charles payne host of making money on
[2]
fox businesses here charles we have an
[4]
economy that's sagging inflation that's
[7]
raging and an american people who are in
[10]
pain regardless of how you look at it
[12]
yeah and you know listen
[14]
the white house is really hurting
[15]
themselves
[16]
tremendously uh by telling people don't
[18]
worry about how you feel this is how
[20]
you're supposed to feel i think jared
[22]
bernstein was half right though yeah we
[23]
have the headwinds of inflation but we
[25]
don't have those tail ones he's talking
[26]
about you know that strong consumer that
[28]
consumer spending number
[30]
i'm still going through the historic
[31]
data i didn't get back to where it was
[33]
last quarter at 1.8 percent that was the
[35]
lowest since the fourth quarter 2019
[38]
business investments not what it was and
[40]
it's coming down really dramatically and
[42]
i got to tell you digging we are going
[43]
to get a jobs report real soon in the
[45]
next month or two that's going to be
[47]
dramatic it's going to be it's going to
[48]
fall off of a cliff because all the
[51]
signs are there the tick up and initial
[53]
jobless claims and some of these other
[54]
reports it's right there and as far as
[56]
the unemployment rate let's stop using
[58]
that when people drop out of the labor
[60]
force and the unemployment rate goes
[62]
down that does not reflect a healthy
[64]
jobs market in fact just the opposite
[65]
you know what's ironic in this last jobs
[68]
report no one wanted to talk about the
[70]
fact that a quarter of a million black
[71]
americans dropped out to labor force and
[73]
166 000 lost their jobs real people in
[76]
this economy are getting crushed at this
[78]
very moment and we need real answers no
[80]
more no more public relations except
[83]
what's happening so maybe we can deal
[85]
with it kevin hassett this morning said
[87]
stop the propaganda coming out of the
[89]
white house and the bite administration
[91]
will of course work in all week to
[94]
redefine what a recession recession is
[96]
downplay it uh fed chief jay powell
[99]
yesterday said this
[102]
so the fed doesn't make it doesn't make
[104]
a judgment on that you know we're we
[106]
don't
[106]
we don't say there is now a recession
[108]
that kind of thing so that if you think
[110]
about what what
[111]
what an inflation what sorry what a
[113]
recession really is it's a broad-based
[115]
decline across many industries
[117]
that um
[118]
you know that sustained for more than a
[120]
couple of months and what we have right
[121]
now doesn't seem like that and
[123]
the clown car of spin
[126]
is chock full of them listen to this
[129]
how worried should americans be
[132]
that we could be in a recession
[135]
we're not gonna be in a recession
[137]
this is not an economy that's in
[140]
recession we're not in a recession or in
[142]
a pre-recession at this time the data
[144]
over the second quarter is not
[146]
consistent with an economy in recession
[148]
uh the evidence is strong we're not in a
[151]
recessionary period and if things are
[153]
going so great though then why is it the
[155]
white house officials are trying to
[156]
redefine
[158]
recession no we're not redefining
[159]
recession
[161]
there's an op-ed in the wall street
[162]
journal calling out the semantics with a
[164]
headline a recession by any other name
[167]
yeah and it says this quote the biden
[169]
administration appears to be preparing
[171]
for a recession or rather for news of
[173]
one rather than tackling the underlying
[175]
economic problems the white house is
[177]
playing word games i call it a sentence
[181]
goulash
[182]
that they keep putting together again
[184]
it's unfortunate one of the uh clips uh
[186]
someone said that the second quarter of
[188]
data doesn't suggest we're in a
[190]
recession it actually suggests we're in
[192]
a depression uh you know digging new
[194]
home sales a couple came out two days
[196]
ago
[197]
average home prices are down over one
[198]
hundred thousand dollars in just two
[200]
months from april uh from april to june
[203]
uh almost every economic data point that
[205]
came out it didn't miss most of these
[207]
things didn't just simply miss wall
[208]
street consensus they missed by a
[210]
country mile i would be very very afraid
[214]
about you know worrying too much about
[215]
this recession talk
[217]
because a lot of folks are going to soon
[218]
be talking about depression talk let's
[220]
figure out how to fix it and by the way
[222]
stoking this thing with more money it's
[224]
how we got here in the first place they
[226]
need to stop forgetting about the
[227]
so-called political wins ahead of the
[228]
midterm elections and have a win for all
[231]
of americans once and for all
[233]
charles the win comes in the form of
[237]
again it reduces our standard of living
[239]
it eats into our wages we're
[242]
fighting inflation
[243]
real incomes are down 12 percent from a
[246]
year ago i think that's the biggest drop
[248]
on record according to stephanie pomboy
[250]
and what the democrats have done and
[252]
even some republicans is with this
[255]
chip's bill that 17 republicans signed
[258]
on to include and then this mansion
[261]
schumer spending package you combine
[263]
those two that is more than 700 billion
[266]
dollars and i'm being conservative
[269]
seven hundred billion dollars in
[270]
additional spending so what the
[272]
democrats and some republicans are doing
[274]
is spending money at a time which makes
[278]
the fight against inflation harder for
[280]
the federal reserve and which will
[282]
exacerbate this recession that we're
[285]
already in
[286]
you know i gotta i gotta tell you it
[288]
looks like uh mitch mcconnell got played
[291]
big time uh you know all these
[293]
republicans who went in thinking okay we
[296]
can vote on corporate welfare because
[298]
reconciliation's off the table tax hacks
[300]
are off the table and less than 24 hours
[302]
after they uh you know said okay to that
[305]
then we get senator manchin making his
[307]
flip-flop
[308]
you wonder how much of this was already
[309]
orchestrated but they really look real
[311]
dumb right now the republicans
[313]
who who who voted for this and and and i
[315]
got to tell you it's
[317]
it just doesn't work i mean
[318]
unfortunately we're finding out the hard
[320]
way that this free money policies don't
[322]
work and i wish they would all stop
[325]
uh 17 republicans voted for that
[327]
semiconductor uh enrichment only two of
[330]
them are up for re election
[333]
re-election in november it kind of tells
[335]
you the pickle that the other 15 have
[338]
put republicans in i'm going to ask tom
[340]
cotton the senator about whether mitch
[342]
mcconnell did get conned whether mitch
[344]
mcconnell did get duke charles payne
[346]
thank you so much okay
