Student bank accounts often come packed
with freebies and rewards, like railcards,
[5]
tastecards and even cold hard cash.
But at the end of the day, you still need to make
[10]
sure the account is going to work for you in the
long term. To help find the right account for you,
[16]
in this video I’ll take you through the best
student bank accounts we’ve seen so far,
[20]
starting with the deal they’re offering and
the key features of the account.
[28]
With the Santander 123 Student Current
Account you’ll get a free 4-year 16-25
[34]
railcard worth £100. The railcard gets you
a third off rail fares, and could save you
[39]
an average of £159 per year.
The 123 Student Account comes with
[44]
an interest-free overdraft of up to £1,500
for the first three years of your degree,
[50]
and will go up to a max of £2,000 if you stay
on for longer. This account also offers up to
[55]
15% cashback at some major retailers.
HSBC has got your Freshers Week events covered
[63]
with its offer of £100 cash when
you open a Student Bank Account
[68]
and make at least 5 transactions within
30 days of opening the account.
[73]
HSBC is definitely one of the more competitive
student bank accounts, offering an interest-free
[78]
overdraft of up to £3,000, which you’ll get
in £1,000 increments starting from your first
[83]
year. And you can manage your account from
a desktop or via your mobile app.
[89]
Nationwide is another bank offering a sweet cash
money deal! Their offer gives you £100 when you
[95]
open a FlexStudent account and deposit
at least £500 by 16 December, 2022.
[101]
Like HSBC, Nationwide’s student account comes
with an interest-free overdraft of up to £3,000,
[108]
which you’ll get in £1,000 increments
each year. And it has both a desktop
[112]
platform and mobile app. The FlexStudent
account is also one of the only student
[117]
accounts that lets you spend on your debit
card abroad for free. Very useful if you’re
[122]
planning a little summer hols excursion. This
account also comes with a mobile app
[127]
Food lovers on a budget, in other words most
students ever, will love NatWest’s offer of £80
[133]
cash and a free 4-year tastecard, which gets you
2 for 1 or 50% off thousands of UK restaurants,
[140]
plus discounts at the cinema. To get the
cash and tastecard, you’ll need to register
[144]
for mobile or online banking and choose
to receive paperless statements within 30
[149]
days of opening your account. This offer is
only available until 31 October, 2022.
[154]
The NatWest Student Current Account comes with
an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000. And
[160]
you can withdraw up to £130 without your card
every 24 hours at NatWest and RBS ATMs - very
[167]
useful if you’ve forgotten to take your card out
with you. You’ll also be able to temporarily lock
[172]
your bank card via the app if you misplace it, and
then unlock it once you’ve found it again.
[178]
The Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest’s sister
bank, is also offering the same deal on their
[183]
Student Current Account. So if you open an account
with them before the 31 October, 2022, and follow
[189]
all the Ts&Cs, you could bag yourself £80 and a
free 4-year tastecard on this account, too.
[195]
And, again, this account comes with an
interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000
[201]
and the ability to withdraw up to £130 without
your card every 24 hours at NatWest and RBS ATMs.
[208]
As well as the ability to freeze and unfreeze your
bank card from the app if you misplace it.
