Channel: Kevin Tacher Florida Real Estate

[2]
- What?
[3]
What do you want?
[5]
Is Someone Watching You?
[7]
On this episode of Title Tuesday's.
[10]
(upbeat music)
[24]
Hey everybody
[24]
welcome back to another episode of Title Tuesday's
[26]
my name's Kevin Tacher
[28]
the founder and CEO here at Independence Title
[31]
also known as your title king.
[32]
Are you wondering who is this person
[35]
that is looking over my shoulder?
[38]
That's called a hacker,
[39]
that is a real estate specialist
[42]
that is looking to get your money.
[44]
On this episode of Title Tuesday's
[46]
I'm gonna do another episode talking about fraud,
[49]
talking about who is watching what you're doing
[52]
and what can you do about it.
[53]
You know we are experts in our industry
[55]
and we are even open to attack by cyber crimes
[59]
but we have a lot of measures in place
[60]
we do cyber training for our employees,
[62]
we have cyber liability insurance
[65]
and most important what I wanna talk about is your email.
[69]
When you are using email services like Gmail,
[71]
AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, you need to be very very careful.
[77]
For less than $15 a year you can register your own domain
[81]
and have your own email address
[83]
and then you can switch over to a platform
[85]
like Google business which is going to give you
[88]
what's called 2-step authentication
[91]
and even some of your Gmail apps
[93]
I'm not sure if some of the others do it
[95]
you can activate 2-step authentication.
[98]
What does that mean?
[100]
That means that this guy looking over my shoulder
[103]
will have no access to your email
[106]
without getting a special code to your cell phone.
[108]
So many of you log into your email
[110]
some of you save your password,
[112]
you save it on your web browsers
[114]
so all you have to do is just go to gmail.com
[116]
and it automatically logs you in to your email address.
[119]
That is a hackers gold mine,
[123]
that hacker can get access to your computer
[125]
by clicking on what's called the phishing link
[127]
and they can get access to all of your contacts
[129]
all of your emails then what they do is
[131]
you've seen the video that we've put out
[133]
that's in the bottom of our email signature,
[135]
it's called phishing,
[136]
they watch, they phish your email,
[138]
they watch your email,
[139]
they see that you're doing the real estate transaction
[142]
and right before they know you're getting ready
[144]
to go to the bank they send you fake wiring instructions
[147]
as if they were the title company or your real estate agent
[151]
and then you as a consumer will fall for it
[154]
wire the money to them and your money is now gone.
[158]
So as I said, do you wanna give this guy that money?
[162]
I don't think so, it's not a smart idea
[165]
so you wanna incorporate
[167]
what's called 2-step authentication in your email.
[170]
What is that mean?
[172]
You're gonna go to your website
[173]
you're gonna look to sign in to your email address
[175]
and then it's going to prompt you to enter
[178]
a certain digit code
[180]
that is texted to your cell phone that's on file,
[183]
that means that if they don't have access to your cell phone
[187]
they are not going to get that code to be able to log in
[189]
so they may have your email password
[191]
but they will not be able to get to the second step
[195]
which is why it's called 2-step authentication.
[197]
Here at the office what we do
[198]
is you have to log in using your password to your email
[202]
and then you have to receive a code
[204]
and only if you're siting in our office
[207]
under our IP address that we allow you access
[209]
without entering the code for a certain couple of days
[212]
and then you have to reenter it again,
[214]
but if our staff were to try to access the email
[217]
if they were on WiFi at a Starbucks
[220]
or if they were at their home
[221]
they would have to enter the 2-step authentication code
[225]
so nobody can get access to our emails.
[228]
It's very very important, this is a serious topic
[231]
it is in the billions,
[233]
that's right folks billions of dollars in money
[237]
and wire fraud that title companies have gotten hit for
[240]
and buyers and sellers have gotten hit for
[243]
for fraudulent wiring instructions.
[245]
And those of you that are our clients
[246]
you know we send you the wiring instructions
[249]
there's some information missing on that
[251]
and you have to follow certain steps
[253]
in order to get that information
[254]
so we make it a little bit of a puzzle
[256]
so you can put the pieces together
[258]
and get the money to our office safely and securely.
[262]
So thanks for watching this episode of Title Tuesday's
[265]

[276]
