Hey guys, it's Jenny Silver with an
[2]
IRS Tax Refund update for you today.
[5]
On March 1 was the first date that the
[8]
IRS stated that it would begin to process tax
[11]
refunds from those tax returns that claimed either the
[15]
child tax credit or the earned income tax credit.
[18]
The IRS is restricted by the Path Act, which is
[21]
a federal law that prohibits the IRS from processing tax
[24]
returns that claim a child tax credit or an earned
[27]
income tax credit until after February 15.
[31]
The IRS previously stated that they would begin
[34]
issuing these refunds on or after March 1
[38]
for taxpayers who claimed these credits.
[41]
Now, many individuals have reported that they have
[43]
received a March 1 estimated payout date.
[46]
Some of you may have been scheduled to receive
[48]
your refund today and may have seen that March
[51]
1 day listed on Where's My Refund?
[53]
If you're still awaiting a refund, please keep in
[55]
mind that it can take several business days for
[58]
your bank to actually post the funds.
[60]
Additionally, for those of you that utilized a
[62]
professional tax preparer, if that tax preparer accepts
[65]
your refunds into a temporary account before it
[69]
is forwarded over to your own personal bank
[72]
account, then expect an additional delay.
[74]
Now, while some may have received their refunds
[77]
from the IRS today, many will also continue
[80]
to receive their refunds from the IRS as
[83]
it continues to process these in batches.
[85]
There are three different ways that
[86]
you can check your refund status.
[88]
Number one is to check on Where's My Refund.
[91]
Number two is to check IRS to go.
[93]
And number three is the most detailed method
[96]
which less people know about, which is checking
[98]
Your IRS Transcript in order to check your
[101]
IRS transcript, you're going to go to IRS.
[104]
Gov and follow the instructions in the
[106]
video that I have linked down below.
[109]
Now once you have the transcript, you're going to
[111]
look at the cycle code at the top.
[113]
If it ends in 10203 or four, that means
[118]
that you are on a daily processing schedule.
[121]
Those individuals who are on a daily processing schedule
[124]
those on a daily processing schedule will receive updates
[127]
to their transcript and their refund much faster since
[130]
the IRS processes changes on a daily basis.
[134]
For those who have a cycle code ending in five,
[137]
this means that the IRS processes changes to your transcript
[140]
and their master file once per week, so you will
[143]
have a slower basis for seeing changes on your transcript.
[147]
For more details on this specific schedule,
[149]
click the link in the video description.
[151]
If you see Code 846, that means that
[154]
your refund has been scheduled by the IRS.
[157]
The date next to this code is going
[159]
to denote the approximate date that the IRS
[161]
plans to send the funds over to you.
[164]
Please note that this is not the date
[166]
that you will necessarily see them appear in
[169]
your account or receive the check.
[171]
If you are on a daily processing schedule,
[173]
then anticipate a few business days after this
[176]
date to receive a direct deposit and if
[179]
you're on a weekly processing schedule, anticipate about
[182]
a week before you see the funds deposit.
[184]
Next, let's talk about those of you who
[186]
in your transcript are seeing Code 570.
[189]
If you see Code 570, this means that the
[192]
IRS has issued a temporary freeze on processing your
[195]
tax return until they receive more information.
[198]
No action is required by you, but unfortunately
[202]
this does delay the process of the IRS
[205]
moving forward with your tax return.
[207]
If you see a date listed next to Code
[209]
570, then this is the approximate date that the
[212]
IRS anticipates being able to resume processing your return.
[217]
Once you see Code 571 or 572 added onto your
[222]
transcript, that means that the IRS has received the information
[226]
that they needed and has proceeded onto processing.
[230]
Next, let's talk about Tax topic 152.
[233]
This is a generic message that the IRS
[235]
post when it is still processing your return.
[239]
It is not caused for alarm and there
[241]
is no action needed on your part.
[243]
It is perfectly normal to see this
[245]
message as it means that the IRS
[247]
is simply still processing your tax return.
[249]
However, for those of you who are seeing Tax
[251]
topic 151, this refers to the fact that your
[254]
tax refund will be offset by government debt.
[258]
This means that if a taxpayer has an outstanding liability
[261]
or default with the state or federal government that their
[264]
tax refund will be applied either in part or in
[268]
full to pay for the outstanding debt.
[271]
Lastly, many of you are letting me know that your
[274]
tax return from last year over a year ago is
[278]
still pending that you have not received your tax refund
[282]
despite filing over a year ago for tax year 2020.
[287]
Unfortunately, the IRS is still incredibly backlogged and
[291]
many individuals who filed last year, specifically those
[294]
who filed with paper filing, are still experiencing
[297]
a delay in receiving their refunds.
[300]
You can contact the IRS to ensure that there is
[303]
no issues on your end that are within your control.
[306]
However, in most cases, the IRS is reporting
[309]
to taxpayers that they simply must wait.
[312]
If the IRS is not able to help you, then
[314]
I would recommend that you contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service.
[317]
Another alternative which may be worth a
[319]
try is to contact your assembly member.
[322]
You can locate your assembly member by
[324]
utilizing the link in the video description.
[326]
Ok you guys, I hope that was helpful.
[328]

[330]
