The BEST under $150. 馃憫 Lypertek Pureplay Z5 - YouTube
Channel: EL JEFE REVIEWS
[0]
- [Jeff] Every once in a
while, a set of earbuds comes
[2]
into my studio and truly stands apart
[4]
from the others on the market.
[6]
The Lypertek PurePlay Z5
are one of those earbuds.
[9]
And I'm truly excited to
tell you all about 'em.
[12]
So let's get into it.
[14]
But first, Lypertek was kind
enough to send these earbuds
[17]
over for this review.
[18]
I'm telling you this because I believe
[20]
in honesty and transparency
with you as the viewer.
[23]
But please, make sure you
watch multiple reviews
[25]
on any product before making
your purchasing decisions.
[28]
Also, be sure to stick around
to the end of this video,
[31]
so you can see the comparison rankings
[32]
and the microphone quality samples.
[34]
So first up, let's start
with the connection.
[37]
So these are featuring Bluetooth 5.2,
[39]
along with AAC, SPC and apTX Adaptive
[42]
as their connection codex.
[44]
While you still need an Android device
[45]
to take advantage of apTX
Adaptive, the PurePlay Z5
[48]
are still fully compatible
with iOS devices as well.
[52]
Now, just to be clear,
[53]
I do test all of these earbuds
with both an iPhone 12 pro
[57]
and a Xiaomi Mi 11 light
[59]
just to ensure full compatibility
[61]
with both operating systems.
[63]
When it comes to Bluetooth range,
[64]
I was getting about 11 meters
or 36 feet worth of range.
[68]
Now, obviously that's gonna vary depending
[70]
on how many obstructions
you put in between
[71]
the earbuds and the device
that they're connected to.
[74]
Now, these are also
featuring single usage mode,
[77]
and this is where you can
use each earbud individually
[79]
while the other one is
charging in its case.
[82]
And thankfully the
active noise cancellation
[85]
and Amio modes are still supported
[87]
while in single usage mode.
[89]
That's something very,
very good to see here.
[91]
Now, when it comes to lag or latency
[93]
when watching videos,
[94]
there is little to none
[95]
to be experienced here.
[97]
Doesn't matter if you're
on iOS or Android,
[99]
if you're watching YouTube or Netflix,
[101]
doesn't really matter.
[101]
Little to no video latency.
[103]
Now, when it comes to mobile gaming
[105]
with the Lypertek Z5,
[106]
these are good for casual gaming,
[108]
but if you're gonna be playing any
[110]
of the mobile shooting games,
[111]
there is going to be a bit of latency here
[113]
even with the apTX adaptive codec.
[116]
So if you are somebody who's a stickler
[119]
for that latency, then you
might wanna look elsewhere
[121]
for your gaming needs.
[123]
So now let's move over
to the battery life.
[125]
So Lypertek was claiming seven hours
[128]
on a single charge with
an additional 28 hours
[130]
in the case.
[131]
So in my actual testing,
[133]
I was able to get four
hours and four minutes
[135]
with noise cancellation turned on,
[136]
and then six hours and 55 minutes
[139]
with noise cancellation turned off.
[140]
All of that testing was done
[142]
with the apTX adaptive codec.
[144]
And this battery life
is what's to be expected
[146]
out of true wireless earbuds
[148]
with these features at this price point.
[150]
Now, when it comes to charging
[151]
the earbuds themselves,
[152]
these do feature fast charging,
[154]
and that's where you can
drop both of these earbuds
[155]
into their case for 15 minutes,
[157]
and that's gonna give you
an additional two hours
[159]
worth of playback time.
[160]
When it comes to charging the case itself,
[162]
they do feature USB type C
along with wireless charging.
[165]
So you've got both options
with the Lypertek Z5.
[169]
Now, when it comes to the case itself,
[170]
it is a compact case design, flip top.
[173]
It's definitely a thick boy,
[175]
so it's not super, super pocketable
[177]
but overall it's not the
biggest case on the market.
[179]
Definitely not as big as
like what you're getting
[180]
from Shure or from Bose
or any of those guys.
[183]
It does have a satisfying
snap when you close it,
[186]
and it's basically just
this overall black color
[188]
with a silver logo.
[190]
So now, let's move over to the comfort.
[192]
So the Lypertek PurePlay Z5
[194]
are featuring a stem style
design with an oval stem.
[197]
Now they are including
three different tip styles
[199]
in the box.
[200]
So they're gonna give
you a set of foam tips.
[202]
You're also gonna get some wide bore tips
[205]
and some narrow bore tips
for a total of 10 pairs
[208]
of tips inside the box.
[210]
But if none of those happen
to work well for you,
[213]
you can stretch a set
of the SpinFit CP1025
[217]
over their oval stem.
[219]
So it is an option for you
[220]
if none of these 10 different
options work out for you.
[224]
So overall, they are quite comfortable
[225]
for me and my large ears,
[227]
but they do stick out quite a bit.
[229]
Not really a deal breaker for me
[231]
because I really don't care
what other people think
[233]
about what earbuds I'm wearing,
[235]
I just don't care about the opinions
[236]
of strangers like that,
but I know for some of you,
[238]
that could be a deal breaker.
[240]
So just something to keep in mind.
[242]
Now, the grip is actually quite good
[244]
with these, but obviously
it's gonna depend
[246]
on which Ear tips you're using.
[247]
Foam are gonna give you excellent grip,
[249]
SpinFit are gonna give you excellent grip.
[251]
So that's just something
you may wanna keep in mind.
[253]
Now, these can be used for workouts
[255]
and they do feature an IPX 4 rating.
[257]
So that'll have you covered for, you know,
[259]
some light sweating,
[260]
maybe a little bit of a light shower,
[261]
but you definitely don't wanna
submerge these underwater.
[265]
Now, when it comes to
sleeping with these earbuds,
[267]
back sleep not gonna be an issue,
[268]
but side sleep, that's gonna be a no go.
[270]
They stick out way too much,
[272]
And they put a lot of pressure
in your ear in my testing.
[274]
So you definitely don't
wanna be side sleeping
[276]
with the Lyperteks.
[277]
Now, before we move into the next section,
[279]
did you know that over 80%
[281]
of the people watching my videos
[282]
aren't even subscribed to my
channel, help me change that.
[286]
I'm trying to build a positive
[287]
and inclusive community around
the latest audio technology,
[289]
and I'd love it if you joined us.
[291]
We even do live shows on Sundays,
[293]
so make sure you come through
for those live Q and A's.
[296]
Now, let's move over to the controls.
[297]
So the Lypertek Pureplay Z5
[299]
are featuring full touch controls.
[301]
You get access to a single touch,
[302]
double touch, triple
touch, and a long press.
[305]
And these touch controls are programmable
[308]
via the Lypertek Pure control app.
[310]
When it comes to the actual controls,
[312]
they are quite responsive, easy to use
[314]
and very easy to locate
on the earbuds themselves.
[317]
Now, speaking of the app support,
[319]
the Lypertek Pure control app is available
[321]
for both iOS and Android devices.
[323]
It's a very simple and clean app.
[326]
When you open it up, you get the volume
[328]
and the battery status.
[329]
You get the toggle for the LDX mode
[332]
which is one of their
own custom EQ settings.
[335]
It's pretty sweet if you ask me.
[336]
You also get an EQ, you get
six presets plus two customs
[340]
that you can customize yourself
[342]
and these do respond to EQ very well.
[345]
And then you also get access
to the listening modes,
[347]
which is active noise cancellation,
[349]
Ambient Mode or off,
plus you get the toggle
[352]
for the auto ambient mode.
[353]
Now I'll be explaining a
little bit more on that feature
[355]
in the upcoming ambient mode section.
[358]
After that, you also get the
[359]
aforementioned touch
control customization.
[361]
There is a find my earbuds feature,
[363]
and then there's a settings
[364]
where you can go in and
do firmware updates.
[366]
So overall, a pretty clean app.
[368]
So once you get these earbuds,
[369]
make sure you download this app
[370]
so you can get the full experience.
[372]
So now, let's move over to the performance
[374]
of the Lypertek PurePlay Z5.
[376]
So let's start with the
active noise cancellation.
[379]
So these are featuring hybrid
active noise cancellation.
[382]
Now, I would say that against crowd noise,
[384]
it's going to give you
[386]
average noise cancellation performance.
[388]
Now it's very strong
against low frequency,
[390]
like engines and air conditioning
units, things like that.
[393]
But if you wanna improve
[394]
the overall noise
cancellation performance,
[396]
then you definitely want to
use those memory foam tips.
[399]
They isolate very well,
and you get maximum
[402]
noise isolation using that combination
[404]
of memory foam and ANC.
[407]
Now this hybrid ANC is good enough
[409]
for an earbud in this price range,
[411]
but it's definitely not a top performer
[413]
in the 100, $250 category.
[416]
So now let's move over
to the Ambient Mode.
[419]
Now their Ambient Mode is
excellent in my opinion.
[421]
It's clear, it's got good volume.
[423]
There's a little bit of white noise,
[424]
but that's to be expected
[426]
when it's pulling in this much sound
[428]
at this volume level.
[429]
I can give it a little bit
of forgiveness for that.
[431]
But these are also featuring
their auto Ambient Mode.
[435]
And this auto Ambient
Mode works very well.
[437]
And, basically, in a nutshell,
[439]
it automatically activates an Ambient mode
[441]
when you pause the music playback.
[443]
So it's one of the better Ambient modes
[445]
at this price point.
[446]
And this auto ambient
works surprisingly well.
[449]
It's actually quite useful
[450]
like if you pause your
music, it automatically
[451]
goes in ambient so you can hear
what's going on around you.
[454]
It's actually not a
bad idea if you ask me.
[456]
So now, let's move over to the sound.
[458]
So first up, volume.
[460]
So the Lypertek PurePlay Z5,
[462]
in my measurements, they
managed to get 107.6 decibels
[465]
of peak volume.
[467]
So for me, comfortable listening
[468]
is gonna come in right
around 55 to about maybe 70%,
[473]
75% ish right around there.
[475]
So they're definitely more
than loud enough for me.
[478]
And I think there's gonna be plenty
[479]
of overhead for anybody who
needs that additional volume.
[482]
But now I have a quick question for you
[484]
before we get into the sound quality.
[485]
What type of sound do
you personally prefer?
[488]
Do you like something with big bass,
[490]
or do you prefer something more balanced,
[492]
maybe you prefer a flat
or a neutral sound?
[494]
Let me know your preferences
[496]
down on the comment section.
[498]
Now, when it comes to the sound quality
[499]
of the Lypertek PurePlay Z5,
[501]
they're bringing you
that well balanced sound
[504]
that Lypertek is known for.
[506]
This time around, they
added a bit more bass
[508]
but still kept their
excellent sound stage,
[510]
that instrument separation,
and their overall clarity.
[514]
But let's break it down
a little bit further.
[516]
So first, let's start
with the bass response.
[518]
So this has a fast and
accurate bass response.
[521]
There is some sub bass,
[523]
but it strikes quickly
and it gets out of there.
[525]
So it doesn't stick around, you know,
[527]
overly long or anything like that.
[529]
It's not overpowering,
[531]
but it's enough to satisfy
this bass head right here.
[534]
So good enough for me.
[536]
Now, a test track that I used to test
[538]
the bass was "Nocturnal" by The Midnight.
[540]
You wanna skip to the one minute
[542]
and 15 second mark and
wait for that bass drop.
[545]
Excellent.
[546]
Definitely give that one a shot.
[547]
So now let's move over to the mid-range.
[549]
Now the Lypertek Z5 have
a rich and warm mid-range.
[553]
These have a smooth mid
bass that adds depth
[557]
to the sound, male and female vocalists
[559]
sounded truly natural the way
[561]
that they were intended to sound.
[563]
Now, the sound stage here
is excellent as well.
[565]
That's one of the things
[566]
that really always stuck out with me
[568]
with Lypertek's earbuds
[570]
that's almost as close as you can get
[573]
to IEM like sound with
true wireless earbuds
[576]
which is really, really impressive.
[578]
Now the song that I used to test this out
[580]
was "While My Guitar Gently
Weeps" cover by Santana,
[584]
Yo-yo Ma and Indie RE.
[586]
It's an excellent song.
[587]
You just need to hear it from
the beginning to the end.
[589]
It is a truly beautiful cover
of an amazing classic song.
[593]
Now moving over to the treble.
[595]
So the Lypertek Z5 have that crisp
[597]
and clear treble that
Lypertek is known for.
[601]
There's good detail and airiness
[603]
without being peaky, or
fatiguing, or harsh in any way.
[607]
There's very good treble extension here,
[609]
but it doesn't go too far,
[610]
which is exactly what I like to see.
[612]
It's got just the right
amount of brightness
[615]
for your boy ol' Jefe.
[616]
And once again, along
with that sound stage,
[618]
you're also getting excellent imaging
[620]
and excellent instrument separation.
[623]
So something that you
just don't see very often
[625]
with true wireless earbuds.
[627]
Now, the test track that
I was using for the treble
[629]
was "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" by Outcast.
[633]
Now, the whole opening number
up until a minute and seven
[636]
when the song sort of truly starts
[638]
where you can just hear
the instrumentation,
[640]
and the drums, and the band,
and the horns, and everything,
[643]
absolutely beautiful.
[645]
I mean, the whole song is fire.
[646]
Like, don't get me wrong,
I'm a huge fan of outcast,
[649]
but just the band just truly sets
[652]
a mood in that section.
[653]
And it's just something
you have to experience
[655]
if it's a song that you've never heard,
[657]
definitely wanna give it a try.
[659]
Now, when it comes to EQ.
[660]
For testing, I use the Z5
in their default setting.
[664]
I also used LDX to hear the difference,
[666]
and I personally prefer LDX mode
[668]
over my own custom EQ,
but I still recommend
[671]
trying the EQ presets for yourself
[673]
to see which one you like best.
[674]
The Z5 also responded well to adjustments,
[678]
so get in there and
have some fun with that.
[680]
Now, if there's any constructive criticism
[682]
that I would give Lypertek,
[683]
it would be, firstly, the battery life.
[685]
It could be better, but this would mean
[687]
making the earbuds slightly
bigger than they already are.
[690]
Now, to be clear.
[692]
Most noise canceling
earbuds offer battery life
[694]
between four and seven hours at best
[696]
with a few outliers out
there like the Sony XM4,
[699]
these Lypertek Z5 fall into the lower end
[702]
of this range, but it is to be expected.
[705]
Now, if you need something
with longer battery life,
[706]
feel free to ask me in the comment section
[708]
and I can make a recommendation for you.
[710]
Just be ready to open up your wallet
[712]
because longer battery
life with a ton of features
[714]
does not come cheap.
[716]
Now, the stem design.
[717]
Make these stick out quite a bit,
[718]
and if you prefer something more discreet,
[720]
you will have to look elsewhere.
[722]
Once again, if you need
something more discreet
[724]
just ask on the comments.
[725]
And then lastly,
[726]
the noise cancellation
could be a bit stronger.
[729]
Now the phone tips do
help greatly with this,
[731]
but it will be nice for
them to be able to do
[733]
a bit better of a job with
their standard ear tips.
[736]
All right, so now let's get
into the comparison section.
[739]
And for this comparison,
[740]
we're gonna be comparing them against
[742]
the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro,
[744]
the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro,
[746]
the Edifier Neo Buds Pro,
and the OnePlus Buds Pro.
[750]
Now I have four reviews
[751]
on each of the earbuds in this comparison,
[753]
so if you're interested in checking out
[755]
any of those videos,
I'll leave links to them
[757]
in the video description right down below.
[759]
So let's get into the rankings.
[761]
First up, active noise cancellation.
[763]
In first place, we've got Samsung.
[765]
Second place, we've got Soundcore.
[767]
Third place, we've got OnePlus.
[769]
Fourth place, we've got Edifier,
[771]
and in fifth place, we've got Lypertek.
[773]
Now, while the Lypertek Z5 offer you
[775]
decent noise cancellation
performance for their price,
[778]
they are sadly left behind
by the other options
[781]
at this price point.
[782]
Moving over to the Ambient Mode.
[784]
In first place, we've got OnePlus,
[786]
Second place, we've got Lypertek.
[788]
Third place, we've got Soundcore.
[790]
Fourth place, we've got Samsung,
[791]
and in fifth place, we've got Edifier.
[793]
Now, Lyperteks, with
their auto ambient feature
[796]
and clear mics offer some
of the best performance
[798]
in this category.
[800]
The OnePlus still pulled off the wind
[802]
by sounding far more natural
than all of the others
[806]
on this list, it is truly impressive,
[809]
and probably as close as
another set of earbuds
[811]
has come to the Apple
AirPods Pro's Ambient Mode.
[814]
Now moving over to the volume.
[816]
In first place, we got
OnePlus with 109.9 DB.
[820]
Second place, we've got
Lypertek with 107.6 DB.
[824]
In third place, we got
Soundcore with 106.2 DB.
[828]
Fourth place, we got Samsung at 103.5 DB.
[831]
And in fifth place, we've
got Edifier at 103.1 DB.
[836]
So here, numbers, measurements, you know,
[838]
they speak for themselves.
[840]
So moving on.
[841]
So now, sound quality.
[843]
In first place, we've got Lypertek.
[845]
In second place, we've got Edifier.
[848]
Third place, we've got Soundcore.
[850]
Fourth place, we've got Oneplus,
[851]
and in fifth place, we've got Samsung.
[854]
Sound tuning is what sets
Lypertek's products apart
[856]
from many others on the market.
[858]
While most wireless earbuds aim
[860]
for that V-shaped bass
heavy type of sound,
[863]
Lypertek took a much more
balance approach here
[865]
and it truly shines.
[867]
Clarity, width, warmth,
and just enough bass
[871]
to balance things out.
[872]
And definitely, one of
the best sounding earbuds
[875]
to hit the market in recent months.
[878]
Definitely not something to be slept on.
[880]
So now, let's get into some
microphone quality samples,
[883]
and this way, you can hear all
[884]
of these back to back,
so you can see which one
[886]
is gonna work best for your needs.
[889]
All right, so here we have
a microphone quality test
[891]
for the Lypertek PurePlay Z5.
[893]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[895]
As you can see, I'm indoors
in a semi-quiet room.
[898]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[901]
All right, so here we
have the microphone test
[903]
for the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro.
[906]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[907]
Obviously I'm indoors once
again in a semi-quiet room.
[911]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[914]
All right, so here we have
the microphone quality test
[916]
for the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.
[919]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[920]
So you can see, once again, I'm indoors
[922]
in a semi-quiet room.
[923]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[926]
All right. So here we
have the microphone test
[928]
for the Edifier NeoBuds Pro.
[930]
So testing, testing 1, 2, 3.
[931]
As you can see, once again, I'm indoors
[933]
