Namashkar Friends!
[1]
Today, I want to talk about the different countries in the world.
[6]
And determine which country is best in the world.
[9]
I want to analyse different factors like environment, economy, education
[14]
And then conclude which is the best country in the world.
[20]
Consider this video as a sequel to my previous video
[23]
which talks about the best state in India.
[26]
I used the same method of analysis and conclusion in it.
[30]
If you haven't seen it, I would suggest you watch that first.
[33]
And on that note, let's start!
[39]
The first criteria to note is HDI, the Human Development Index
[46]
It basically measures three main criterias
[48]
The life expectancy,
[50]
education level,
[51]
and income of an average person in a country.
[56]
These are some of the most important tools to know if a country is
[60]
developed, developing or underdeveloped.
[64]
United Nations Development Program releases a human Development report every year with yearly HDI rankings.
[71]
In the 2016 rankings, Norway topped this list.
[74]
After which, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Singapore follow at the next 5 rankings.
[81]
And, India ranks at
[83]
131 out of 186 countries in this list.
[86]
First 50 countries on the list are classified as developed countries.
[91]
The second criteria is unemployment and the country which
[95]
has the lowest rate of unemployment is Qatar.
[98]
Only 0.1% of its population is unemployed.
[101]
Thailand, Belarus, Myanmar and Cambodia fill the next spots.
[104]
All these countries have less than 1% rate of unemployment.
[108]
These ranking however are not very credible because every country classifies unemployment in their own way
[113]
A lot of the countries that have topped this list are poor and have managed to
[116]
do so by hiding underemployment in employment rates.
[124]
India ranks at 122 with an unemployment rate of 8.8%
[130]
We need to keep in mind that developed countries have in place
[133]
a welfare system which often means that an unemployed person
[136]
will receive money and other benefits from the state.
[139]
However, this is not the case for poor countries where
[142]
the poor have to find work and earn money to be able to eat food and to survive as they have nothing to depend on.
[148]
This make the unemployment rankings a bit unreliable which is why we shouldn't be too focused on it.
[155]
The third criteria is the Nominal Gross Domestic Product
[159]
U.S.A tops this list
[161]
with a GDP of 20,000 billion dollars
[165]
After which China, Japan, German and France follow
[168]
India ranks at number 7 which is considered quite high
[172]
However, we all should keep in mind that the GDP is affected by the population of the country
[176]
A big population often inflates GDP
[179]
which means GDP numbers are often useless.
[187]
The ranking that matters is the GDP per person of a country.
[190]
when the total population is divided by the total GDP of the country.
[195]
Thus, GDP per capita rankings are much more important here.
[199]
In the 2017 rankings
[202]
Luxembourg tops this list. This is a small country in Europe.
[205]
After which Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Ireland and Qatar follow.
[210]
But now since we look at our GDP per capita in India, we fall way down in the list
[215]
and come at 140 out of 186 countries.
[221]
Nominal GDP and GDP per capita are calculated by IMF.
[224]
The next criteria isn't that important when we talk about the best country in the world,
[229]
however, some people will find it extremely important.
[231]
This is the 'Sex Ratio' of the country
[235]
If we look at the countries with higher number of females than males,
[242]
Curacao tops the list which is a small island in the Carribean controlled by Netherlands.
[247]
It has 121 females for ever 100 males.
[257]
After which Latvia, Martinique, Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia follow.
[263]
All of these are East European countries.
[265]
with a ratio of more than 116 females per males in the country.
[271]
Now, some people would consider the best countries to be those with more males.
[277]
Qatar tops that list with only 30 females for every 100 males
[286]
This list is followed by countries like UAE (43/100), Oman (53/100), Bahrain (61/100), Kuwait (67/100).
[299]
India ranks at 192 out of the 200 countries which were ranked.
[304]
We have 93 females for every 100 males.
[308]
The next criteria is ease of doing business.
[312]
In 2018 ranking, New Zealand tops the list.
[319]
After which Singapore, Denmark, South Korea, Hong Kong and USA follow.
[322]
Countries like Somalia, Venezuela and Yemen are at the bottom of this list.
[328]
Investing in businesses in these countries would be a bad idea.
[331]
India ranks at 100 in 2018.
[335]
Last year, India ranked at 130.
[338]
This is a huge leap and the reason India has done so well is
[344]
complicated and I may some day make a video about it.
[350]
Next criteria is one of the most important in my opinion,
[353]
It is the Environmental Protection Index (EPI)
[356]
It measure a plethora of factors as you can see in the chart behind me
[359]
But we can place all these factors in to two main areas
[363]
The first is 'Environmental Health'
[365]
which looks at air pollution,
[369]
availability of clean drinking water, level of sanitation amongst others.
[376]
The second area is 'Ecosystem Vitality'
[381]
This examines a country's biodiversity, forest cover and flora & fauna.
[388]
Switzerland tops this list.
[391]
After which, France, Denmark, Malta, Sweden and UK follow.
[396]
Here, India ranks at 177 out of 180 countries,
[402]
which makes India one of the worst countries in the EPI Index.
[408]
Moreover, if we only consider the first category - 'Environmental Health'
[412]
which includes air quality, clean water, cleanliness and sanitation
[416]
India ranks at 180 which is the last rank on the list.
[419]
All other countries in the World are better than India
[422]
180th out of 180...
[426]
We have the worst air and water quality in the world.
[429]
EPI is released by Yale university and this data is the latest data (for 2018)
[438]
The next criteria is also very important. It is 'Inequality'.
[443]
The divide between the poor and the rich of the country.
[446]
It is measured in the GINI Index
[451]
According to which,
[454]
Ukraine tops the list- with the least amount of inequality.
[457]
After which, Slovenia, Norway, Slovakia and Czech Republic follow.
[460]
These have the lowest inequality.
[463]
India ranks at 58.
[466]
The worst countries for inequality are South Africa and Russia.
[471]
Happiness is also an important criteria. And according to the World Happiness Report,
[478]
which judges different factors
[483]
to determine how happy is the average person of a country.
[486]
factors like freedom to make life choices,
[495]
social support, generosity,
[498]
life expectancy and even GDP
[501]
are considered to make the report.
[507]
In the 2017 report, Norway tops the list.
[511]
After which, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland and Netherlands follow.
[517]
India ranks at 122 out of 155 countries.
[521]
It is shameful that India ranks below countries like Iraq, Somalia, Iran and Pakistan.
[529]
The last criteria I will talk about is
[532]
the 'World Education Rankings' which test
[535]
the average education level of a child in a country
[538]
and their math, scientific and linguistic abilities
[544]
15 year olds of different countries are tested in
[547]
Reading, Math and Science
[549]
after which countries are ranked.
[552]
These ranking are done by an organisation called OECD.
[554]
They ranked 80 countries.
[558]
India wasn't ranked in this list.
[561]
The list was topped by South Korea.
[567]
Finland, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Australia follow.
[572]
So which country is the best country in the world?
[575]
What do you think?
[579]
Pause the video and comment down below!
[587]
Now, according to me, this is not an easy choice
[591]
It depends. We pointed out different criterias
[594]
and it is one's own choice to give more importance to one criteria over the other.
[602]
You can choose HDI, Happiness or any other criteria as the most important criteria.
[608]
And so, the best country is often your own perspective.
[613]
But if we give equal weightage to all the 10 barometers I mentioned
[618]
Norway is the best country!
[620]
And according to me Happiness and HDI
[623]
are the most important indicators to measure a country.
[626]
But like I said, there are many more
[629]
indicators to rank countries
[635]
US News and University of Pennsylvania release an yearly report of the best countries in the world
[640]
And uses many other indicators other than those I have mentioned in this video
[645]
like 'heritage'
[647]
or the history of the country,
[650]
its cultural attraction, its food
[651]
and other things like that
[654]
are given importance.
[655]
It also measures a country's cultural influence in the world,
[657]
how dynamic it is,
[660]
how different, unique or distinctive it is,
[662]
and how unique is its culture.
[665]
So, Norway might be the best country according to HDI
[668]
But the size of Norway's cultural history,
[671]
or its cultural influence in the world,
[675]
are often ignored in that index.
[678]
And so, on the basis of all these indicators
[681]
US News declares Switzerland as the best country.
[685]
And the next 5 are Canada, Germany, UK, Japan and Sweden
[692]
Here, India ranks 25th out of 80 countries.
[698]
India ranks good here
[701]
but ranks the worst in the environmental index
[704]
only because India's heritage and cultural influence
[707]
is really prominent.
[708]
Friends, I hope this video
[710]
helped you gain more knowledge.
[713]
If you liked this video, please don't forget to
[716]
share it with your friends and families.
[719]
All the information I've told you are from sources,
[722]
sources are very important.
[723]
You should always look out for sources
[725]
when you consume Indian or any other media
[728]
Sources like UN or World factbook
[731]
are legit and popular sources
[734]
If India media uses these resources
[737]
their reports could be credible, but if they don't,
[740]
the credibility of their news can be doubtful.
[744]
See you in my next video. Thank you!
