Obama has not caused the Trump economy: Art Laffer - YouTube

[1]
president obama taking credits in a
[3]
tweet for the economy and jobs recovery
[6]
here it is 11 years ago today near the
[9]
bottom of the worst recession
[10]
generations
[11]
I signed the Recovery Act paving the way
[13]
for more than a decade of economic
[16]
growth and the longest streak of job
[17]
creation in American history former
[20]
Reagan economist art Laffer is with us
[22]
now all right art you saw that tweet how
[24]
much credit does President Obama deserve
[28]
well President Obama is a fine man and
[31]
but he's not an economist he did inherit
[34]
a very very bad economy and he was able
[37]
to take from the trough a very slow
[39]
growth pack the slowest recovery in the
[41]
US history but he did bring it back it
[44]
did come but what's really happened as
[46]
Donald Trump is an economist he really
[48]
understands the economy far better than
[50]
a President Obama did and you have seen
[52]
a continuation in the surge in this
[54]
economy that is second to none
[56]
Obama has not caused the Trump economy
[59]
let me just put it that way very simply
[61]
Trump has caused the Trump economy and
[63]
deserves all the credit for it his
[66]
policies are right on mark and he's done
[68]
a great job and they really are his
[70]
policies President Trump understands the
[72]
economy Obama didn't and I don't think
[75]
Obama was well served by his economic
[77]
advisors during his eight years in
[79]
office all we at this moment the best
[81]
game in town and I'm referring now to
[84]
the economy of the United States seems
[87]
to me that China Europe Japan are all
[90]
reeling either from their own policies
[92]
or from tax increases or from the virus
[94]
and we're not what do you say yeah I
[98]
think that's very true I mean of all the
[100]
major countries there may be some little
[102]
something somewhere like Marie Nia or
[104]
something but this economy is doing
[106]
really really well for a large economy
[108]
it's run exceptionally competently and
[110]
the president Trump deserves all the
[113]
credit for this I mean he has great
[115]
advisors as well Larry Kudlow as you
[117]
know and Steve minutiae 'nor are just
[119]
phenomenal advisors they understand the
[121]
economy and they fit just perfectly with
[123]
President Trump making it just a window
[126]
in win-win for everyone
[128]
trade has come through tax cuts for
[130]
deregulation it's all there
[133]
okay now that's the economy look at the
[135]
market since president Trump's election
[137]
all of the indicators whether it's the
[140]
Dow the S&P and the NASA car on the
[141]
screen now the Dow is up 59 percent the
[144]
S&P is up 57 percent the Nasdaq is up a
[146]
whopping 86 percent since the 2016
[149]
election so again you're laughing the
[152]
look in terms of stock market
[154]
performance we are still the best game
[157]
in town I know it is amazing you know
[161]
after seven years of a recovery a very
[163]
tepid recovery as I mentioned under
[165]
Obama was the slowest recovery in US
[167]
history but there after seven years of
[170]
recovery all of a sudden you get this
[171]
boom in the stock market which is
[173]
incredible you get the growth of the
[175]
u.s. staying at very high rates you get
[178]
tax revenues coming in nicely you keep
[180]
inflation under control
[182]
I mean what's more to ask this is the
[183]
this is the Goldilocks economy if I've
[186]
ever seen one and it's because President
[188]
Trump understands economics we're
[190]
getting the trade deals we're getting
[191]
all of this stuff way late in a recovery
[194]
so it's the I think it's the longest
[195]
recovering US history I think yeah it's
[198]
all because of Trump now look at this
[200]
one it's all because of trauma believe
[201]
me okay
[203]
okay this is more ammunition for you a
[206]
new Gallup poll says most people say
[208]
they are better off now than they were
[211]
four years ago does that remind you of
[214]
anyone in your in your past there are I
[219]
remember when the president you are you
[221]
better off than you were four years ago
[222]
with Jimmy Carter and of course everyone
[224]
knew the answer you know and then he did
[227]
it again in 84 I was an executive
[229]
committee of the reagan-bush Finance
[231]
Committee back then and on his economic
[233]
policy advisory board when he said
[235]
aren't you better off and of course
[236]
everyone know yeah we are we're much
[238]
better off and the same thing is true
[240]
with Trump I mean with Trump is he we're
[242]
much better off than they were I think
[243]
that 61% steward is the highest right in
[247]
there along with John F Kennedy and
[249]
Ronald Reagan right at the very tippy
[251]
top of the performance of that Gallup
[253]
poll and it's just amazing and it's
[255]
really true Trump really knows how to do
[258]
economics and he's done a great job okay
[260]
real last question real fast if any of
[263]
the front-running Democrats any of the
[266]
Democrat
[266]
two in the race if any of them won would
[269]
we still grow the economy not if not if
[274]
they carried out their promises we
[276]
wouldn't we'd have a terrible crash the
[278]
thing that shocks me Stewart and if I
[279]
can be very honest with you as you know
[281]
I've been a Democrat or a Republican
[283]
over the years I'm really just economics
[286]
I'm a Kennedy Democrat I voted for
[287]
Clinton twice the Democrats don't have
[290]
to do this suicide economic march they
[292]
don't it's not part of their DNA it's
[294]
not part of their history but all of
[296]
them have decided that they're going to
[298]
hate everything that Trump did and
[300]
therefore they go against this wonderful
[302]
economy which they don't have to do if
[304]
one of those Democrats decided to be a
[307]
pro-growth Democrat like Kennedy or like
[309]
Bill Clinton or like some of these
[311]
others they could sweep the field but no
[313]
no no they've got to hate Trump on every
[316]
single line including the very wonderful
[318]
job he's done on the economy I mean he's
[320]
spectacular and they were all saying
[322]
it's awful which is just stupid I'm on
[324]
the face of it okay
[325]
I have no foot nothing further to add I
[327]
laugh oh thank you very much indeed
[329]
so thank you Stewart isn't it wonderful
[330]
yeah great all terrific thanks I'll see
[335]
you soon check
