jackie joining us now to discuss it more
[2]
former white house strategic
[3]
communications director alyssa farah
[5]
and former dnc deputy press secretary
[7]
jose arista munoz
[9]
jose alyssa we've got a lot to talk
[11]
about thank you for taking time on a
[13]
saturday alyssa let me start
[15]
with you we heard that press conference
[18]
from
[18]
sheriff apple clearly this is moving on
[21]
two tracks
[22]
one a criminal investigation
[25]
but then of course the rapidly moving
[28]
fallout on possible impeachment from the
[29]
new york assembly
[31]
what do you see as governor cuomo's
[33]
future
[35]
so things keep getting worse for
[36]
governor cuomo but mark my words he's
[38]
going to fight it
[39]
so after what i'd consider probably the
[42]
worst public relations defense
[44]
of all time when he essentially argued
[46]
listen i'm inappropriate with a lot of
[48]
people not just these victims
[49]
his attorneys seem to have pivoted to a
[51]
new strategy which is making more of a
[53]
process
[54]
argument so that's what they're going to
[55]
try on the impeachment side of things
[57]
but this is a
[58]
major development that now he's under
[60]
criminal investigation as well
[62]
but i'm familiar enough with the cuomos
[63]
these are very arrogant people he is
[65]
going to fight it and he is going to try
[67]
to ride it out and hold on to political
[69]
power
[69]
but the walls are closing in on him jose
[72]
if you were advising governor cuomo
[75]
what would you be telling him because it
[78]
just
[78]
in in terms of just the impeachment
[80]
process with some two-thirds of the new
[82]
york assembly
[83]
publicly already calling for him to
[85]
resign
[86]
what is the the outcome that the
[88]
governor thinks is
[89]
politically possible but other than to
[92]
step down
[94]
sure well look i think the piece of
[95]
advice is pretty simple
[97]
governor don't go through the political
[99]
embarrassment of going through an
[100]
impeachment
[101]
you should resign the attorney general
[103]
of new york has been clear
[104]
the evidence has been cleared this is
[106]
not a democrat or republican issue
[109]
the evidence is there he should resign
[110]
today alyssa politically
[113]
what does this mean for democrats in new
[116]
york
[117]
so it's a hugely uh significant moment
[119]
and i would argue not just for democrats
[121]
in new york
[122]
many people believe that joe biden might
[124]
not run for a second term and if that
[126]
were the case and it were an open field
[128]
a governor cuomo was a top-tier democrat
[130]
candidate for a 2024.
[132]
this is the end of a political dynasty
[134]
it's the end of his rule
[135]
soon i hope in the governor's mansion
[137]
but it also spells the end of a
[139]
potential presidential ambition well
[141]
jose let me ask you because
[143]
the president wasted no time on the same
[146]
day on tuesday when this report came out
[149]
the president called for governor cuomo
[151]
to resign
[152]
politically smart
[156]
well look i think he's doing the right
[157]
thing and he's standing uh
[159]
you know by the american people look you
[161]
know we know
[162]
i don't think i agree uh with your
[165]
guests that i think
[166]
governor cuomo's political career career
[168]
is pretty much over
[169]
but then you got people on the
[170]
republican side who have been accused of
[172]
similar things president trump has been
[174]
accused
[174]
of doing similar things and he was
[176]
president of the united states doesn't
[178]
make it right by the way let me be very
[179]
clear
[180]
uh but but i think look um in terms of
[182]
who's you know
[183]
that the election you know in four years
[185]
you know from four years from today we
[186]
still got a lot of time the president of
[188]
the united states today is joe biden
[189]
we'll have plenty of democrats uh to run
[192]
in for or whenever the time may come
[194]
alyssa you you talked a little bit about
[196]
cuomo and what's known about his
[200]
ego and that sort of stuff it's it's
[202]
worth pointing out
[203]
that the reason why this report from
[205]
attorney general letitia james
[207]
came about was because the governor
[209]
under new york's law did authorize
[212]
for these investigations of sexual
[213]
harassment to be
[215]
looked into was that a mistake
[217]
ultimately was that cuomo's fundamental
[219]
mistake
[221]
it's hard to say one way or the other i
[223]
will give him this it was the right
[224]
thing to do though
[226]
i think he's got an invincibility
[227]
complex your network has extensively
[229]
covered the nursing home
[231]
controversy over 10 000 seniors died
[234]
under governor cuomo's care
[236]
and he managed to get away with that but
[238]
this is one that i don't think that he
[239]
can escape from
[240]
he may think he's invincible but he has
[242]
not and i i
[243]
commend these women for coming forward i
[246]
commend the process and frankly
[247]
democrats who have swiftly come out and
[249]
condemned him
[250]
that is a good thing it's the right
[251]
thing but the walls are closing in he
[253]
does not have a lifeline here
[255]
i think he's going to be gone pretty
[256]
soon but if he's not jose and if he is
[259]
as alyssa says thinking he has this
[261]
invincibility
[262]
complex and if hypothetically he
[265]
ultimately is arrested and criminally
[267]
charged
[268]
how much more damaging for new york
[272]
democrats
[272]
is that as opposed to him just simply
[276]
resigning tomorrow
[280]
look um you know i think first and
[281]
foremost uh he might have done what he'd
[283]
done and it's obviously it's wrong and
[285]
he's gonna face the consequences
[286]
but governor cuomo is a smart man he's
[288]
been you know he's been in power he's
[289]
been a governor for
[290]
for a long time um he's gonna do the
[292]
right thing i'm very hopeful
[293]
uh and all right let's look into the
[296]
crystal ball
[297]
alyssa your prediction for how this
[300]
plays out politically for governor cuomo
[303]
he will ride out the impeachment inquiry
[305]
he will put up a strong defense but
[307]
there is so much mounting pressure
[308]
around him
[309]
he's ultimately either going to be
[311]
removed from office or resign
[312]
what do you think happened jose
[315]
i think i think he's not going to be
[317]
able to handle the political pressure
[318]
from the president of the united states
[320]
from democrats republicans and the
[321]
country
[322]
as a whole i don't think he'll go
[323]
through uh the impeachment procedures i
[325]
think he'll resign before that
[327]
well we shall see and we will come back
[328]
here and talk about it alyssa farah jose
[331]
arista muno thank you very much for
[332]
taking time on this saturday
