[0]
let's take a closer look at Senator
[1]
McConnell stimulus plan bring in Georgia
[3]
Republican senator Kelly Leffler senator
[5]
thanks for coming in
[6]
good morning it's great to be here good
[8]
to see the National Restaurant
[9]
Association putting out a call to arms
[11]
they say they may lose five to seven
[13]
million jobs because of the corona virus
[15]
how quickly can the Senate act well and
[19]
we have to act very quickly we are
[21]
committed to staying here through the
[22]
weekend I personally am NOT leaving
[24]
until we get relief for hardworking
[26]
families past all right I want to turn
[29]
to preparedness and your actions in
[31]
recent weeks January 24th you tweeted
[34]
out this appreciate today's briefing
[36]
from the president's top health
[37]
officials on the novel coronavirus
[39]
outbreak these men and women are working
[41]
around the clock to keep our country
[43]
safe and healthy included dr. Tony foul
[46]
Chi he was there among others you
[48]
preached calm to the public in your
[50]
tweet did you leave that briefing with
[52]
worry or were you reassured that they
[54]
were prepared I felt very confident that
[57]
we were prepared I think where we stand
[59]
today we could not have imagined how
[62]
this is unfolded but I will tell you I
[64]
commend the president the Task Force the
[67]
Vice President all the doctors and
[69]
nurses on the ground who are working so
[71]
hard to address this okay and I think
[73]
the president's early actions in terms
[75]
of putting that travel ban on putting
[77]
travel limitations have been the right
[79]
thing to slow this down to develop
[81]
Diagnostics so senator Department you
[84]
thought the government was prepared yet
[85]
shortly after that tweet that I just
[87]
noted you sold over a million dollars in
[89]
stocks in your own personal portfolio
[91]
before the market went down were you
[94]
trading on inside information about what
[96]
was coming well I'm I'm really glad you
[99]
asked Edie because I do want to set the
[100]
record straight I've seen some of those
[102]
stories and it's absolutely false and it
[104]
could not be true so if you actually
[107]
look at the personal transaction reports
[109]
that were filed it notices at the bottom
[112]
that I'm only informed of my
[113]
transactions after they occur several
[116]
weeks so certainly those transactions at
[119]
least on my behalf were a mix of buys
[121]
and sells very routine for my portfolio
[123]
okay and
[125]
you know you say they were routine
[127]
senator pardon me but and I mentioned
[129]
the sales before stocks went down they
[132]
also purchased your third-party advisors
[134]
sit NYX as I understand which is the
[136]
teleconferencing company with workers
[139]
displaced now given the crisis
[141]
teleconferencing companies are doing
[143]
quite well who are these third-party
[145]
advisors they seem to have a pretty good
[148]
idea about where the market was headed
[150]
well certainly I'm not involved in the
[152]
decisions around buying and selling
[154]
there's a range of different decisions
[157]
made every day with regard to my savings
[159]
and 401k portfolios that I'm not
[161]
involved in and certainly like any other
[165]
trades you you can't see into the future
[166]
I come out of the financial services
[168]
industry where I have over 20 years of
[171]
experience of dealing and complying with
[173]
very strict standards on the ground
[175]
material nonpublic information I'm the
[178]
only chartered financial analyst in the
[180]
Senate and I completely understand these
[182]
rules and have adhered to the letter and
[184]
the spirit of these F senator you
[186]
mentioned your background your husband
[188]
as I understand as a CEO of the company
[190]
that owns the New York Stock Exchange's
[192]
there a conflict here since there were
[195]
purchases that suggest that you've done
[197]
well with some stocks like the
[199]
teleconferencing that I mentioned while
[201]
we have Americans across the country who
[203]
have seen their 401ks plummet that's
[206]
right I mean this is this is where you'd
[209]
need to know that when we acquired the
[211]
New York Stock Exchange back when I was
[212]
part of the company we actually put the
[214]
first set of rules and that prohibited
[216]
discretionary trading so no longer do my
[219]
husband and I have the ability to do
[221]
discretionary trades and that's why it's
[223]
outsourced to third-party investment
[225]
managers and that's why I'm up here in
[227]
Washington working for hard-working
[229]
Georgian families and families across
[231]
our country so that the American Dream
[233]
can stay intact
[235]
I've spent the last 10 days 24/7 around
[238]
the clock working to hear the stories of
[241]
our hard-working Georgians waitresses
[244]
hospital administrators state and county
[246]
public health officials to figure out
[248]
what is needed and I've advocated
[250]
successfully to get that in the
[252]
legislation that we're advancing today
[254]
well senator I know
[255]
notice that there was a spike in cases
[256]
in Georgia overnight with the grown of
[258]
Isis or certainly think about your state
[259]
in all the states around the country
[260]
last question you say that this was all
[263]
aboveboard if the Securities Exchange
[264]
Commission or other entities like the
[266]
Senate Ethics Committee want to look at
[268]
this are you going to cooperate fully
[270]
absolutely this is this is why I came to
[274]
the US Senate to bring outside business
[276]
perspective I think people will have no
[278]
problem getting access to anything that
[280]
they have questions about and I'm glad
[282]
to take any questions at all today
[284]
well senator we appreciate you taking
[286]
our questions and again we wish everyone
[287]
at Georgia and around the country well
[288]
thanks for coming in senator thanks and
[290]
God bless to
