I know lots of you are concerned that in
[2]
today's economic climate doing an on
[4]
vocational course is a waste of time and
[6]
money but that's not actually true a
[14]
[Music]
[18]
vacation is a strong Society for a
[21]
specific job which can be really hard to
[24]
know whether you've got this strong
[25]
suitable chief for the job until you
[27]
actually start doing it and you can't
[29]
sort doing the job until you have a
[30]
degree in it and you can't apply for the
[33]
degree until you've decided that you
[35]
have a strong suitability for the job
[36]
which is kind of a relief Circle in the
[40]
wrong direction so I know some of you
[43]
are potentially stressing about what
[45]
you're going to do in the future you
[47]
don't know what job you wants that is
[49]
completely normal it is completely fine
[51]
at your age to not know what you're
[54]
going to be doing in five years time I
[56]
don't know what I'm going to be doing in
[57]
five years time and I'm much older than
[59]
you it can be really hard to know what
[61]
you love doing because you haven't tried
[64]
everything yet there's loads and loads
[67]
of stuff out there those millions of
[69]
jobs loads and loads of countries food
[71]
hobbies that you haven't tried so maybe
[73]
loads of stuff that you love you just
[75]
don't know about it so it's really hard
[78]
to see whether you have a vacation with
[80]
you don't have a vacation at this stage
[82]
and I know some of you are about
[84]
spending time and money on a degree
[86]
course isn't linked specifically to
[88]
occur we think it's gonna make it harder
[90]
for you to get a job afterwards but a
[92]
degree is so much more than just
[95]
something that is going to get you a job
[97]
any degree that you do whether it's a
[99]
vacation degree or number occasionally
[101]
will give you a large amount of skills
[103]
that are very attracted to employers
[105]
for example physics physics is an
[108]
academic course it is not a vocational
[111]
degree if you want to go on to be a
[113]
physicist in the future you have to do
[115]
another degree you have to do a PhD
[117]
afterwards and then hopefully maybe you
[120]
can get a job as a physicist you have to
[123]
specialize even further so physics as an
[125]
undergraduate is an academic not a
[127]
vacation of course but it is a very very
[130]
attractive
[131]
cause to employers because of the skills
[134]
that it teaches you from visa system
[137]
visits degree you have to look at chaos
[140]
for example and you keep them up the
[143]
stars looking at maps of data and you
[145]
have to pick out patterns in that this
[149]
is something that is really really
[150]
attracted to lots of employers you have
[153]
to be able to follow standard procedures
[155]
you have to be able to work in a large
[157]
group or instructions you have to be
[160]
able to write analyst school reports
[162]
based upon evidence that you have
[164]
collected now these types of fields are
[167]
really really an attractive place like
[170]
home office and mi6 lots of lawyers come
[175]
from a physics background because the
[176]
same skills are involved
[178]
yt will pause based on evidence seeing
[180]
patterns within the chaos history
[183]
religious studies are more essay based
[185]
subjects like that
[187]
it was looking at large amounts of
[189]
evidence large amounts of opinions and
[191]
making up your opinion writing arguments
[194]
based on that there may be a lot of
[196]
different bits of evidence there may be
[198]
a lot of quick dictionary bits of
[199]
evidence they may be bitter evidence
[201]
missing but you have to look at all of
[203]
the sources you have to research sources
[205]
in detail and then you have to write
[207]
long convincing essays long committee
[210]
arguments based on those facts based
[213]
from your research and in detail these
[215]
are great skills if you're thinking
[217]
about English journalism if you think
[219]
we're making which politics or a wide
[221]
range of business consulting any degree
[223]
will give you a wide number of
[225]
transferable skills I keep on listing
[227]
and listing examples but that would be a
[229]
really long and boring video it is very
[232]
very rare these days that you'll stay in
[234]
one job the rest of your life that you
[236]
will just follow one cook me a path and
[238]
sometimes a vacation or degree can be
[240]
rather limiting in the opportunities
[242]
that it gives you if you do know you
[245]
want to go into business but you're not
[246]
exactly sure what type of business then
[248]
you can consider there a major and a
[250]
minor order a liberal arts degree or
[253]
doing a history degree with business or
[256]
doing a combination of subjects so if
[260]
you think like that you may want Jesus
[262]
but you don't want to
[263]
it's doing a vacation on turquoise and
[265]
subjects you can look at university's
[267]
horses where there are two subjects
[269]
involved right from the beginning ever
[271]
since I was a child I always wanted to
[273]
be in cancer research so I went to
[275]
university studied biochemistry and
[277]
afterwards got my dream job in cancer
[280]
research I was in the lab I was working
[283]
on cancer cells I was helping people
[285]
with cancer but in the end it turned out
[289]
I didn't actually enjoy that because it
[291]
was so far removed from what I thought
[293]
it'd be but I went into teaching and now
[296]
I'm sitting here making videos for you
[298]
guys when I was at university the career
[301]
that I have now wouldn't have even been
[303]
slightest possibility so I think in five
[307]
ten years down the line and basing your
[309]
degree decision on what you think you'll
[312]
be doing then can be really really
[314]
tricky and wife alone loads and loads of
[316]
research volume types of ways made loads
[318]
and loads of videos hopefully one of
[320]
those will help you make your choice
[328]
happy chicken
