Book Now Pay Later Flights | Klarna |Afterpay | Paypal Credit | Black Twitter Reacts - YouTube

Channel: Work Hard Travel Well

[0]
so earlier this week on black twitter
[2]
the timeline went into chaos
[4]
when people started to talk about book
[7]
now
[7]
pay later options for flights and i was
[10]
just there reading my timeline
[13]
so what brought about this chaos on the
[16]
timeline this week
[17]
so this is the tweet that started it
[19]
earlier this week and it comes from
[21]
klarna
[22]
which if you aren't familiar it is a buy
[24]
now
[25]
pay later option and they tweeted us on
[28]
our way to the airport
[30]
after buying flights with clarna and it
[32]
turned out to be like a division between
[34]
those who turned their nose up against
[37]
buy now pay later payment plans for
[40]
flights
[40]
and there were some people who didn't
[42]
know about it there are some
[44]
people who were just like you know
[46]
ecstatic about
[47]
it at underscore big o underscore tweets
[51]
flight's taking klarna i'll see y'all in
[53]
dubai
[55]
and so forth these tweets ensued
[60]
me at jfk after booking my world
[63]
tour using klarna and since this came
[65]
about earlier this week it had me
[67]
thinking like
[68]
what is you know all the hoopla about
[71]
all of a sudden
[72]
i've always known about you know book
[74]
now pay later options
[75]
but i wanted to talk to you about really
[77]
quickly what are some book now pay
[79]
letter options for travel and for
[81]
flights
[82]
[Music]
[85]
if you're new here my name is kim and
[86]
i'm the creator of
[88]
workheartravelwell.com and on this
[89]
channel i talk about
[91]
travel tips lifestyle and tech tips for
[93]
busy professionals
[95]
so go ahead and subscribe to this
[97]
channel and turn on the bell for
[98]
notifications i post weekly videos so
[100]
you don't want to miss them
[102]
some options include klarna affirm
[107]
paypal credit and afterpay and this is
[110]
just
[110]
looking at some providers a few that
[114]
do a book now pay later options and
[117]
it really depends on what the airline
[120]
accepts
[121]
most of the airlines i've seen take
[124]
majority of paypal
[125]
credit and then you can use klarna
[129]
app to pay for some of the travels and
[132]
some of the flights
[133]
on klarna on the app you can basically
[135]
make purchases on the app
[137]
and use a one-time card they also
[140]
partner cloner also partners with
[142]
expedia to allow you to be able to make
[144]
purchases
[145]
so i downloaded the app and how it works
[147]
is that
[148]
you are able to add a one-time card that
[151]
lets you split your purchase into
[153]
smaller payments at any online store so
[156]
this is an example of when i clicked on
[158]
expedia was already loaded into the app
[161]
and i chose a flight as you can see at
[164]
the top
[165]
and basically when you're ready to pay
[168]
you
[168]
create a one-time card and then you
[171]
choose
[172]
any of your payment methods you can even
[174]
choose a travel credit card
[177]
and are an american express or regular
[179]
credit card
[181]
and then select to pay by credit card
[184]
and use your one-time card
[186]
so with these options you have to have a
[187]
minimum or
[189]
minimum of a hundred dollars they all
[191]
work in a similar fashion you're able to
[193]
split payment over about
[194]
usually six months similar with all of
[196]
these methods
[197]
the interest doesn't kick in until like
[200]
the six month period is over
[202]
and if you don't pay your balance by
[204]
that six months
[206]
into the six months you have to
[208]
basically pay the interest and it goes
[210]
all the way back to the beginning of
[211]
when
[212]
you basically made the purchase with
[214]
afterpay you have to pay like a fee if
[217]
you're late so it just depends
[219]
i would encourage you to look at which
[221]
options there are
[222]
and consider that before you jump on it
[225]
i know it's very
[226]
tempting to like see that flight deal
[228]
and want to jump on it
[230]
but you have to kind of consider the
[232]
pros and cons
[234]
while you're here check out the travel
[235]
well store which is a travel theme store
[238]
with apparel accessories and home items
[241]
use code youtube for free shipping if
[244]
you
[244]
do not want to use clarinet one thing
[246]
that's been around for at least a while
[248]
in
[248]
american express is a planet option
[252]
and you're basically able to make that
[254]
purchase on your american express
[256]
and you break the payments up on that
[258]
large purchase
[260]
over several months and you are charged
[262]
a fee based on how much the purchase is
[265]
and
[265]
other different factors and chase
[268]
actually started the
[269]
my chase plan in 2020 so that's another
[273]
option
[273]
so you have to kind of consider do i
[275]
want to do a buy now pay later
[276]
or if you already have one of these
[279]
credit cards
[280]
consider doing a plan with your credit
[282]
card since you already have
[284]
history with that credit card issuer so
[286]
these are just the two that i know of
[288]
you definitely want to check with your
[290]
credit card issuer
[292]
if you want to see if there is a plan
[293]
available to you
[295]
like i mentioned before you definitely
[296]
want to pay attention to the fees
[299]
and to like the interest rate
[302]
the apr the annual percentage rate on
[304]
klarna
[305]
is 19.99 at the time of this video
[309]
and the promotional period i mentioned
[311]
earlier is six months
[312]
so you have to pay that balance off
[316]
in six months at the end of the six
[318]
months you'll be
[319]
charged 19.99 against that balance but
[324]
going to the original purchase
[326]
paypal credit is an option it is 23.99
[330]
and it also has a six month promotional
[333]
period paypal
[334]
credit is actually an option i saw most
[336]
of the
[338]
websites went through the checkout
[340]
process tested it out on delta
[343]
and of course you can always pay with
[345]
your delta amex or any other credit card
[348]
but
[348]
if you would like to use paypal credit
[351]
there is an option to
[352]
basically be redirected to paypal and
[356]
towards the bottom it says paypal credit
[357]
is now
[358]
available through your paypal wallet
[360]
paypal credit
[361]
which is basically no interest in six
[363]
months and
[365]
subject to credit approval and also i
[367]
went through the process with southwest
[370]
it basically has it so
[373]
that when you check out as well you just
[377]
toggle to
[378]
the right of the credit card debit card
[380]
option
[381]
and click hit purchase with paypal and
[384]
you'll be
[386]
directed to paypal and you can choose
[387]
the paypal credit option
[389]
keep in mind as all of these options are
[391]
subject to credit approval
[393]
understand that it's going to pull your
[397]
credit
[397]
and credit history and what you're
[400]
approved for and things will depend on
[401]
that so that's with
[402]
any of these options that you use okay
[405]
so back to
[406]
the interest rates and fees amex travel
[410]
credit card if you were to use that or
[411]
any amex but
[413]
i would prefer to use a travel credit
[416]
card so
[416]
that i can basically get bonus
[420]
points for purchasing on an amex travel
[422]
credit card
[423]
but i mentioned earlier that mx american
[426]
express
[427]
has the plan it option there's not an
[430]
interest fee
[432]
but they charge a monthly plan
[435]
fee which is 0.61
[440]
to 1.17 of the purchase the duration
[443]
depends
[444]
on a few factors depending on your
[447]
credit and things like that
[449]
i will show you that american express
[452]
has
[452]
a plan it calculator so you can go ahead
[455]
and see
[456]
what that would look like if you were to
[458]
do it
[459]
so let's just say you purchased a
[464]
600 flight out of the country and you're
[467]
using the american express
[469]
and you want to break it down into six
[472]
payments
[473]
it shows you that you're going to be
[475]
making a
[476]
payment of 104.98 for six
[480]
payments and 4.98 for each
[484]
payment so your total cost is
[487]
you know if you pay it in six months
[489]
you're only paying
[491]
29 and 88 cents above the original cost
[496]
if you were to break it even more
[498]
further down into
[500]
12 months you see the increase of 60
[502]
dollars and 12 cents
[505]
more than the initial six hundred
[507]
dollars and
[508]
ninety dollars if you break it into 18
[510]
months but this is just an example
[512]
and if you pay early you're not going to
[516]
still be you know responsible for these
[519]
fees
[520]
so this is a a way i really like that
[523]
you can do this calculator to kind of
[525]
determine
[525]
and then going back chase has the my
[529]
chase plan is new it started in 2020
[532]
and when i went to the website it was
[533]
very vague on
[535]
what the actual apr would be or what the
[538]
actual
[538]
monthly fee would be it was just saying
[540]
that it's based on the amount and the
[542]
duration of the plan and you can plan
[544]
anywhere from three to 18 months
[547]
so basically what i'm telling you is to
[549]
compare
[550]
the to the interest rate any
[554]
late fees any monthly fees and look at
[556]
how long the period is for you
[559]
to be able to pay that off this is not
[562]
an all-inclusive list of how you can
[564]
book now pay later
[566]
flights because you can go directly to
[570]
like booking.com expedia.com you can go
[574]
directly a lot of these companies are
[576]
offering
[577]
book now pay later flights because what
[580]
a year
[581]
we've had with being able to travel so
[584]
this is a way to encourage people to get
[586]
back out there but
[588]
i would encourage you to basically you
[590]
know be responsible think smart about it
[593]
and to not get into any unnecessary debt
[596]
than you need to
[597]
it's not worth it here are some of my
[599]
thoughts on
[600]
book now pay later flights and using
[603]
some of these methods
[604]
with klarna pro is that you do not have
[608]
a hard pull on your credit there's a
[610]
soft pull but they do of course
[613]
check your credit background to see what
[615]
you're eligible for
[617]
paypal credit has a hard pull and also a
[619]
high
[620]
apr which i mentioned earlier was
[623]
roughly around 23.99
[625]
that's high credit cards on the other
[628]
hand if you decided to
[630]
use klarna and then use your credit card
[633]
you still have that high apr
[635]
but if you decided to use the credit
[637]
card to use
[638]
a plan method which i mentioned earlier
[642]
the apr doesn't really factor in
[646]
unless you miss that payment plan cars
[649]
do have a high apr
[651]
of anywhere from 15.99 to
[655]
22.99 and
[658]
understand this these rates may be one
[660]
thing at this time
[662]
but these companies have the right to at
[665]
any time raise the apr
[667]
buy now pay later methods penalize you
[669]
for not paying the full balance
[671]
in the promotional period and if you
[673]
miss payments you know
[674]
if you're using klarna or any of these
[677]
and you're using directly like your bank
[678]
card
[680]
i kind of prefer the security that comes
[683]
with credit card
[684]
i reviewed paypal credit and it stated
[687]
like if you suspect fraud or anything
[690]
like you have to call this number versus
[692]
american express is really on it
[694]
i have had issues with going through my
[696]
bank and it's a lot more challenging to
[700]
if there's an issue or a fraud or
[702]
something sometimes it was a lot more
[704]
challenging
[705]
than just opening a case really quickly
[707]
on my
[708]
american express app or online and then
[710]
also when i buy flights on
[713]
credit cards there is a
[716]
like built-in kind of insurance it's
[719]
limited but it's some built-in insurance
[722]
for
[723]
the flights that i purchased but at the
[726]
end of the day
[726]
if i i really use travel insurance i'll
[730]
link
[730]
what i use for my travel insurance
[733]
because it protects my
[734]
electronics and protects just like if
[738]
i were to get sick god forbid and if
[740]
you're comparing it with
[743]
klarna are afterpay or a firm versus
[746]
using
[747]
a travel credit card travel credit cards
[750]
have an annual fee
[751]
at the bare minimum or 99 but there are
[753]
some travel credit cards
[755]
that do not have a fee i'll link in the
[757]
description of this video my favorite
[759]
travel credit cards that i've been able
[761]
to
[762]
like benefit from the most i just wanted
[764]
to compare
[766]
what you have available for buy now pay
[769]
later flights
[770]
book now pay lighter flights i wanted to
[772]
kind of talk about that because it was
[773]
very interesting that this
[775]
came about on twitter this week when
[777]
it's been around for a while
[779]
i think though everyone's just ready to
[781]
get back out there and travel
[783]
let me know which method you use and
[785]
these are just the things to be aware of
[787]
i wanted you to know about the two
[789]
different methods going directly with
[791]
the travel credit card versus
[793]
using the buy now pay later option and
[796]
definitely be careful
[797]
when considering all look at all the
[799]
pros and cons look at the
[800]
actually click the link and read the
[804]
terms and fees so that you don't
[807]
get bamboozled but i'm going to do a
[809]
video on
[811]
how you can find you know cheap flight
[813]
so that you
[814]
may not have to use this book now pay
[816]
later option
[818]
so definitely stay tuned and subscribe
[820]
to this channel for more travel tips
[822]
if i missed any let me know in the
[824]
