here is aishwarya and i am super excited today
[3]
because i passed the ICBC knowledge test
[6]
and i got a 100 percent so i am so excited
[9]
so i thought i would tell you how i did that
[11]
and how i passed my exam
[13]
so get ready to hear all the tips I have
[16]
and I have a few extra tips so that also i will give you
[20]
but for that you have to keep watching the video
[22]
till the end so here we go
[25]
Intro music
[35]
To be able to drive on the roads of Canada, you’ll first have to successfully complete
[39]
the ICBC knowledge test.
[42]
So if you are in British Columbia this is the test you have to complete
[44]
but if you are in Toronto or any other part of Canada the test is almost similar
[48]
The knowledge test checks for understanding of the road rules, regulations, and traffic
[54]
signs and signals.
[56]
It will also ensure that you are able to safely start learning to drive with a qualified supervisor
[61]
and appear for your road test .
[64]
The test comprises of 50 multiple choice questions and will likely take 30 to 45 minutes to complete,
[71]
however there is no time limit on how long you can take
[76]
You don’t need an appointment to take a knowledge test, but make sure to arrive at
[80]
least 2 hours prior to closing time to make sure you get a spot in any ICBC centre
[86]
You can expect questions on road signs, safe driving tips, and the rules and regulations.
[92]
To successfully pass the knowledge test, you will need to score at least 40 out of 50 questions
[97]
which is 80% of the total score
[101]
If you do not feel comfortable in English don't worry
[104]
You can also take the knowledge test is 11 different languages - English, Arabic, Cantonese,
[110]
Croatian, French, Farsi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
[118]
so do you need better clarity than that ?
[121]
Staff can help explain a question you may not understand.
[124]
also if it's too loud around you and you are distracted while taking
[127]
the test you can
[128]
Just ask for headphones, and you can either listen to or read the questions in 11 different
[134]
languages.
[135]
so now let’s go through how to prepare for the knowledge test first thing that you have to do is
[140]
Go through the Learn to Drive Smart manual. this is the manual right so this is called the learn to drive smart manual
[149]
It’s the first step to prepare for the test.
[152]
You can study the material online, on the ICBC app, or pick up a full copy at any ICBC
[158]
driver licensing office.
[161]
The link to downloading the manual is given in the description box of the video
[167]
The current version of the book has 9 chapters, and all of them are important.
[172]
so don't say that i will study a few chapters and maybe not the other four
[176]
you have to read all the nine chapters
[179]
Go through each of them.
[181]
Also go through the additional driving tips given on the side of the pages like this .
[187]
so here are the additional driving tips don't miss those
[191]
Time for additional tips now
[194]
The next step is to start taking practise test, the practise tests are available online
[198]
and you should take as many as you can to practise your knowledge.
[202]
If you can’t answer certain questions, you will know which chapter to go back to and
[207]
revise
[208]
Extra Tip: Don’t just take practise tests on one site, try tests from different websites
[213]
so that you can practise on a variety of questions.
[215]
. I am giving the links of some practise tests in the description of this video so do refer to those
[220]
Walk around and observe how others are driving on the roads, notice traffic signs,
[226]
intersections and try to see yourself driving in different situations.
[230]
You will be able to understand if you know most of the road signs given on the road and
[234]
know what to do when you are on the road driving yourself
[238]
Believe me this really helps, even when you are in a cab or a bus and can see what’s
[243]
happening on the roads, use it as a chance to practise your skills.
[247]
now i am going to keep giving you extra tips so keep listening carefully
[251]
Extra Tip: Understand the language of the test.
[253]
Some words that are used in the test can be completely new for you.
[258]
For example, I drove for many years in my own country but when I was reading the driving
[262]
manual here, words like standard transmission, pavement, yield, freeway were all new to me….so
[269]
I took some time out to understand the exact meaning of these words.
[273]
I looked at reference photos and dictionary meanings of some of these words.
[278]
Another Tip: Use the skip option when you appear for the test: If you are in BC the skip option
[283]
will be available to you on your computer.
[287]
You must give 40 correct answers so if you get any question whose answer you are not
[291]
sure about, skip it, it will go at the end of your list of questions.
[295]
If you answer 40 questions you might not even have to answer the same question again.
[300]
let's move to the next tip
[302]
Read all the options of a multiple-choice question before you begin to answer the question,
[307]
we might feel that we know the right answer to a question, but it is still important to
[312]
read all the options since sometimes two options are like each other and can confuse you so read all the options
[321]
next tip Read the language of the question, read the
[324]
question carefully sometimes the question can be written in a way that if not read carefully
[329]
it can cofuse you here is an example of a question like this
[334]
Which of the following would not qualify as an emergency call that I can make while driving?
[339]
The options are To ambulance services
[342]
To the police To the fire department
[344]
To a family member now look at the question carefully and notice the word not
[350]
that will help you arrive at the correct answer which is to a family member
[356]
don't forget to notice the word not in this question, or you would be confused
[361]
as to what the right answer is, like i told you the answer in this case
[364]
is D And now to the last tip: Know and understand
[368]
road signs properly, on an average every 5th question is about a road sign, so knowing
[374]
your road signs would really help.
[376]
I appeared for the knowledge test just a day back and got a 100 percent score, like I told you i was so excited when i started this video as well
[385]
I used the skip button for every question I was unsure about.
[388]
If you had a driving license in your country, carry it with you along with the driving extract
[393]
from your country, it would help you to appear for a class 5 driver’s road test directly.
[399]
All the best for your knowledge test!
[401]
Do well, and clear the first step to getting your license, which is ofcourse getting 80 percent marks in your knowledge test
[408]
