How to accept payments on Squarespace - YouTube

I am Katherine Forbes, founder of  designing the row, a Squarespace  

website design agency to help create a, to  get seen and heard online in today's video. 

We're going to talk about, as you can see how  to accept payments on your Squarespace website.  

And I've got a little list over here  of what we're going to talk about. 

First, we're going to talk about the  options of the payment processors that  

you can connect to Squarespace. We're going  to talk about the fees that you might have. 

If you run your store through Squarespace, we're  going to talk about exactly how to connect these  

payment processors, and then I'll show you how  to actually get that money from your orders on  

your website to your bank account. So let's dive in on the options,  

the options of the payment processors. You can  connect to Squarespace or Stripe and PayPal. 

If you connect Stripe, you can have the option  to toggle on apple pay. And if you do PayPal,  

you can let your customers check out  through Venmo, but only on mobile. 

So that's the quick and easy part. Now let's talk  about the fees that you're going to get based  

on the Squarespace plan that you sign up for. I'm going to click over here to the Squarespace  

pricing page, and you can access this on  your own too, at squarespace.com/pricing. 

First things first personal  plan is not going to work for  

you if you want to have a store on your website. So you're either going to need the business plan,  

which honestly, 99% of my clients are on. So  it'll work just fine for having a commerce store,  

even though it's not technically a commerce  plan or the basic or the advanced commerce plan  

might work for you. If you have more of a store  

if your website is really store heavy than a  commerce plan might be a better fit for you. 

I'm going to scroll down here  to the transactions fees line.  

So you can see that the business plan is  going to charge you a 3% transaction fee  

on any order that comes through your website. Whereas the commerce plans will not charge you  

any transaction fees. So this is really  just going to be up to you to decide  

which is going to be the best fit for you. So you can weigh the cost of the Squarespace  

plan itself. How many orders you're getting,  what the price point of your products are. 

What's that 3% maybe going to add up to, and is  it going to make up for the difference between  

the business and one of the commerce plans? You can either pay monthly at these rates or  

pay annually here. And if you do want a discount,  when you first signed up for Squarespace,  

you can go to designing the road.com/squarespace,  and I'll give you my discount code too. 

So he went an extra 20% off one time. So whether  you pay annually or monthly is up to you,  

but you get to use it one time,  even though I just did two fingers. 

Okay, so that is your fees.  

Now I'm going to show you exactly how to  connect with Stripe and PayPal to Squarespace. 

So I have a dummy trial site set up over here.  When you log into your website, you'll see the  

sidebar over here, you click into commerce. You can either click, add a way to get paid or  

what I always do, because I'm just used to it as  clicking payments down here on the left side part,  

either way, it'll end up on this screen and you  can see up here, we have Stripe and PayPal and you  

might be like, Catherine, they're square too. So right now we're going to focus on online  

orders. Only square is for if you  have like a brick and mortar store  

and you are taking people's money in person. So Stripe and PayPal are going to be the way  

to accept money online. So to  connect Stripe, pretty obvious,  

but you're just going to connect, hit connect. And you'll see this popup here. That's going to  

ask me to log into Stripe. So since I have already  logged in on this computer, it knows who I am  

so I can click connect. If you don't already have a Stripe  

account, I recommend you doing that separately  before you try to connect it to Squarespace. 

So you can go to stripe.com and create  that account. And once you've done that  

because it does ask you a lot of questions. Once you've done that, come back over here  

and then you can connect it to your  website. So I'm going to hit connect. 

And while it processes, it might ask you to  log into, but I just logged in, in another tab.  

So I think that's why I got to skip that part. And that is all it takes to connect to Stripe.  

You can see the apple pay is  automatically turned on here. 

So we already have Stripe and apple pay  connected to the website. Now I go back  

to commerce. If I want to connect  PayPal, watch what happens. 

So it says you can't connect to PayPal  account while you're in the trial mode.  

So if you haven't paid to upgrade  Squarespace, you can't connect PayPal. 

So you're going to have to pick a plan  before you can actually connect PayPal,  

but to show you how to do it, I will do  it over here on my, my actual real site. 

So I'm going to click connect here under PayPal,  When need to refresh this page. There we go. And  

it, a lot of things are changing and just like  it did on strike, it's going to ask us to login. 

Okay? So just like we did for Stripe now on my  live site, I'm going to click to connect PayPal.  

This is just a simple, we're going  to log in The United States Login. 

And at this point it does this. It always  confuses me and I never picked the right one.  

There's the option to go back to  Squarespace or continue to pay pal set up. 

I feel like I always click this  one. Cause it's the button.  

I don't know. We're going to click this one. One works in one. Doesn't  

go back to Squarespace. Let's see what  happens. Okay. So that's when you had to  

click go back to Squarespace for it to work. If you say continue on to PayPal to set up,  

which in my opinion makes sense. It's not  actually going to connect to your website. 

So next step it just says, since you're  on the business plan, there's transaction  

fees and you're going to agree to that. It's then going to log me into my PayPal  

because they're going to take the transaction  fees from PayPal out of my account. 

So I'm just going to select the bank  account and say, save and continue.  

And now PayPal is connected and now PayPal  is connected to my Squarespace site. 

So I've got Stripe, PayPal, apple pay option, and  Venmo. I've got apple spelled wrong share on this.  

Okay. Now let's talk about getting  the money from your orders. 

I'm not going to show you my PayPal homescreen  with my balance or anything on it, but it's  

super simple when you log in and you're on  your dashboard, all you have to do is say,  

send the money to my bank account on Stripe. There is a little setup on the back end. So if  

you come into your Stripe account and put this  little settings icon on the top, right, you'll  

see this external payout accounts and scheduling. This is where you're going to connect your bank  

account. And then you can tell it how often you  want it to send the money to your bank account. 

So I just have it on automatic. So it sends money  out. I don't remember what I set it at, but it  

just sends it out as frequently as possible. You can set another schedule if that makes  

more sense to you though. So this  is where you're going to do that. 

And again, I'm not going to  click into that because that's,  

it's got the bank account info in there. So  that is how to get the money from your orders. 

So we've been over the options,  Stripe, PayPal, apple pay, Venmo,  

the fees, make sure you weigh your options  there. How to connect to Stripe and PayPal. 

We went through both of those and  then how to get the money from
