What are the most in-demand skills for the future?
[3]
What should you learn if you want to make sure that the trends towards A.I.
[6]
and automation have absolutely no impact in your life
[10]
and that there is no worry for unemployment in the next ten years?
[14]
Well, in this video, we are going through a very recently published report
[18]
where Udemy covers all we need to know about
[22]
the most in-demand skills for the future in their 2022 workplace report.
[27]
So let's dove it in this piece of research.
[30]
Udemy split the skills that they want to propose
[33]
as the most in-demand for the future into three categories.
[37]
First of all, they talk about power skills and they want to really make
[41]
a stand in the sense that these skills are nothing soft.
[46]
There's really nothing soft about these skills.
[49]
And that's why they call them power skills.
[51]
And they believe that these skills are absolutely instrumental
[56]
for any employee or any individuals success in the workforce,
[61]
no matter whether that is as an employee or as a contractor or freelancer.
[66]
So really, these power skills are absolutely critical.
[70]
The second category that they cover, they call them tactical skills.
[75]
And we will go into more depth into what these specifically are
[80]
because they are more, let's say, function specific or career path specific.
[86]
And then the third category that they cover is technical skills.
[90]
And here we're going to go in-depth on what kind of technology
[94]
skills they believe will be really critical in the future.
[97]
So let's take them one by one.
[99]
All right, guys, let's start from the top.
[101]
So what do Udemy include under this power skills category?
[105]
Well, first off, we're talking about communication and teamwork.
[109]
And this is so, so key, especially in this environment
[112]
of hybrid work or remote work, when we have to deal with Zoom
[116]
calls or teams calls or, you know, virtual calls all day long.
[121]
Communication skills are so important when you're face to face
[125]
with somebody, you can find ways to get on the same page.
[129]
But when you work remotely and you have to get along
[133]
only via emails or instant messaging or virtual calls,
[137]
then absolutely communication is such an important skill for success.
[142]
Now, the next category, the next type of skill that Udemy believe
[146]
is so, so crucial under this power skills category is leadership and management.
[151]
And this is not only because more and more people
[154]
choose to work in these distributed teams.
[157]
And obviously there is a need for some of them to step up
[160]
and take over this role of a leader or a manager.
[164]
But this skill is so important to make sure that you can
[170]
handle teams that are very, very diverse
[174]
and very geographically distributed as well.
[177]
Now, the next type of skill that is so important
[181]
under the category of power skills is productivity and collaboration.
[186]
And this goes really hand-in-hand with the previous two,
[190]
especially in this environment that is hybrid
[193]
or mostly remote collaboration and productivity are key.
[198]
It has been shown multiple times
[201]
that since the you know, the last two years
[205]
have started and most people have been working remotely.
[208]
Productivity has decreased.
[211]
People are working longer, but they are able to do less
[215]
because of all the distractions that happen at home, because of
[219]
all the stress that has been accumulating and because of the isolation.
[223]
So productivity is such an important element
[227]
because nobody wants to spend hours on end getting their job done.
[231]
You want to
[232]
make sure that you use your time wisely and that you are highly productive
[236]
with the time you choose to dedicate to working.
[238]
So productivity is really, really key.
[241]
And the last but not least, we're talking about personal development and wellness.
[245]
And again, this one is very much connected to this hybrid or remote
[250]
work environment that we've all been part of for the last two years.
[253]
Wellness is really critical, and I'm seeing lots of companies
[257]
putting so much focus on their employees well-being and investing in
[262]
all sorts of support that they can offer their employees from yoga.
[267]
To meditation, encouraging them to go
[270]
and do sports and so forth, but also personal development.
[273]
It has become so important because when you don't grow, you die literally.
[278]
That is what I believe and what my mantra has been for a very long time.
[282]
If there is no progress, then you don't feel like
[286]
there is a reason for you to continue fighting and pushing through.
[290]
And that is why personal development, in my opinion, is so important,
[293]
because it gives people an opportunity to see beyond the current struggles
[298]
and understand that there is an opportunity for growth
[302]
and that there is more out there that can be grabbed.
[305]
So I definitely agree with the need for personal development
[309]
focus and for well-being so that we can all lead
[312]
more meaningful, more balanced and happier lives.
[316]
Moving to the second category in this really dense report from Udemy,
[322]
and this one talks about tactical skills, and I bet you guys
[325]
have been looking for these ones because I know you typically
[329]
want to get these and in as much detail as possible.
[333]
So here we go.
[334]
In terms of tactical skills, what Udemy believe
[337]
to be a really, really in demand in the coming years.
[340]
First off, it's business intelligence, and here
[343]
we're talking about the ability to make sense of data.
[347]
We can go into lots of detail about what business intelligence is.
[350]
I've talked about it
[351]
in many of my previous videos and I do it in my work every single day.
[356]
I am a big fan of using data and intelligence to make sense of
[360]
what is going on in a business, and I use that religiously
[364]
data is the one thing that you can trust and if you know how to use it,
[370]
the insights you can get are incredible and companies are waking up
[374]
to see the value of data, and they are waking up
[377]
to see the importance of having very, very talented
[382]
and highly skilled business intelligence specialists who are able to provide them
[387]
with that kind of insight and then with recommendations
[391]
that companies and businesses can use to run their businesses
[395]
better, to make more money, to save costs and to impact more people.
[400]
Up next is design end user experience or UX?
[405]
And again, I've talked about this one.
[407]
I can fully agree with the importance of this type
[410]
of work and service in the workplace.
[413]
This can be done, of course, as an employee or as a contractor or freelancer.
[418]
And it is so, so important, especially with so many businesses
[422]
and companies taking their operations online.
[426]
There is such an importance for design and creativity
[430]
in the way that those services are presented online.
[434]
In the way that their funnels and lead generation
[439]
funnels are
[439]
created and the way that they take customers through
[444]
that experience and through those steps within the customer journey.
[448]
So ability to create and design
[452]
very compelling user experience and beautifully designed
[456]
journeys is definitely here to stay and will be in very high demand.
[461]
Up next, finance in accounting.
[462]
I mean, nobody can ever say that
[465]
finance will go away because money is important to everybody.
[469]
All businesses care about the way they spend their money
[473]
and how they can either save them or make more of them.
[476]
So finance and accounting is definitely here to stay.
[479]
I fully agree.
[480]
I would not necessarily agree that bookkeeping could be here to stay
[484]
because that is an aspect that can be a lot easier automated.
[489]
So I wouldn't necessarily recommend
[491]
that you look into bookkeeping, but that might be the first step
[494]
you need to take if you want to pursue a career in finance.
[498]
Next type of skill is H.R.
[500]
and talent management.
[501]
And with all the power skills that we've talked about earlier on,
[505]
I can absolutely see the importance for talented H.R.
[509]
and talent management individuals who can offer this.
[512]
Again, either as a contractor or as an employee of a company,
[516]
managing a company's workforce, be that full time employees or contractors
[521]
is so important, especially with the overwhelming
[525]
amount of work and with the isolation and the remote working, talented H.R.
[531]
managers and talent managers are really, really key to making sure that they keep
[536]
the employee experience really smooth
[540]
and that people enjoy working for that company.
[543]
I know I put a lot of effort into this with my own teams,
[547]
and I can definitely see the importance of this kind of service.
[551]
Next on the list is Project Management.
[553]
And again, I can definitely see the importance of this kind of services
[558]
and this kind of into
[559]
individuals who are trained and certified as project managers.
[562]
And this is because nowadays for productivity purposes,
[565]
a lot of work has been dialed down into small projects.
[570]
And basically everything has become a project, even in sales,
[574]
even in marketing, everything can be dial down
[578]
into a project, and you need people who know how to manage
[582]
projects properly in order to ensure the success of that project.
[586]
So definitely consider
[588]
project management if that is something that you are thinking about.
[592]
Go for it.
[594]
And then last but not least, in this category,
[596]
we're talking about sales and customer experience.
[599]
I mean, it goes without saying everybody needs sales, right?
[603]
Every business needs to sell, otherwise they make no money.
[606]
So they do need talented people who are able to sell.
[610]
Now, the way that the sales process goes can be done in so many ways.
[615]
So here I'm not just talking about somebody sitting at a register
[618]
and selling.
[619]
There are probably tons of different kinds of sales,
[624]
from digital sales to in-person sales to closers to sales scriptwriters.
[628]
There's lots
[629]
and lots of opportunity in this space in terms of sales and customer experience.
[634]
And then when it comes to customer experience, again,
[636]
there is so much that can be done.
[638]
So many companies taking their businesses online
[640]
and at every stage in the customer journey, there are bottlenecks
[644]
and there are support teams that are trained to help customers
[649]
go smoothly and flawlessly
[652]
through that customer experience, through that funnel.
[655]
The importance of customer experience is so, so critical.
[658]
And I see so many companies really dialing down and focusing on
[663]
the importance of the customer experience they offer to all of their customers.
[668]
Now we've come to category number three, and here we're talking about
[671]
technical skills.
[672]
All of these are related to technology, and I could not agree more with you.
[677]
To me, the importance of getting technology skills is
[680]
so, so high and there is such a huge gap in terms of people trained
[686]
and certified for technology and having really good technical skills.
[691]
So absolutely, if you are into computers and technology,
[696]
do consider one of the following, because there will be absolutely
[700]
no concern for you moving forward on whether you will have work
[704]
because people are dying, they're killing to get someone like you
[709]
when you really are able to provide high quality services.
[712]
So what am I talking about when it comes to technical skills?
[716]
Well, Udemy are listing here
[717]
five categories and they start with cloud computing.
[721]
And I mean it goes without saying cloud technologies are here to stay.
[726]
No matter if we're talking about Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web
[731]
Services or Google Cloud, these three at least are here to stay and are.
[736]
There are lots of certifications that you can get
[739]
if you want to really get jobs, be that, as I said, as a full time employee
[744]
or as a freelancer when it comes to cloud computing.
[748]
So look into the certifications for these three big players in the cloud space
[753]
and you will have no worry in the world in terms of getting work.
[758]
Up next on the list we are talking about cybersecurity.
[761]
Security is such an important aspect in the technology world
[767]
because we are talking about lots of data nowadays with the amount of data
[772]
that is available and that is being transacted in the cloud.
[777]
There is a high need for security
[780]
specialists who are able to ensure
[783]
that a company's data is protected, it is safe, and it follows
[788]
all the regulations with GDPR and lots of other different regulations that exist.
[794]
It is so, so important to have this kind of specialist.
[796]
But I absolutely agree with you to me in the importance of having
[800]
highly trained security individuals.
[803]
The third type of technology skill that Udemy report talks
[807]
about is data science and this one goes hand-in-hand with business intelligence.
[811]
The one that I've talked about just a little bit ago, data
[814]
science is the use of data and building algorithms and building
[820]
statistical models in order to extract business insights.
[824]
So a business intelligence and a data scientist individual
[827]
will always be working together in order to make sure that the data
[832]
that is being used is properly included in the models
[837]
and the insights that are being extracted give the best quality value
[842]
within a customer's or a business's operations.
[847]
Up next, the Udemy report
[849]
talks about IT operations, and again, this one makes a lot of sense.
[853]
There is so high, such high need for IT
[856]
operations, skilled professionals and individuals.
[860]
That is because departments of technology or I.T.
[864]
are becoming bigger and bigger, and projects within
[868]
it are becoming more and more.
[870]
Every company is a technology company
[873]
nowadays that any business that wants to continue
[877]
being there in the next ten years, they have to be present online.
[881]
They have to have lots of technology embedded into their operations.
[886]
So that is why it operations is so, so key.
[890]
And obviously, last but not least, software development,
[894]
we have lots of different languages that we can look into
[898]
so I'm not going to go
[899]
into that level of detail, but any type of software development,
[903]
especially if we're talking about cloud computing,
[906]
will be in high demand in the future.
[908]
And you have lots and lots of opportunity ahead of you.
[911]
And if you guys want more details in terms of what certifications
[915]
should you be getting to make sure that not only do you have these skills,
[919]
but you can prove authority,
[920]
then make sure you go
[921]
ahead and watch this video because I talked about the most in-demand
[924]
certifications nowadays and that you can explore
[928]
we talk about everything you need to know
[930]
about those certifications, how much money you can expect to make,
[933]
where you can take them, and much, much more.
[936]
Thank you so, so much writing.
[937]
I hope you enjoy today's video. I'll see you next time. Find
