Welcome to the Xiaomi Smart Home channel.

As a gift for the new year 2021,

I purchased a Mi Smart Safe Box with

high reliability, a notification system

and several ways to open the door.

In this review I will tell you about all the parameters of the new safe,

the management of its smart functions and the

advisability of buying such a device from China.

Mi Smart Safe Box is a household safe for home use

and storage of valuables, documents

or small amounts of money.

So far, it is only sold in China,

the price on AliExpress is just over $200.

The safe comes in a cardboard box with thick foam inside

to protect it from damage,

but if you are shopping from China ask the seller

to reinforce the corners further before shipping.

Package weight is over 18 kilograms.

The safe itself weighs exactly 17 kilograms and

has dimensions of 30x40x30 centimeters.

The package contains instructions in Chinese,

two keys for opening the lock,

two anchors for attaching the safe to the wall and 4 batteries.

The safe door opens 90 degrees.

It contains a block for four AA batteries

and a reset button.

To do this, you will have to hold it down for a few seconds

and then confirm the reset with your fingerprint.

The inner shelf can be easily removed if necessary.

It, like the bottom of the safe, is sheathed with a pleasant black velvet fabric.

The internal volume of the safe is enough to store

documents, folders and electronics in it.

For example, I easily fit a laptop with a screen diagonal of 14 inches.

I liked that the safe automatically locks the door

when it is closed, and if you leave it open, the alarm is

turned on and a notification is sent to the smartphone.

The Xiaomi safe has three types of locks at once.

Cylindrical C-class, which can be opened with an emergency key.

Fingerprint biometric.

And electronic with a digital code.

To improve reliability, you can use two-factor protection,

i.e. opening by fingerprint and digital code at the same time.

It turns out that in total, the Mi Smart Safe Box has 6 opening options.

Key,

fingerprint,

permanent digital code,

one-time password,

two-factor combination

and from a smartphone via Bluetooth.

To protect against mechanical hacking and drilling,

Xiaomi used 65nm high-strength steel

up to 4 (5) millimeters thick.

Together with the warning system and audible alarm,

this makes the safe sufficiently reliable for domestic use.

The entire electronic unit is powered by 4 AA batteries.

Thanks to the low power consumption of Bluetooth 5.0,

one set of batteries will last for about a year.

In the event of a full discharge, you can always open the safe with an

emergency key or connect an external battery via the USB Type-v C connector.

In this case, the lock can be opened with a

fingerprint or a code combination.

By the way, when using the numeric keypad, you can have

any number of characters before and after the valid password

to protect it in case a stranger is near you.

The first time you turn it on and set up, you can

open the safe with any fingerprint.

Next, in the Mi Home application, you need to add a new device,

when you select the China region, the safe will appear automatically,

and for working in the Russian region, I recommend installing a

modified version of Mi Home by Vevs.

The app will ask you to press the reset button for 2 seconds.

Next, we install and confirm the device administrator code.

If you choose a combination that is too simple, the application will not accept it.

After that, Mi Home will require you to enter the

proposed code already on the digital panel of the safe.

After completing the setup, select the room and device name.

Now you can add new users

with unique digital passwords and

register a fingerprint for each of them.

The procedure for adding a fingerprint is similar to

that on a mobile phone.

You need to scan your finger at different angles and

cover all parts of it for the sensor to work as accurately as possible.

I advise you to do this after installing the safe in the place

where it will be permanently located.

So you can immediately register the fingerprint in the way

you will apply it in the future.

At the end, the application will ask you to indicate the

finger of which hand you used.

Why this is done I will tell you a little later, when we go to the safe settings.

Immediately after installation, you can choose an English sound package for the safe.

This is done in the settings section,

which is not localized and entirely in Chinese.

This will help you understand what the device is saying

and what errors are occurring.

For example, if the batteries are flat or the safe is

locked as a result of multiple attempts to open it.

In order to constantly and even remotely see the status of the safe and receive

notifications, it must be connected to a Bluetooth gateway.

For me it is the Smartmi Evaporative Humidifier.

Thus, when working with a safe, you receive push-notifications

about opening, closing, incorrect prints

or attempts to enter an unlock code.

They can be configured in the Mi Home notifications section.

The main screen displays the status: green - the safe is closed, red - open.

Here you can add or remove users

with a unique access code and fingerprint.

In the Chinese section of the settings, it is possible to add a one-time password.

By default, this code takes effect immediately and within an hour.

But you can separately set the validity period for the next day at certain hours.

The following are basic security settings.

The first item to configure the alarm is if the safe door is not closed.

You can select the time after which the sound notification will turn on:

from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.

You can turn off this notification completely.

The duration of the siren is also set here: from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

You can also configure the number of consecutive incorrect

attempts to enter a password or fingerprint within an hour

after which the alarm siren will sound.

You can choose 3, 5 or 10 invalid attempts.

The next item is the voice package of the safe: Chinese or English.

Next, enable or disable two-factor authentication:

fingerprint + digital password.

Enabling this mode may shorten the operating time of one set of batteries.

In the section of experimental features, only one option is available

- this is the inclusion of a telephone notification

when forcing the user to open the safe.

Here you can pre-configure a certain

fingerprint of one of the fingers, when used,

an automatic call will be made to the pre-installed phone

with a notification

that someone is being forced to open the safe.

Unfortunately, for this function to work, I was unable to

add a Russian phone number.

Apparently the feature only works in China.

Further in the settings, the battery charge status

and a section with technical information about the device are displayed :

model, serial number, firmware version and plug-in version.

The help section has a small interactive

user guide and manufacturer feedback.

The rest of the settings are available in Russian or English,

depending on the phone parameters.

In addition to the obvious settings, here it is possible to set an access code

for the safe plug-in inside Mi Home using a password or a fingerprint.

In the automation section, you can create scenarios

in which the safe works as a condition:

when using an incorrect password or fingerprint,

opening the safe, opening it in any particular way, with the

door open, resetting the safe,

low battery charge,

several incorrect attempts to open the safe with a password or fingerprint finger

and try to move the safe.

For example, you can create a scenario in which

if someone tries to enter the wrong code,

then all the lights at home will start blinking

when you have controlled light.

Or, shooting from the home surveillance camera will start and the

corresponding recording will be sent to your smartphone.

If you try to significantly move the safe after setting it,

it automatically turns on the alarm and locks the door for 5 minutes.

I tried to find similar safes with biometric sensors

for opening by fingerprint on the Russian market,

but I could not find anything cheaper than 20 thousand rubles.

Taking this into account, as well as the automation capabilities, the

presence of notifications, working with several users at once

and integration into a smart home, there are no alternatives at all.

Mi Smart Safe Box is suitable for those who are looking for a small

but reliable safe for their home.

But remember that for all its smart functions and notifications to

work, you must have a Bluetooth gateway to work with Xiaomi Mi Home.
