HOW TO FINANCE AN RV - YouTube

Channel: RVersity

[0]
let's just talk about how to finance and purchase an RV.
[2]
I get ask a lot of questions about buying my RV.
[5]
I just went through the purchasing process of this
[8]
Unit and it has been an adventure.
[11]
Why not share that with you.
[12]
I actually wrote this bubble chart.
[13]
You probably can't even see this, but I listed like all the
[17]
things I could think of that you possibly asked about buying an RV.
[20]
Why would you want to buy an RV cash versus
[24]
finance?
[25]
There are advantages to both.
[26]
When you buy an RV there's gonna be expenses it could be the dealer fees,
[30]
some type of warranty, taxes.
[33]
You're not gonna want to pay out of pocket because
[35]
that's your cash and you can use that to actually use the RV because you gotta pay
[40]
for all the operating expenses that come along with the RV and you might want to finance
[44]
those in versus paying those out of pocket.
[46]
Amortize like a home they'll finance these things out like
[49]
a house.
[50]
It could be 10, 15, 20 years.
[52]
I just financed this one out 20 years not because I'm gonna take 20 years to
[56]
pay it off you might be able to actually write the RV off as a second home on
[60]
your income taxes or for some type of income tax purpose.
[64]
Last year, I had a house and I had an RV so I had two places
[69]
to live not really but technically I was in
[72]
the process of selling the home.
[73]
That was something to keep in mind is that I can
[75]
write off the interest from that potentially so that's another reason
[79]
that you want to finance it because you'd be writing off the interest instead
[81]
of a huge payment one time. And, a lot of times (I used to do taxes so do not take
[86]
this as tax advice but) if you make a really large purchase a lot of times
[91]
what happens is they'll make you amortize it out anyways over so many
[96]
years.
[97]
To finance at a dealership, a dealer can check multiple lenders for
[101]
you.
[102]
Now, if you have a really good relationship with your bank they may be
[105]
a great place to start for your RV loan.
[108]
Don't go and get pre-approved for an RV.
[111]
Plan what you need and plan what you can afford.
[114]
So, what type of RV you need and then what type of RV you can afford as
[117]
far as like your monthly payments etc..
[119]
I would kind of stretch it out like that.
[120]
Those are a lot of the pros there are some
[123]
cons.
[124]
Of course when you're financing they're going to run at your credit.
[127]
Normally, you have to have really good credit to get an RV.
[130]
I don't want to say excellent but good.
[133]
If you have really crappy credit, I'm not sure that they'll
[135]
get you financed because an RV is considered a luxury item.
[139]
But, if it's for a smaller purchase like ten thousand,
[142]
thirty thousand, below fifty you might be able to get financed if you don't have
[147]
that great of credit.
[148]
Again the dealers can shop around for you.
[151]
A lot of times what happens is they may want you
[152]
to put down a down payment that could be anywhere from ten to twenty percent.
[157]
If you go over a hundred thousand in your purchase, you will have to put down
[161]
a down payment for your RV unless you're trading something in.
[164]
Some places like Camping World which I'm not
[166]
saying go there please if you do do your research before you go there.
[170]
Oh Gosh don't rely on them to help you find the
[173]
perfect RV but they will take stuff.
[175]
So like I traded in a car on an RV or two
[178]
before I bought this one and wrapped that into my deal.
[183]
That's something that you might be able to do and then if
[185]
you're over a hundred thousand or even under one hundred thousand, depending
[189]
on your bank and your financial situation you might have to have some
[192]
type of proof of income.
[193]
I've had to have my pay stubs I've had to have like w-2s
[197]
or if you own your own business you might have to have more stuff with your
[200]
taxes - a couple years of tax return.
[202]
It just depends on your bank your situation
[205]
and you really won't know till you apply but you should consider at any aspect
[210]
you're gonna have to have these things more than likely.
[212]
Have a budget and find what you want and then figure out how to
[217]
buy it.
[218]
I have heard that you should expect to get about thirty percent off
[220]
of MSRP which is manufacturer price and then you can haggle from there.
[224]
I'm just telling you these places do not
[226]
really haggle that much.
[227]
You need to know what you're bargaining with when
[230]
you go in there because it kind of depends on what they got it for as well.
[236]
Keep in mind that you're buying a home but seriously!
[239]
You are buying a home!
[242]
You are buying a home!
[244]
The resale value on house it's the same thing because when
[248]
you try to sell this it may not be super easy to sell.
[252]
I've tried to sell mine is not easy okay it's not easy.
[256]
You're going to take a loss on it in most cases and it's
[260]
no something that you can flip around and just sell unless you trade it in and
[263]
then you're still gonna take a loss on it.
[265]
So keep that in mind when you're buying what the resale value is on it,
[268]
what you're paying for it, and kind of what you should expect.
[272]
Other expenses like I mentioned you want to keep in mind...
[275]
Are you gonna have to pay for propane?
[277]
your gas?
[278]
your diesel to get around?
[279]
any electricity?
[280]
water? -- all of these things come into account when you're financing
[284]
as well because you're gonna have to pay for something else on top of the monthly
[289]
payment that you're already financing.
[291]
I remember when I got my travel trailer I
[293]
would tow with it.
[294]
I had to tow it so I bought a travel trailer then I bought
[297]
the tow car for it because I didn't have one.
[300]
Kind of weird I know!
[302]
But I quickly discovered the towing was really expensive and I was
[306]
crying every time.
[308]
Probably gosh every time I moved that thing it cost me over
[311]
a hundred dollars because I'd have to stop three or four times to get gas and after
[314]
half a tank it would just drop and it was horrible.
[317]
Used versus new.
[318]
If you're going to buy I would buy a couple years old
[320]
(maybe two or three) just because the resale value on these it drops as soon
[324]
as you take it off the lot.
[325]
That thing is gone it's gonna drop like ten thousand
[327]
dollars immediately if not more there's tons of RV companies out there.
[331]
There are tons of finance companies.
[334]
You have to do your research.
[335]
That's why I mentioned if you go to the RV dealership, they can
[338]
shop around for you.
[340]
I hate to say this but camping world is kind of like a mega
[342]
giant and they're probably a really good place to get started not that you have
[346]
to buy from them but you can get a lot of information and see different models.
[350]
The bigger the RV the more expensive the RV the more it costs to operate and more
[354]
it cost to buy, the more it cost to insure, so keep all of those things in mind.
[358]
Even if you can afford the big RV there's these other costs that are
[363]
associated with it.
[364]
Then online RV Trader - I'd go in there and look around.
[366]
Now you know that basics to purchasing an RV why you would
[370]
want to finance one versus pay for one with cash.
[373]
There are pros and cons to both.
[375]
We talked about the different RV types so
[378]
if you're not sure which type of RV to get you might want to check out a video
[381]
I did about the different RV types.
[383]
If you're gonna be been boondocking, I did a
[387]
video about that.
[388]
If you're doing this buying process, I went through this and
[391]
it can be a little crazy.
[392]
So, I put everything into a nice little checklist
[395]
that you can download in the description below.
[397]
It's my RV buying guide to answer all your questions and if you have more make
[402]

[430]
to share my RV life with you and people on my other channel may not want to know
[434]
about my RV life because it's about business and how I live and work in my
