Stramit EX-facta Training - Part 1: Benefits & Features - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[13]
G’day and welcome to the first part of a 3-part training series on Stramit EX-facta...
[17]
Design Software for Exacta Purlins with Stramit Bridging.
[20]
In this first video, I’ll give you a quick introduction to what EX-facta is and what it can do for you.
[25]
In part 2, I’ll demonstrate installation and registration of the software.
[31]
And in Part 3, I’ll demonstrate how to use the software and how to get the most out of it.
[38]
So what exactly is EX-facta?
[41]
EX-facta is a unique and powerful software package...
[44]
that enables engineers to optimise the selection of Exacta purlins for use in commercial and industrial buildings.
[50]
The software is available on CD
[53]
and it runs on Microsoft Windows.
[56]
If you would like a copy of the software...
[58]
please contact your local Stramit branch and they will send you out a CD free of charge.
[64]
Some of the features of the EX-facta software include:
[67]
the ability to find a suitable purlin size in a matter of minutes;
[71]
the ability to look at varying span lengths and types of span arrangement;
[77]
the capability to input complex span cases of mixed purlin lengths and a huge array of loading combinations;
[84]
graphical display of load combinations and span cases to ensure that your data is entered correctly;
[90]
the ability to analyse the effect of local pressure areas by incorporating moving loads;
[96]
and the ability of the software to check an existing design or calculate the required purlin size for you.
[103]
The software can also retain and store all potential solutions that you’ve investigated;
[109]
the ability to select which load cases you wish to analyse;
[113]
intuitive output display bars that show you the structural efficiency of your purlin design at a glance;
[119]
the ability to quickly identify over-stressed areas to aid you in the design optimisation process;
[126]
the ability to assess ‘overload’ cases to determine possible failure locations and mechanisms;
[132]
and a full audit trail report that can be incorporated into your structural design report.
[138]
So, why would you use Stramit EX-facta software rather than using look-up tables from a technical manual?
[143]
Well, without EX-facta, purlins can be selected from a large list of simple look-up tables
[148]
but these are sometimes over-conservative simplifications of loads and spans.
[152]
The Stramit technical manual has 27 look-up tables with an estimated 25,000 data values.
[158]
Using tables alone, there is no practical provision to alter bridging positions, adjust lap lengths or mix purlin thicknesses.
[167]
EX-facta is much faster, accurate and easier than looking up tables and manual calculations.
[174]
It is simply impossible to publish look-up tables covering every possible solution.
[181]
Please note that it is a condition of the software license agreement, that EX-facta...
[185]
...is only used to design structures using Stramit Exacta Purlins and Stramit Bridging.
[190]
Other purlins and bridging do not have the same characteristics...
[193]
or behave in the same way as Stramit Exacta Purlins and Stramit Bridging.
[196]
As with all software, please take careful note of the End-User License Agreement.
[201]
It is also important to note that the software is provided as-is and at no cost.
[206]
and as such, the software is provided without any formal technical support.
[210]
However, if you do have any comments or suggestions about EX-facta...
[214]
...you can send feedback via the Stramit web site by clicking on the Contact Us button.
[219]
A bit of history about EX-facta.
[222]
EX-facta was first launched back in April 2007
[226]
and uses a design method that has been patented by Stramit.
[230]
Since 2007 there have been a couple of incremental updates released.
[234]
and as of the production of this video in December 2011, we are using version 1.3.
[242]
Once you've registered the software...
[245]
you'll be automatically notified via email of all future releases of the EX-facta software.
[249]
It is highly recommended that you use the EX-facta software in conjunction with the Product Technical Manual...
[255]
and it’s called: “Stramit Exacta C&Z Purlins & Girts: Design Capacity Tables and Member Moment Capacities”
[262]
The technical manual will provide you with important information...
[265]
such as section sizes and properties, installation, accessories, materials, etc.
[271]
This manual can be downloaded from the Stramit web site at www.stramit.com.au
[277]
and by looking in the Resource Library under the Product Technical Manual section.
[282]
Alternatively, you can also request a hardcopy of the manual from your nearest Stramit branch.
[286]
In the next video, Part 2, I will demonstrate how to install the EX-facta software and get it up and running.
[292]
Then in part 3 of this series I will demonstrate how the software works and how to get the most out of it.
