welcome to our second news based video
[12]
covering airbus boeing and other plane
[14]
makers as always if you want to check
[17]
out other videos covering recent
[19]
aviation news you'll find them in our
[21]
playlist titled news summaries but with
[24]
that out of the way let's look at
[26]
manufacturer news that has taken place
[28]
in the last few weeks
[31]
well although we aim to make this a
[32]
monthly update a lot has happened since
[35]
our last video on aircraft manufacturers
[38]
the main reason for this is the 2021
[40]
dubai air show which took place in the
[42]
middle of november
[44]
a typical venue for big order
[46]
announcements let's first run through
[48]
this major event and how the big two
[50]
plane makers performed
[52]
airbus stole the show in terms of the
[54]
number of aircraft deals clocking orders
[56]
for over 400 jets at the first major
[59]
aviation event since the covert 19
[61]
pandemic hit
[63]
it was looking as though there would be
[64]
no significant orders on the first day
[66]
of the show but with an hour of
[68]
activities remaining indigo partners
[70]
revealed an order for 255
[73]
jets this will see a321 neos and a321
[77]
xlrs go to the company's airlines whiz
[80]
air frontier volaris and jet smart
[84]
on the second day leasing company alc
[87]
signed an order for 111 aircraft which
[90]
included seven a350 freighters
[93]
this made the firm the first official
[95]
customer of airbus newest purpose-built
[98]
freighter
[99]
the last commercial aircraft orders were
[101]
placed on the show's third day with
[104]
jazeera airways committing to 28 a321
[107]
neos while nigeria's ibom air firmed up
[110]
an order for 10
[112]
a-220s while airbus stole the show with
[115]
orders boeing's triple 7x got plenty of
[118]
attention as it made its first public
[120]
appearance while it was undoubtedly the
[123]
centre of attention boeing didn't manage
[125]
to book any new orders for its newest
[128]
aircraft
[129]
at the show boeing's orders had more of
[131]
a cargo focus on the show's first day
[134]
ice lease placed an order for 11
[136]
converted 737 800 craters this was
[139]
followed by dhl express ordering nine
[142]
seven six seven three hundred converted
[144]
freighters the next day
[146]
the second day also saw emirates order
[148]
two new boeing triple seven freighters
[151]
though airline president tim clark later
[153]
revealed that he would have liked more
[155]
jets saying we're trying to get a hold
[158]
of more boeing can't actually give us
[160]
them
[161]
the american manufacturer then booked a
[163]
few more orders on the third day of the
[165]
show with sky one fcd purchasing three
[168]
triple seven three hundreds in the
[170]
morning air tanzania then announced it
[173]
would be ordering a 787 dreamliner a 767
[176]
freighter and two boeing 737 max
[179]
aircraft
[181]
finally the manufacturer scored big on
[183]
the show's last day with indian startup
[185]
akasa air ordering a whopping 72 737 max
[190]
aircraft
[192]
adding up all the orders mentioned put
[194]
airbus in the lead with 404 commercial
[197]
aircraft orders while boeing was further
[200]
behind with orders for 101 planes
[204]
days after the conclusion of the air
[206]
show airbus obtained its second order
[208]
for the a350 freighter via the cma-cg
[212]
group a company focused on shipping and
[214]
logistics the cargo-focused firm signed
[217]
a binding memorandum of understanding or
[220]
mou to purchase four of the next
[222]
generation twin-jet freighters
[226]
while the engineers at airbus and boeing
[228]
are hard at work developing full-size
[230]
commercial aircraft you can learn to
[232]
build your own smaller aircraft with
[234]
some classes on skillshare
[236]
for example jarya miller has a class
[239]
that teaches you how to build your own
[240]
remote controlled airplane which
[242]
includes resources like pdf plans and
[245]
even a guide on where to buy your parts
[248]
for aviation enthusiasts who prefer to
[250]
build aircraft in a more virtual setting
[253]
there's a class that teaches you how to
[255]
model the full body of an airplane in
[257]
katia
[258]
this class is perfect for anyone
[261]

[308]
in the last bit of airbus related news
[311]
recent reporting by reuters suggests
[313]
that the surface degradation issues with
[315]
the a350 experienced by qatar airways
[318]
may go further than previously thought
[321]
while some had speculated that the
[323]
degradation of the paint surface had
[324]
been a consequence of the severe desert
[326]
heat in doha investigations revealed
[329]
that it is much more widespread and
[331]
likely unrelated to heat
[334]
perusing a private maintenance message
[336]
board used by airbus and a350 operators
[339]
reuters has discovered at least five
[341]
other airlines reporting deterioration
[343]
of the painted surface on the a350 the
[346]
publication identified finn air cathay
[349]
pacific etiad lufthansa and air france
[352]
on behalf of air carribas as all raising
[355]
concerns about the issue
[357]
according to the investigation thin air
[360]
cafe and lufthansa have all cited some
[363]
quote-unquote cosmetic damage on their
[365]
a350s
[367]
in messages on the board finnair who was
[369]
europe's first a350 operator reported
[372]
paint damage just a year after taking
[375]
its first a350
[377]
cathay pacific reported similar problems
[379]
just weeks later and in one post said
[382]
the issue had been found on an a350 just
[385]
two weeks after taking delivery
[388]
the precise issue with the paint work on
[390]
the a350s has been closely guarded but
[393]
more details are beginning to emerge
[395]
airbus describes the problem as quote
[397]
unquote early surface wear which in some
[400]
cases has led to the lightning mesh
[402]
under the surface becoming exposed it's
[405]
not exactly an unsafe condition with the
[408]
affected airlines agreeing that it is a
[410]
cosmetic problem rather than a safety
[412]
concern
[413]
however a source told reuters that for
[416]
qatar airways and at least one other
[418]
airline the wear had become so great
[420]
that the mesh itself had begun to
[422]
develop gaps this would leave the carbon
[425]
composite fuselage exposed to the
[427]
elements and could eventually lead to
[429]
more serious damage
[432]
elaborating on more boeing news it seems
[435]
as though the plane maker is aware that
[437]
airlines do indeed want the triple 7x
[439]
freighter perhaps even more than the
[442]
shorter triple 7x passenger variant the
[444]
triple seven eight at a round table
[447]
briefing ahead of the dubai air show
[449]
boeing's vice president commercial sales
[452]
and marketing isani munir commented the
[455]
triple seven eight is an airplane that
[457]
is part of the family we've always
[459]
looked at it as the second or third in
[461]
the family in terms of when it comes to
[462]
market second to the triple seven nine
[465]
potentially third if we do the freighter
[468]
we don't know
[469]
boeing has shifted much of its attention
[471]
and focus to the cargo and freight
[473]
market indeed elaborating on the
[476]
announcements made at the dubai air show
[478]
the plane maker is set to open a new
[480]
freighter conversion line at its
[482]
existing london gatwick airport facility
[485]
opening next year the new line will see
[487]
the total number of employees at the
[489]
facility rise to
[491]
the u.s plane maker will also open two
[494]
further conversion lines in kelowna
[496]
canada a year later in 2023
[500]
then as we mentioned in a main channel
[502]
simple flying video leaders of the u.s
[504]
house transportation and infrastructure
[506]
committee have requested a government
[508]
review into the federal aviation
[510]
administration or faa oversight of the
[513]
production of boeing's 787 dreamliner
[516]
representatives stated the following in
[518]
a letter to u.s inspector general soskin
[521]
we are writing to request that the
[523]
department of transportation's office of
[525]
inspector general conduct a review of
[527]
the faa's oversight to the manufacture
[530]
and production of the boeing 787 we
[533]
request that your office evaluate
[535]
whether the faa's existing inspection
[537]
program is sufficient to identify
[540]
production issues involving the 787
[544]
the inspector general will be asked to
[546]
determine whether the faa has enough
[548]
inspectors whether it performs enough
[550]
inspections and whether it has
[552]
appropriate processes in place to
[554]
identify production issues
[557]
at the time of making this video boeing
[559]
787 deliveries remain suspended
[563]
stealing a lot less of the spotlight at
[565]
the dubai air show three embraer e175s
[569]
were ordered on a firm basis by nigerian
[572]
operator overland airways an additional
[575]
three of the same are reserved as
[577]
options
[578]
a deal worth
[580]
299.4 million dollars at list prices if
[583]
options are exercised these aircraft
[586]
will be delivered with a premium class
[588]
cabin configuration and 88 seats from
[591]
2023
[593]
the e175 is embraer's smallest of the
[596]
ejet family the jet has proven itself
[598]
popular during the pandemic offering
[601]
incredible efficiency and the right
[602]
level of capacity for the depressed
[604]
market size
[606]
the other piece of embraer news had to
[608]
do with canadian carrier porter airlines
[610]
as it announced the finalization of a
[612]
sale and leaseback of up to 19
[615]
e-195e2 jets the north american e-2
[618]
launch customer porter is looking to
[621]
take delivery of these new units between
[623]
2022 and 2023
[626]
and finally while no big news has come
[629]
from china and comac in recent weeks we
[631]
did hear from an executive at rostec
[633]
about the ongoing delays to russia's
[636]
mc21 programme
[638]
the programme was stunted due to
[640]
sanctions imposed by the u.s on supply
[642]
of parts and materials to russia
[645]
victor kladov head of international
[647]
corporation and regional policy at
[649]
rostec told simple flying that the firm
[652]
had planned to go into serial production
[653]
of the mc21 in 2019 however america
[657]
placed sanctions on a small company that
[660]
supplied composite thread to the
[661]
manufacturer saying the thread is used
[664]
to make the composite wing so it was a
[666]
very unfair blow at the last moment
[669]
because we were dependent on this
[670]
composite material this delayed the
[673]
whole program by almost two years
[676]
prior to sanctions erka was importing
[678]
all the resin it needed for
[679]
manufacturing however with no imports
[682]
available russia was forced to invest in
[684]
its own composite manufacturing
[686]
capabilities kladov notes that
[689]
investments were made into russian r d
[691]
and a plant has been set up to produce
[694]
100 russian-made composite material
[697]
indeed russia was also able to produce
[699]
its own engine in the form of the pd14
[703]
it taught us a lesson clad off notes a
[706]
lesson that you cannot be entirely 100
[709]
dependent because you never know what
[711]
happens next in this turbulent world
[714]
well as usual we weren't able to cover
[717]

[719]
much detail as we would have liked but
