[16]
here's we're just going to talk about
[18]
the three different ways that most
[19]
people go about buying a car and this is
[21]
at least 90 of everybody is either
[24]
buying
[24]
private party buying from a buy here pay
[26]
here car dealership or buying from an
[28]
established franchise dealership
[30]
and so we're going to go over the big
[32]
differences between
[34]
what you get out of those experiences
[37]
so more and more people are going
[39]
private party these days it's not what
[41]
it used to be of
[42]
putting a for sale sign in your car and
[44]
sticking it out in your driveway
[46]
there's a huge selection of used
[47]
vehicles on craigslist facebook
[49]
marketplace you name it
[51]
um one of the nice things about this is
[53]
that you're working with
[54]
just a person looking to sell their car
[56]
a lot of people don't want to deal with
[57]
the car sales person i totally get that
[60]
um so that is one of the nice things
[62]
about going private party is that you're
[64]
just working with
[65]
that person you've got great selection
[67]
they they own the car so they can tell
[69]
you
[70]
hopefully they're honest one of the cons
[73]
about working with someone private
[75]
parties they are not legally obligated
[77]
to disclose
[78]
damage salvage title um
[81]
anything like that they don't have to
[83]
disclose anything
[85]
so that's that is one pro phone with a
[87]
dealership is that they have to disclose
[89]
if it's been
[90]
an accident if it's got a bad title
[93]
you name it um and then the other thing
[95]
is is that you have to secure your own
[98]
financing
[98]
if you're not in a position where you
[100]
can pay cash for the car you're going to
[102]
have to
[102]
go through the hoops of getting your own
[105]
financing
[106]
uh the pros and cons of going with a buy
[110]
here pay care dealership the pros is a
[112]
pretty short list
[114]
it's really just that they will finance
[116]
just about
[117]
anybody with a very small amount of
[119]
money down
[120]
and the reason they're able to do this
[122]
is because it's in-house financing
[124]
that's what
[124]
buy here pay here means is that they
[126]
serve as the bank and the dealership
[129]
which is kind of a conflict of interest
[131]
but
[132]
um so they will finance just about
[135]
anybody
[136]
but you're going to be paying say 25
[139]
30 interest more often than not and
[143]
a lot of people don't understand just
[145]
how impactful interest rate is
[147]
so for example the difference between
[150]
um fifteen thousand dollars financed at
[153]
zero percent interest on a sixty month
[155]
loan
[156]
and 15 000 dollars financed at 25
[159]
interest on a 60-month loan it's 190
[161]
bucks a month
[162]
so if you're going into a bike you're
[164]
paying your car dealership and you wind
[166]
up planning to fifteen thousand dollars
[167]
at 25 percent
[171]
a month of your payment has just gone to
[173]
interest and it's all front loaded too
[174]
so it takes people forever to get caught
[176]
up with the interest you're
[177]
burying it it's just not usually a great
[180]
deal
[181]
um another con of going with the bike
[183]
here baby here dealership
[185]
is that if you're in this bad credit
[186]
situation already you're
[188]
going to compound it and make it worse
[190]
by going through one of these places
[191]
because
[192]
not only are you overpaying for a car
[194]
paying too much in interest and then not
[196]
necessarily getting something that's
[197]
going to be reliable it could
[198]
potentially break down on you and your
[200]
stolen hope for the payments
[201]
um most of these places do not report
[204]
those payments to credit bureaus you're
[206]
not actually going to be building credit
[207]
um while you're making payments to this
[209]
place um
[211]
so franchise car dealerships what i mean
[213]
when i say a franchise car dealership is
[215]
they're backed by the manufacturer so if
[217]
you drive past a dealership and it's got
[219]
a big
[220]
blue ford oval out there or it's got the
[222]
big toyota sign out there
[224]
um there is a lot of advantage when it
[226]
comes to that they're backed by the
[228]
manufacturer if you go into that
[230]
dealership and you don't like the way
[231]
that you're treated
[232]
you have recourse you can reach out to
[234]
the manufacturer and say
[236]
i was not treated well at this
[237]
dealership i didn't like it
[240]
and um franchise dealerships have a lot
[242]
more reason to protect their reputation
[244]
than my here take your places do
[246]
if you know you go out and tell everyone
[249]
you know that you were taking advantage
[250]
or buy a buy here pick your car
[251]
dealership they're
[253]
probably not going to be surprised but
[255]
established franchise dealerships their
[257]
reputations everything so they have to
[259]
protect
[259]
it um most of them have service
[262]
departments that's another big pro
[264]
is that they they're able to fix the car
[266]
that they just sold you
[268]
so um like us at gresham ford we really
[272]
stand behind our used vehicles like if
[273]
we
[274]
sell you something and something goes
[275]
wrong with it in the first 30 days
[278]
well we we went through an insta in a
[280]
very
[281]
extensive inspection on that in the
[283]
first place to make sure that nothing
[284]
was
[285]
wrong to our knowledge and so if
[286]
something was we typically take care of
[288]
it
[288]
um the other nice thing about um going
[293]
to the franchise dealership is that a
[295]
lot of them have
[296]
certified pre-owned used vehicles these
[299]
can be just a great deal
[301]
in terms of value to price and what you
[303]
get out of them in terms of warranty
[304]
coverage and everything
[306]
though i will say look out and look into
[309]
the certified pre-owned program that
[310]
you're buying through
[311]
uh because everyone has one at this
[313]
point in time and some of them
[315]
don't really mean anything like carmax
[317]
has certified pre-owned vehicles but
[318]
it's not like buying a
[320]
ford certified pre-owned vehicle where
[321]
you get a big ford warranty that comes
[323]
with it
[324]
but uh this is this is my main thing
[327]
with
[328]
with when you're looking for someone to
[330]
do business with it doesn't matter
[331]
whether it's the private party person
[332]
buying your baker dealership or the
[334]
franchise dealership
[335]
research who you're buying the car from
[338]
look up
[339]
google reviews yelp reviews facebook
[342]
reviews
[344]
better business bureau reviews that will
[347]
give you
[348]
an insight on what what experiences
[350]
people have when they go to that
[351]
dealership
[352]
whether or not they like it definitely
[355]
look out for
[357]
anything that's showing up in the
[359]
advertisements for that
[361]
uh that review website because they paid
[363]
money to be there and they're not
[364]
necessarily there because
[367]
they're doing such a great job against
[368]
so many great reviews but they're paying
[370]
money there to be there so
[372]
just be mindful when you're doing your
[373]
research of that
[385]
you
