[16]
the key features of penny stocks what
[18]
are the potential rewards of investing
[19]
in penny stocks but more importantly
[21]
what is the risk associated with
[23]
investing in penny stocks and finally
[24]
i'll conclude but before i go ahead with

[38]
[Music]
[43]
what are penny stocks penny stocks are
[44]
those stocks that have a low absolute
[46]
price in u.s the security and exchange
[49]
coming in commission sec specifies that
[51]
the stocks of the share price of less
[52]
than five dollars are known as penny
[54]
stocks however in india there is no
[56]
exact definition as such generally any
[58]
stock which is quoted at less than 10
[60]
rupees in india is considered a penny
[61]
stock but let's look at some key
[63]
features of a penny stocks how do you
[64]
identify a penny stock one as i said is
[67]
the low price investors often confuse
[69]
price and valuation i'm talking about
[70]
low price anything trading at less than
[72]
10 rupees need not be a bargain people
[75]
think 10 rupees i will buy and it'll
[77]
become 100 rupees in the future that's
[78]
not the case the underlying business may
[80]
or may not be worth 10 rupees a share so
[82]
remember there's a famous quote by the
[84]
father of value investing benjamin
[86]
graham price is what you pay value is
[88]
what you get right so look at the value
[90]
uh look at the price and see if both of
[92]
them match only then figure out whether
[93]
you need to buy or not another key
[95]
characteristics right about penny stocks
[97]
is low market capitalization penny
[99]
stocks are tiny companies that have not
[101]
yet proven themselves with their
[102]
earnings potential their companies that
[104]
still need to prove themselves and
[105]
become big so sometimes a company that
[106]
has doing pretty well in the past may
[108]
also become a penny stock because the
[110]
whole business would have changed
[111]
drastically now another characteristics
[113]
we've seen is illiquidity now
[115]
institutions and large investors usually
[117]
stay away from penny stocks even retail
[119]
investors sometimes stay away from this
[120]
so the average trading volume is very
[122]
less and few people have large ownership
[124]
of a market float now this becomes a
[126]
problem also and penny stocks are very
[128]
speculative right that speculative means
[130]
i am assuming that it will go up the
[132]
stocks are illiquid which offers a lot
[134]
of concerns for huge investors and also
[137]
speculation kicks in volatility of the
[138]
price movement kicks into a lot of
[140]
different problems about that but it's
[141]
okay these are characteristics of a
[143]
penny stocks but what are the potential
[144]
rewards of investing in penny stocks and
[146]
who goes there what can we do here it is
[148]
very good for beginners right if you
[150]
don't understand if you just want to
[151]
know how to buy or sell penny stocks are
[153]
very cheap 5 rupees 6 rupees 7 rupees so
[155]
you can put a few rupees and then see
[157]
how it works but again it's very liquid
[158]
so i wouldn't suggest that so much uh
[160]
it's not capital intensive as i said you
[162]
don't have to spend thousand rupees you
[163]
can start with 20 rupees or 50 rupees
[165]
and actually try uh buying stocks and
[167]
even with a few thousand rupees you can
[169]
have 10 to 15 penny stocks in your
[170]
portfolio also the advantage here is the
[173]
potential of high resin so if it
[174]
actually works out if there is some
[176]
merit in the business and the business
[177]
gonna do well and suddenly there's a
[179]
turnaround the stock can give mad amount
[181]
of returns right for example symphony
[183]
and weber global were penny stocks in
[185]
2019 have gone up by 100 times in these
[187]
levels so you can always look at that
[189]
from that perspective but again
[191]
underlying business value is important
[193]
now what are the risks associated we
[194]
can't look at the good things we have to
[196]
also look at the bad things the risk
[198]
here is
[199]
it is tiny unproven beaten down
[202]
companies right they have not proved
[203]
themselves the odds of this company
[205]
doing well is already bad right you're
[207]
playing against the odds and penny
[209]
stocks are very very very low so low
[210]
right with respect to market cap and
[212]
price because nobody wants to buy them
[213]
so it is possible turnaround will turn
[216]
sometimes turnaround happens and it goes
[218]
up but just be aware of how this entire
[220]
system works right now another problem
[222]
here is i don't know whether you've
[223]
heard of this system called pump or dump
[225]
right a lot of operators play this game
[226]
because the stocks are illiquid it is
[228]
very easy for anyone with a little bit
[230]
of capital to come and corner the market
[232]
uh with some lot of shares right if
[234]
there's a stock that's not trading much
[235]
if i come and put a one crore order i'll
[236]
take so much so many amount of shares
[238]
from the market because each share is
[239]
trading at 910 rupees and then i can
[241]
manipulate the entire thing showing an
[244]
artificial pump and then all of you guys
[245]
will buy and then i can dump the things
[247]
so this is something that a lot of
[248]
people do so don't get caught in this
[250]
pump and dump scheme another thing is
[251]
here is illiquidity now i said
[253]
illiquidity is there but it's also
[254]
double its sword right it can has it has
[256]
its pros but it also has its cons
[258]
sometimes if it can work for your
[260]
advantage because if you pick the right
[261]
business that means demand is more and
[263]
there's no liquid stocks so the price
[265]
will keep going up right on the flip
[267]
side it can work against you if you
[268]
choose the long wrong business why
[270]
because if you're selling and nobody's
[272]
buying then you will keep hitting lower
[274]
circuits a lot and if it keeps hitting
[275]
lower circuits a lot and there's no
[277]
buyers you'll have a massive issue after
[278]
that so that is also another issue now
[281]
finally concluding this making money
[283]
through penny stocks is definitely
[284]
possible but you should definitely
[287]
understand the risks that are involved
[288]
in this right should i invest in penny
[290]
stocks is a wrong question to ask a
[292]
better question to ask is which stock
[293]
should i invest to protect my capital
[295]
and also earn a decent amount of return
[297]
in the future now if it doesn't matter
[300]
whether the stocks you invest in a penny
[301]
stock or not look at the fundamentals of
[303]
the stock and see if it has a future
[304]
growth potential only if these two match
[307]
then you can start investing in stocks
[309]
okay great
[310]
now this brings us to the end of this
[312]
video and i told you a quick
[314]
