Browser so really make you anonymous to some extent
[467]
So your data will be visible at the last node,
[472]
The data can be viewed but it cannot be linked and
[474]
Your ISP will know that you are using Tor Browser
[479]
So if you are using Tor Browser frequently for 2-3 hrs daily then it can be an alarming situation to your ISP
[489]
The Government can question you for this
[491]
So Tor Browser is good, but it is not for doing illegal activities, because it can be traced back by the Government
[501]
They can trace you back, so illegal activities is a big no,
[507]
If you need privacy for using then you can use VPN along with Tor, as it will protect you more
[514]
Is Tor legal? and can it be used in India?
[519]
Using Tor is legal, but the scenario of using Tor will entirely depend upon whether it is legal or illegal,
[530]
If your purpose is for illegal use, then Tor Browser will be illegal,
[538]
Don't think you can do anything and you will not be traced,
[543]
If the work on the Tor browser is legal then this is also legal and it can be used too
[550]
So can Tor be downloaded on Android?
[552]
There are some apps which are based on Tor Network,
[556]
Can you change the country on Tor?
[558]
You cannot select a country manually like you can do on a VPN,
[563]
If you want to select various continues, then it is not possible in Tor
[569]
You can select a new circuit which is automatically allocated on the basis of how the data is transferred
[575]
It will decide from which relay and which server you will go to access a website,
[579]
whether it will be from the US or Australia or New Zealand or from India, the Tor network automatically decides for this which you cannot control,
[588]
Next is whether streaming can be done
[591]
So you can stream but the speed will be very slow,
[593]
Tor is not recommended for streaming
[595]
Since you cannot select the location so you cannot work at all
[602]
Can Tor steal your data?
[606]
So the last node is the only one to steal your data and since they can not link the data
[615]
So this can steal the data but without the details of the owner, such information is priceless, and it does not have value in the market
[621]
It is pretty safe, your data is secure in the tor browser,
[626]
Tor is way better than a free VPN
[631]
I have also made a detailed video on the free VPN which is on the iButton,
[637]
I have also mentioned some of the free VPN which is good, which you can find on the iButton
[642]
So you can use it and you will get a good speed along with this
[645]
For speed and P2P downloading you will require VPN and
[651]
For all the queries related to the best VPN are mentioned in the video of BEST VPN In India
[660]
So this was all the information related with TOR
[663]
I hope you have understood the Tor Basics and fundamentals, and I hope all the concepts related to Tor are now clear to you
[671]
So that's all for this one
