Allah Loves Forbearance and Deliberation | Episode 18 | Ramadan 2019 - YouTube

[13]
Salamualikoum welcome back to Allah Loves. So this is a very special story
[18]
that I learned very early on while studying the Companions of the Prophet
[21]
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam because a lot of times when you're hearing hadiths
[25]
about rushing to do good and this idea of the Companions being highly
[30]
motivated, which they were, sometimes that could lead a person to not be very
[34]
deliberate about their actions and the things that they do. So this is a hadith
[38]
which takes place with a long incident in the backdrop where you had the tribes
[43]
that were coming to see the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the delegations that were
[46]
coming to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and people were rushing to get
[50]
off their camels get off their horses jump and run to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
[54]
so they could kiss his hand so they could they could greet him and there was one
[58]
person that stayed back for some time and you've got to think well who's the
[62]
one that's getting the camels set who's the one that's keeping things in order
[66]
who's the one that's actually staying behind making sure that no one dropped
[69]
anything who's that guy right that guy was Al Ashaj Abdel Qays. Al Ashaj was an ansari,
[76]
he was a young man but he was very deliberate about the things that he did
[79]
he was very calculated so he was the one that was making sure that everything was
[83]
tied properly and so he stayed behind he made sure that his tribe had all of
[88]
their belongings with them he tied the camels properly he went and he changed
[92]
and he made himself presentable then he came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
[96]
sallam and some of his tribe they kind of mocked that deliberation or they felt
[99]
like he was being slow but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to
[103]
him that "ina fika khasletain" that you have in you two qualities "yuhibuhoum
[108]
Allah" that Allah loves about you and he said what are they Oh Messenger
[112]
of Allah he said "al helm wal ana' " your forbearing and you are deliberate.
[118]
Forbearance and deliberation, now those words are tough words so let me explain
[123]
them. Forbearance is when you are particularly patient with people so he
[129]
talks about patience and holding yourself back right it's a lot easier to
[132]
be patient with natural disaster with something bad happening that's outside
[137]
of anyone's control than it is when it's someone in front of
[140]
you that is really messing with your
[143]
patience right so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the incident that we covered a
[146]
few episodes ago with Aisha radiAllahu anha and the people that shouted out to
[151]
him "al sam aleikoum" the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was showing forbearance he's holding himself
[155]
back restraining himself right and so when you have "helm" when you have
[160]
forbearance you are able to hold it in that's why Ibrahim on Islam is described
[165]
as "haleem" one of the names of Allah is an Haleem, one who is forbearing, Allah is
[171]
forbearing with us Allah tolerates our weaknesses our sometimes
[177]
wickedness and Allah does not punish us right away but instead Allah gives us a
[181]
chance to repent so "al helm" is that a person is forbearing they're calculated
[187]
they're well restrained and so their anger is only for specific contexts and
[193]
it's carried out in a way that is pleasing to Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[197]
"Al ana' " is a related quality of being calculated of being deliberate of making
[204]
sure that you do things properly. Now al ana' is the opposite of hate the
[209]
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said "al ajalato men al shaytan" that hast is from the devil and
[213]
al ana' which is to be deliberate is from Allah. Al ana' is that a person takes
[218]
their time to make sure that everything is done right that nothing is out of
[223]
order and so just as they have a great sense of self-control they
[228]
also have a great control of their environment as well they're making sure
[231]
that they're always doing things properly, calculated, structured, not in a
[237]
way that would hinder progress but in a way that would sustain it. Not in a way
[241]
that would make them too slow but in a way that would make sure that their
[244]
speed and going ahead with good things are done in a way that would maintain a
[250]
momentum a steady momentum towards Allah (swt) towards those good
[253]
things so "helm" and "ana' " come from the same well, the same fountain
[260]
which is to be forbearing to be calm to be collected to be deliberate about what
[265]
you do and Allah subhana wa ta'ala who has that quality himself of being forbearing
[269]
loves to see it in us and loves to see that we take our time to make
[273]
sure that things are done right and that we don't rush and that
[276]
we're not hasty with the things that we do and some people might criticize that
[280]
as being slow but it's not slow just like some people might criticize a
[284]
person who doesn't react to insult or to to foulness in like manner as being
[289]
too slow or being too reserved all of those things are actually beloved to
[293]
Allah subhana wa ta'ala because they're done from a place of intentionality and we as
[297]
believers are taught to be intentional about the things that we do so we ask
[301]
Allah (swt) to put those beloved qualities in us as well and to allow
[304]
them to manifest themselves in our personality and in our work and how we
[308]
control our environment, Jazakoum Allah Khayran, see you all next time
[311]
Inshallah wa salamualikoum wa rahmatollahi wa barakto.
