Apple's M1 Max MacBook Pro is in BIG Trouble.. - YouTube

[0]
for the past couple of months i've been
[1]
really enjoying my 16 inch m1 max
[3]
macbook pro for everything like snappy
[6]
web browsing on a daily basis the
[8]
incredible battery life that can last
[10]
days without needing a charge the
[12]
beautiful new mini led display for
[15]
watching shows and movies and of course
[17]
high performance for doing things like
[19]
photo editing in photoshop and video
[22]
editing in final cut pro but intel amd
[25]
and nvidia have been showing off new
[27]
processors and graphics chips at this
[30]
year's ces which will be going into new
[32]
laptops as soon as the end of this year
[35]
and from the looks of it apple's macbook
[37]
pro is gonna be seriously challenged on
[40]
every single front and even though the
[42]
m1 max is truly impressive for things
[44]
like video and photo editing programming
[47]
music production and more there are
[49]
still some areas where the m1 max just
[52]
isn't that great because of a lack of
[54]
proper software support take gaming for
[57]
example where the only optimized game
[59]
right out of the box is world of
[61]
warcraft which performs exceptionally
[64]
well when compared to a desktop rtx 3080
[67]
gpu but other than that the fps numbers
[70]
that we got in games that rely on
[72]
rosetta 2 translation and apps like
[74]
crossover 2.1 just weren't that
[77]
impressive and those are the games that
[79]
are actually supported since the latest
[82]
directx 12 api currently has zero
[85]
support with crossover and then if we
[88]
take a look at other things like raw
[89]
multi-threaded cpu performance and apps
[92]
like cinebench r23 amd's best 5900 hx
[97]
chip from last year is already right
[100]
there next to the 14 inch m1 max and
[102]
then going further looking at graphics
[104]
rendering performance the new blender
[107]
3.1 alpha build greatly improved
[109]
performance for many of the tests that
[111]
we ran
[112]
but the rtx 3080 within the razer blade
[116]
was still faster overall and it's even
[119]
worse for other rendering apps that
[121]
don't have decent support and to make
[123]
things worse intel amd and nvidia have
[126]
just unveiled some incredibly impressive
[129]
mobile chips that are gonna fly past
[131]
even the best version of the m1 max chip
[134]
so without further ado let's jump right
[137]
into some ces keynotes starting with
[140]
intel's our 12th gen h-series delivers
[143]
up to 40 percent higher performance than
[145]
our prior generation and there you go
[148]
they just unveiled the new 12th
[149]
generation mobile chips and these things
[152]
look promising look at that up to five
[154]
gigahertz clock speeds up to 14 cores
[157]
combining performance and efficiency
[159]
cores just like the m1 max is doing
[162]
these things are going to be very
[163]
powerful especially since they're saying
[165]
up to 40 percent higher performance gen
[168]
over gen and within their keynote intel
[171]
actually claimed that their new i9
[173]
processor is going to be faster than
[175]
apple's m1 max chip so check out this
[178]
chart right here you could see this is
[181]
basically a copy of what apple showed
[183]
off at their last event showing the m1
[186]
max having better performance per the
[189]
power that it uses better than the 5900
[191]
hx as you can see in that red line and
[193]
better than the last i9 11 980 hk and
[198]
you can see their new i-912 900 is above
[201]
and beyond what the m1 max can do which
[204]
is incredibly impressive and based on
[207]
this i fully believe when we actually
[209]
get them in our hands that those chips
[211]
are gonna have more raw performance than
[214]
the m1 max which is really disappointing
[216]
because with the m1 max chip it only got
[219]
better graphics performance instead of
[221]
better cpus now however the caveat is
[224]
that intel says that they'll use up to
[226]
115
[228]
watts of maximum power which is a ton
[232]
literally a ton of power as you can see
[234]
in this chart right here you can see
[236]
that a lot of these chips are using up
[238]
to 115
[240]
the i7s and the i9s the i5s actually go
[243]
up to 95 watts now keep in mind that
[247]
when we tested the m1 max ship the
[249]
maximum amount of power that it gave to
[251]
the cpu was 30 watts yes that's 30
[256]
instead of 115 so it kind of makes sense
[259]
why these alder like chips would be
[262]
faster and if you're wondering just how
[264]
much faster the new alder lakes are
[265]
going to be we already compared the m1
[267]
max 16 inch to the razer blade which had
[271]
the i9 11 900 h and in geekbench 5's
[275]
multi-core cpu test it scored up to 9300
[278]
points so the m1 max still had a good
[281]
lead but if you look over to how much
[283]
the top of the line 11 980 hk scored
[287]
that scored up to 10 000 points so if
[290]
you apply intel's 40 improvement we
[293]
should be getting around 14 000 which
[296]
will technically beat the m1 max and i'm
[299]
sure it'll do even better in cinebench
[301]
r23 so with that said i think there's a
[304]
pretty good chance that even some of
[306]
intel's i7 chips will be able to
[309]
outperform
[310]
the m1 max in terms of raw cpu
[313]
performance now that doesn't mean real
[315]
world performance and real task because
[317]
we are going to be testing that out as
[319]
soon as we get those new laptops so
[321]
definitely subscribe right now so you
[323]
don't miss out on those in-depth
[325]
comparisons but i guess we'll see and
[327]
finally intel did show off a new
[329]
technology which is very surprising
[332]
apparently they're going to be able to
[333]
integrate your iphone and your apple
[335]
watch with their new laptops and pcs so
[338]
you're essentially going to be able to
[340]
read your imessages through an intel
[343]
based pc which is very impressive and
[345]
one of the things that really
[346]
disappoints me about the new macbook pro
[348]
is that it does not support wi-fi 6e
[351]
which every single intel alder lake chip
[354]
is going to support so that's very
[356]
disappointing because i could have
[357]
bought a new wi-fi 6e router but i chose
[360]
wi-fi 6 instead because i just don't
[363]
have that on my macbook pro and the last
[365]
thing intel showed off was their new
[366]
deep link technology which basically
[368]
uses the integrated gpu within the alder
[371]
lake chip and the discrete intel arc
[374]
graphics chip together to improve
[377]
encoding speed by up to 1.4 times which
[380]
is actually very impressive so i guess
[382]
we'll see how that compares to the m1
[385]
max ship when we get our hands on those
[387]
and now let's move on to amd because
[389]
they also introduced some very
[391]
impressive laptop chips so let's listen
[394]
hey i'm proud to launch our amd ryzen
[396]
6000 series mobile 6000 series that
[399]
deliver leadership performance battery
[401]
life and much much more all right check
[403]
this out it's their zen 3 plus so it's
[406]
basically updated but the cool thing is
[408]
that it's on the new six nanometer
[410]
technology the new process node so it's
[412]
gonna be gaining in terms of efficiency
[414]
as well as performance with boost speeds
[417]
up to five gigahertz we're delivering an
[419]
average of 1.3 x faster performance
[422]
compared to the 5000 series now if you
[424]
didn't know how fast the amd chips were
[428]
check this out in terms of geekbench 5
[430]
the m1 max macbook pro was basically
[433]
killing the last top of the line 5900 hx
[437]
mobile chip that amd had so that's 12
[439]
600 compared to 9000 however if you
[443]
bring it into cinebench r23 you can see
[446]
right there that the 5900 hx is
[449]
literally right behind the m1 max in 100
[452]
cpu workloads now imagine adding 1.3
[457]
times to that number with the 6000
[459]
series yes it looks like it's gonna
[462]
destroy the m1 max chip and they might
[465]
even have some lower end models that are
[467]
going to be at the same level or even
[469]
outperform it so it's a little bit
[471]
disappointing that we don't have that
[473]
much cpu performance with the m1 max and
[476]
this right here is the real kicker amd
[479]
says that they're getting up to 24 hours
[482]
of battery life on a laptop now that's
[484]
probably using a laptop with a 99 watt
[487]
hour battery just like the 16 inch
[489]
macbook pro but it's because of the new
[492]
six nanometer process technology they
[494]
have the new power management they have
[495]
the new adaptive power control so
[498]
basically with all that said they say
[500]
they're getting up to that much now i'd
[502]
have to see it to believe it because we
[504]
tested the previous razer blade and it
[506]
had a horrible battery life so i guess
[509]
we'll have to test it out and see and
[511]
now getting to the next section they
[512]
have their new amd apus which is
[515]
basically a cpu with an integrated gpu
[518]
but here they're showing off their new
[520]
amd rd and a2 graphics architecture and
[523]
here you can see some pretty massive
[525]
gains in terms of fps compared to the
[529]
previous chips like the 1165 g7 which
[532]
goes into smaller 13-inch laptops look
[535]
at that 303 percent more fps and doom
[538]
eternal and a more popular title which
[541]
is cs go 146
[543]
so this basically shows that they're
[545]
gonna have actual competitive laptops
[548]
without dedicated graphics that you
[550]
could actually play games with and the
[552]
best part is that you have decent gaming
[554]
support with windows 11 instead of the
[557]
crappy situation with mac os where you
[559]
don't have that many games that are
[560]
supported and right here they're showing
[562]
off some new specs like for example they
[564]
got gen 4 pci express usb4 but as you
[568]
can see they have wi-fi 6e just like
[570]
intel and bluetooth low energy 5.2
[574]
compared to this macbook pro which just
[576]
has 5.0 which is also something that's
[579]
disappointing of course you have ddr5 on
[583]
those new chips and they also have hdmi
[586]
2.1 which the macbook pro does not have
[589]
unfortunately and apparently they also
[591]
have an av1 media engine which is also
[594]
nice for the windows side and finally
[597]
this slide is showing off that they're
[598]
gonna have these new chips into
[601]
notebooks or laptops starting february
[604]
so next month we're going to be getting
[606]
in these new laptops and comparing them
[609]
to this 16-inch macbook pro and now with
[612]
that said let's finally finish off with
[614]
nvidia's keynote and here they're
[616]
showing off a new rtx 3080 ti mobile
[621]
chip for laptops and this looks
[624]
absolutely insane basically the fastest
[627]
graphics in laptops ever and i fully
[630]
believe it's gonna outperform the m1 max
[632]
like crazy especially since they're
[634]
showing off up to 16 gigs of the fastest
[637]
gddr6 vram which is going to be very
[639]
impressive and what's blowing my mind is
[642]
that those laptops are going to start at
[644]
2500
[646]
which is exactly what this 16 inch
[648]
macbook pro starts at but that's without
[651]
the m1 max chip you actually have to pay
[654]
more especially if you want the fully
[656]
loaded you're paying 3 500
[659]
and then going further they showed off
[660]
the 3070 ti starting at only 1500 and
[664]
there's a chance that that chip is also
[667]
going to outperform the m1 max in terms
[669]
of graphics rendering and gaming and
[671]
other tasks like that which is crazy
[673]
like these guys are coming back with so
[675]
much performance at such a great value
[678]
it's just so impressive and one thing
[680]
that blew my mind was this chart in
[682]
terms of graphics rendering apps and
[685]
here they are showing off some massive
[687]
performance gains compared to a m1 max
[690]
macbook pro 16 inch like for example
[694]
blender cycles they're showing 10
[696]
compared to
[698]
153 in terms of minutes now obviously
[702]
that does not make sense and that's with
[704]
the blender cycles that does not support
[706]
the gpu that's actually cpu based and as
[709]
we know the new alpha build 3.1 of
[712]
blender finally supports it and it
[714]
definitely sped it up for us so you
[716]
shouldn't rely on this chart because
[718]
it's not showing the new alpha version
[721]
but i think what's the most accurate is
[723]
to look at redshift because redshift is
[725]
what apple used in their charts when
[727]
they showed off the m1 max ship so here
[729]
you can see 10 minutes instead of 28
[732]
that's almost three times faster and i
[734]
fully believe that this is realistic and
[737]
these chips are gonna be that much
[739]
faster than the macbook pro for graphics
[743]
rendering like that with that said i'm
[745]
very impressed with intel's nvidia's and
[747]
amd's ces keynotes because they're
[750]
showing off some very impressive gains
[753]
gains that i was not expecting at all so
[756]
this is very impressive and i'm excited
[758]
to get those in my hands so if you have
[760]
any thoughts on those keynotes or those
[762]
new chips definitely comment them down
[764]
below and if you're not already
[765]
subscribed do so right now because you
[767]
don't want to miss out on those laptop
[769]
comparisons compared to the m1 max so
[772]
thank you guys for watching check out
[773]
one of those two videos right there and
[775]
we'll see you in the next video
