Channel: CA Rachana Phadke Ranade

[0]
Hi guys CA Rachana Ranade here and I welcome you聽 all to my next session Saturday lecture series聽聽
[4]
and today's topic is mutual funds in this video聽 let's quickly understand what are we going to聽聽
[10]
learn number one we are going to talk about聽 what is a mutual fund its basics and how it聽聽
[15]
works number two we are going to learn what are聽 the different types of mutual funds number three聽聽
[19]
I am going to tell you about a very specific聽 type of mutual fund which is a comparatively聽聽
[24]
less known or I may see less explore type of聽 mutual fund and the last and the bonus tip from聽聽
[29]
my side is what are the things that you should聽 check out before investing in any mutual fund聽
[34]
This video is brought to you by "Easy Plan. Easy聽 Plan is an app that helps you save money regularly聽聽
[39]
from your phone where you can earn a higher聽 return than your regular savings account and聽聽
[43]
these returns can also go close to your returns聽 on FDs and that too without any lock-in period.聽聽
[48]
Easy Plan helps you to invest in low risk liquid聽 mutual funds but do you know what's the liquid聽聽
[53]
mutual fund no and watch this video till the聽 end so that you can get an amazing idea about聽聽
[59]
exactly what is a liquid fund and how it works Okay so let me just quickly tell you what is聽聽
[66]
a mutual fund and how it works okay to put it聽 in a very simple way let's take a very simple聽聽
[71]
example on this assume that I were to go from聽 Pune to Mumbai I have two options assume I can聽聽
[78]
take out my own car I can ride on my own I can聽 drive on my own I can enjoy because I know how聽聽
[83]
to drive I know what way I have to choose I聽 know what are the basic rules everything okay聽聽
[89]
so I'm a well-educated person as far as driving聽 is concerned so I can choose how to drive which聽聽
[94]
way to go and how to go over possibility number聽 two I am not really keen on driving I just want聽聽
[100]
to reach Mumbai that's it so what I can do is I聽 can just hire a driver I hire a professional in聽聽
[106]
short he takes the decision on which road to聽 choose and what speed to drive where to stop聽聽
[112]
I keep all the decisions at his discretion I聽 just told him the final destination okay that's聽聽
[118]
exactly the difference between a stock market聽 investment and a mutual fund investment in stock聽聽
[123]
market investment you take your own decisions聽 you know where you have to go how to go you have聽聽
[127]
expertise in that and you have the enthusiasm聽 I may say to explore these things but if you聽聽
[133]
the second category you're really not bothered聽 to explore things you better hire professional聽聽
[137]
and he will take decisions for you that's exactly聽 what a mutual fund does so in simple words mutual聽聽
[143]
fund means there is a mutual fund manager who聽 takes decisions on your own money which is聽聽
[149]
invested with the mutual fund okay so let us聽 understand basically what a mutual fund does聽聽
[153]
ok it will collect money from people like you and聽 me okay so assume that there is a there is a pool聽聽
[160]
of hundred people okay and these hundred people聽 given funds or contribute some money to a mutual聽聽
[166]
fund now this mutual fund is going to reinvest聽 this money into different different investment聽聽
[173]
opportunities like a mutual fund can invest聽 in equity a mutual fund can invest in debt a聽聽
[178]
mutual fund can invest in either or both okay so聽 that depends on the objective of the mutual fund聽聽
[185]
scheme okay so putting it in a very short you聽 know nutshell I may say mutual fund is nothing聽聽
[191]
but a type of organization which would take money聽 from people like you and me would create a pool聽聽
[197]
of funds and this pool of funds will be invested聽 in different different investments okay now what聽聽
[203]
is the positive side for the mutual fund now聽 mutual fund which is invested in different聽聽
[208]
different avenues investment avenues mutual fund聽 will earn income out of that okay now this income聽聽
[214]
earned can be in the form of interest or it can聽 be in the form of dividend okay it could be in聽聽
[218]
the form of gain as well difference between costs聽 price and selling price right so mutual fund okay聽聽
[223]
they've got gains okay assume they've got hundred聽 of begins then what which one is going to do with聽聽
[228]
that distribute this to the investors those who聽 are invested in the mutual fund do you think they聽聽
[233]
want to distribute entire hundred rupees if聽 they distribute hundred rupees are they mad聽聽
[237]
just to do social service no they're not want聽 to do that so they are going to take out some聽聽
[241]
portion for their own purpose this is exactly聽 known as management expenses or people call this聽聽
[248]
as an expense ratio this expense ratio could聽 be typically 1% to 3% of your total investment聽聽
[255]
amount okay I hope you have understood how a聽 mutual fund works in the most simplified manner聽
[260]
Let's move on to the types of mutual funds聽 originally what is to happen I'll tell you every聽聽
[267]
mutual fund company I'm sure you might have heard聽 about all this ICICI Mutual Fund or HDFC Mutual聽聽
[272]
Fund or you might have heard about Aditya Birla's聽 Mutual Fund like mutual funds so many mutual funds聽聽
[275]
are there in the market every mutual fund used to聽 come up with a different type of mutual fund and聽聽
[279]
there was to say now invest in this one now invest聽 in that one poor investor he used to get confused聽聽
[285]
as to exactly where I should invest and where I聽 should not so what's SEBI did SEBI said you can聽聽
[290]
have now only five types of mutual funds okay聽 which are the five types number one we have an聽聽
[295]
equity mutual fund okay so let's understand what's聽 an equity mutual fund like I explained right now聽聽
[300]
mutual fund the mutual fund institution basically聽 is going to collect money from people like you and聽聽
[306]
me and this collected money will then be invested聽 in equity will then be invested in stock market聽聽
[311]
this will be an equity oriented mutual fund or聽 an equity mutual fund second one is a debt fund聽聽
[316]
what what will happen with a debt fund again same聽 first step remains same that mutual fund is going聽聽
[321]
to collect money from people like you and me but聽 instead of investing in equity now it will invest聽聽
[325]
in debt okay please understand in debt the risk is聽 definitely on a lower side because there are there聽聽
[332]
is there is nothing to do with the stock market聽 fluctuations this money from a debt fund never聽聽
[337]
gets invested in a stock market right third one is聽 known as a hybrid fund okay hybrid fund I hope you聽聽
[344]
have understood by the name itself it could be聽 a little bit of equity would be a little bit of聽聽
[347]
debt. Fourth one is basically a solution-oriented聽 one solution-oriented fund could be like a child聽聽
[354]
marriage fund. Okay second one could be it could聽 be a child education fund okay so basically it's聽聽
[364]
a solution-oriented you you have a solution you聽 basically want a solution after some specific time聽聽
[370]
frame for which you invest and whenever the time聽 comes you are going to take out money from that聽聽
[374]
one right fourth type was a solution fund solution聽 solution oriented fund and the last one is like聽聽
[380]
an other mutual fund the fifth one is make other聽 one the best example of another fund is an index聽聽
[385]
fund okay so basically an index fund whatever聽 money this mutual fund house is collecting its聽聽
[391]
directly invested in the fund it's I invested聽 in the index basically so they want to invest聽聽
[396]
directly in your nifty they are going to invest聽 directly in Sensex something like that I hope聽聽
[400]
you have understood the basic types of funds. So moving on today we are going to focus only聽聽
[406]
on one type or in that type also know to talk聽 about a specific subtype which is comparatively聽聽
[412]
less explored by people like you and me I'm sure聽 everyone looks at mutual funds only from one angle聽聽
[417]
that is I would like to earn more but I don't聽 want as much risk as is involved in stock market聽聽
[423]
so majority of you I'm sure might be going ahead聽 with equity oriented mutual funds but guys is that聽聽
[429]
the only option available for mutual fund answer聽 is no so today what we are going to talk about聽聽
[433]
is debt fund and in debt fund specifically I'm聽 going to talk about a fund which is known as a聽聽
[438]
liquid fund okay now what's a liquid one liquid聽 funds are a type of mutual fund that invest in聽聽
[443]
securities with a residual maturity of up to 91聽 days assets invested are not tied up for a long聽聽
[452]
time as liquid funds do not have a lock-in period聽 I'm going to talk about various perspectives of聽聽
[458]
a liquid fund number one for whom liquid fund聽 is useful okay generally people like me poor聽聽
[465]
people like me why poor I don't own any salary聽 I seriously I don't earn even wonder if your聽聽
[469]
salary okay but whatever income I get is business聽 income or professional income so what happens with聽聽
[474]
me and let us understand maybe 10 days 15 days聽 I might not even earn 1 rupee but on the 16th I聽聽
[480]
might earn X amount of money okay now the question聽 is oh my god I have got that sweet message from聽聽
[486]
Bank that your account has been credited with聽 whatever rupees okay but then I don't know what聽聽
[490]
I'm going to do with this money okay just as an聽 example assume that on a single day I got 40,000聽聽
[495]
rupees okay but I'm not sure what I'm going to do聽 with this 40,000 rupees but do I really keep this聽聽
[500]
money in savings account that is one alternative聽 right but in this I am going to get only 4% return聽聽
[505]
instead of that what I may think of is let me park聽 these funds temporarily in a liquid fund okay now聽聽
[512]
what a liquid fund does is that it is a type of聽 mutual fund which will park your money only for聽聽
[518]
a short time short time it could be even like聽 one day and it could be on a higher side okay聽聽
[525]
it should not be beyond 91 days okay so in simple聽 words for whom liquid funds can be important it聽聽
[531]
could be for those people who get money they have聽 some investable surplus but they are not sure when聽聽
[538]
to invest or where to invest they just need some聽 time to think on where to invest for them I feel聽聽
[543]
liquid fund can be the best possible solution聽 second if you talk about the returns on these聽聽
[548]
liquid mutual funds typically whatever types of聽 or whatever different schemes I just checked it聽聽
[553]
could be the ICICI Prudential scheme or other聽 schemes as well I found out that typically okay聽聽
[559]
majority of the cases you earn a potential return聽 of up to 7% it's way too higher than you're saving聽聽
[565]
bank account and it is also beating your fixed聽 deposit returns okay so I feel it's a amazing聽聽
[571]
investment opportunity I might not say that the聽 returns are like sky-high but definitely they聽聽
[576]
are definitely higher than your savings account聽 as well as your majority of FDs. If I go on to聽聽
[581]
the next point is liquidity so let's assume that I聽 had invested in this liquid fund and I need funds聽聽
[588]
now I after almost seven days now I'm sure okay I聽 need to invest my forty thousand in this specific聽聽
[593]
area do I immediately get my money or no answer聽 is yes so typically whenever I sell these liquid聽聽
[599]
mutual funds okay I would get my money immediately聽 okay so I did talk about returns I did talk about聽聽
[606]
liquidity number three is are they safe will it聽 eat up into my investments okay so that is what聽聽
[612]
I wanted to talk about certain precautions that聽 you have to take before you invest but that I am聽聽
[616]
going to cover in the last segment of this video聽 only but one more important aspect which you聽聽
[621]
should understand because it is directly linked聽 with one point which is your returns hmm but聽聽
[627]
next is what taxibility there is someone who is聽 actually looking out oh yeah born money and who's聽聽
[634]
that Government of India okay they want to say聽 Rachana you earned money now pay tax okay so what聽聽
[640]
tax will be a levied on my gains on liquid fund聽 is a very important point so please understand聽聽
[646]
this there could be a long-term capital gain or聽 there could be a short-term capital gain if it's聽聽
[650]
a short-term capital gain what is short-term聽 capital gain I invested in a liquid fund and聽聽
[653]
I have sold it within a span of three years okay聽 so I told you that one year criteria that but one聽聽
[661]
year criteria is basically for the instruments聽 in which I'm investing okay so if I buy into a聽聽
[668]
mutual fund liquid mutual fund and I have sold聽 it let us say within eight months as an example聽聽
[673]
okay I've sold it within eight months then assume聽 that I got ten thousand rupees as a return from聽聽
[679]
this okay now this ten thousand will be taxed聽 as for my tax slab okay so if you think that聽聽
[684]
my income is up to two like fifty thousand that聽 I won't have to pay any tax on that if you feel聽聽
[688]
that my income is up to five lakhs then I would聽 have to just pay five percent of this game if聽聽
[692]
you feel that my tax lab is somewhere between聽 five to ten lakh I love to pay twenty percent聽聽
[697]
tax on that and just in case if you feel that my聽 income exceeds ten lakhs then I don't have to pay聽聽
[701]
thirty percent on this same amount okay so that's聽 for what that's for a short-term capital gain on聽聽
[707]
a liquidfund if it's a long-term capital gain聽 on a liquid fund then the taxation is flat at聽聽
[712]
the rate of 20 percent but there is a concept of聽 indexation also involved it's a little bit tricky聽聽
[717]
I might cover it up in a separate video okay I聽 hope taxation perspective is also understood.聽
[721]
Let's move on to the last segment which is the聽 precautions to be taken and some bonus tips from聽聽
[727]
my side as to at least two to three points聽 which you should consider before investing聽聽
[731]
in any liquid fund number one check what is the聽 entry load or the exit roll okay see guys entry聽聽
[738]
load is generally going to be zero exit load聽 would also be zero for majority of the cases聽聽
[743]
but in some funds with which I was checking on聽 the internet there is an exit load if you exit聽聽
[748]
the scheme within seven days of investing okay so聽 if you're investing today and let us say you sell聽聽
[754]
the units within two to three days you might be聽 charged with an exit node so just check whether聽聽
[759]
the exit load is there for the scheme or does not聽 prevail for the scheme number two also check what聽聽
[764]
is a locking period see generally there is no聽 lock in period for any liquid fund okay at least聽聽
[769]
whatever we searched I did there was no locking聽 period for any scheme but that should be a basic聽聽
[773]
precaution that you should check before investing聽 in any fun and the last point very very important聽聽
[778]
I am investing in a liquid fund does this mean聽 that there is zero risk as I mentioned it's a聽聽
[785]
very important point guys please understand this聽 point okay is there a zero risk involved in liquid聽聽
[789]
fund answer is no there is a risk for sure see聽 the moment you are getting a a bit more return聽聽
[795]
as compared to saving a little bit more return as聽 compared to FD there is a thumb rule of Finance聽聽
[800]
high risk high returns the moment you are reading聽 higher returns it means that you are exposed to聽聽
[804]
some sort of risk now what could have that some聽 sort of risk you might say but madam it's a debt聽聽
[809]
fund so there's no stock market risk I agree聽 there is no stock market this question is that聽聽
[814]
where do this in which instruments do these mutual聽 funds invest okay so going back to our first point聽聽
[820]
people like you and me invested in this mutual聽 fund now the question is where do this where聽聽
[825]
does this pool of money go into this pool of money聽 can be going into something known as certificate聽聽
[830]
of deposits it could be going into commercial聽 papers it could be going into government bonds聽聽
[836]
into Treasury bills okay I'm sure all these are聽 alien names for you but if I start explaining聽聽
[840]
each and every concept the video will go like 1聽 hour something something so I'm gonna discuss this聽聽
[844]
separately in a different video okay so these are聽 different different names of debt instruments as聽聽
[850]
of now okay now what could happen I'll give you聽 a simple example of one of the debt instruments聽聽
[855]
here one of the debt instruments I talked about is聽 a commercial paper okay let me repeat it's a debt聽聽
[860]
instrument be DEBT it's not a death instrument聽 okay right I know it was a bad joke okay anyways聽聽
[865]
so debt instrument commercial paper it's a kind of聽 an unsecured instrument what does it mean tomorrow聽聽
[874]
if some company who had issued this commercial聽 paper and that is a commercial paper in which聽聽
[879]
this mutual fund is investing that company goes聽 bankrupt example yes we do have an example our聽聽
[886]
favorite ILFS okay ILFS come up with a commercial聽 there were many mutual fund liquid funds were聽聽
[893]
invested in commercial papers of ILFS okay what聽 will happen is there a risk for this liquid fund聽聽
[899]
yes there is a risk so ensure that not a big chunk聽 of your liquid fund goes into a specific category聽聽
[907]
like a commercial paper and worse scenario could聽 be like it is going into a commercial paper but聽聽
[913]
only of one or two companies okay so ensure that聽 the portfolio of this mutual fund liquid scheme is聽聽
[921]
well diversified into different different types聽 of instruments and also in different different聽聽
[926]
companies which you know issuing these type of聽 instruments okay so guys to sum up liquid funds聽聽
[933]
are not risk-free but they are definitely low聽 risk category of mutual funds the question is聽聽
[939]
where will I find out the portfolio of all聽 these typical liquid fund schemes we do have聽聽
[944]
a free website moneycontrol.com and you'll find聽 the portfolio of each and every liquid fund in聽聽
[949]
that specific moneycontrol.com so be sure that聽 you check out the portfolio and then only invest聽聽
[955]
in liquid funds okay so I hope we have got a very聽 very holistic approach about what is a liquid fund聽聽
[961]
what are the different types of funds meanings聽 and I hope you have gotten a good confidence聽聽
[965]
about when you should invest in liquid funds and now that you have understood a lot about聽聽
[970]
liquid funds let us now understand how to invest聽 in liquid funds in the most simplistic manner聽聽
[976]
through the Easy Plan app okay so let's login to聽 our Easy Plan app and just for your understanding聽聽
[985]
it's an app through which your funds get saved聽 in ICICI Prudential liquid mutual funds what聽聽
[992]
says what's your name I'll just quickly introduce聽 myself okay Wow so it says that it is helping me聽聽
[1004]
to set a savings goal first okay so I feel this is聽 very important your first step towards financial聽聽
[1010]
success is setting up a goal that's what we are聽 doing right now let's say I want to save for a聽聽
[1015]
vacation why not or an emergency fund first first聽 I feel emergency fund is more important so let's聽聽
[1022]
set up for that how much you spend approximately聽 every month so let us say I spent twenty thousand聽聽
[1027]
per month okay so obviously for three months I聽 will be spending 60,000 for six months one like聽聽
[1034]
twenty thousand but I feel that three months聽 emergency fund should be good enough for me so聽聽
[1039]
let me give this as a target for my savings do聽 you want to save every week or every month I am聽聽
[1045]
NOT a salaried person so I won't get a monthly聽 income I can also enjoy a weekly income okay so聽聽
[1051]
let me choose weekly but anyways I had an option聽 to do that okay it's giving me suggestions how聽聽
[1057]
much do I want to save 5% of my income 10% of my聽 income or 15% and I feel 10% of my income should聽聽
[1063]
be good enough to save okay wow it says that聽 emergency fund will be ready in 23 months good聽聽
[1069]
part I liked about it is number one it helped聽 me to set a goal and number two it helped me聽聽
[1074]
to even you know tell me in within how much time聽 frame I'll be able to achieve that goal okay so聽聽
[1081]
I'm saying save a goal great job setting a goal he聽 has a surprise present okay let me just scratch it
[1090]
Wow I've got 20 rupees bonus for setting聽 my first ball so a very important aspect聽聽
[1101]
of easy plan is that you can invest in multiples聽 let's say if I start with a multiple of only one聽聽
[1109]
hundred rupee it's not necessary that I need聽 to you know regularly invest hundred hundred聽聽
[1114]
hundred rupees let's say in the first month I聽 give a target of one hundred next month I'm not聽聽
[1118]
able to invest hundred it's absolutely fine if聽 I skip a specific month I can even invest five聽聽
[1124]
rupees in a specific month so that's a very聽 amazing point and I feel that one more one聽聽
[1128]
point is that there are no penalty charges for聽 skipping any installment and with this still you聽聽
[1134]
can reach your goals and you can earn a little聽 bit better than your saving and almost close to聽聽
[1139]
your FD returns so if you want to invest using聽 Easy Plan app please check the link which is聽聽
[1144]
given in the description box the link contains聽 separate links for iOS users and Android users.聽
[1150]
I hope you have understood today is the discussion聽 very well that's it from my side Jai Hind bye bye
