Channel: TaxGuide101

[4]
hi everyone this is aki with another
[5]
video under the 15 most common tax forms
[9]
um so let's go to our form 7 which is
[14]
form 1099 miscellaneous income so
[17]
many people received this form in the
[19]
past when they were independent
[21]
contractor
[22]
or gig worker
[25]
but two years ago the irs actually
[28]
started issuing a new form for
[31]
non-employee compensation that's the
[35]
1099 nec because it was there was a lot
[38]
of confusion with some of the items that
[41]
are listed on miscellaneous income and
[43]
reporting
[44]
and so now they just separate completely
[47]
so
[48]
let's just let me show you the 1099
[51]
miscellaneous now it has the
[53]
non-employee compensation box one
[56]
in the past it was actually listed in
[60]
box seven on 1099 miscellaneous but
[62]
that's not no longer the case for the
[65]
past two years
[66]
so for 2021 and 2020 that form it has
[70]
been redesigned
[72]
now you are have to be issued this form
[76]
if you've been if you have received ten
[78]
dollars in royalties or
[80]
six hundred dollars in rents prices
[82]
other income you might receive it even
[84]
if you receive less
[86]
and you should receive it by january
[87]
31st however
[89]
you know sometimes it can be delayed so
[91]
you should expect it if you
[94]
you know had some kind of compensation
[95]
miscellaneous compensation it might be
[98]
coming later to you now if you want more
[100]
information i'm just going to go over
[102]
the main
[103]
um
[104]
boxes and so you know this i prepared
[107]
with box by box instruction kind of like
[109]
a summary so you don't have to
[111]
go over the whole booklet on ir's
[113]
website however this is just general
[117]
information for a majority of cases but
[120]
you know there's always an exception and
[122]
there's always different situations
[124]
which may not apply to you so if you
[126]
want more information
[128]
look at the link
[129]
below
[130]
um to get
[132]
the instructions from the irs website
[135]
now at the top you know we have um the
[137]
payer it could be a person it could be
[139]
and
[141]
and
[141]
organization employer and so on and then
[144]
you have the tin number which is
[145]
taxpayer identification number it's kind
[148]
of like a social
[149]
for insta
[151]
institution organization employers
[153]
however it could be a social if it's a
[155]
person that's paying you
[157]
and then you have your information now
[158]
everything on this form it's a
[160]
it's a dummy it's an example that i use
[163]
for jane
[165]
and this is her address
[167]
now it has the account number because
[169]
maybe you were issued 1099 missionaries
[172]
for different things from the same
[174]
person or employer
[176]
and so on so you'll be listed here so
[178]
you want to double check that it's not
[179]
duplicate maybe it's additional thing
[181]
that you have to report
[183]
now
[184]
the year as i mentioned it's here it
[186]
says miscellaneous information
[190]
in box
[191]
one will be rents more than 600 for real
[194]
estate
[195]
machine rental
[197]
public housing
[199]
other personal property and you would go
[201]
on schedule e so you see information
[204]
from this
[205]
form you can go on different schedules
[208]
now if you have royalty income in box
[211]
two maybe you're selling a book and so
[214]
on
[215]
um but it could be also royalties from
[217]
oil guess and mineral properties or
[220]
copyright like i mentioned patents that
[223]
would also go on schedule a and that
[225]
will be listed in box two
[227]
now box three could have other income i
[230]
mean this is miscellaneous information
[231]
for other income so it could be like
[234]
prices awards taxable damages indian
[237]
gaming profits and this would actually
[239]
go on schedule one
[241]
which is a supplemental schedule for 10
[244]
40
[245]
and
[247]
so if you do your tax preparation in the
[249]
software you just have to put that
[251]
information in the software and it will
[253]
allocate it to the right forms
[255]
and you might have to provide additional
[257]
information for these schedules but
[259]
it should flow directly so it's not
[261]
something you have to manually do unless
[263]
you pay per file
[265]
which i would discourage you from doing
[267]
because it's just
[268]
um
[269]
consists of more errors and so on and
[271]
it's much slower to process
[274]
now box um
[276]
four could have withholdings now that's
[278]
really rare
[279]
it could have that situation but
[282]
rarely does but it could have that so
[285]
this would be like a prepayment um of
[287]
taxes
[288]
on the rents royalties i mean for small
[291]
amounts i haven't seen it but maybe for
[293]
very large amounts it it does happen
[296]
now
[297]
um then they have some few boxes that
[299]
are very specific like fishing boat
[301]
process and so on so i'm not going to go
[303]
over that kind of out of scope for this
[305]
video
[306]
um
[308]
now box six could have payments of 600
[312]
more for medical or health care services
[314]
and that would go on schedule c
[317]
as well as the box five
[319]
proceed that would also go on schedule
[320]
ski because that's considered kind of
[322]
like a business so schedule e is more
[326]
like
[327]
um rent
[328]
information royalties but schedule c
[331]
would be like
[332]
assuming you have some kind of business
[334]
or some kind of gig on a site and you
[335]
have to report that income
[338]
and then there's some more specific
[341]
situations i mean that's why you kind of
[343]
have this miscellaneous form to list
[345]
other possibilities that could be out
[347]
there other kind of income like crap
[349]
insurance proceeds you know these are
[351]
really specific for
[352]
for farmers um and that could you know
[356]
be linked to the schedule f
[358]
for farms
[359]
um
[360]
so this this can have a lot of different
[363]
information um
[365]
however majority of people will have box
[367]
one or two or three
[370]
filled out
[372]
now another one that we want to probably
[374]
go through
[377]
box 13 access compensation subject to 20
[381]
excise
[383]
tax so that's something uh
[386]
could be applicable for people with
[388]
higher of higher income and then you
[390]
have state information and that's also
[392]
rarely filled out there's really state
[395]
tax withheld for average typical
[397]
taxpayers like again it could apply to
[400]
you but for a majority of people
[402]
these top boxes are the ones that you
[405]
have to worry about and you would have
[407]
to you know create either schedule e
[409]
c or maybe f if you have any income here
[413]
so this kind of like information flows
[415]
into the other
[416]
um
[417]
schedules on your tax returns so so
[420]
thanks so much for watching
