Epoxy Floor Coating vs. Tiles: When to Choose an Epoxy Flooring - YouTube

Good day, Buildrite viewers!
[2]
One of the frequently asked questions from our Buildrite Page is when will we choose to use floor coating or tiles?
[21]
Ask to be sure.
[24]
What are the problems we usually encounter with tiles?
[27]
The common complaint to us here at Buildrite is the frequent cracking and debonding of tiles.
[36]
We have to consider where we'll use tiles
[41]
because there is a suitable area of application for tiles.
[44]
Meanwhile, floor coating and industrial floor coatings
[47]
have suitable areas of application too
[50]
for example, production areas,
[53]
warehouse areas,
[55]
multipurpose areas,
[57]
storage areas,
[58]
or garages.
[59]
We can use floor coating
[62]
because equipment, machinery, heavy loads, and foot traffic is high in these areas
[73]
Unfortunately, these may result in damaged tiles.
[75]
So floor coating, epoxy floor coating, or Epoxy FC
[79]
will help you do this job
[81]
because its high tensile strength is one of the good characteristics of epoxy floor coating.
[87]
This means it will be hard to remove
[90]
because it has a tensile strength of 4000 PSI
[92]
and compressive strength of around 8000 PSI.
[95]
That's really high!
[96]
And it has a Shore hardness D of around 85 PSI.
[99]
We do not recommend ordinary paints here.
[102]
We see a lot of people using paints
[106]
for sidewalks or the garage.
[109]
What they are using is latex
[112]
or acrylic emulsion.
[113]
The shore hardness D of those is probably around 30 PSI,
[118]
and it's not recommended for floors.
[121]
It's not that durable
[122]
and will deteriorate quickly.
[125]
So just a reminder, the epoxy floor coating is only recommended for indoor application
[130]
It is not suitable for outdoor applications.
[133]
Another good thing about this Epoxy Floor Coating
[136]
is its abrasion resistance.
[139]
Its abrasion resistance is around 105 milligrams loss per 5000 cycles,
[145]
whereas acrylic and latex-based paint is around 300-400 milligrams loss per 5000 cycles.
[154]
That's a very huge difference.
[156]
This Epoxy Floor Coating is also oil-resistant,
[161]
so if oil or gas in the garage spills,
[166]
all we have to do is wipe.
[168]
It's very durable,
[169]
it's also diluted acid resistant,
[171]
it's also alkali resistant,
[172]
and very suitable for warehouses
[175]
where jack pallets and forklifts were often used.
[178]
Before we apply a floor coating, we will first apply the Buildrite Moisture Barrier as a Primer.
[186]
Why do we need a moisture barrier as a primer?
[190]
First is because floor coatings do not easily adhere.
[193]
You have to use a primer first.
[196]
Second, a moisture barrier is important in areas where moisture is unavoidable.
[201]
The presence of moisture will cause debonding of floor coating.
[205]
So it is not true that you can skip the use of a primer to save,
[210]
and it's also not true that any primer will do.
[213]
We need to use a formulation that is suitable and will work as a moisture barrier for our floors.
[222]
Otherwise, our flooring investment will be a waste.
[226]
For us to apply the moisture barrier as a primer, we have to use different materials.
[233]
So we have this Squeegee-like thing
[237]
so this is a spreader.
[239]
This will be used to apply and spread the primer.
[242]
We can't immediately use the brush roller
[246]
because the moisture barrier has a water-like consistency
[249]
that once applied with a brush roller will just absorb most of the product.
[256]
That will be tedious.
[258]
So what we recommend is to use a spreader to fill the entire floor area.
[267]
Afterward, we will use the brush roller to make sure that the product is evenly spread.
[272]
Just a reminder with regards to roller brush, choose a roller brush that has short hair.
[279]
Please don't use the long-haired
[280]
because it tends to leave hair brushes on the floor.
[287]
That wouldn't look appealing and means redoing the whole process.
[292]
So make sure that you're buying a short-haired roller brush for the application of floor coating.
[297]
Meanwhile, we use this small brush for the corner or areas that rollers can't reach.
[304]
This one is another spreader
[306]
that is smaller for convenience when applying the corners.
[477]
That was it. Hopefully, you learned a lot
[480]
about applying the epoxy floor coating or Epocoat FC of Buildrite.
[485]
Hopefully, you could now differentiate when to use epoxy floor coating and tiles
[491]
and in which areas you can use the Epoxy floor coating.
