The 80/20 Rule - What is it? - YouTube

Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule?
[2]
Or the 80/20 principle?
[4]
Also known as The Pareto Principle?
[5]
So…
[6]
What is it?
[7]
Originally, the Pareto Principle first started,
as the story goes, in 1906 as an observation
[13]
back in Italy by a man named Vilfredo Pareto.
[16]
He noticed how 80% of Italy’s wealth belonged
to only 20% of the population,
[21]
And in a different case of how 20% of the
pea pods in his garden produced 80% of the
[26]
peas.
[27]
Again, just to clarify, the Pareto Principle
first started as an observation and not a
[32]
law of nature that most things in life are
not distributed evenly.
[36]
Okay.
[37]
You might be already wondering, alright cool…
what does this observation have to do with
[42]
me?
[43]
What does this have to do with achieving more
by working less?
[45]
Well, in this video, you will learn what the
80/20 rule is and how vital this principle
[50]
can really be for you when applied correctly
into your life which has shown to drastically
[56]
improve productivity in a lot of people’s
lives.
[59]
So….
[60]
Let’s talk about it!
[62]
Psst!
[63]
Drop a Like!
[66]
Alright, so…
[68]
The Pareto Principle helps you realize that
the majority of results come from a minority
[73]
of inputs.
[74]
In short, 20% of the input creates 80% of
the result.
[78]
Or vice versa that 80% of the input creates
20% of the results.
[83]
Interestingly, in today’s current day and
age, Vilfredo is still not far off that 20%
[88]
of the world's population controls about 82.7%
of wealth.
[93]
So…
[94]
Here’s a story for you to understand how
it 80/20 can affect people’s lifestyle,
[98]
There are 2 guys.
[100]
One is Fred and the other is Jerry.
[102]
Fred is a hardworking man.
[103]
He’s the guy that you always see him working
nonstop, at his job, at home, almost everywhere,
[108]
he’s on the run trying to get tasks done.
[110]
Trying to pay the bills, trying fix things,
manage everything!
[114]
And there is Jerry.
[115]
This man is kinda like the opposite of Fred.
[118]
He works about 3 hours a day, and the rest
of the day he does whatever he wants, when
[123]
he wants, and seems to always have the ability
to enjoy hanging out with his friends and
[128]
family.
[129]
Now…
[130]
Let me ask you something…
[131]
Who do you think is more productive?
[132]
If you thought Fred, well…
[133]
In this case, Fred was actually the busiest
guy but not the most productive.
[138]
You see, being busy doesn’t mean productive
and that’s where the 80/20 rule comes into
[144]
play.
[145]
I said Jerry has the ability to work 3 hours
a day, and he gets to do whatever he wants
[149]
afterwards.
[151]
Fred is working hard, but with the observation
of the 80/20 rule, 80% of his effort is yielding
[158]
20% of the results.
[160]
Jerry on the other hand, learned early on
how to use his time more efficiently into
[164]
tasks that takes 20% of his effort that produces
80% results.
[168]
Now, don’t take me wrong that I am not saying
hard work is a bad thing.
[172]
Like I said, you can work hard with many of
times working inefficiently so it’s always
[177]
important to keep that in mind to make sure
your work is productive.
[180]
You see…
[181]
The 80/20 is what I use it to analyze productivity
and business tasks, buying groceries, learning
[187]
skills or allocating free time.
[190]
Here’s a couple of life examples I had in
life because I asked the 80/20 rule question.
[195]
Example number 1,
[196]
20% of my tasks were bringing me 80% of the
results in a specific business goal, which
[201]
led to making those tasks top priority.
[204]
For example, my YouTube channel!
[206]
About 20% of my videos are actually bringing
in about 80% of my viewers and this isn’t
[212]
a surprise honestly since this is very common
among all other YouTubers.
[215]
I’m able to see what works, and what videos
doesn’t and I focus on topics that worked
[221]
very well!
[222]
A second example is, in the past, 80% of the
time spent on the phone was pretty useless
[227]
honestly.
[228]
And now my work has improved way more!
[233]
And these are only some of the changes I made
in my lifestyle because of the 80/20 principle.
[237]
Again, how can this apply to you?
[239]
Well, when I read Tool of Titans by Tim Ferriss,
I learned from that book that it's helpful
[243]
to organize your activities and think about
your strengths and weakness.
[248]
In other words, which things you should be
doing on your own and which you should delegate
[252]
or even remove from your schedule.
[254]
When you find something that is yielding more results,
place your focus there and your time will
[258]
be used more efficiently thus you will able
to become more productive.
[263]
Time is the most valuable currency.
[265]
It’s unreplaceable.
[266]
It is something you can’t get back.
[268]
By applying the 80/20 principle, your ability
to better control your time on what yields
[272]
the most results will help YOU IMPROVE DRASTICALLY.
[275]
So…
[276]
What are your thoughts of 80/20 rule?
[278]
How will you apply it your life?
