[34]
- Hey, everyone! What's up?
[35]
Welcome back to my channel.
[37]
If you don't know who I am, I'm Bukola,
[38]
a developer advocate working
at a big tech company
[41]
and I'm gonna be showing
you what a couple days look
[43]
like in my life.
[44]
So for today, we're gonna
be working from home
[46]
and then tomorrow we're gonna
be working in the office
[49]
so I hope you enjoy this video.
[50]
Sorry, everyone that I've been kind of MIA
[52]
for the past couple days.
[54]
I've just been dealing
with a lot of things
[55]
and I needed to take a little bit
[56]
of a break for my mental health
[58]
but now we are back and we are consistent,
[60]
so in the comments, let me know what type
[61]
of videos you'd like to see from me.
[63]
But for this video,
[64]
I'll be showing you what
a typical workday looks
[65]
like for me.
[66]
Don't forget to follow me
[67]
on my TikTok and also on Instagram
[70]
and let's get started with the work day.
[73]
(mellow music)
[92]
Okay, so what am I working on today?
[94]
Basically, I'm doing this new series,
[96]
where I'm teaching
developers who program in Go,
[99]
how Google Cloud can be great for them
[101]
and all the different ways
[102]
they can basically use Google
Cloud as Go developers.
[105]
And with all these things,
[106]
the first thing I need to do,
[107]
the first thing I need to
do is read the documentation
[110]
that already exists before
writing the scripts.
[113]
Then later today, I'm gonna meet
[114]
with the PM on this video series,
[116]
who's the one wants
these videos to be done.
[118]
And yeah, so we're starting
first with the documentation.
[121]
The cool thing is
[121]
like Google Cloud has so
much good documentation.
[124]
So basically, I usually
spend a couple days reading
[127]
through the documentation
[128]
and seeing how I can basically turn a lot
[131]
of the documentation into video form.
[132]
That's like the low key version
[134]
about basically the job I do.
[136]
Read the documentation, make
the documentation into videos
[139]
so that people can access the information
[141]
in a different way.
[142]
Before we can even read anything,
[144]
we have to make sure we have
the essentials, ice cream.
[147]
We need to insert some joy
[149]
before you start reading
boring documentation.
[151]

[177]

[179]
(mellow music)
[209]
(uplifting music)
[223]
Before you wrap up the day,
[224]
I thought it would be interesting to talk
[226]
about an exciting topic.
[228]
Oh my God, I'm so scared
to talk about this topic,
[230]
which is the tech layoffs
and hiring freezes
[233]
that have been happening recently.
[234]
If you're not familiar with
what's going on in the world,
[237]
because you prioritize your mental health
[239]
so you're not even looking at the news,
[240]
I wish that was me too.
[242]
Right now, there are a lot of companies,
[243]
mostly startups and companies that grew
[245]
during the pandemic that
have been doing layoffs.
[248]
Companies like Coinbase.
[250]
I think Netflix had layoffs.
[251]
Zoom had layoffs, basically,
a ton of companies
[254]
from small companies
[255]
to large bank companies
are laying off employees.
[258]
It's not even the tech
layoffs that are scaring me,
[260]
it's the hiring freezes that
have been happening in tech.
[263]
Big tech companies are afraid
of an upcoming recession.
[267]
So, even though they have enough money,
[269]
like, these companies
have billions of dollars,
[271]
they're still doing hiring freezes.
[272]
I think Google has a hiring freeze
[274]
that was announced recently.
[276]
Meta has a hiring freeze
[277]
and I'm gonna keep it real with you guys,
[279]
it's making me a little bit
nervous because it feels
[281]
like a recession might actually
happen later this year.
[285]
I'm just here to say
that I'm also stressed,
[287]
I'm also freaking out right now as well,
[289]
you're not alone. (laughs)
[290]
I'm laughing because I'm scared,
[293]
but let me just talk
about how I'm preparing
[294]
for this upcoming recession.
[296]
Of course, you know, you gotta stay ready
[298]
so you don't have to get ready.
[299]
God forbid, they lay you off.
[301]
So what I'm doing is, you know
I'm keeping my resume fresh,
[305]
keeping my LinkedIn fresh,
keeping my website fresh,
[308]
just in case anything happens.
[310]
I'm also definitely like,
[311]
on the more personal finance aspect,
[313]
I'm trying to increase my emergency fund,
[315]
because, you know, if
there is a recession,
[317]
I would like to have at least
a year's worth of saving.
[319]
So I've been, you know,
[320]
cutting back on my more material girl ways
[323]
and directing more money into my savings.
[325]
I'm also still investing
in the stock market
[328]
because stocks right now
are at a huge discount
[330]
so I'm still investing.
[331]
All I have to say is, I
don't have any advice.
[333]
I was gonna talk about how
maybe think we're still safe,
[336]
but at this point I am scared.
[337]
I'm scared.
[338]
We'll see what happens,
[339]
like, I'll be walking through
this ride of a journey.
[343]
So, we'll see what happens.
[345]
(mellow music)
(keyboard clicking)
[358]
I'm getting ready to go
into the office today.
[360]
It's about nine o'clock.
[361]
I'm gonna get into the
office, probably like 11.
[363]
Let me also show you
my fit for the office.
[365]
I'm wearing like, you know, casual pants.
[367]
I dunno if you guys can
see them, I'm wearing a,
[369]
you know this top, I wear
this top like all the time.
[372]
I'm getting ready to go
into the office today
[374]
and I'll show you what working
in the office looks like.
[376]
So I do actually prefer working
[377]
from home,
(mellow music)
[378]
even though the office
is extremely beautiful,
[380]
because I'm not a big fan of commuting.
[382]
So I typically go in only
for team bonding activities
[385]
or when I'm getting lunch with someone,
[387]
which is why I'm going in today is
[388]
because we have a team bonding
event on Little Island.
[391]
And this is what a typical
workday in the office looks like.
