Best Cell Phone Plans of 2022 - YouTube

Channel: Payette Forward

[0]
- The best cell phone plans of 2022.
[3]
Switching cell phone plans is a great way
[5]
to save money every single month.
[6]
And sometimes they get better coverage,
[8]
better features when you do.
[9]
Let's start with our favorite unlimited plan,
[12]
Visible's plan.
[13]
- Visible is owned and operated by Verizon.
[17]
They are Verizon.
[18]
What don't you get?
[19]
You don't get stores.
[21]
You don't get phone support.
[23]
You do get all the great Verizon service
[25]
and good chat support, and online support.
[27]
So they also don't get 3G with this plan,
[30]
but 3G is going away in the beginning of 2022.
[33]
So who needs that anyway?
[35]
- This plan includes unlimited data.
[37]
It's an unlimited plan,
[39]
unlimited minutes, unlimited messages,
[40]
mobile hotspots included, calling to Mexico
[43]
and Canada is included.
[44]
5G coverage is included,
[46]
and the thing that's really great about Visible,
[47]
when you add four people to your party,
[49]
so you have a party of four, including yourself,
[51]
your plan's gonna cost $25 a month,
[53]
- Right. - and everyone is responsible
[55]
for their own bill.
[56]
It's like a family plan where it's just one bill
[58]
and you have to Venmo your friend or your mother,
[60]
or whoever. - Exactly. Venmo your mother.
[63]
Yeah, I couldn't do that if I tried.
[65]
How much is Visible for one line?
[67]
- $40 a month which is still a pretty good deal
[69]
on unlimited data.
[71]
When you start adding people to your party though,
[72]
so if you have a party of two, $35 a month per line.
[75]
Party of three, $30 a month per line.
[77]
Party of four or more, $25 a month per line,
[80]
and Visible also recently added Apple watch cellular plans
[83]
for $5 a month. - Really?
[85]
- Which, and unlimited data on that too,
[87]
which is a pretty good deal, so,
[88]
- That's a great deal. - Yeah, so
[90]
if you're looking for an Apple watch cellular plan
[91]
to go with your cell phone plan,
[93]
- That's a great deal.
[95]
- Yeah, if you're looking for an Apple watch,
[98]
just get a party of four.
[99]
$30 a month for that, is, - Yeah.
[102]
- it's very good deal.
[103]
- It's like getting eight lines for $30 a month.
[106]
- It's really great.
[107]
- That's a great deal. How 'bout that?
[109]
What about a party of five? How much then?
[111]
- $25 a month.
[112]
- Per line? What about 6?
[114]
- It's $25 a month.
[115]
- How many lines can I have?
[116]
How many people in the party?
[117]
What's the maximum?
[118]
- I don't know.
[119]
- What if I want to get my entire college in on this?
[121]
- I don't know if there is a maximum.
[122]
- There is not.
[123]
- Is there not a maximum?
[124]
- There's no maximum
[125]
in this party. - Oh wow, okay.
[125]
- So let's say you're a college student and you're popular.
[128]
I don't know what that's like,
[129]
but you've got a lot of friends
[131]
and you don't want to pay a lot of money
[132]
for your cell phone bill,
[133]
so you get every single person at that college
[135]
to sign up for your party pay plan.
[138]
You only pay $5 a month then.
[140]
- Yep.
[141]
- Yeah.
[142]
- Refer a friend, $5 a month for you and that friend.
[144]
I think there's a cap at one year,
[145]
but still, a year of of service for $60.
[148]
That's pretty good. - Pretty good, yeah.
[150]
You know, maybe you can make it part
[151]
of your sorority or fraternity initiation process.
[154]
- Sign up for this plan.
[155]
- Sign up for this plan is required.
[157]
Let's talk about our favorite MVNO plan,
[158]
it's the Mint Mobile 10 gigabyte prepaid plan,
[162]
10 gigabytes of high-speed data, including 5G,
[165]
unlimited minutes, unlimited messages, mobile hotspot,
[167]
Mint Mobile, I think, has the best ads of any carrier.
[170]
- I mean, (dreamy harp music)
[171]
my mom and I were in the car the other day
[173]
and we actually spent a few minutes talking
[174]
about how charming Ryan Reynolds is.
[176]
- Okay. - He's just,
[177]
I can't not like him.
[179]
He's probably the most charismatic person.
[181]
I mean him, Chris Pratt.
[183]
- The ads are really good.
[184]
Mobile hotspot is included.
[185]
(dreamy harp music) - Can we just talk
[186]
about Ryan Reynolds, please?
[187]
- Wifi. Calling also included.
[189]
So the $20 a month
[190]
for this plan is the three month intro offer.
[194]
So, you can lock in that price after that three months,
[198]
if you renew for a full year.
[199]
So, what we recommend doing is,
[201]
take that three month intro offer,
[202]
$20 a month, $60 upfront.
[204]
See if you like Mint Mobile, if they're for you,
[207]
renew for the full year, lock in that price.
[209]
- Right, that's the deal.
[210]
Mint Mobile is a great plan for a great price.
[214]
(dreamy harp music) Owned by Ryan Reynolds.
[216]
- Yep, and they are a T-Mobile MVNO,
[218]
pretty reliable coverage there,
[219]
especially if 5G is important to you
[221]
because T-Mobile is leading the way in 5G.
[223]
- Right, they really are.
[225]
Our favorite cheap plan is $10 a month.
[227]
It's Tello Mobile's one gigabyte plan.
[230]
One gigabyte of high speed data,
[231]
and then unlimited low speed data after that.
[233]
And that's true for the Mint Mobile prepaid plan as well.
[237]
Unlimited minutes, unlimited messages, you know,
[239]
pretty basic plan, pretty cheap, $120 a year.
[242]
- That's a good deal.
[244]
A lot of people are at home nowadays,
[246]
on wifi most of the time,
[247]
you probably don't need a lot of cellular data.
[249]
You can save a ton of money.
[250]
I mean, just do the math. - Yep.
[251]
- You can actually check on your phone, too,
[252]
see how much data you using every single month,
[254]
and if it's really low or if you just don't use data at all
[257]
because you have wifi all the time, as you said,
[259]
switch to a $10 a month plan. - Right.
[261]
- Really easy to do.
[262]
- So, I'm going to build a calculator, David, for people.
[264]
We'll drop a link in the description below.
[267]
You can go to upphone.com to this calculator that I'm going
[270]
to build between the time of right now
[272]
and when this video comes out,
[273]
and then you can see how much data you use per month,
[276]
if you go to the iPhone settings app.
[278]
Should we show people how to do it real quick?
[279]
- [David] If you have an iPhone, open the Settings app,
[281]
tap cellular.
[283]
First, look at this current period,
[284]
44 gigabytes of data, that might scare you.
[287]
But the current period is listed at the very bottom.
[290]
So 44 gigabytes.
[291]
But I last reset my statistics on September 10th, 2020.
[294]
- Wow. - So I've used 44 gigabytes
[296]
over the past 14, 15 months.
[299]
And if you want to do a test for yourself,
[300]
just tap Reset Statistics and it'll do whole new period,
[304]
I'm currently now at zero bytes.
[306]
Our favorite Verizon plan is the Verizon five gigabyte
[309]
prepaid plan. We love it so much we both have it.
[311]
- We do, but David's sort of falling out of love with it.
[313]
- I am a little bit.
[314]
So, first month is $40 - Yeah, 40 bucks,
[318]
- And then, month two you get the $5 auto pay discount.
[320]
And then after three months you get an additional $5 off,
[323]
so now you're on a $30 per month.
[324]
And then after nine months,
[326]
it gets knocked down to $25 per month.
[329]
So, if you've been on the plan for a while,
[330]
$25 a month on Verizon's network,
[333]
five gigabytes of high speed data,
[334]
then unlimited low speed data, unlimited minutes,
[337]
unlimited messages, mobile hotspot, that's great.
[339]
But if you're just switching to this plan now,
[342]
it's a little, uh, fuzzier. - Yeah. I mean,
[344]
it used to have more international calling features.
[347]
- Yeah. And now it no longer includes calling
[349]
to Canada and Mexico. - Yeah,
[351]
the 15 gigabyte plan does.
[353]
What I love about this plan is, I have one line
[356]
on my cell phone plan and I can pay $25 a month
[359]
on Verizon for one line.
[361]
If I had many people, if I was having a party,
[364]
I'd go with Visible, - Yep.
[365]
- because then I could pay 25 bucks,
[366]
but I don't have enough people.
[368]
- Don't have any friends,
[369]
if you don't have any friends, - No friends.
[370]
- there might be a better deal for you.
[371]
- Right, exactly.
[372]
- But Verizon, you know, best carrier overall,
[375]
they keep winning all the awards and,
[376]
- Yeah, I think they might also own the award companies,
[379]
but, - They might.
[379]
- I'd like to welcome Hans Vestberg,
[381]
chairman and CEO of Verizon here to Apple Park.
[384]
- This plan also includes Verizon's 5G nationwide.
[388]
That's their low band 5G.
[390]
It's not necessarily faster than 4G LTE all the time.
[393]
I mean, I don't really have 5G anyway.
[395]
And when I do, it's like I'm driving,
[396]
I'm stopping at a gas station on a drive,
[398]
and what am I going to do? - Yeah, we've done that right?
[400]
- We've done the 5G speed test,
[401]
which actually found that the 5G speeds
[403]
weren't always faster.
[404]
- In fact, they're average because 4G is built out more,
[408]
- Yeah, - average.
[409]
I turn off 5G on my phone, who needs it?
[411]
- So, when you're looking at a cell phone plan in 2022,
[413]
5G is not really something you should be thinking
[417]
about a ton, but it is,
[419]
I mean, to some people it's important,
[420]
but really unless you're in like a major urban area
[422]
where they have the high band 5G,
[425]
- Yup. With good weather, because you need
[427]
to be outside for it to work at all.
[430]
Who needs cell phone service that goes through doors,
[433]
- Yeah, - or windows?
[434]
- Everyone. - Everyone.
[435]
- Our favorite AT&T plan is an online exclusive,
[439]
eight gigabyte prepaid plan.
[440]
After eight gigabytes, unlimited low speed data,
[443]
unlimited minutes, unlimited messages,
[444]
mobile hotspot included, $25 a month.
[448]
but the catch is you pay for the full year upfront.
[450]
- Right, but the taxes really aren't bad on this one.
[453]
- Yeah, it comes at like 304, I think, so it's,
[455]
- I don't know how they calculate that,
[456]
that doesn't really make a lot of sense, does it?
[458]
And it's like, what, one point something percent?
[461]
- It's low, but if you can actually eat
[463]
that $300 upfront cost, great plan.
[467]
- It's a great plan.
[468]
Yeah, eight gigabytes high-speed data per month on AT&T,
[471]
also a great carrier.
[472]
- Yep.
[473]
- And 25 bucks a month, again.
[474]
- Yeah, now, if 5G is something that's super important
[477]
to you, AT&T is currently losing the 5G race,
[479]
- They are. - they are in third place
[480]
and it is not close. - Nope.
[482]
- And I just want to reiterate,
[483]
this is an online exclusive offer,
[485]
so we'll have links in description to all of these plans,
[487]
but you do need to sign up for this one online.
[489]
If you go into the store, they're gonna say,
[491]
we can't help you out there.
[492]
- And you should buy this phone
[493]
and you should buy carrier insurance
[494]
and you should buy these accessories
[496]
and you need to buy this unlimited plan
[497]
because it's such a great deal.
[498]
And then all of a sudden,
[499]
your cell phone bill is $200 a month
[500]
and you're like, what happened?
[502]
- Now we've mentioned
[502]
that the Verizon five gigabyte prepaid plan
[504]
doesn't have the international feature anymore.
[506]
This plan does include unlimited texting
[507]
to over 200 countries, as well as talk, text and data
[511]
in Mexico and Canada.
[513]
So that might be a differentiating factor for you.
[515]
- Yeah, that's cool. - If that's important to you.
[516]
- Yeah. - T-Mobile.
[518]
It was kind of hard to pick the best T-Mobile plan
[520]
because I really don't like the structure
[523]
of their prepaid plans
[524]
where the data caps are actually hard data caps.
[527]
So if you use that 2.5 gigabytes,
[529]
- Really? - you get cut off, yeah.
[531]
- Wow, that's crazy. - Yep.
[532]
- Cut it out. (laughter)
[534]
- So what happens? No data?
[536]
- So you get no data for the rest of the month.
[537]
- No data, just wifi, tough luck?
[539]
- You get tough luck.
[540]
So T-Mobile, we recommend just paying all the way up.
[543]
Get that Magenta Max plan, especially if you have a family,
[546]
you know, you get four lines for,
[548]
I think it's $43 per month per line.
[551]
- It's not bad. - It's pretty good,
[552]
and this plan is just, it includes a whole ton of stuff.
[556]
So, unlimited high-speed data with no high-speed data cap.
[560]
A Netflix basic for one line
[561]
or Netflix standard for two or more lines,
[564]
40 gigabytes of high speed, mobile hotspot,
[566]
a ton of awesome international features,
[567]
including unlimited minutes messages and data
[569]
in Canada and Mexico.
[570]
Access to T-Mobile Tuesday,
[572]
which is T-Mobile's customer rewards program.
[574]
I think it's the best rewards program out there
[576]
and a whole bunch more. - Yeah.
[577]
- This plan for one line, however, $85 per month.
[581]
So, really that's a lot.
[582]
T-Mobile also offers a 10 gigabyte simply prepaid plan
[586]
for $40 a month, but you can get the, you know,
[589]
about the same plan on the same coverage,
[591]
Mint Mobile is a T-Mobile MVNO, for $20 a month,
[594]
same amount of gigabytes of data, so,
[596]
- Yeah, and if you're going to pay 40 bucks a month
[598]
go to Visible.
[599]
- Yup. - Yup.
[600]
- Our best no data plan.
[602]
My favorite is the Ting Flex plan,
[605]
and it's different than other no data plans
[608]
where it actually gives you the flexibility
[609]
to add on one gigabyte of data for $5 a month,
[612]
so if you used no data, great $10 a month,
[614]
but you also have that flexibility in a pinch
[616]
to pay $5 per gigabyte.
[618]
Whereas some other, no data plans,
[619]
just give you no flexibility, and you're kind of
[621]
on your own. - Mhm, yeah.
[622]
(dreamy harp music) I'm trying
[623]
to envision a situation where someone would want
[625]
to have a no data plan.
[627]
(record scratching) They just have wifi.
[629]
- They just want minutes, messages and wifi.
[630]
- Minutes, message, wifi, okay. Yeah. That's cool.
[633]
So it's 10 bucks a month,
[634]
but you don't have to pay for more than one month at a time.
[639]
- Yeah. It's a prepaid plan, so,
[641]
- There you go.
[641]
- So you know, you're thinking Tello Mobile,
[643]
$10 a month for one gigabyte
[645]
then unlimited low speed data,
[646]
whereas the Tang Flex plan,
[648]
maybe you need two one month for whatever reason,
[649]
then it's $20,
[650]
you just gotta be a little bit careful with this plan
[652]
because adding those gigabytes can get really expensive
[655]
over time, and if you find yourself using, you know,
[658]
three to five gigabytes a month,
[659]
just to get a plan that includes that for less money.
[661]
- Yeah, totally.
[662]
- Those are our favorite cell phone plans of 2022.
[665]
Thanks for watching.
