as always there are two sides to this topic聽
one is that people have paid in all the way聽聽

why should they have to pay again let's be one聽
of those states that doesn't tax our seniors聽聽

when they've paid off another is minnesota's聽
only taxing the higher earners and we need the聽聽

money i think ultimately the most struggling聽
seniors would be the ones that are hardest hit聽聽

so let's take the emotion out of it for now and聽
talk numbers with a public finance expert at the聽聽

u of m why does minnesota tack social security聽
benefits because it's income here's jay kadrowski聽聽

and we tax income in the state of minnesota the聽
percentage you pay depends on how much you make聽聽

in minnesota about half the people who get social聽
security benefits don't pay taxes on them here are聽聽
[137]
the averages people who bring in less than 24 000聽
a year pay no tax households who make less than聽聽
[143]
58 000 about 19 percent of your social security is聽
taxable and households who bring in more than that聽聽
[149]
two-thirds of your social security can be taxed we聽
started doing it in 1985. right after the federal聽聽
[155]
government started doing it our state followed聽
the feds others didn't it was simply conformity聽聽
[160]
with the federal tax which we did in those days聽
routinely if minnesota were to stop taxing social聽聽
[168]
security benefits entirely senate republicans聽
said today that would save taxpayers 430 million聽聽
[174]
dollars a year does that money go straight into聽
the general fund it does is that a big amount聽聽
[179]
it is a big amount minnesota's annual budget is聽
right around 25 billion dollars where are they聽聽
[185]
going to find that 400 million dollars a year聽
in both 2017 and 2019 the state did cut taxes聽聽
[191]
slightly on social security benefits now our rates聽
are lower than the federal ones there are over聽聽
[197]
37 states 37 states that do not tax individuals聽
that are on social security and the number is聽聽
[205]
growing that means there are 13 other states that聽
still tax individuals that are on social security聽聽
[212]
why they do that is only one reason revenue states聽
need the money especially now that is not as聽聽
[219]
many people employed to put money into the social聽
security or even to state programs so they need to聽聽
[227]
get money just as much as the federal government聽
does that's why a few states continue to tax聽聽
[233]
individuals that are on social security now聽
when it comes to this next round of stimulus聽聽
[238]
negotiations it looks like the petition is聽
still moving forward for individuals in congress聽聽
[243]
to go ahead and pass another round of stimulus聽
payments as long as congressmen feel that their聽聽
[251]
position is not threatened remember back in march聽
was a while ago there were over 21 senators that聽聽

sent a letter to president biden requesting him聽
to give us stimulus payments but we're going to聽聽
[263]
keep you guys posted and updated like i said in聽
the last video on what's taking place with this聽聽

round of stimulus negotiations but we can say聽
that the american public is saying that you still聽聽

want to have another stimulus check now when聽
it comes to stimulus there is stimulus money聽聽

available from the second stimulus bill as聽
well as the third bill but a lot of people聽聽

just aren't thinking about taking advantage of聽
it and that is rent relief and utility relief聽聽

these monies can be used not only for your rent聽
your mortgage and utilities but anything that聽聽
[298]
needs to take place in your household you need聽
money for plumbing they've got the money for it聽聽

do you need money to have something done for聽
your roof or if you have something that needs聽聽
[308]
to be repaired in your home and that money can聽
be used towards anything that has to do with聽聽

your home we're going to talk about more states聽
that are giving away this type of money now as i聽聽

for example the next state that we're headed to聽
is north carolina and so far in north carolina聽聽

they've given away over 133 million dollars to 36聽
000 households so far and they're also giving away聽聽

a 25 cash gift card so they're giving away cash聽
and they're giving away money to make sure that聽聽

you get your bills paid so at the end of the聽
day make sure that you take advantage of it聽聽

and the next state that we're ready to head to is聽
north dakota and in north dakota they're saying if聽聽

you've lost over 80 of your income you are head聽
of household and if you're in a position where聽聽

you soon will see yourself homeless because聽
of the covet situation and you lost your job聽聽

they say that they have the monies waiting for聽
you right now in north dakota and most of the聽聽

states have these same qualifications as well聽
if you fall up under those umbrellas definitely聽聽

make sure that you apply don't put yourself in a聽
position to where you're being evicted at least聽聽

try to fight it by applying for these programs聽
and the next state that we really head to is聽聽

ohio in ohio they're giving out over 1.5 billion聽
dollars in free rent and utility relief monies聽聽

so all you have to do is apply we have the links聽

phone numbers for you to call somebody so聽
if you have problems with the applications聽聽

run out faster than february of 2022 and they're聽
paying your rent from back rent all the way from聽聽

last march all the way until now so if they're聽
willing to pay your rent from that time period聽聽

that you take advantage of it and don't wait until聽聽

february the next state that we're here to talk聽
about is this day pennsylvania and pennsylvania is聽聽

giving away over 569 million dollars to landlords聽

when it comes to the state of pennsylvania you聽

over 916 people have been denied in the state of聽聽

rhode island even though they've had thousands聽
of applicants 916 households have been denied聽聽

due to the fact that they couldn't catch up with聽
them to get the money to them so at the end of聽聽
