Do you need to introduce yourself聽 at a virtual team meeting? Well,聽聽
[5]
knowing how to introduce yourself right may seem聽 trivial, but this self-introduction is actually聽聽
[11]
really important. And in this video, I'm going聽 to share with you five tips on how to give the聽聽
[16]
best self-introduction that you can give at聽 a virtual team meeting. And if you stay tuned聽聽
[22]
to the end of this video, I have something聽 to share with you that's going to for sure,聽聽
[26]
impress the people at your virtual team meeting. Hi, if you're new here, welcome, make sure聽聽
[31]
you subscribe to the best career and project聽 management advice coming to you every Wednesday.聽聽
[37]
So if you're as excited as I am about聽 introducing yourself at a virtual team meeting,聽聽
[41]
then like this video and let's get to it. No聽 handshake, no problem, your virtual introduction.聽
[50]
Okay. You are now the new kid on the block.聽 Perhaps this is a brand new job, or maybe it's聽聽
[54]
even your first job. Congratulations. You have聽 to do your introduction. I want to let you know聽聽
[60]
that it is really important that whatever聽 introduction you use, you should practice,聽聽
[64]
it really is going to help you to be succinct聽 with what it is that you're going to be saying聽聽
[69]
to individuals, because I promise your colleagues聽 are going to be very curious as to who you are,聽聽
[74]
what you're about and really what you bring to聽 the table. Now, the good thing is this virtual聽聽
[79]
introduction is not any different than if you聽 were doing a live introduction around a board room聽聽
[84]
meeting table. So just remember a few things you聽 want to keep it to the point, clear, concise,聽聽
[91]
30 to 60 seconds is usually great. Try not to be聽 boring in the sense of just sticking to your name聽聽
[97]
and your job title. Try to have a little bit of聽 fun with it, but obviously in a professional way.聽聽
[101]
So you do want to give your name what you're聽 going to be doing, you probably also want to聽聽
[105]
give a little bit of a tidbit of who you are,聽 perhaps some experience you may have that they'd聽聽
[109]
be interested in. Now don't go into your whole聽 resume or CV, that's not what they're looking for.聽
[115]
Why not even round it off to even do something聽 that is really interesting about you,聽聽
[120]
something where they're going to want聽 to talk to you afterwards and say, "Hey,聽聽
[124]
can I learn more about that?" That can be great聽 whenever it comes to doing a virtual introduction,聽聽
[130]
because we don't have the luxury when you're聽 virtual of actually seeing people in the hallway聽聽
[135]
and getting to know them a little bit better.聽 So these virtual introductions are a great way聽聽
[139]
to ensure that you can get connected with聽 them really quickly when you do a good one.聽
[144]
So let's talk about an example and I'm going to聽 give you one right now. Hi, I'm Adriana Girdler聽聽
[151]
President of Cornerstone Dynamics, a productivity聽 and project management consulting firm.聽聽
[156]
I have over 20 plus years of experience in this聽 amazing industry working with some really cool聽聽
[161]
clients. I live and breathe this stuff so聽 much so just ask me about my laundry system.聽聽
[168]
Now that was the introduction, but it's not over聽 just yet because we have to talk about the close.聽聽
[173]
When you do a self-introduction you do want聽 to end it up with something really positive聽聽
[176]
about the group. And one thing that you聽 add to what I just gave as an example is聽聽
[181]
I heard some great things about you, I can't聽 wait to work with you. There, you got it.聽
[187]
Now, you know what to say in your introduction,聽 you have to think about some other things as聽聽
[191]
well. So show some enthusiasm, this is going to be聽 really critical, you just don't want to be hanging聽聽
[198]
back. I've seen it on some virtual calls with聽 self-introduction where people are just like,聽聽
[203]
"Hi, how are you?" This is our only really way聽 of getting to know other people because again,聽聽
[210]
we don't have the hallway talk. So show us some聽 enthusiasm, you're excited to be there, smile,聽聽
[215]
really look at the camera. It's just聽 going to be really helpful to come across,聽聽
[220]
which can be a little bit hard聽 virtually, exactly how you're feeling. So聽聽
[224]
definitely exaggerate slightly so聽 that it can come across on camera.聽
[229]
Body language. For body language, you need to have聽 the camera on. So just as important it was for聽聽
[235]
showing enthusiasm. Because again, if you don't聽 have the camera on, you even have to exaggerate聽聽
[240]
things even more, but your body language becomes聽 really important. You don't want to be laying聽聽
[244]
back, you want to be lying down because I've seen聽 that, you really just want to be sitting straight,聽聽
[249]
ideally even have your computer set up properly聽 so it's at eye level. Because with your body聽聽
[254]
language, you want to be able to look at people,聽 eye to eye, you don't want them staring up your聽聽
[258]
face. You want to be sitting straight. Again, it's聽 their first impression of you and if you don't put聽聽
[264]
the camera on a lot, that's what they're going聽 to remember. So just think about that. Sitting聽聽
[268]
up straight, ensuring that you have a really good聽 background. Your body language is just saying,聽聽
[273]
I'm here, I'm present, I'm not slouching, I'm聽 not lying down. I'm really here with you and聽聽
[278]
I'm going to give you all my attention. So that聽 really is important with that self introduction.聽
[284]
Dress the part. Now here's real good news, so聽 please don't get on me in the comments like聽聽
[289]
I'm being superficial because I'm not, I'm just聽 sharing with you reality here. The good news is聽聽
[294]
now that we all live in this virtual聽 world and having virtual meetings,聽聽
[298]
we actually have a little bit of casualness聽 associated to it. Fantastic. But when it comes聽聽
[302]
to first impressions and the first time someone is聽 meeting you when you're doing your introduction,聽聽
[307]
virtually, is you do want to kind of think聽 about what exactly it is that you're wearing.聽聽
[311]
I'm not asking you to get dressed up,聽 I'm not even asking you to put on a suit,聽聽
[314]
but you do want to think about this is the first聽 time they're going to see you, how do you want聽聽
[318]
them to remember you? Because they may not see you聽 again for a while. So what's the first impression.聽
[323]
So this is what I do. You can see my curly聽 hair, right? This is kind of my signature look,聽聽
[328]
I was born with this, I can't do anything about聽 it. I actually love it. So what I do is I will do聽聽
[335]
my hair for my first time of meeting an important聽 client or group of people that they've not met me聽聽
[341]
before, because my hair is also my signature.聽 So people go, the one with the curly hair,聽聽
[344]
the curly hair girl. So that becomes important for聽 me from a first impression standpoint, obviously,聽聽
[350]
I'm going to give a really great introduction,聽 but I want them to remember me too not just聽聽
[355]
from my words, but from look. So I'll just have a聽 simple shirt on, again, I'm more casual because of聽聽
[360]
the virtual calls and I'll have my curly hair. Now, second meeting with you, maybe completely聽聽
[367]
different where I have my hair up in a ponytail聽 because we've met already once and you know what?聽聽
[372]
It's a lot of effort to do all this stuff, let聽 me tell you. For you I will do it on the video聽聽
[376]
all the time that's why you see my hair down for聽 you because I love you guys and I appreciate it,聽聽
[380]
because I want to give you a good聽 impression. Do you see? So on that note,聽聽
[384]
just be aware of it. Be aware of what you're聽 wearing. It is the first time they're meeting you聽聽
[388]
and you just want to at least have that聽 really good impression left in their mind.聽
[393]
Follow up. All right. I'm going to suggest聽 I'm going to suggest you're not done聽聽
[399]
after you give your self introduction, follow聽 up. After the meeting, why not send a personal聽聽
[404]
email to each individual saying what a pleasure it聽 was to meet them. This is the connections you're聽聽
[410]
going to start making in order for you to do your聽 job because you're going to probably have to work聽聽
[414]
with all these things visuals. So take the time,聽 follow up. It's a special little thing that will聽聽
[419]
distinguish you and people will remember you聽 by and what a great way to start your new job.聽
[425]
Now that you know how to introduce yourself to聽 your virtual team, it is now time to know how聽聽
[431]
to be awesome at projects. Why? Because聽 if you're new, you don't organization,聽聽
[435]
not only are you going to be doing your job, but聽 you're probably going to do some special items聽聽
[438]
outside of your job, which are called projects.聽 So I want you to go to the link below and grab聽聽
[444]
this, what it is you need to be aware of so your聽 projects don't fail because you're already on the聽聽
[450]
right note with your introduction continue with聽 that right note and download this so you can聽聽
[454]
understand how to sure that everything you do聽 is successful. This is also very transferable聽聽
[459]
to just business in general. So I hope you liked聽 this video. If you could like it, share it with聽聽
[464]
the friends and colleagues that you know, and let聽 me know, how do you introduce yourself? And if you聽聽
[470]
have any other insight that you want to share,聽 thanks so much. See you at the next video. Bye.
